Let's Make a Deal
Would love to see us get a proven pass rusher...not sure what I'd give up for him...maybe second round pick what do you think?
Bengals potential trade partner?
The Bengals are showing quite a bit of interest in Newton. They could make for an interesting trade partner. I could see a couple of scenarios working out with the Bengals: 1) No agreement reached between players and owners straight picks for picks trade – Us #1 (pick value 3000) for their #5 overall 2nd 3rd and either this years 4th (overall pv 2710) or next years 3rd (overall pv 2800) round picks. This would net us the extra picks we need this year to stay in the top in the top 5 and select an impact player (Gabbert, Dareus, Green, Peterson, etc.) as well as moving back to the top of the 2nd round (Mallett, Austin, Ponder, etc.) and picking up some extra picks. Or 2) Players and owners reach some agreement – Us #1 overall for Carson Palmer (I still believe he has some good tread left on the tires) #5 overall, 2nd and 4th round picks. This would allow for some interesting decisions do you go for a Gabbert or Mallett this year and let them learn under Palmer or decide we can wait on a QB and go for a playmaker WR in Green or big DT like Dareus.
Personally I would prefer the second option get Palmer then draft Green at #5 overall and look at Marvin Austin in the 2nd round. Something about an offense with Palmer at the helm Green as the #1, Lafell/Gettis opposite and Smitty in the slot screams success to me. You have your big body go up and get it guy in Green, solid second guy in Lafell/Gettis and Smitty as your sure hands get to the sticks get separation for a first down and then run after the catch attack. I could see this combination being very effective for us for several years to come. Then you have Palmer there to help bring along Clausen/Pike and if they aren’t showing improvement look for a future QB in next years draft.

Put up or Shut up
Free agency is quickly approaching and Mr. Richardson has made promises to do the things necessary to bring this franchise back to prominence. With that being said there are some positions that can be quickly addressed with the names that are starting to float around as potentially or already available. First I guess we would have to identify the positions of need - QB, DT, CB, OG and maybe WR (I know Gettis and LaFell are coming along) specifically come to mind. With that said two of these can be addressed very quickly and upgraded very nicely through free agency if he truly is willing to shell out the cash.
Props to former Panther
I know know many of the Panther faithful despise Collins; but I am glad to see that he was able to straighten himself out and have a successful career. I just wish he could have worked his demons out and played that type of ball here. I say congratulations to another former Panter for reaching a significant milestone in his career.
Justin Hartwig news
We need depth on the OL and especially at center how about bringing back a familiar face? We have plenty of money to spend and a reliable center who can play guard as well would be a great addition to the team.
Excited About the Offense,
That’s something we don’t hear about the Panthers much. For the first time in a long time I am excited about seeing what the offense is going to look like this season. Sure we’ve had Double Trouble and Smitty (who are always exciting) for the last few years; and don’t get me wrong, they make the game interesting to watch, but for the first time in a long time I’m genuinely excited to see what will happen on the offensive side of the ball. This year is different new QB new WR options and exciting competitions in camp.
More after the jump....
