Hey NatsTown! I'm in the same boat you are. Though I am a Mets fan, I live in D.C. and cheer for the Nats (when they're not playing the Mets mind you). Recognizing that the beginning of this season has been tough on us all I just wanted to share some info I've come across that (hopefully) will make your visit to NatsTown somewhat pleasurable.

I went to the home opener and didn't see any beer tent or festivities set up on Half St. between M and N streets, but maybe that was just due to my excitement to get inside the park. Regardless, the link above provides some information on what a proprietor has (or will) establish for pre-game/post-game activities directly adjacent to the Centerfield gate.

This link provides fans with info on places to grab a bite/have a drink/hang out before the game. Hope things get better. And soon.

How do you assuage a rookie mistake?

The Mets / Marlins pitching duel on Sunday afternoon was one of those rare gems in baseball that fans should come to love and appreciate. No one wants to see the game impacted by the result of an error but that's one of the things that can actually be appreciated, depending on who you're rooting for. The fact that whomever makes an error in such a tightly contested ball game just may come out the loser.

The past two seasons have not been kind to the NY Mets for obvious reasons and reasons that don't need to be regurgitated here. Perhaps what should be discussed is how the person (LF Daniel Murphy) and the rest of the team reacted to Murph's error yesterday which led to a two-run 2nd inning. Final score? Marlins 2, Mets 1.

The following story provides quotes from Johan Santana about Murph's mistake and how (and I'm paraphrasing here) it cost the Mets the game. Be that as it May, what's the appropriate response by veterans to a rookie who makes a mistake that costs the team the game early in the year? Should they talk about it amongst themselves in the dugout and the clubhouse? Do they need to make comments like this to the media? IMO, the comments aren't derisive, but they can be spun by the media anyway they like.

Well, it remains to be seen what, if any lingering effect this has on Murphy and the rest of the Mets team. Personally, I think there's too much of a veteran presence in the clubhouse to let this one game get them down. Then again, how many games last year were we shy of the playoffs?

Discuss.

Marc Fisher wrote an article in The Washington Post that talks about the lowly / lack of things going on around the Nationals ballpark. Due to no fault of their own, the revitalization of the industrial area that was (still is) Half Street seems to be serving as a lingering black eye for the Washington Nationals.

In a separate article here he continues to discuss the lack of improvement around Nats Part to include the Matrix like (my words) statues that the Nats Organization has incorporated to try and bring some life and history of a bygone era of D.C. baseball to the D.C. faithful.

Unbelievable comeback with the winning bat provided by Mr. David Wright with 1 out and bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th. Oh man, what a game!

If I’m not mistaken, throughout sports venue history, there has been at least one section of every stadium, ballpark and arena in which a portion of the crowd has established itself as the <strike>rudest, loudest, nastiest</strike>, most prideful bunch. The location of such a group is usually in a more ‘off-the-beaten path’ parcel of the venue. Usually in the cheap seats somewhere. Home of the blue-collar man. This locale is home to the section that gets the stadium going with chants and rants full of colorful language when the team is down and even when the team is up.

Groups that come to mind are the Cheese-heads in Green Bay, the malcontents in Oakland Coliseum, the Cleveland Indians with their drum corps and the Yankee fans who own outer right field @ Yankee Stadium.

I remember sitting in section 107 of Nats Park last year. The Nats were playing the Braves and we were giving Braves right fielder Matt Diaz a little tickle. There were some chuckles here and there and then came the fun. Two guys came walking down with large Incredible Hulk fists that held beer. Those things stood out like coal lumps in a hill of snow and everyone got a good laugh. Those two guys got in on the act a little bit and 107 became a little rowdy. It was great.

Establishment of a section like this (and one that holds its rowdy – but respectable – reputation) would really be great to see. The blog would be a great place to establish, run the logistics/coordination for and oversee an endeavor such as this.

Anyone else got any ideas on how to put fans in NATS TOWN on the map??!!!
