McCovey Chronicles OT: Rebecca Black

So, I work for a film studio that is exploring options regarding Rebecca Black and her popularity. There is talk about a made-for-tv movie.

Would you see a movie, starring Rebecca Black, on television? The movie would be a musical, on television (MTV or ABC Family), and starring the one and only, Rebecca Black. Would you watch this? Would you witness the train wreck? Plenty of younger kids would watch for actual enjoyment, but would YOU watch for the lolz?

McCovey Chronicles One Giant Relationship

World Series Champions. Unbelievable. No....seriously. When Nelson Cruz swung through that 3-2 pitch, I let out an awkward high-pitched yelp, followed by at least 5 minutes of disbelief. I had been pacing all over my living room for the bottom half of the 9th inning and as Nelson Cruz walked to the plate, I got as far away from the TV as possible while still being able to see it. I don't know why. I think I just needed some room to breath. But when Cruz struckout and Posey lead the charge to the mound, I dropped to my knees, watching the TV in a state of shock. Thousands of times during my life, I would lie in bed and imagine the Giants winning the World Series; what it would feel like, how I would react, etc. I definitely did not imagine myself frozen on the wodden floor of my apartment while my roommate looks at me with confusion and concern for my well-being.

Happy Veteran's Day!

Let's all take a moment and remember the veterans that have shaped our lives today. Veterans like Edgar Renteria, Juan Uribe, Aubrey Huff, and Pat Burrell. Without veterans like these fine gentlemen, the world would be a much worse place.

McCovey Chronicles Need Your Help!

So, I edit videos for fun, when I can. I've been pretty busy with work lately, but I should have some time this Sunday to make a Giants' season highlight video. I have a lot of plays and games that I have in mind to include in the video, but I know that I will be missing some big plays or games. So, please list every play or game that comes to mind that you think should be used in the video and if you have a link to it, that would be even better.

Thanks,

Max

Changes:
-Rewritten by Aaron Sorkin
-To be directed by Bennett Miller
-Jonah Hill will replace Dimitri Martin as Paul de Podesta (seriously)
-Budget down 20%
-Will play as your typical bio-pic, not a docu-drama.

McCovey Chronicles Animated GIF Request

After any exciting Giants win as yesterday's was, I enjoy reliving the moments through highlights from SFGiants.com. I was watching Renteria's game-tying homerun and I noticed Mark DeRosa wording the words "fuck yeah" while fist-pumping, very similar to the Timmy GIF we all know and love. Here is the link to the video and DeRosa has his moment around the 0:17 mark. I thought it would be just another fun GIF for the game threads

McCovey Chronicles Dan Haren

Who would you trade for Haren? Would you trade for Haren? What about Bumgarner, Alderson, and Sanchez for Haren? Can you imagine that staff? Do we really need a power bat? We are winning without one now and I'd prefer to stick with the camaraderie we currently have and not mess it up with some prima-donna coming in. Would the Dbacks trade Haren? What say you?

McCovey Chronicles MLB 2K9

I bought it today and I have been playing it for a while. First of all, make sure you download the rosters on Xbox Live of Playstation Online (whatever they call it).

-The ratings for the players are pretty legitimate compared to previous years.

-The game play is much improved.

-The in-game experience is incredible. It's in real-time, although you can speed it up a little. After each inning, it fades to black as if you were watching a broadcast, then fades back into the broadcast as if you were coming from the commercials. They do a great job with batters walking to the plate, going in and out of the box, and taking time between the pitches.

-The in-game commentary is much more in-depth than ever before and they have tailored quite a bit of information to each team.

-Pac Bell looks great, although the Pepsi ads around the park are weird.

I haven't been playing long enough to go into much more detail, although I have 1 problem with the game so far:

When creating a player, you can't customize stances or pitching motions. I created Posey, Anvil, MadBum, and TimA and put them in San Jose.

McCovey Chronicles My Letter to the Commish

Dear Bud Selig,

You have brought shame to America's pastime. Amidst scandal and detriment to the game of baseball, you take no responsibility for your lack of action in the past and turn your frustration into inappropriate action in the present.

The Steroid Era has occurred under your watch and you have the audacity to try to punish players who are under protection of confidentiality. You have the audacity to try and change baseball's most holy record. Even Hank Aaron thinks you are out of line. What's next? The 1989 A's lose their World Series trophy and hand it to the Giants? Do you take Gaylord Perry out of the hall-of-fame because he used a spitball?

Mr. Selig, this was your watch and you fell asleep. You chose to do nothing in the mid-90's when Steroids was at it's peak because it helped bring popularity back to baseball after the strike. Man up and take responsibility for what you have done to the game. Apologize to the baseball fans of the world for choosing to do nothing as the game was slowly being tarnished. Apologize to the fans for acting only when you were forced by the pressure of the media as news of steroid-use finally broke out in the early-2000's. Apologize to the fans for not doing your job. Do the game a favor, and retire.

Sincerely,

A REALLY PISSED OFF FAN

"MLB Front Office Manager lets gamers do everything a real-life baseball GM can do to develop a team from Spring Training through a full MLB season, into the playoffs and the World Series. Using Major League teams and players, gamers will create their own fictional baseball universe and build their reputation into elite status. Brian Wilson and me after he performed in the Nutcracker at Oakland's Paramount Theater.

McCovey Chronicles Baseball Ballerinas

So, I was at the nutcracker in Oakland at the Paramount Theater today with my family today and I noticed there were a few performers whose names I recognized. Dancing as toy soldiers in the performance today was Tony La Russa, Bob Geren, and our own Brian Wilson. Also performing with them were John Evans, Frank Sommerville, Jamie Williams and one other who I can't remember. The majority of the theater knew that they were going to be in it. They weren't very good, but that was the fun and everyone was laughing and cheered loud for them. I had tickets for the after party with the performers and I talked to Brian Wilson. He was really nice and I got a picture. I'll post it when my step-mom uploads it to her computer. Anyways, just thought I'd share the story.

"2. The Cardinals have been surprised at the level of interest in center fielder Rick Ankiel. The Yankees have been among at least five teams looking into obtaining Ankiel. The Braves, Rays and Giants are among the others. Ankiel, the one-time erratic pitcher, hit 25 homers in just 413 at-bats last year during an injury-disrupted season. He is one year removed from free agency and as a Scott Boras client almost certainly will test the market. However, he should make only about $3 million as an arbitration-eligible player in 2009."

McCovey Chronicles Biggest Pet Peeve at the Ballpark?

Beach balls?

Thunder Sticks?

The Wave?

Loud mouth drunks who yell at EVERYTHING?

I hate all 3 of those. I'm not a big fan of people who boo at fans who drop line drive foul balls with their bare hands. But my biggest pet peeve, are the people who boo at a pick-off or fake and yell "balk" when it is clearly not a balk. Anyways, what is your biggest pet peeve at the ballpark?
