Private Visits Are Misleading

1

Per Len Pasquarelli: Last year, more than 80 percent of the prospects who met with clubs were not chosen by teams with whom they visited. That's a large large number. Makes you really think, who are the Chiefs truly targeting. People point to Phil Taylor, but maybe the Chiefs brought him in to check out that bad knee. Maybe they brought Akeem Ayers to check his personality. This stat really brings credence to reports about private visits meaning almost nothing when it comes to which players teams draft.

No Consensus on Chiefs Pick at #21

I love the fact that we aren't picking in the top 5 this year. However, picking at 21 makes it EXTREMELY difficuly to try and pin point who the Chiefs are going to draft. We all have our opinions on this pick, and so do draft analyst. Below is a quick run down of what players are being mocked to KC. NFP - Wes Bunting - DT, Phil Taylor NFL.com - Pat Kirwan - OT, Gabe Carimi NFL.com - Steve Wyche - DT, Phil Taylor NFL.com - Brian Baldinger - OLB, Justin Houston NFL.com - Bucky Brooks - OLB, Akeem Ayers NFL.com - Charles Davis - OT, Gabe Carimi ESPN - Mel Kiper - OLB, Akeem Ayers ESPN - Todd McShay - OT, Gabe Carimi KCChiefs.com - Josh Looney - OLB, Justin Houston CBS - Rob Rang - DT, Phil Taylor CBS - Chad Reuter - C, Mike Pouncey As you can see there is no consensus.

NFP: Wes Bunting's 2-Round Mock Draft

21. Kansas City: Phil Taylor, DT, Baylor Taylor looks like an ideal fit at the nose for Romeo Crennel’s defense in Kansas City. 55. Kansas City: Titus Young, WR, Boise State Reminds me a lot of Chicago wideout Johnny Knox from an athletic standpoint, but is more polished at this stage and could end up having a nice career as an explosive downfield threat.

Kansas City Star Predicts the Chiefs 1st Round Pick

37
******UPDATED****** "The safest of picks among players who could fill a need and reasonably be available when the Chiefs make the 21st selection is Wisniewski of Penn State." Kansas City Star Mock Draft: Round 1 - Stefen Wisniewski Round 2 - Leonard Hankerson Round 3 - Sam Acho Round 4 - Marcus Gilbert Round 5 - Ricky Stanzi This is one of the worst first round picks I've seen for the Chiefs. Not only is Wisniewski not worth the 21st pick in the draft, but he isn't even a top 4 interior linemen. Players like Maurkice Pouncey, Danny Watkins, Ben Ijalana, and Rodney Hudson are all better. The Star needs to do better than this...People talk about the hype around Pouncey being because of his brother, well the hype around Wisniewski is definitely because of his name. He's a good player, but I don't like him until the late 2nd round-3rd round.

NFP: Draft Trends - AFC West

1

When analyzing the first round picks made by the Kansas City Chiefs since 2001, two things stand out: Defense and the SEC. Six of Kansas City’s last nine first round picks have been spent on defenders while four of those last nine picks have come from the Southeastern Conference (in particular, LSU). Kansas City has demonstrated an impressive balance in their selections over the last ten years, drafting 38 players from both the offensive and defensive sides of the football. 17 picks (21.5%) have been dedicated to the defensive line, while a team-high ten draft picks (12.7%) were spent at the wide receiver position. 1. The Chiefs have selected exactly zero centers since 2001, but have spent two draft picks on kickers and one on a punter. 3. Over the last ten years, the Chiefs have drafted just two offensive linemen within the top 100 picks. 4. Since 2001, the Chiefs have drafted more defensive tackles (7) within the top 100 picks than wide receivers (3), running backs (2) and quarterbacks (1) combined. Lots more great info on National Football Post about the Chiefs and the draft.

