Self-explanatory. From Friday night's game v. the Gnats.
A's Pitcher Finds Way to Back Up Bold Words
The New York Times picks up the never ending saga of Braden calling out Pay-roid. Are they not aware of the titanic battles the Yankees and Oakland used to have?
Sam Fuld! Oh how some people miss thee. From last season's series in San Francisco.
Andy White Bunts for a Triple Against Boston
Yes, he should have been out; and it came on two errors, but it's still pretty awesome. Heads up base running on Blanco's part.
Fast forward to about 1:15. Glad to see he's getting playing time down in Texas.
PlayStation to Stream Pro Baseball
Yes, you read it correctly. Playstation owners will soon be able to stream live out of market games on your television!
The Show thinks we'll end up in last place. I disagree, but it'll be interesting to see how accurate their simulation is at season's end.
OT: San Francisco's Unlikely Tourist Stop - The TL
Is The City really that desperate for new tourism revenue that they really want to turn the Tenderloin into a tourist "destination"? Glad I moved out of the neighborhood.
Remember the "Natinals" fiasco from last year? Here's another one courtesy of Los Gigantes. Read closely.
Throw Out Skybox Tax Subsidies
Richard Schmalbeck is a law professor at Duke. Jay Soled is a professor at the Rutgers Business School. Together they discuss the negative effects of professional sports pursuit of the "luxury" market.

Hemingway's 'The Opening Game'
I stumbled across this at the end of last season; who knew that Hemingway's earliest known poem was about the Cubs?!
It deserves re-posting here.
The Opening Game
1st Inning
With Chance on first, and Evers on third,
Great things from the Cubs will soon be heard.
Then up comes Schulte to bat,
On the plate his bat does rap;
Takes a slug at that old ball,
Makes it clear the right field wall,
Then comes Chance and in comes Evers,
Such hits are seldom seen -- 'most never.
Then to the bat comes Zim in haste,
He sure knows how the ball to paste.
He slams that ball upon the Bean,
Almost seems to make it scream.
The center fielder nabs the ball;
It seems as if 't' would make him fall.
But stop of this rank stuff,
Just one inning is enough.

Of all the rotten luck. Fortunately, she appears to be okay.

Khalil Greene Contract Voided By Rangers
I didn't see this posted anywhere. If it has been, I apologize.
Citing continued problems with "social anxiety disorder," Greene informed the Rangers that he wouldn't be reporting to ST, and the club voided his contract.

The question: should the Cubs be looking to shore up the middle-IF, is this somebody they should take a look at? He was signed on the cheap by Texas ($750k), and after seeing his defensive skills on display in '07, I would take a shot on him. A rather promising career has been undercut by these mental health issues, and if he can overcome them, could be a valuable asset starting, or off the bench.
Of course, we could all be in love with Castro by then.

The Opening Game
It has been asked here in years past if Hemingway was a Cubs fan; a Sun-Times article from '04 suggested that he was at least a baseball fan well into his adult life, often inviting the Brooklyn Dodgers to Finca Vigia. The same article portends that a young Hemingway asked his father for a trip to West Side Park to see the Cubs take on the New York Giants.
We do, however, know that he wrote about the Cubs -- once. Rather than wait until next year, I thought I'd post it now, and every Opening Day until the Cubs win it all.

Rawlings S100 To Become Mandatory in 2010 For Minors
You remember that new batting helmet Al mentioned? Well, Bud "Conflict of Interest" Selig and Rawlings have agreed to a deal that will make it mandatory for all Minor League teams starting in 2010.
Demp is quoted in the article, and I agree with him: it's bulky. I wouldn't wear it, because it becomes too much of a distraction in the box, and on the base path (after trying it on at Champs). I still think there's some issue with peripheral vision, but that remains to be determined.
Could Cliff Lee Steal the NL Cy Young?
Interesting article out of Cleveland.
If I'm voting for the Cy Young, my one-and-two votes are a toss up between Matt Cain & Tim Lincecum. Chris Carpenter doesn't get my vote because we're biased, as we should be. However, the numbers Cliff Lee has put up in five starts are damn impressive.
See what you think.

Anybody remember this documentary? My copy was destroyed, and I've been looking for a replacement.
