The Phinsider Manning Watch??? C'Mon... Im Done.

Why do I allow myself to be captivated by so many "Experts," "Insiders," and "Sources?" I cant even turn on the TV anymore. I am done. I am a die hard Phin fan for life, but this is past the point of amusement and just plain frustrating. Has anyone else met the small mouse with a cell phone, apparently living in Peyton Manning's coat pocket? Is that where all this supposed "Sources Say..." crap comes from?

The way I see it... Do I think Manning would be a great fit this next couple of seasons with the Dolphins, who desperately need a shot in the arm for a disconnected fan base? Absolutely. However, if I have to hear a report from Mortenson on how "physically and mentally draining this process is, on poor Peyton," I'm going to throw things at the TV. C'Mon, do you really think those are his words.

I'm tired of hearing Adam Schefter go on his little segment on SC, one minute that KC and Seattle are "out," and then five minutes later that the Seahawks are a perfect example of a sleeper team, that could come out of nowhere at the last minute, and make a "splash." So basically you don't know sh*t...

This all happened 5 months ago with the whole Pujols thing... Nobody considered the Angels an option, and then... boom... That happened.

So I guess what I'm saying is, I'm personally done with Manning Watch: 2012. I will tune in to the Phinsider and put some stock in our current scenario when there's actually some meat to digest. In the mean time, I'm getting back to my brackets, because no "Insiders," or "Experts" have an opinion there...LOL.

The Phinsider The Other Kicking Game

I have been commenting on this in a few posts, but my frustration has lead me to create a title post, to make sure I'm not the only one pulling my hair out on this. Yes, our Secial Teams was horrible last night, and it has not been a strength of this team for many years, however why do we continue to not address our return game. This is such a glaring hole to me, that I am at my wits end.

Yes, Carpenter kicks the ball low sometimes. Yes, Fields has a long delivery, but these can both be offset by the amount of talent and upside they bring. Many games, Brandon Fields has been our best player on the field...Like all of '08 for that matter.

On the other hand, our game when the 'phins are on the receiving end is deplorable. Every time we drop back to receive a kick with Bess, Cobbs, Carroll, Sapp, or whichever slow, non-surehanded, non-specialist, I pray for the 25 yard line and no fumble on a punt. (Sorry Bess, I love you, but PR you are not. Too many muffs last year.)

Atleast with Ginn, there was some feeling of anticipation. Yeah, he was a sissy and ran for the sideline until his job was on the line, but the spark was in your head... "It could happen!" I dont feel that way at all with our current core.

Lat year when there were mumblings of trading for Cribbs, I was onboard. Thats not going to happen now, but please expend a roster spot (preferably Bobby Carpenter's) on some fast kid from College who didnt get picked, or a speedster from the CFL) and give them a shot to win a job

For the sake of our entertainment on kicks AND our Sorry Starting Field Position! Please!

The Phinsider So the Sky's not Dropped Completely, but PLEASE...

Fire our Special Teams Coach... (Too many obvious examples to list. I understand Coaches dont wear pads and make tackles, but JESUS!)

Fire our OC... (Solely on the basis of calling that Wildcat play on 3rd and 6 on the 1st drive... C'Mon Man!)

Tell Henne to pay more attention to Pennington in the QB meetings... (As many bad balls tonight as ever. Actually should have had 5 picks tonight)

Get Jason Allen some longer spikes. (Dude falls down in Coverage more than anyone I have even seen.)

Get Odrick, Crowder and Jerry some better treatment. (God knows we need them.)

Hey Brandon, I always appreciate trying to get extra yards... (but dont happy feet fake out your own QB, dawg!)

Get someone to return Kicks, PLEASE! (Please! Our return unit literally consists of me praying for the 20 and no fumble)

I wasn't in attendance, but am I the only one who's had it with our whole, "A Dolphins Game is more about the experience, than actual football?" Its bad enough with all the pseudo-celeb owners, but is there a concert mixed into EVERY home game?  Cork that Sh*t and play some hard nosed football at home!

I have never been more ready for a BYE WEEK!

The Phinsider Got your number & Getting owned

After watching last night's game against the Falcons (west coast, so NFL network) I was left with this analytical feeling on a few issues that I want an opinion on.

