Another fantastic win for the Eagles tongiht. Defense was not as stout as I would have liked however, when the offense can keep firing like they did tonight to pick up the slack of the defense, then i feel good!

Now to the question at hand. I am wondeirng about the potential of any extensions currently in the works....

I see a handful of pressing matters.

Both Leonard Weaver and Jason Avant are in the last years of their contracts with the Eagles. I think they are both invaluable members of this team. I would hope you all agree but both of these players need to be extended.

Obvisousy, the next question is what is our plan at QB beyond 2010. Both McNabb and Kolb are in their 2nd last year of their contracts. Where do we go from here? I love McNabb and always have......... I hope he retires an Eagle. If that is the case, he needs an extension. If not, Kolb needs one.

So, does anyone know anything that is going on with any of these guys... Weaver, Avant, McNabb, or Kolb? Any input is appreciated!

Eagles Lock Up Another Piece With Celek Deal

This is the ladder you take to reach the level Brent Celek has reached: Get drafted, out-work everyone out there, take advantage of an opportunity to play and never look back. This is Brent Celek, the latest in a long line of young, ascending players the Eagles have made part of their present, and their future. The team announced on Tuesday that Celek signed a contract extension through 2016, keeping in place another piece of an expanding core of superb, young talent.

In his first year as a starting tight end in the NFL, Celek is having all kinds of success. He has 54 catches, 601 yards and 5 touchdowns. Celek is a tough, hard-working blocker. Given his athletic ability and his work ethic and his hunger to be better every day, Celek's ceiling is way, way up there. He is a vital cog here now, and as the Eagles have so often demonstrated in the past and so far this season -- Winston Justice signed an extension last week -- he is someone to build around as the team moves forward.

It is absolutely no surprise that Celek and the Eagles got a deal done. Is there a more perfect player to man the tight end position in blue-collar Philadelphia than a kid who has advanced as arduously as Celek? He is the fastest tight end the Eagles have ever had. He isn't the most athletically-gifted player who has ever graced the position.

But Celek combines so many valuable traits that he may, yeah, I'm going to say it, one day be the best tight end the Eagles have had here in many, many seasons. He is a big, strong player with great hands. He runs like a souped-up truck with the ball in his hands. Celek has a super-high football IQ and the desire to be great.

Celek's development has been one of the many pleasant in-season surprises on this 7-4 football team. A fifth-round draft pick in 2007, Celek played sparingly that season and then opened 2008 as the backup to L.J. Smith before Smith's injury problems and, ultimately, his lack of productivity, dropped him to second string.

Meanwhile, Celek was rocketing up the depth chart because he spent every day at the NovaCare Complex running routes, watching film, working out. The coaches noticed, and under the tutelage of tight ends coach Tom Melvin, Celek began to blossom.

A November 2, 2008 game in Seattle marked Celek's real emergence. He caught 6 passes for 131 yards that day in an Eagles win, and even though Smith returned to the lineup in the season, it was only a matter of time before Celek claimed the role for good.

He started three of the final four games of the regular season and then started in all three playoff games. Celek's 10 catches, 83 yards and 2 touchdowns in the NFC Championship Game made it official: The job was his.

"He is such a hard-working player with a great attention to detail," said head coach Andy Reid of Celek. "He was that way from the very first day he got here. We all saw that from the start with Brent."

Said offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg of Celek: "We all saw it almost right away. He is a player who performs at a high level on a consistent basis. He is good at the line and in the passing game. He is dependable and you can count on him on every play to get to the right spot and do the right thing. This whole staff saw that very early."

Signing Celek continues a philosophy of locking up young players for the long term, something that has generally served the Eagles well. With the signing of Celek and Justice, the Eagles have now inked 22 players on the current roster (including players on Injured Reserve) to multiple contracts. The 24-year-old Celek is among a core group of players currently manning the skill positions on offense, joining 22-year-old wide receiver DeSean Jackson and a pair of 21-year-old rookies in wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and running back LeSean McCoy.

In fact, the average age of the current roster is 26.6 years old, while 76 percent of that roster is signed through 2010 and beyond, including 22 players who are signed through 2012 and beyond.

It's a great position to be in now and for the years to come. Celek is a key piece. He has a thumb injury and a lot of time to spend in the athletic trainer's room this week, but he is using to putting in the time. He has done it from Day 1 as an Eagle, and it is a prime reason he is where he is now: One of the game's best tight ends armed with a long-term contract and years of great play in front of him.

