OT: New Star Trek Movie
First, there won't be any spoilers in this part of the FanPost, but no guaruntees about anything else posted below.
So, honored McCoven nerds and nerdettes, what did you think of the new Star Trek movie? I assume you all went out and saw it last night like I did, Vulcan ears and all. Anyways, I liked it. In fact, I thought it was a damn good movie. Definitely kept true to the basic spirit of Star Trek and the original series, but gave a nice modern take. One thing I could have had just a little less of was lens flare, but that was a minor thing and not that big a distraction. All in all, it was a lot of fun, so a two thumbs up from me.
But enough about what I thought, how about you? Am I spot on, or should I turn in my nerd card immediately? Sound off.

Jinxes
So first I'd like to take the opportunity to apologize to everyone in Giants land for taking a couple of trips in the last few weeks. The first was getting married and going on our honeymoon up to Tahoe the first part of July during which the Giants lost 6 in a row and more recently, the trip south to visit in-laws where the Giants were swept and The Enchanter didn't get his win. Going on trips, it seems, is not good for the Giants' record.
Anyways, thinking about this (over a diablo shrimp burrito and a couple beers) made me curious about what activities you all do that just guarantee a Giants loss. Or on the brighter side: a win! (like Grant's undefeated record whilst watching from a luxury box).
So let's have a good old fashioned shooting of the breeze for baseball superstition.
Wild tales and farfetched yarns encouraged.
And don't mention that no hitter.

Giants batting stances
A while back, tobias posted about a friend of his who did impersonations of different team's batting stances. At the time, there wasn't a video for the Giants. Now, however, there is. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81f0sN9t_EE. Very well done.
Hopefully this isn't a repost. I did a search of the site, and didn't see that anyone had mentioned that a video for the Giants was up.
The end is my favorite, he really nailed Rich Aurilia.

Thoughts on Bonds
In 1993 the Giants signed Barry Bonds. I was 8 and living in Japan for a year and had no idea what was going on in baseball in America. Before that I had some interest in baseball, I played a bit of little league but I didn't have any serious link with any particular team. Once I had moved back to California, my father being a Giants fan, I naturally was a Giants fan too. Nothing serious, really. Just watched the occasional game on TV, or went to a game at the Stick once or twice. But slowly I started to follow the Giants more and more. And yes, it is a little bandwagony, but I think 2002 cemented me as a Giants fan for life. There's no way I could root for another team.
But through all those years, there has always been a Barry Bonds on the Giants. Someone who could and would change the game with one swing or do something spectacular. Those older and wiser of you remember Giants teams before Bonds, but for me the Giants have always had Barry Bonds. A superstar that was a Giant through and through, not just some awesome free agent signed for a few years then moving on to greener pastures and higher dollars.
The Giants without Bonds will be different than any Giants team I've ever known, and I think it's definitely going to feel like something is missing. So thanks, Barry, for the good times and hopefully we'll see you around the park from time to time.

OT: A place to rent in SLO?
I've noticed that a few of the McCoven around here are from San Luis Obispo. Since I'm currently attending Cal Poly and still haven't found a place to live for the coming year, I was wondering if anyone around SLO either has a room they want to rent or knows someone who has a room (or house, even, I have friends still looking) for rent. I'm not expecting too much from this, but I figured it was worth a shot to see if a fellow Giants fan could hook me up. You can shoot me an email at Larson2042 -at- gmail.com if you know of anything. Thanks everybody.

Going to the game today!
Happy Tim Lincecum day! Goin' to the game today, and hoping to be one of the first 20,000 to get the team card set. I will, of course, be rockin' the McCovey Chronicles angel-quotation t-shirt (though sadly faded) in addition to my kick-ass last minute sign:

I'll be in section 115 and apparently the seats are way at the bottom, so there's a chance I'll be shown on every pitch. If that ends up happening, I'll try not to embarass myself by picking my nose or being generally annoying. I'm pretty pumped, it'll be the best seats I've ever sat in.

Official Enchanter Debut Prediction Diary
So now that we've all heard the Good News, time to get down to business: how will Tim Lincecum do in his major league debut? My prediction: 6 ip, 9 SO, 2 BB, 0 H, 0 R. Only 6 innings due to pitch count limitations.
Post yours below.

The Who!
Out of curiosity, did anyone else see the who last night at the hp pavillion in san jose? I did. And then drove back for class at 9am the next day. Hooray for middle of the week concerts. But it was worth it. Very much worth it.
PS. Grant, the money is in the t-shirts. 35-80 dollar t-shirts.

A question for those in the know
If, for example, you were going to this saturday's 6:05pm game and wanted to be one of the first 3000 fans to go on the field and take pictures, how early would one want to arrive? Assuming that wearing one's McC t-shirt doesn't move you to the head of the line automatically.
