Silver Screen and LOL - 4/30
Well, here it is.
You guys/gals re-named the create-a-caption contest. This is the 1st edition of the Silver Screen and LOL caption contest. Enjoy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edition 2.2 (season #2, contest #2) of SS&R's "unofficially official" create-a-caption contest has begun. The time to submit captions for week #6 has ended and the rec's have been counted. The winner for last week's contest was..........................{drum roll}.............................cldpc.
Congratulations to cldpc on this week's win. It's his fourth overall win in the create-a-caption contest. Someone else will need to step up big time in order for him not to be named this next champion. There are 2 "weeks" left in this contest. Thanks to those of you who participated in this weeks contest. I hope to see most of you posting in the new C-A-C thread, as it makes it worth while when more people participate in the post.

Re-Name the Create-A-Caption Contest
I've come to realize that the name that I originally gave to the create-a-caption contest is pretty bland, and needs an immediate facelift. OK, maybe not a complete facelift, but just a nose job.
Hey, you. Create Humor. Now! I mean, how unoriginal can we get. We can do much better than that. With all the great minds around here, I thought we could come up with something pretty good.
Silver Screen and LOL Hall of Fame
I'm going to let the this post speak for itself, so......
In honor of our past winners, and past champions:
Silver Screen and LOL 1.1 Champion - C.A. Clark
Silver Screen and LOL 1.2 Champion - bluexfalcon
Silver Screen and LOL 1.3 Champion - Joshua S
Silver Screen and LOL 1.4 Champion - AJackson729
Silver Screen and LOL 2.1 Champion - Koshu

Hey, You. Create Humor. Now! 4/7 & 4/14
Sorry for the delay.....
To make a long story short, lets just say that the company that I work for has lost all internet activity for a the unforeseen future. We are contracted through the department of defense, and we got a legitimate hacker from another country that got past our firewall. We get 1500+ attempts to get past our firewall a day, but this one actually got past it, and attempted to steal important information. I'll try to keep these posts going. I just have to find the tim to create them at home.
This weeks post will be a double feature. I will post two pictures. You can create a caption for both of them as many times as you want. Just explain which picture you are captioning. Maybe put #1 or #2 in your subject line.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edition 1.4 (season #1, contest #4) of SS&R's "unofficially official" create-a-caption contest has begun. The time to submit captions for week #6 has ended and the rec's have been counted. The winner for last week's contest was.................. {drum roll} ................... AJackson729.
Congratulations to AJackson729 who won by a landslide. Thanks to those of you who participated in this weeks contest. This will be the last contest before 1.4 Champion is named. So pick up your game. I hope to see most of you in the new C-A-C thread, as it makes it worth while when more people participate in the post.
Again, this post was created to be a place for random conversations about NOTHING AT ALL. Feel free to post any thoughts you have whether it deals with the caption contest or not.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How To Play:
Create a caption from the picture in the FanPost and post it as a comment. Only one caption/gif/picture can be used per post. You can, however, create as many captions as you wish. The post with the most rec's will win, and recieve the most points for that week. Each contest will run for about 2 months.
How points are earned*:
1st place : 5 points
2nd place : 4 points
3rd place : 3 points
Honorable mention : 2 points
Favorite comment : 1 point
*points are given out on a weekly basis, and in the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by me (LFE).
Contest Rules:
1. "The C.A. Clark Rule" - You cannot win two contests in a row. If you are the winner of the previous contest, you can participate and recieve points, but you will not be named the winner (even if you have the highest point total).
2. "The shaqfor3 Rule" - You can only post one caption at a time. This applies to gifs, pictures and multimedia posts as well. You can post as many captions as you want, but each one has to be seperate from the others.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
See below for AJackson729's comment as well as the 2nd place, 3rd place & Honorable Mention captions.

How many championships has Kobe won without .... blah blah blah
I was browsing through one of my favorite blogs the other day. Perhaps you know it, its called Silver Screen and Roll. There is some great stuff there. The writers put out fantastic articles about everything Lakers, that you won't get anywhere else on the Internet. I was having a hell of a time reading through comments, until I stumbled on this:
"..... How many championships has Bryant won without either Shaq or Gasol?"
I get SSSSOOOOO tired of this argument.
(And I'm not trying to call out this user. I'm just stating my opinion about this issue, that has been brought up many times before)
This question popped up in another thread and I started to make a response. However, I got a little carried away, and after a while, I realized it was several paragraphs long. So I decided to turn it into a FanPost, so that it would get a little more attention than sitting in a FanPost that is 9 days old.
How many championships has Shaq or Gasol won without Kobe or Wade? This argument could go back and forthfor hours. Nobody knows what would happen or how many championships a single player could win alone, because every team is made up of multiple players, and 5 of those players have to be on the court at the same time. 1 Player cannot carry a single team. And as you will see below, not even great players like Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson were able to carry a team on their own.
Every GM, well almost every GM (KKKKAAAAAHHHHHNNNN), is going to try and put the best 5 guys out on the court to try and win that championship. A single player cannot carry an entire team. It just isn't going to happen in the NBA. With so much talent in the league, every championship team needs 2 or 3 guys to carry the team to a championship.
So, to kick things off, let me ask you a question. When has any player in the history of the NBA won a championship without another perennial All-Star on his team to help carry the load? Let's take a look.

