Hey, I'm Daniel Lavender, and here's a bit about me.

I'm entering into my second year with The Ranger News as a sports reporter. The Ranger News, or as we lovingly shorten it TRN, is the University of Wisconsin Parkside's student paper.

I joined on in fall of 2009, which marked the start of our paper going from print to an online resource. I contributed a fair amount, from women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, and touched on a few different articles sport related as well.

Currently, I'm the Executive Editor of The Ranger News, as I was given the nod toward the end of the spring semester in 2010. I've also started doing radio work for Parkside's student radio 88.5 FM WIPZ Radio. I'll be working color commentary for men's and women's soccer, and will perhaps do a bit more than that too.

All in all, when I'm not goofing around with friends or people here, I'm an English major at UW-Parkside, shooting for the writing concentration. I'm also trying to get a certificate in Sports Management, as I've really enjoyed the courses involved with the major.

Each day since I've started working seriously in reporting for TRN I've felt more and more confident in myself. It's a dream to try and get into the field as a sports journalist, and I feel more and more confident that I can get there. I have a realistic take on where I am, but even through the little that I've done it's meant a lot personally, and I'm continuing to pursue that dream.

If there's anything you should learn from college it's who you are, what your strengths are, and how hard you're willing to work for something. For me, I've learned my share, and I'll always be working hard.
