NCAA Tournament McCoven Challenge
Since selection day is done (LOL GAELS!) I thought it might be fun to create a group where we can gloat about our NCAA tournament brackets.
Points awarded for correct picks. I've already completed my bracket (the picks are mostly pulled from jcb9's ass.)
Details after the jump because I am trying to use up 75 words:

Braves send Yunel Escobar to Jays for Alex Gonzalez
Seems pretty early to give up on Escobar.
We ARE a bunch of nerds!
US Census Bureau say that SF has more people with bachelors or graduate degrees per square mile than any other city.
LOL STEVE PHILLIPS!
Phillips wants the Nats to trade Strasburg for Roy Oswalt.
"Even WFAN host Mike Francesa was incredulous over Phillips’ suggestion, saying "never" to the idea. But the former GM didn’t stop there, asking Francesa, "Do you think that Strasburg is going to be Roy Oswalt in his career?"
The host said yes, to which Phillips said, "I don’t know that. And even if he is, if I think that I want Roy Oswalt to help me win this year, you know what? I’m one of the guys, I make that deal."
LOL AGENT NED!!
"Why is it? Because he got a new deal? Can't tell you. But you know, it's below-average. If this is the last day of the season and people are voting for the Gold Glove, his name is not even on the ballot. It's a shame that he would go from where he was a year ago to revert back to when the ball goes up in the air and you're not sure where it's going, or if it's going to get caught."
Ben Sheets to the A's
Excellent signing. He could have been this season's Brad Penny.
GIANTS BRASZ!!
SJ Giants Oppose A's Move To San Jose
I think it is pretty clear that this is being backed (and financed) by Neukom and Co. I seriously doubt they will get the city to back down, but I believe this effort is more of a stall tactic than anything.
Asked who is paying for the law firm and the San Francisco public relations agency that's assisting the fledgling group, Weyermann would only say the San Jose Giants were not footing the bill.

OT - Something to do while waiting to crush the Dodgers
Catapult the guard, princesses and kings!
Super easy and kind of addicting. The best part is going back to the old castles you have already beaten and using upgraded amo to obliterate them.
Don Fehr Steps Down as head of MLBPA
Finally. This guy is as guilty as Selig for all of the PED stuff that has gone on.
OT - YOU'RE GONNA LOVE MY NUTS!!
I told you guys that the squinty Vince shamwow guy was trouble!
Jeff Passan has a punching bag face!
Plus, you can sum up his Giants analysis for 2009 with "LULZ GIANTZ R OLD!!
Larry Baer on MLB Network
He was interviewed by Reynolds and Vasgergian. I will try to take down as much as I can catch...
In general:
"We want to get back to the run we had starting in 97. We want to accomplish that without giving up our young promising players."
Regarding Manny:
"We are interested in Manny. It would need to be a perfect fit. We can't sign a player to a contract that would prevent us from doing something 2 or 3 years down the line. We are talking to Scott Boras. Nothing is close but we definitely have interest."
Regarding Randy Johnson:
"RJ is a great bridge to the young pitchers we have coming. He is in good shape. He is from the bay area. We hope he can stay healthy and pitch for more than 1 year."
Upcoming '09 celebrations at the park:
"in '09 the Giants are going to celebrate the '89 world series team. Players from the Giants and A's will be honored."
Regarding Jeff Kent:
"Jeff Kent will be honored at the park. We will definitely campaign to get Jeff in the HoF. Hopefully as a Giant."
Random silliness:
Vasgergian asked Baer to bring back Crazy Crab. (another reason to hate Matt)
Special Agent Jack Avoids Arbitration
No word on the amount of the 1-year deal.
The Orioles Like Pie
The Cubs get Garrett Olson and A-baller Henry Willianson
MLB Channel Comcast 412
I know this channel doesn't "officially" go live until Jan 1, but it is already on my cable menu. I have Comcast and I am located in the east bay, so you cable-having folks form around these parts might want to check it out.
Right now, they are showing highlights from the '05 World Series. I have no idea if this is temporary/introductory type of thing or if they are going to be showing highlights until the official launch.
Satisfy your baseball watching jones immediately...and by all means, have some pie while doing so.
A team isn't a team unless it has *two* pitchers making $120,000,000. Welcome to the offseason.
NOT CATCHY ENOUGH!
Baggs: Lincecum Open To Contract Talks
I am glad that Tim is ready to think about some security. Although this announcement coming right after winning the CYA is no coincidence. Obviously, his arb years are going to be way more expensive to buy out than Cain.
What would be your offer?
Heyman: Holliday traded to the A's
Explain this to me, please?
Judy Steffes has nothing on Mildred Holt!
Don't be too concerned about the premature livelihood start, Tim. There will be other junkets.