Are the Chiefs interested in Akeem Ayers? Despite a poor performance at the NFL Scouting Combine, Akeem Ayers is still highly touted by NFL teams. According to National Football Post writer Aaron Wilson: "teams are extremely high on Ayers, including the... Kansas City Chiefs." I realize that a lot of Chiefs fans aren't big on the idea of Ayers, but I think there's a good possibility the Chiefs take him if he's available...

Blueprint: Sustaining the Success of the Kansas City Chiefs Hey Chiefs fans! As some of you may know, I did a few mock offseasons last year that made their way onto the front page (My Proposal To Fixing My Beloved Chiefs). This year, I'm back at it again. It took me a while to get this out, but hopefully the hard work pays off. I hope you guys enjoy it and will join me in debate.

Will Rackley to Vist the Chiefs April 1st

5

Josh Buchanan of JBScouting.com has reported that the Chiefs have set up a private workout with Lehigh OG, Will Rackley. He's been sky rocketing up draft boards. Very versatile and athletic interior offensive lineman that can play any one of the three positions. Excels in the run game. "@JoshBDraft: Rackley also has private workouts with the Chiefs on April 1st, and Dolphins and Lions on April 5th."

I usually hate Brian Baldinger, but he is spot on in my opinion with his analysis. He pins two of my favorite prospects for the Chiefs.

Coaches Tape: "Akeem Ayers 2010 Highlights" Here is an 11 minute highlight reel of Akeem Ayers. It gives some insight to his playmaking ability and potential as a 3-4 SOLB. Its long, but I think its worth the viewing. Many people have varying opinions on Ayers. Some think he is tentative and not cut out for the 3-4 SOLB. Others think he is versatile and a bona-fide playermaker. I tend to agree with both statements. This reel shows off the playmaking ability of Ayers, and why I think he could be a solid player in the Chiefs scheme. I think the tentativeness that you see stems from playing 5 different positions throughout a game, and having all of those responsibilities and assignments. Most goofed at his forty-yard dash at the Scouting Combine. The 4.8 didn't concern me one iota. He plays much faster than that on the field. As you can see in the video, he can bend the edge and get after the quarterback quickly.

What position do you "honestly" think the Chiefs will draft in round 1? Taking into account the history of Scott Pioli's previous drafts, positions of need, value at the 21st pick, and strength of the draft, what position do the Chiefs go after in round 1? There are many theories out there. Here are a few: - Defensive trenches are most important, and Pioli loves to draft DL in the first round. - Pioli will not draft offensive linemen in the first round. Those guys can be had in the middle round. - There are no receivers that hold value at 21. - Offensive line is the most important position, and there are guys that hold value at 21. - Hybrid OLB's are too much of a risk, especially given the recent history of the draft. What do you guys think, what position will it be and why? 1. Nose Tackle 2. Offensive Tackle 3. Wide Receiver 4. Center/Guard 5. Outside Linebacker (3-4 Hybrid)

A lot of people have expressed interest in Mike Sims-Walker as a potential #2 receiver for the Chiefs. Here's a good highlight reel of his 2009 season. BEWARE: There may be a clip that causes night sweats and nightmares. Watch at your own risk.

WTFP: Larry's 2-Round Mock Draft (Updated 3/2/11) Lots of changes after some of the performances at the NFL Scouting Combine. I'm sure 90% of Chiefs fans won't like the first round pick, but it's how the draft shook down. Give me some feedback and let me know your thoughts.

Report: Patriots sign DT Stroud

The Patriots have signed veteran defensive tackle Marcus Stroud to a two-year contract, according to a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter this afternoon. Stroud, a 10-year veteran and three-time Pro Bowl selection, was recently released by the Bills after three seasons in Buffalo. The 32-year-old Stroud was scheduled to make $4.5 million next season according to the report. Financial terms of his deal with the Patriots are unconfirmed.

Schefter: Sidney Rice to Test FA

Adam Schefter via Twitter: Drew Rosenhaus said his client, Vikings WR Sidney Rice, will not re-sign with Minnesota before first testing free agency. Update via Jason Laconfora: If the NFLPA decertifies, he could end up being restricted free agent with 4 accrued seasons.
