A "Realistic(?)" View of the 2009 Chiefs

I'd like to start out by saying I have limited knowledge of football. I played two weeks in High School, but was forced to quit when my job at Taco Bell wasn't flexible enough for three-a-day practices.

That being said, I've been a chiefs fans since I was 7. I've never jumped on or off any bandwagons, just cheered when they were good and hoped for a better next year when they under-performed. So I'm pretty neutral when it comes to predicting our record.

I think we will end up somewhere between 5-11 and 9-7.

Here's why:

Week 1 @ Baltimore Ravens - L Too much D for the new O

Week 2 vs. Oakland Raiders - W Home opener against a weak Oakland team.

Week 3 @ Philidelphia Eagles- L After the Raiders we won't be ready for this game.

Week 4 vs. NY Giants- L Our Oline will struggle to contain the pass rush and our run game won't provide any relief.

Week 5 vs. Dallas Cowboys- L Alot of talent, but possibly our best chance at a win against the NFC East.

Week 6 @ Washington Redskins- L A good D got better (on paper.) Pray we keep Cassel away from Haynesworth.

Week 7 vs San Diego Chargers- W Battle-hardened, we'll pull out a division win at home.

Week 8 Bye

Week 9 @ Jacksonville Jaguars- L Improved Oline will give Gerrard too much time to make mistakes.

Week 10 @ Oakland Raiders- W Cassel owns the Raiders and DHB isn't going to help on the other side.

Week 11 vs Pittsburg Steelers- L The reigning champs have improved and will play too tough for a KC team still learning to do the same.

Week 12 @ San Diego- L Division rival on the road who won't be willing to give us two in one year.

Week 13 vs Denver Brocos- W The Cutlerless Broncos will be underwhelming and Moreno won't be able to run over our improved D.

Week 14 vs Buffalo Bills- L Since last year's shootout, the Bills have added more weapons on offense. It won't be as ugly as last year though.

Week 15 vs Cleveland Browns- W The Chiefs will be firing on all cylinders after last week's game and the weapons-depleated Browns won't have an answer.

Week16 at Cincinnati Bengals- W Even with the return of Carson Palmer, the Bengals will fail to impress. It'll be close, but Cassel will outshine his former roomate.

Week 17 at Denver Broncos- W With 3 wins in the last 4 games, we'll have momentum and Pioli will want to finish strong against McDaniels' team. After the game McDaniels will still be asked questions about the Cutler fiasco.

FINAL RECORD- 7-9

I don't see us winning any less than 5 games, however we'd be hard pressed to come away with more than 9. If we end up going 9-7, we could win the Division. (It would've last year.) If we can get our foot in the door, so to speak, Haley and even Pendergast have proven they can step it up in big games.

Let me know if you think any of these games will turn out differently than what I've got here. Although, in reality it was impossible to predict the out come of last years games well into the 4th quarter.

Live Wire: Inside Bill Belichick

It's obviously a slow evening, so I was checking out some old videos. This one had some interesting information in the end that caught my attention. I guess Matt Cassel's father died around week 14 last season and he came out in week 15 and threw 4 touchdown passes in a 49-26 routing of the Raiders earning the game ball for his dad.

I think that says a lot about Matt's determination and character and I'm really excited to see him at Arrowhead this season!

Chiefs signed a free agent

According to 810, the Chiefs have a conference call around 4pm, to announce a free agent signing. I couldn't find anything online to support this, but they've mentioned it twice on the show.

Kevin Kietzman was speculating a WR, but really had no idea. They also said they don't expect it to be a big name, but more along the lines of what we've seen more recently.

I know this post doesn't have much info, but I just wanted to alert the AP family of the signing!