Where is Big Jon.

I think it became clear that what was supposed to be strength of the Eagles has definately become a liability.

I don't think it was anyones intention to go into this season with Justice at Right Tackle. Once again, he gave us flash backs of that Giants game two years ago.

We had the makings of the best O line in the league then Herremans gets hurt.....Shawn the big Kid becomes a big Baby again, and Stacy Andrews knee is not ready for him at Right tackle.....

Where is big Jon now. Our offense line is in desperate need of some nastiness and leadership!!

Here we go.....Please give it a rest

Let me preface this by saying......I am as sick over this loss as anyone today. We needed to go into that Giants game 5-1....now we will be good if we are 4-2

Point of this post is to immediately squash all the band wagon jumpers and typical McNabb/Reid bashers.

i am a die hard (cut me I bleed green) Eagles fan. I recognize the kind of success we have had under Andy Reid and McNabb is arare and special!!!

Yet, here we go again with the posts and blogs stating that McNabb/Reid need to go.

A handful of things contributed to the loss today. 2 of them were not Andy Reid and Super 5.

1. I honestly think the Eagles were looking past the Raiders

2. One God Awful play of broken and missed tackles that went for 80+ yards by a pitiful slow tightend.

3. Our offensive line could not open running lones let alone protect Super 5.

So, if you are sick over todays loss as I am....and you wish to vent.....come up with an educated complaint and lets not blame it on McNabb and Reid.....

I still say we end at least 10-6 if not 11-5.

Trotter returns to Philly

After two workouts in roughly a week and an absence of more than two years, veteran linebacker Jeremiah Trotter is back where he started.

According to Jay Glazer of FOX, the Eagles have agreed to terms with Trotter. Per Glazer, it's a one-year deal.

Trotter told the Philadelphia Daily News that his second workout was "two to three times better" than his initial workout.

Trotter also says that microscopic knee surgery from 2008 has improved his mobility.

"To say my knee is better is an understatement," he said.

Trotter could push Omar Gaither for the starting job, which Gaither inherited when Stewart Bradley tore an ACL during training camp.

Per guys like Sheil Kapadia of philly.com and Adam Caplan of Scout.com, Andrews is not at practice on Friday. He also missed practice Thursday, due to his ongoing back problems.

The development likely means that Andrews won't play Sunday at Carolina.

And maybe it means that the Eagles will get Jon Runyan signed in time for kickoff

In September, the Pats dumped him.

According to Adam Caplan of Scout.com, the Patriots have released Lewis, who caught three passes for 58 yards during the preseason.

A vested veteran, Lewis becomes an unrestricted free agent. His best season came in 2005, when he started 16 games (thanks in large part to the giant stick in T.O.'s butt), catching 48 passes for 561 yards.

Because Lewis made the cut on Saturday, our first guess was that Lewis had declined to take a pay cut. According to NFLPA records, however, his base salary was only $650,000. Unless he was due other compensation that he refused to reduce or abandon (such as a roster bonus), Lewis simply was holding the last spot on the roster as of today.

And it makes us wonder whether the Pats made the move in order to clear a place for defensive lineman Richard Seymour, whose trade to the Raiders looks to be tenuous at best, regardless of what anyone is saying.

UPDATE: The Patriots have announced the move, and they filled the roster spot with defensive back Bret Lockett, who was claimed on waivers from the Browns.

Any official word on Weaver's injury? Is he supposed to be ok? I heard it was just a mcl sprain. If so, is that official?

The FBFL. Alternative to Fantasy Football!

The FBFL and SFL Signups are now open for the 2009 season. Spread the word!!! The more players the more fun. Please do not procrastinate on signing up. The deadlines have been firmly placed this year.

The S.F.L (Suicide Football League) has a very simple concept. Each member has to choose one winner per week. Each member can only choose a team once. The same team may not be chosen again. When a member chooses a team and they lose, or the member runs out out of teams to choose, ie. playoffs, then that member is eliminated.
The object of the game is to stay alive as long as possible. The winner is the member(s) who lasts the longest. The winner gets the pot. If more than one member makes it to the end or the last remaining members are eliminated in the same week, then they split the pot.
Deadline for weekly picks. The deadline for the weekly picks is Friday night by midnight unless there is a Thursday game. If there is a Thursday game, picks must be in by Thursday at 12pm. If a member fails to put their picks in by the deadline, then they are automatically eliminated from the game. No margin of error here.