Is Andrew Bynum The Laker's Franchise Player of The Future
Andrew Bynum has been a hot topic as of late. He has played extremely well, as our third fiddle none-the-less, ever since he returned to the starting lineup. The Lakers have gone 12-3 since then, with loses coming at the hands of the "always-tough-against-the-Lakers" Memphis Grizzlies, the "then-hot" LA Clippers & the "we're-coming-out-of-our-shooting-slump-tonight" Dallas Mavericks. (Gil, please don't put that sentence in the excuse thread, LOL) He has averaged nearly 14 points, 9 rebounds & 2 blocks a game, while shooting 59.4% from the field and 79% from the free throw line. This doesn't include the numerous amounts of SOBOA's Bynum has altered over that time period. (props to JA Adande for coming up with SOBOA - "shots over Bynum's out-stretched arms")
Having been a member of SS&R for over a year now, there seems to be two opinions about Andrew Bynum. Two very different, and very strong opinions about the Lakers starting center.

Comments On Kobe Bryant
A look at other players and coaches comments on the black mamba. An interesting video on how other people view his game. This is part 1 of 3.

My Introduction to The Staples Center
The Lakers moved into The Staples Center just before the 1999-2000 season. They have won 5 titles since that time.
And it is hard for me to say this, as I am a huge Laker fan, but I had never been to Staples Center for a Laker game. That was, until Sunday afternoon, when the Lakers played against the Clippers. And what an introduction to Staples Center it was!

Edition 1.2 (season #1, contest #2) of SS&R's unofficially official create-a-caption contest is OVAH. The winner for last week's contest was.................. {drum roll} ................... bluexfalcon.
Blue has pulled off the comeback of the century!!! Winning the last three weeks, as well as taking 1st and 2nd place in this weeks contest, to take over the leaderboard in comanding fashion. This comeback was so epic, I feel obligated to call it a "2000 WCF Lakers vs Blazers" comeback.
The leader board for the 2nd contest looked like this:

bluexfalcon: 25 points
LakerAce: 18 points

bluexfalcon is the Create-a-Caption Contest Champion 1.2!!!!!!!!
The leader board will be reset this week and the next edition of the contest will go for two months, at which time champion 1.3 will be named. New contest starts NAO!!!
Thanks to everyone that participated and I hope to see you all participate in this week's create-a-caption contest, as everyone has a fresh start. This weeks contest will (most likely) run for 2 weeks. I wont have a ton of free time to sit down at a computer and post a new one cuz we'll be visiting the in-laws for Christmas. If I have some spare time, I'll throw one together real quick.
Again, this post was created to be a place for random conversations about NOTHING AT ALL. Feel free to post any thoughts you have whether it deals with the caption contest or not.

Laker Fans Represent At Energy Solutions Arena
Being inspired by bluexfalcon and Czheck, I thought I would continue the tradition and post several of the pictures I took while watching my Lakers play against the Jazz in Salt Lake City. Maybe even tell you a little about the happenings of that evening. Most of the happy memories came from warm-ups and the first quarter. Everything went down hill from there......(as you all know)

The Lakers "little brother" team may suck, but Blake Griffin is beasting. Check out these highlight dunks he threw down the other night vs. the Knicks.
Again, not sure if this has been posted already, as its a little old.
But I was LMAO when I watched this. Phil Jackson is a G!
This is old, and Im not sure if it has already been posted, but I thought it was pretty funny.
One thing to notice, is that this came out before the Old Spice comercials. So who was the first one on a horse?

