Lynch and D.A. reach agreement

I don't remember seeing this anywhere....

“We’re in the final stages of it,” Caffery said. “Part of the agreement is there will be no criminal charges against my client. It will only be a violation.”

For those expecting a suspension, I think this will help derail that. No criminal charges against Lynch, means no suspension IMO.

While there has been speculation that Lynch would be charged with a misdemeanor for leaving the scene of an accident, Caffery said the charges are much less serious - “in the class of a speeding ticket.”

That's somewhat surprising to me. I thought he would be able to plead down a bit, but would still receive a misdemeanor of some sort. A violoation or ticket is a pretty light punishment. I'm guessing there might be a hefty fine.

Caffery, though, said the incident has been totally overblown.

“If this wasn’t a professional athlete, it wouldn’t even be in the paper,” he said.

I couldn't agree more with this statement. Thankfully this is FINALLY over.

'Bills' Highway to be Named for Buffalo's Favorite Son

A nice tribute

Tim Russert's trademark sign off on "Meet the Press" was a cheer for his hometown Buffalo Bills.

Now, several New York politicians are proposing to rename the road to the Bills' stadium after Russert, who was felled by a heart attack Friday.

Sens. Charles Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton and Rep. Brian Higgins (D-Buffalo) will introduce the resolution today.

"He was Mr. Buffalo," Schumer said. "Buffalo was in his blood and his bones. His blue-collar Buffalo sensibility guided him throughout [his career]."

The resolution would rename a portion of US Route 20, which runs past Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Russert was a huge Bills fan, and would always ask Schumer if there was something he could do to help keep the team in Buffalo.

"He lived and breathed the Buffalo Bills," Schumer said. "We hope that by naming this road in his honor we are memorializing one of New York's proudest sons."

This would be a nice, simple gesture to honor Tim Russert and his love and backing of the Bills. He represented the city well and always kept the Bills in his every day conversations.

I guess we should chalk this up to never finding Jimbo's replacement at QB....

This would have been more appropriate yesterday, but today will do. Good article on Simpson trying to get back on the field at 100%. It sounds like he's got a ways to go, but is on schedule. I hope he'll be able to improve on his rookie year technique and tackling ability because those are his weaknesses. Let's hope that gruesome injury wasn't as devastating as it looked and he can solidify one of last year's weakest spots on D.

He's been limited in the first three days of Buffalo's voluntary practices this week, and says his ankle is not quite 100 percent.

That's a bit alarming at this point, so it's definitely something to keep an eye on. I really hope that doesn't hamper his play this season. We need Stroud at 100% and playing near or at his previous Pro Bowl level.

Day 3 OTA news and notes

Another day of OTA's and another post from me regarding some of the main points/surprises...

From Chris Brown

-No Peters, Losman or Evans today. Some speculation that Peters may want a new deal . This is unfounded and I don't believe that as a possibility yet. Chris Brown hopes to get an update tomorrow .

-Another good day for the DB's. Greer had a good day, proving he's once again a top practice player.

-McKelvin didn't see the first team reps he saw yesterday. They went to James today, but it sounds like the staff wants to get as many guys as possible first team reps. I think the top 4 CB's seem pretty set already. Unless injury or a big surprise from Youboty/Corner during the summer vaults them ahead of others, I think this will continue.

-The DT's have all been rotating between the two positions. I like the versatility we have in those 4. Now we just need them to improve the run D and be a bigtime factor this season.

-The D seems to be getting their hands on a lot of passes thus far. I hope that will translate into more turnovers during the season. We really need to have an opportunistic group this year to give our young (and hopefully improved) offense easier scoring chances.

-There was a Chris Ellis sighting for any of those concerned. He and Corey Mace had some first team reps.

-The offense ran a lot of no-huddle today. We saw some success with that last year, albeit it was brief, but I think we'll see more of it this year. Trent seems like the type of QB that would excel in this scheme. His accuracy on shorter passes, pocket awareness and hopefully the increased receiving workload from our RB's should enable this.

