Second City Hockey reacts to today's trade

This isn't Caps specific, but if the Caps can make the Finals, then the Hawks are as likely as anyone to oppose them. Interesting post with some info on both Kim Johnsson, Nick Leddy, and Cam Barker.

'All About Eric' Eric Fehr gets some love on Dobberhockey

Jeff Angus, one of the contributors at Dobberhockey, is advocating picking up Eric Fehr in keeper leagues, or 1 year leagues if he's available as an FA (An astute JRHL player has already done this, don't bother looking). The premise is that the author thinks that Fehr's injury woes are behind him and that he's about to launch into a career path that closely follows Glen Murray's. Murry got off to a slow start after some injuries and then got playing time in LA and Boston and really blossomed into a good source of secondary scoring later in his career by going to the dirty areas and paying the price for the puck. I would be freakin' ecstatic if that came to pass while he was wearing the Weagle, quite frankly. A guy that has Fehr's hands and abilities on the wall and is willing and able to crash the net is an ingredient that cup-contending-Caps are going to require for a long while if they want to stay in contention. It's nice to see a guy that's been underrated by the league at large (and perhaps by the team's management) get some love in a media source that isn't authored by J.P., David M. Getz, Becca or Pepper. Here's hoping he lives up to all that potential.

Copper & Blue's reflection on Terry Sawchuk, who's all-time shutout record Martin Brodeur just tied. A splendid dive into hockey history.

Original Six?

Ever hear the argument that today’s stars only put up the numbers they do because they’re playing in a watered-down, terrible league with 30 teams? That the guys in the Original Six era are more...

The Hockey News: The Worst Division in Hockey

It's...not ours. At least, not so far. Good on Dixon for recognizing that the Southeast isn't as bad as it once was and the Northeast is probably going to founder this year. Although, I must say that I've been impressed with what I've seen from the Sabres so far and that I think the Buds are better than they're playing at the moment. That Vanek injury is going to hurt them badly though and that's their real problem; they have no depth. Vanek goes down and there's no one else on that roster that's a consistent threat to score. Connolly and Roy are both very skilled players, but neither of them are close to having the finishing ability of Vanek. For their sake, I hope he makes a full recovery and soon. I don't know what the Leaf's bugaboo has been so far, other than their defense having terrible games. It looks like Schenn is hitting his sophomore slump and Beauchemin and Komisarek are significantly underperforming their contracts. That really surprises me in Beauchemin's case, I thought (and still think) that he was a much better player than he's shown. Could it be that playing with Pronger affected his stats and performance that strongly? Matt Carle has looked much better with Elbows, after all.

Adam Proteau's Regular Season Eastern Conference Predictions

Adam Proteau, of The Hockey News, has the Caps tabbed as the number one team in the Eastern Conference for the regular season, on the strength of their forward acquisitions and the weakness of the Southeast. He also thinks that the SE will send three teams to the playoffs, with Tampa in eighth, so take the opinion of the SE as you will.