I wanted to find the Lebron & Kobe interview after seeing a part of it on the "Kobe's Signature Fadeaway" FanShot.
Pretty interesting. Definitely alot of respect between the two.
Another Griffin highlight. Sorry 'bout it not being about the Lakers. His first NBA basket.
I know its not about the Lakers, but its the team we share the building with. Looks like they will actually be exciting this year.
Blake Griffin is a beast. Dunk of the year nominee in his first game back. Left handed putback jam!
Honoring Past Laker Champions, By Simply Remembering Them
The Los Angeles Lakers are widely considered as one of the greatest franchises in sports history. Some other sport franchises that are considered when talking about the greatest are the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Steelers, Boston Celtics, Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Dodgers, St Louis Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, San Antonio Spurs and Montreal Canadians. But one thing has been more consistent with the Lakers than with any other franchise: WINNING.
The Lakers are the greatest franchise in sports, period. Even though they do not have the most championships in the NBA they are without a doubt better than the Celtics (the proof will come after this years NBA Finals). In the Lakers 63-year legendary history, they have won 16 championships. (17 if you count the NBL championship - but I'll get into that a little later) They have the highest winning percentage of any team in the MLB, NBA, NHL and NFL with an amazing .619.
The Lakers have only missed the playoffs five times. So, they have made the playoffs 58 out of 63 seasons, a 92.0 percent. They have won their division 32 times and they have won the conference championship an unheard 31 times, just under half of the seasons they have played. On top of that, they only once had consecutive seasons of missing the playoffs.
Since the modern sports era (which many consider 1970) they lead all teams in any league with 11 championships and 19 Finals appearances. The team also has had arguably the best owner ever in all of sports in Jerry Buss. Since Buss bought the Lakers in 1979, the winning percentage of the Lakers had been .660 and they have made the playoffs in 29 of the 31 seasons.
The Lakers also have had two of the best coaches ever in Pat Riley and Phil Jackson. Riley won 4 rings with the Lakers while Jackson has won 5 rings while having 7 Finals appearances. The team also had as good as any GM in any sport in Jerry West, who orchestrated the signing of Shaquille O'Neal and the trade for Kobe Bryant. "The Logo" is one of the greatest Lakers ever, considering what he did in his playing career as well as after it.
The Lakers also arguably have had 8 out of the 25 greatest players in the history of the league in Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal and George Mikan. They also had arguably the best team ever in the 86-87 Lakers when the league was in the most competitive era it has ever seen. That Lakers team dominated the league and finished the regular season with a record of 65 - 17, and beat the Celtics in the NBA Finals, 4-2.
The 1986-87 team consisted of Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, Byron Scott, AC Green, Michael Cooper and Mychal Thompson, all of who averaged double digits points for the entire season. Some other players on that team were Kurt Rambis and Billy Thompson. And this is the reason I am creating this post. To brush up on history and honor all of the past Lakers championship teams, by simply remembering them. When you read this post, you are honoring each team by remembering what they have done for the greatest franchise in sports history.**
**Much of this information was taken from Wikipedia and Marcel Mansour, a senior analyst at Bleacher report. See his original article here: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/119441-10-greatest-sports-franchises-of-all-time.

The 2002 Lakers score 14 points in 50 seconds
The 2009 - 2010 Season In Images & Video
I went home yesterday after work and was sitting around waiting for the wifey to get home, when I went to the very bottom of my DVR que and saw "NBA Playoffs: Boston Celtics @ Los Angeles Lakers, Game 7 NBA Finals" and decided to hit play. The highs and lows of that game were insane! Going from a 13 point deficit halfway through the third quarter, to tying the game halfway through the fourth quarter with Fisher's 3 pointer, to having Ron Artest sink the dagger 3 pointer with a little over a minute left to play. T'was a very nice victory, especially over the Boston Celtics.
After the game was over, I began to think about the highs and lows and the craziness of the season and thought it would be pretty cool to do a FanPost of the highs and lows of the season (in chronological order, of course). So here goes nothing........
Hope ya'll enjoy it!!!

Hey, You. Create Humor. Now! 8/31
I've been wanting to do this for a while now, and really haven't been inspired to create a FanPost, until I found a picture that I recently posted in the credits. See it here: The Credits: "Anchorman". I'll save that picture for another time as I'm sure it would create some lude funny comments that need to be kept tucked away until this contest has gotten off on the right foot, lol.
Similar to how the rough cuts have taken over the start of this long offseason (even though i haven't seen one in a while........... who's turn is it anyways..........) I'd like to start a weekly ritual. With all the humor and inside jokes that fly around this blog, I think we could come up with some pretty hilarious comments in a create-a-caption contest. I'm going to try to post a picture every Tuesday for us to experiment on. I'll try to keep them Laker or NBA related, but sometimes I may not be able to resist. Create as many captions as you want, just make 'em funny. The comment that receives the most rec's will win. In the next weeks post, I'll tell you who the winners are (the top 3-5 answers) and attach the new create-a-caption picture. I'll also keep a running tab of who has the most wins. At the end of the season, the winner will be declared and crowned Create-A-Caption Contest Champion 2011 (CCCC 2011 or 4C '11). You will win bragging rights for the year and possibly and year supply of cookies (did someone say CUHKIES!!!!!!!!)
and maybe Dex will even throw in his secret combination to his cat pic vault (which I heard is guarded by a cat who he equipped with some high-tech weaponry..........)
Continue for the actual Create-A-Caption Contest picture. Remember to have fun. The best remedy for anything in life is laughter.

Larry Bird Could Have Been A Laker?
(special thanks to bluexfalcon for the picture)
While doing research on my previous FanPost, The Greatest Transactions In Laker History, I came across an article written back in 2001 by Sports Illustrated. It discussed the worst trades made by the Lakers front office, based on the view of the fans. The trade may have turned out to be a blessing in disguise, but most of these trades were very unpopular among the Lakers' fan base. Some that were included on the list were the Lakers trading Adrian Dantley, Eddie Jones, Norm Nixon & Vlade Divac (That last one turned out pretty well for us, wouldn't you say). Check out the original article here: Say It Aint So: Transactions That Broke Our Heart.
One trade in particular caught my interest as it went into detail about how it could have prevented the Boston Celtics from acquiring Larry Bird. That's right, the Lakers could have prevented Larry Bird from joining Kevin McHale and Robert Parish to become the arch-nemesis of the Lakers.