Each member may buy in more than once.

What is the F.B.F.L?
The F.B.F.L or Fake Betting Football League is designed to give the member the thrill of betting on game after game all season long without the risk of financial loss or breaking the law.
How does it work?
Each member of the F.B.F.L will be issued 1,000 credits at the beginning of the season. Every week, the member is required to bet a minimum of half their current credits or as much as he/she would like. Betting may be done on the NFL games of the member’s choice for that week. The member does not have to bet on all the games that week but must bet on at least two games until the end of the season when only one game remains. The bets are placed on the outcome of the game. The outcome is determined by a straight, old fashioned, win or loss. Spreads do not count in this league.
Money Lines: We will be using a money lines this season. This money line will be posted the week before the games to be wagered on. The money line will make the game more interesting. Money lines are like odds. You win more by betting on the under dog than by betting on the favorite. When the money line is +/- 100 it is the same as even money (you win what you bet).
Money Line Formulas:

If the member correctly picked the winner of the game he/she bet on, then his/her account will be credited the proper number of credits. If he/she picked a favorite (negative money line) the amount won will be [(bet x 100)/moneyline]. If he/she picked an underdog (positive money line) then the amount won will be [(bet x moneyline) / 100] If he/she chose incorrectly, the number of credits which were wagered will then be deducted from the member’s account. If the games result is a tie, then the member does not gain or lose any credits. Remember, a member may bet on as many games per week as he/she chooses. If a member does not place the bets for the week on time, then his/her account will automatically be deducted half of their remaining credits. Important reminder: Be cautious with your betting. There are 17 weeks to the regular season plus playoffs and the Super bowl. Once a member runs out of credits, there is no way to earn more.

Deadline for weekly bets. The deadline for the weekly bets is typically Thursday afternoon at 12 noon before that weeks games. If bets are not received by this time, then it will be considered a "NO BET" wager and half of the remaining credits will be deducted. For the weeks that have Thursday games, the bets are due by Wed at 12 noon. There are times that the cutoff date may change for a given week. Ample notice will be given by the webmaster.
League Prizes:

The leagues membership fees will be put into a pool. At the end of the season the leagues pool will be distributed to the five members with the most credits. The pool will be distributed as follows:
1st Prize = 50% of pool
2nd Prize = 20% of pool
3rd Prize = 15% of pool
4th Prize = 10% of pool
5th Prize = 5% of pool
Weekly Wagers:
******Important. Please read. ******
A minimum of half of the member's credits must be wagered per week on the NFL games of choice. A minimum of two games must be bet on each week until the Super Bowl. No more than your 75% of your weekly bets may be placed on an individual game. Example, If a member wishes to wager on two games this week for a total of 1000 credits, then no more than 750 of those credits may be on one game. Failure to bet the minimum points, the minimum games, or the 75% rule will be considered as an Invalid Week and half of your points will be lost. In no way will an invalid bet be used to save yourself from losing all of your points and going out of the league for the season (ex. you bet 100% of your points on only 1 game and lose the game....you will be out for the season...you will not be saved by only losing 50% of your points).
All wagers will be entered on the FBFL web site by each user. Each user will have a logon and a password to the site. Wagers can be changed while the week is open. Once the week is closed (at the weekly deadline), no changes can be made to your wagers. If you are having trouble with the website or you are not sure if your wagers are placed properly, you may email your wagers to me at thefbfl@gmail.com by the weekly deadline. The standard weekly deadline is Friday by midnight. If there is a Thursday game, the deadline is Wednesday at midnight. If you fail to login in time and your email is received past the deadline, it will not be accepted. If your wagers are posted online and you send an email as well, the online wagers will be used if there are differences. In any email, wagers should be placed in the following fashion: Amount being bet on team over team. ex. 30,000 on Philadelphia over New York , 15,000 on Green Bay over Tampa Bay. Failure to follow this format may be considered invalid wagers by the administrator if your emailed wagers are used for the week (you will lose half your points).
Membership Fees:
Membership Fees are $100 for the season and must be paid in cash prior to the season’s start. 90% of the membership fees goes towards the cash prize. 10% goes to the host for website fees and maintenance.
Each Member may have more than one account.