-Edwards didn't have the same success in the no-huddle as Gibran Hamdan did. He's been getting the majority of the 2nd team reps. Sounds like the staff will be giving him a long, hard look to see if it's worth keeping him as a 3rd QB or keeping another guy on the PS instead.

-Dwayne Wright and Xavier Omon had their moments today.

-Reed, Parrish and Schouman had some nice plays in the red zone today. Schouman's name has been popping up a lot thus far. I think they like his receiving ability and the more we hear his name and how he's play, the more I think he'll have a good shot at being the 3rd/4th TE and maybe backup FB.

-Schobel discusses his weight loss (which actually happened 6 years ago). I never really thought he looked any lighter last, contrary to what many believed. He was also very good against the run last year. The Bills were #1 or 2 against the rush off his end last year, if I recall correctly (too lazy to look it up right now). Sounds like Aaron is a like perturbed at the suggestion that he lost too much weight last year and his play suffered. He wasn't any different last year, except that he didn't get the same number of hustle sacks that he had in the past. His pass rushing was just as inconsistent as year's past.

-The Bills may also be hesitant to use McKelvin on returns early on. This wouldn't surprise me if the plan is to get him on the field defensively early and often. I still don't see him starting right away, but he should be a big role in the nickel packages. If McGee and Parrish were firmly entrenched as our returners, who've had a ton of success in years past, I would be surprised by this 'rumor'. I think we'll see McKelvin get some returns this year as the season progresses, but he won't be a primary returner, nor should he be right away.

Day 2 OTA tidbits

Day 2 of the OTA's is in the books, here is some of the more interesting news from Chris Brown :

-No Jason Peters. No JP Losman. Moorman and Mike Viti were back.

-Leodis McKelvin got a lot of work with the first defensive unit (McGee has a reduced workload today) and fared pretty well. He showed good coverage and recognition. Looks like the Bills want to integrate him as soon as possible (hint hint Leodis, sign that contract as soon as you can!!)

-Will James looked good as well. Sounds as if he'll be one of the top 3 or 4 CB's, to no one's suprise (except Brian). I like him as much as Greer and better than Youboty at this point.

-Lee Evans sat out the team portion of today (shoulder surgery). Josh Reed filled in on the outside and looked good. Roscoe made the catch of the day and Hardy continued to look good out there. Edwards was accurate.

-The RB's caught a lot of passes out of the backfield with Fred Jackson looking very elusive.

-Good news...the QB's worked on audibles today. They will apparently be back on the table this year. I hate Fairchild.

-Kawika Mitchell has looked good.

-There were some dropped passes today, though no mention of who. I would guess Scott Mayle was a culprit.

-There was a tussle between Jason Whittle and John McCargo. No word on who won the battle royale, though it sounds very minor.

St Louis Rams for sale (back to LA??)

Apparently the Rams are up for sale with former 49ers owner, Eddie DeBartolo being mentioned as a potential buyer. He has interest in moving a team back to LA, though the Rams aren't #1 on his list. He's considered buying the Raiders and moving them back. However, he's not as interested in LA now as he was 2 years ago:

"First of all, who's proven in L.A. that a damn team even works?" DeBartolo asked. "It didn't work for Al Davis, and he won a Super Bowl there. I think L.A. has yet to prove it wants to support a pro football team. And unless somebody does an awfully damn good survey and market-research study indicating otherwise, I'll be skeptical."

That's exactly why I can't agree any team should move to LA.

Jacksonville was also mentioned as a potential LA team. No mention of the Bills.

Wants to get a deal done pretty quickly. Thinks his contract should be based on those of the FA's recently signed: Berrian, Moss, Fitzgerald....ugh

Believes the Bills are going in the right direction and that is part of his decision

Says Trent has the potential to be a great QB. Has a lot of room to improve but has a ton of upside, is smart. Needs to be more of a leader and have more confidence in himself.

Hardy has the size and uses it to his advantage well. Will help him.

Thought the defensive moves were good ones.