With memories of our opening game from last season still relatively fresh in my mind, I was really looking forward to this trial run. Remember how bad John Abraham owned Jake Long last year. Sorry to bring this up for everyone, but that play where Abraham blew up Jake, tossed him on the ground like a dishrag, AND got called for a legit holding penalty? Pretty much every D Lineman's dream play?

Now I'm a big JL fan, but I think Abraham has his number. Another holding call, and beat pretty bad more than a few times, if you watch. Certain matchups just sometimes seem to make average players look like monsters, and monsters look human. I'm not saying Abraham's not a stud, but it made me think of some of the dolphins related exchanges (and around the league) that have proven to be kryptonite over the years...

Ted Ginn - 2009 Jets

1990's Dolphins - 1990's Bills

Tony Romo - The Playoffs

Nick Saban - The NFL

Al Davis - Writing Contracts

Bob Griese - microphones ( Sorry local broadcast fans, but he's aweful.)

Sean Smith - 2010 Preseason Receivers (all of them)

Rex Ryan - Salads

Jason Taylor - Anyone with a Camera, Spotlight, Make-up Brushes... errr wait, reverse that one :)

The Phinsider Any Science to It???

So with all these "major" Mock Drafts and Analysts, Is there any history to how accurate they are by comparison? I mean the knobs like McShay and Kiper, claim to be these draft guru's and site's like Yahoo, and NFL and a million others have ongoing trackers, but are any of them more legit than others?

Obviously nobody can be expected to nail down stellar accuracy with the potential for trades and so many surprises (Al Davis). But is there any that have been traditionally better for insight over the years?

Looking for opinions to put a little bit of stock into.

The Phinsider TJones to KC... Now if Only

we could get Leon Washington out of the division... He runs all over us. Straight up for Ginn? The Jets might go for it, after what Teddy did to them last season... lol

I still like Atogwe... Having a completly green secondary scares me. Sharper would add some read experience on coverage necessary for Sean and Vontae to play more aggressive. They didn't exactly have a safety net last season...

Any latest on if KC is still looking to shop Bowe?

The Phinsider Agree? Disagree? Add...

So reading these posts can be a bit redundant, I understand with the constant player comparisons, debated draft needs, and what-if scenarios.

These are the issues that I am most concerned with entering the off-season. If you have one to add to the list, please add for discussion, but don't wast everyone's time with lame sh*t like Thigpen vs. Henne comparisons, or things the FO should have different in '09. This is about what FANS think will be most worth discussing for improvement in '10

1) The Resigning of Ronnie Brown. This is a legitimate discussion that I can see both sides of... 2 big leg injuries, age, RB wear and tear VS. His obvious up-side on the field.

2) I will concede to a Thigpen Comparison, but it does not involve Chad Henne who is undoubtably our starter next year. The question is... Does Thigpen show more upside as a #2 than Pat White?

3) Assuming we do bring a legitimate deep threat receiver to the table in '10. Either by FA, or the draft. I say deep threat and not number 1 receiver because I can't see bringing in a rookie and labeling him the #1 unproven. If the FO goes this way? Who gets limited time on the field? Bess, Hartline, Ginn, Camarillo? They all bring different things to the mix.

4) How confident are we at Vernon Carey at RG? I fell like every once in a while he shows promise, but more times than not, he "Randy Moss' " on plays. His ole' moves on Pitt's DLine were pretty pathetic.

5) Lets call Gibril Wilson what he is and that is a rare mistake by the trifecta. What are our legitimate options at safety... Please don't say move Sean Smith...

6) I'm all for getting a bruising LB in the o'season, but lets not focus just on pass rush. Everyone always wonders why we don't get Cam Wake in more and I understand he is not a LB... but consider the main reason that we started the season 0-3 was that we got destroyed by pass catching tight ends... We were exposed again today. We need some versitility on rush / drop coverage.

7) Does Ferguson come back. We have a few FA's to consider, but this one is very important. How do we rate Solai, McDaniel's fill in?

