You mean, it looks like they're gonna sign Brandon after all? And I thought that 5th year was a deal breaker. Sure, he's one of the ten best players in the NBA and he's only getting better, but the short term savings are hard to pass up, huh?

Maybe this will be the end of the doomsday scenarios, though I know some of you worryworts won't be sated until the ink is dry on the contract.

Roy, Aldridge and Oden invited to summer USA Basketball camp.

For their sake, you hope that if they choose to go that they do well. Though I do have a bit of trepidation regarding this.

You knew it was only a matter of time before Roy would be asked to play for team USA. And with that comes less R&R time over the offseason to cool down. But these guys are still young now, thankfully. Should be ok for a while.

The gratitude on this site is absolutely overwhelming these days, and for good reason! I think it's also high time we thanked the Junk Drawer as well......with another junk drawer.

Anyway, all this thanking is reminding me of my favorite holiday of the year. Thanksgiving is great because it's an excuse to eat a ton, watch football, embarass your family and take four days off of work in a row. It's also an excuse for many to spend beyond their means in sales, which is clearly good for the economy and by extension, good for America.

I haven't gotten to start one of these before. Huzzah!!!

Anyway, I posted this in yesterday's JD, but got no response. Does anyone out there have an mp3 or other audio file of the original Blazers theme music? I'm not really looking for any ot the remakes that get shown before every TV broadcast now, but the old school one from back in the day with the trumpets and everything. Can anybody point me in the right direction? I'd be ever so grateful.

Hypothetical Tie-Breaker Scenario

The race for playoff seeding in the Western Conference is extremely close. Closer than its been in quite some time. One of the things I like to look at on ESPN.com is Hollinger's Playoff Odds. The percentages and projections are fun for impatient people such as myself. Here's the way they're looking right now:

If you look at the projected records, it shows that five teams (Denver, Utah, Houston, New Orleans and Portland) are projected to finish with a 51-31 record each. A FIVE-WAY tie for third!!! I can imagine the team that finishes 7th in this case feels pretty cheated. So how would this tie be broken??? Well, I did a bit of research and here's what I found:

(Note, this is all based on current tiebreaker statuses, and could change as the rest of the season unfolds. This is just for fun.)

First, the division champions have to be determined. Right now, Utah has the lead in the NW Division, so we'll keep them as such for the purposes of this.

Next, the best record amongst games between the five teams must be calculated. Currently, the ranking for that goes as follows:

Utah: 7-4

Denver: 5-8

Houston: 7-3

New Orleans:5-6

Portland: 5-7

So, based upon those projections with the tiebreaks listed above, here's how the final standings would look:

1. LA Lakers

2. San Antonio

3. Houston

4. Utah

5. New Orleans

6. Portland

7. Denver

8. Dallas

That would set us up for a series with Houston. Having Greg would be very nice for that.

So, that's that. It's not going to be accurate in two days, let alone two months. But it still shows a bit more about just how close this race could get.

Stu Jackson said that Ariza will not face any further punishment following the hit on Rudy. Looks like they're still deciding about Odom, however. He may get a game for leaving the bench.

Looks like there will be three competitors for this. Kevin Durant, OJ Mayo and Joe Johnson. Should be entertaining. I don't know that there's anything Kevin Durant can't do when it comes to scoring, so he's my early pick to win this.
