The JR show is certainly not for everyone, but Alex Smith will be on with Jim at 11:45am. The link is to a SoCal station (KLAC, local to me) that streams the show online.

Niners Nation Can We Talk Some Trash? The NFC West and the Playoffs

"The NFC West [is] made up of pro football's bad seeds"

John Clayton

"I really don’t want to analyze the NFC West because it is such a joke, but I am obligated to say something about them."

Adam Wells

"On Sunday, the 7-8 Rams and 6-9 Seahawks played for the NFC West 'championship'"

Chris Lillstrung

The NFC West may not be made up of the same bitter rivalries and high-flying talent as the NFC or AFC East, but when it comes to the playoffs, our "pathetic" division has one thing no one can take away:

It hasn't been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs since 2004.

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, but this is probably an area of concern heading into a potentially snowy game where the run game could be the difference between a win and a loss.

Maybe his veteran experience doesn't require him to practice very much, but I can't imagine the rookies on the OLine will be able to pick it up "on the run" (haha) on Sunday.

Is it possible Anthony Dixon plays a bigger role than we thought? It's also possible this decision plays into the "keeping him fresh" angle Coach Singletary brought up over the last couple of press conferences. Thoughts?

Speeches given after the win against St Louis. Watching Singletary address the players answers some of the questions I had about him and rekindles some of that preseason excitement for the next game. And Troy is just a class act, as usual.

I caught this interview on KNBR last night, and I thought it was fairly interesting to get to hear Troy talk about some of his experiences, that mysterious illness that kept him from starting with the Ravens and his role with the 49ers.

Besides the goofy movie questions (that was pretty painful to listen to), this is a solid interview and delves into some of the leadership discussions we've been having here.

Niners Nation Finding Answers In Strength of Schedule

Phillip J. Forty-Niner has been in a coma for six weeks. While we can't be sure of the specifics, doctors speculate his body simply couldn't handle a wave of preseason excitement, as he collapsed while wearing his Patrick Willis jersey in front of his computer, whose browser was pointed to Niners Nation (a football blog).

Phil woke up this morning, only to find his beloved San Francisco 49ers have gone 0-5. Michael Robinson, Jimmy Raye, Glen Coffee and Michael Lewis are no longer with the team, and things are looking bleaker than ever. Poor Phil's health is deteriorating rapidly, and doctors feel he doesn't stand much chance of a full recovery without even a glimmer of hope for the rest of the season- what's a poor 49er fan to do?

Come with me as I use three words to save a life, shed some light into why the season isn't lost, the sky isn't falling, and why we'll be celebrating with Phil all the way through the first round of the playoffs: Strength Of Schedule.

Matt Maiocco (via Twitter) reporting Kory Sheets may have been picked up by the Dolphins, saying his goodbyes to the rest of the team.

Kind of a bummer, given how Kory's name was sure to pop up among most of our discussions about the offense.

Niners Nation Hate For The Patriots

I'm not above taking cheap shots at the Patriots, who have desecrated the few records we actually do respect in the NFL this season, but I noticed something during the Indy game that got my wheels turning for a discussion topic and a poll.