8) Special Teams. I really like our kickers, but as with many teams in our league... Pitt, NY, etc, I am starting to see real problems on both sides of our kicking game. Poor coverage, poor blocking. Where are the majority of our holes?

9) What is the plan for the Wildcat in '10? Even with Ronnie back, I am a huge fan of the WC, but I can not ignore that letting Henne get into a rhythem in some of our later games was pretty vital. Downgraded? Stay the same?

10) Porter? Taylor? Smiley? Do we keep getting younger, or do we keep some experience in the Locker Room... Who are vital bring-backs for leadership?

The Phinsider Love Me Some Colts Tonight!

I can't decide what was better tonight... Our Henne 4th Qtr Comeback (be it, we should nere have been in that situation) or watching the Belli-Choke!

A few notes for conversation regarding the best non-dolphin game of the day.

* Love Love Love watching Billy B rubbing his face at the realization that his call blew up in his face.

* A huge realization that having a big time number 1 receiver like Reggie Wayne, is an absolute game changer. Watching Ginn make more re-donk-ulous drops today, and then watching Wayne make catches like the game winner look routine... we really need to get a game breaker. Again... why is Ginn not full time return man??? And why can D. Bess catch everything cleanly EXCEPT punts?

* It is possible that I would rather shove sharp sticks in my ears, than listen to Deion Sanders on the NFL network. Eisen's whiny ass is bad enough, but listening too Deion's man crush for the Pat's and Belli-cheat come spewing onto the TV was appaling. Douche. "I didn't like the Bellicheck call on 4th down, I loved it..." Douche.

* Love me a day when the Phins win, Pats, Jets, Bills lose.

The Phinsider Bigger D-Bag???

So a question for my fellow Phin Fans...

After listening to all the bullshit trash talk, that Rex Ryan seems to demonstrate to his own players... (way to set an example)

After watching SportsCenter and seeing his equally fatty twin brother Rob dropping F-Bombs directly into the camera at Jay Cutler... (nice role model for the young NFL viewers.)

Nice job on "Coachin' em up" in the parenting department, Buddy!

It inevitably begs the question...

Which of the "Ryan's" displays a higher level of douche-baggery???

The Phinsider Sunday... Loved It! - HATED It!

LOVED - Watching Jason Taylor AGAIN show every stone-handed D Lineman in the league how an All-Pro handles a fumble... Anyone catch the Brett Favre mis-snap on Sunday night where the ball rolled through the hands of no less than 19 people... Way to take that sh*t to the house, 99.

Hated - Watching Gibril Wilson make a nice play on the sack, (which let's be honest, he was untouched, the rookie QB had nowhere to go, and any other blitzing safety makes that play) then goes all Jared Allen in the backfield, showing his muscles... Don't whif on open field tackes in consecutive games, and then we'll be happy to check out your guns, Gibril.

Loved - That tickled feeling watching Ginn stand back there for the 2nd time and thinking to myself, what if he does it again, then proving myself right... Great Success...

Hated - The fact that Devone Bess can grab any ball thrown remotely close to him, but can't hold the damn thing. Full time return duty for Ginn, anyone?

Loved - Watching Vontae Davis lower the boom on the sideline play... Looked eerily like Leon Washington laying out Channing Crowder in the 1st game...

Hated - Watching Sean Smith get abused yesterday... He was nowhere near his receiver on some of those routes, and a higher caliber QB picks him apart ALL DAY like that!

Loved - Listening to all these old-fart Bill fans celebrating in the 1st Quarter, and then duck out of the bar holding their hats in the beginning of the 4th.

Hated - Watching Henne hold the ball longer than Aaron Rogers and taking numerous deep sacks... I understand sacks are better than INT's but you can't run us out of Field Goal Range...

Loved - The big team defense sack on the final 3rd down play. It was really a play where the whole D deserved a sack credit. Nice coverage and nice pressure.

Hated - The celebrating after the above mentioned sack on 3RD DOWN! You know you have to play D for one more play (for the game) and we did, but as a dolphin fan who witnessed the Houston Game last year... The premature celebrating almost made me sick.

Loved - (Not Dolphin, but Miami related) Watching Ed Reed BLOW UP Knowshon Moreno on that screen pass / fumble. That, my friends, is why I work behind a desk and not an Offensive Line...

