Austin Toros Advance to Round Two of D-League Playoffs

I love it that Squeaky Johnson rose to the occasion. A 5'10" backup point guard who has been with the Toros for three years? You couldn't find a better hero.

The Joys of Self-Analysis or What Color Is PtRs Parachute?

In the comments to another post, we digressed in our usual madcap, PtR way into a bunch of references to various personality inventories. What the hell are those, you may be saying, to which I...

And the Hornets were tied for the eighth playoff spot, too.

Game Thread #34: Dallas Mavericks @ San Antonio Spurs

I sat through all four quarters of the hardest football game I have ever had to watch last night. Here's what it felt like: So I'm predicting a Spurs win, because I DESERVE IT.

PtR Quick Cap: Spurs Prevail Over Pistons, 112-92

I've never done a QuickCap before. So here's what you get: you get my notes from the game. Lucky, lucky you. Tony Parker shoots the ball using only the intensity of his gaze. First quarter:...

Game Thread #32: San Antonio Spurs @ Toronto Raptors

Apologies in advance for the hackishness of this game thread. We're going bare bones today--call it "Game Thread Classic." I hope I get to participate later, but ah, life . . . she does not give...

Game Preview #31: San Antonio Spurs @ Washington Wizards

Happy New Year, PtR readers! You know, we've been posting things along the lines of "It looks like just possibly the Spurs might perhaps be about to begin playing decent basketball" for what seems...

Game Thread #30: Miami Heat @ San Antonio Spurs

So long, 2009! For me personally, you weren't nearly as good as you were expected to be. You can partially redeem yourself tonight by ending in a rare and much-longed-for Spurs victory over a team...

The Gregg Popovich Experience (Slam Online)

5

"No, what I’m going to give you is something different. There’s just one reason to go see the Spurs as a member of the media, and that’s the ability to listen in — and participate, if you dare — in Gregg Popovich’s pre- and post-game media sessions. Sure, it’s fun to watch Tony Parker’s pell-mell drives, Manu Ginobili’s languid jumpers (somehow, he manages to be languid and frenetic at the same time) and of course Tim Duncan’s continuing march towards the Hall of Fame. But you can see great basketball nearly every night. There are only two Pop sessions at the Garden per year, and whether you have something to ask or not, they’re not to be missed. It’s a back-and-forth, to be sure, but sometimes it can be a bit like a junior tennis player serving to Andre Agassi in his bewigged prime, complete with more pauses than Nate’s Twitter feed. Here’s the complete transcript of Pop’s pre-game session." -- Russ Bengtson

Game Preview #28 - San Antonio Spurs @ New York Knicks

So I'm really just waiting on the game against the Christmas Deer to dictate the tone of this preview. Will it be A) "What a great game! Now that's more like it!" or B) "A win's a win, I guess, but...

Friday Night 11-Game Loser Thread

Game Thread #23: San Antonio Spurs @ Golden State Warriors

Hey there. S'up. We have a game to win tonight, right? You bet I'm right.

Game Thread #22: San Antonio Spurs @ Phoenix Suns

The Spurs are slowly but surely becoming a true team. Will they evolve to well-oiled machine status? Are we running out of time? It's time to win against a quality opponent on the road. As Pop...

Dear Secret Santa

I have no idea who to thank for the KD-cover issue of ESPN The Magazine that arrived at my house. I have a feeling the culprit has to be from PtR--so few others in my life assign basketball its proper significance, and fewer still understand my Durantula love. That magazine was a lovely thing to find in the mailbox. If you're reading this, thank you. (And did you know he's afraid of dogs because they used to chase him when he was a kid? I think he needs a puppy.)

Say what you will about the Suns, but they have a great sense of humor. Even though not one of them can sing a note.

Miami waives Randolph; creates roster space

Looks like Miami is getting ready to make a move. And another Dukie bites the dust.