Hated - That we seemed to run the Wildcat in very predictable situations yesterday. I didn't completely hate the play calling on offense yesterday, but pretty close... That draw play on 3rd and 10 on our last TD drive worked, so, OK, but if it doesn't...ehhh.

Bring on the HATED ONES>>>>>

The Phinsider Ten Things I'm Thankful for on Sunday...

1) The fact that I was able to re-gain the picture on my TV after knocking over my flat-screen with a couch pillow. Said pillow was thrown after watching Gibril Wilson fairy-up on yet another horrendously missed tackle in the 1st Qtr.

2) The fact that we didn't have to cover a ridiculously talented and athletic tight end...again. C'mon, Gates, Clark, and Gonzales? That sucked ass.

3) Sean Smith played well... got beat on an underthrown ball, then recovered with more solid coverage.

4) I didn't write Jason off after last week. (sidenote: Cam Wake was a beast)

5) THE moment never happened... You all know THE moment. Where we get a nice 2 score lead, and then we relent on a big kick/punt return.

6) The fact that my TV did not break a second time when I landed another throw pillow from the couch. This one came after watching Tom Brady plead (like a little bitch) the ref into throwing a flag for the lamest roughing call that I have ever seen! What a p*ssy!

7) Watching Rodney Harrison tell Tom Brady to take off his skirt for begging for above call on national TV... Right on, Rodney! Always thought you were too vocal as a Pat, but well said!

8) Darren Sharper to the house.

9) Jake Long and Jake Grove both looked really solid... unfortunately Vernon Carey still looked like ass, but it didn't kill us.

10) I didn't see any of those drive-killing, waste-of-a-down, Pat White hand-off's...

NOBODY CIRCLES THE WATERS LIKE THE...

The Phinsider For the NEED of God...!

Loyal Phin fans,

While I do understand that blog posts after such a brutal and collapsing loss will undoubtedly be mostly bitching and complaining about what went wrong... It puzzles me how atleast 1 out of every couple post starts with talking about what the phins NEED from a personel stand point...

We need a strong armed, accurate quarterback.

We need a play making wide receiver who can stretch defenses.

We need a big target, red zone receiver.

We need a consistant TE who can block and get open on LB coverage.

We need an explosive return man

We need a safety like Troy Polomolu who catches every interception and doesn't miss a tackle

We need a linbacker who can drop into coverage... even a little bit.

We need a Coaching Staff who can run a 2 minute drill

We need a front office who makes better player aquisistion decisions.

So far, these have all been pegged as reasons for our loss to the Colts last night. While I think that Phins fans happen to be the most intelligent and "plugged in" fans out there, we seem to be missing the focus on our potential success.

The posts after the first game had mostly to do with how awesome our defense was, and how we needed to string up our offense. This week... much different. In my opinion, the reason for our struggles have come from issues that I can point out, win or lose.

Our team is what it is. And probably for quite a while. While I disagree that we are a rebuilding project with a $150 million dollar O line (that is not all youngsters, BTW) we will not be signing Peyton Manning, Andre Johnson, Nnamdi Asomugha, Ed Reed, and Patrick Willis anytime soon. We can not shore up every hole, as no team can. We CAN on the other hand work much better as a unit.

We did not lose the game because Ginn missed a tough catch. We did not lose because Wilson dropped an interception or because Carpenter missed a field goal. These are plays that we should not have needed to win last night.

We lost because of poor communication, mental mistakes, lazyness (In that Order)... On the field AND the sideline.

* Poor Communication between our sideline and our QB on the 2 minute drill. I don't know if it's because we didn't expect to be in this situation, but good teams always know exactly what will go on when the game is on the line. Champions expect to win close games. The dolphins looked confused and defeated.

* Poor Communication and Mental Mistakes in our secondary. Our safeties need to talk to each other and decide who has what area of the field. We do not have the luxury of a free safety who can play the "outfield rover" position and be a ball hawk. We are not fast or talented enough. Gibril Wilson, you need to make routine tackles and Channing Crowder, you are supposed to be the QB of the Defense, so instead of pumping your fists after making a tackle on a 6 yard gain run play, make sure your safeties are at proper depth to help on TE middle routes. You know if your D Line is pressuring the ends, the middle is LB responsability. Start acting like this is YOUR unit.

* Poor Decisions on the Pat White package. While this was only a few plays, momentum can be a fickle advisary. Pat, you have to get out from under center faster than 8.2 seconds or you will never play at this level. I have never seen a QB, who is touted as being so fast, get out of center so slow. Right now, no one is fearing Pat White on the field, or even the potential of Pat White. Work on your footwork.

* Poor Decisions on play calling. Not all the time, as the gadgets did work nicely, but I thought our play calling last night was as bad as it was good. We played scared. And with an offense that has not shown any big play ability, we cannot play scared.

* Patrick Cobbs returning Kicks... Patrick, I respect your talent, but please know your role. You are a temporary solution who needs to simply get our offense started slightly beyond the 20, each new series. You are not Joshua Cribbs, so please use your head and don't return kicks from the back of the endzone, when you have displayed no speed or cutting ablity. Mental Mistake.

* Poor decisions on Tight Ends. I don't know the whole story behind our off-season tight end evaluation, but if Fasano is not going to be a lights out blocking monster, he has to display the hands he did last year. I thought his potential TD drop came on a better thrown ball than Ginn's. That is a catch David Martin comes down with. Tough play, but my point is our indecision on the TE position.

* Poor activation decision at Wide Receiver. We should have had Patrick Turner over Brian Hartline. We have zero threat of a big target in the endzone. This is something that haunted us last year and continues this year. Why do we have Hartline, Camarillo, and Bess all active when they basically all bring the same thing to the table? Hartline has potential, but Turner fills the bigger need on Sunday right now and I would like to see him given a shot at why we drafted him.

Instead of looking toward a messiah QB or Receiver to come to town and solve all our problems, we should be focusing on the above items in practice to help us win this year. especially next week against a San Diego team who routinely makes horrible decisions on the field... We have to be better to exploit this and get on a winning track.

Thoughts???

The Phinsider Why HBO is Awesome!

If you are like me, in the offseason, you will watch ANYTHING football related, and when I can't watch anything related to the dolphins on TV... Hard Knocks...

* The 1st 5 minutes of "Hard Knocks" this week was bad-ass... If you haven't seen it... Find a way to watch that sh_t! Marvin Lewis just moved up a few rungs on my ladder... He owned the Bengals in the locker room after their crappy preseason performance. The kind of stuff I scream at my TV when Jason Allen gets owned by a 3rd string receiver, when Vernon Carey plays like he did against the Bucs... etc. Quote of the night, "If you let a team hang around with you long enough in the NFL, they will beat your ass every time!" Well said, Marv.

* Carson Palmer and the Physics of the Perfect Gatorade Powder to Water ratio...

* Tank Johnson doesn't know who Bill Walsh is... But he can put IKEA furniture together like a muthaf*cka.

* Ocho Cinco goes to the bar and orders cranberry juice with an "alcohol straw" so people don't call him out for not drinking. OR... More likely? He's on his period.

* Rey Maualuga still plays exactly like he did at SC, 1 out of 5 plays, great tackle, other 4 times? Captain Overpersuit.

* More frustrating Job? Bengals O-Line Coach, or having to play quarterback behind that monstrocity?

* Cincinatti Father to Cincinatti fan son, upon approaching Jordan Palmer for an autograph... "No son, he's not the star, that's just his brother. You want Carson's autograph." Ouch. Felt bad for Jordan UNTIL I saw that segment on his website that manages the best time to piss during movies... Seriously... www.runpee.com

* When your own team makes fun of your huge jiggly man titties... that's some funny stuff, Andre. And seriously, your agent or rep or whatever thinks he's Johnny Cochran. AND you broke your foot... Can't be surprised, you are like 400 lbs of jelly. Thats a lot of pressure on a little foot.

* That rookie O Lineman really DOES look like Randy from American Idol.

* Damn, glad I'm not a Bengal Fan.

Ok, a few non Football reasons.

* Entourage.

* The long haired vampire dude on TrueBlood gets my wife all hot... :)
