UW Dawg Pound Husky Stadium - Mini Update

First, I'd like to wish everyone a very happy Memorial Day weekend, we will forever remember the brave soldiers that gave their lives for the freedom's we enjoy today. I get goose bumps every time the Husky Marching Band starts playing God Bless America while forming the flag pole and then the playing of the star spangled banner while the Flag slowly starts to wave faster and faster! I can't wait to see it in the NEW Husky Stadium!!

Speaking of Husky Stadium, I told John and the guys I'd post another update today, but the "visual stimulation" has quite picked up as quickly as I thought it might. I even started to get worried that the construction progress was falling behind schedule. The University's "Key Construction Milestones" chart, the steel erection for the football facilities building was suppose to start in early May. Know that it is late May, I got curious, so I went back to Bob Condotta's blog entries from April 23rd when the were given a tour of the construction progress. On April 23rd they were told that the steel for the FFB would start going up in little over a month, meaning this next week could be filled with a lot of visual stimulation. I don't know if this would classify as "falling behind schedule", a few weeks can be made up quickly during the summer months in Seattle.

On to the pictures! As always, the pictures are courtesy of the Husky Stadium Webcams, which you can find at http://oxblue.com/open/huskystadium. Don't forget to click on the pictures for the full resolution image.

Picture #1 - The real fun of this past week was watching as they continued working on the middle deck. They are no longer under the covering of the North Upper Deck and have turned the corner toward the FFB (much easier to see if you look at the full resolution picture). If my eyes are as good as I think they are, the next horizontal beam will get connected to the upper foundation wall of the FFB

UW Dawg Pound Weekend Debate

SEATTLE - SEPTEMBER 11: Running back Chris Polk #1 of the Washington Huskies rushes for a 53 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter against the Syracuse Orange on September 11 2010 at Husky Stadium in Seattle Washington. The Huskies defeated the Orange 41-20. (Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)

Welcome to the newest addition to the UW Dawg Pound weekly schedule, the Weekend Debate. The plan is to pose a question to the Dawg Pound faithful every Friday and to let everyone hash it out over the weekend (snarling, growling and barking is encouraged).

We are going to start off the debate with one of the most glaring questions facing Husky football in 2012, who is going to fill the shoes of the great Chris Polk? To answer the question, we first have to look at our options. The two leading candidates are going to be junior Jessie Callier and sophomore Bishop Sankey, with the dark horse being Deontae Cooper. No offense to Willis Wilson, Erich Wilson, Jonathon Amosa, Ryan McDaniel, or Psalm Wooching, but if any of them lead the team in rushing this year, it's going to be a long season.

First let's have a look at Jessie Callier, he's 5'10'', 203 lbs and has played in all 26 games his first two years at the UW. His freshmen year, Callier had 77 carries, 433 yards rushing, for an average of 5.6 yards per carry. In 2011 Callier had 47 carries, 260 yards rushing, for an average of 5.5 yards per carry. Callier also has a lot of experience on special teams, after his sophomore season he was already ranked #2 on the UW career kick return yards list with 1,309 yards.

Next up we have Bishop Sankey, he's also 5'10'', 197 lbs and has played in 12 of the 13 games in his first season on campus. In 2011, Sankey had 28 carries, 187 yards rushing, for an average of 6.7 yards per carry.

Finally, the dark horse, Deontae Cooper, he's 6'0", 197 lbs and has missed the last two seasons, each due to knee injuries.

UW Dawg Pound Husky Stadium - The wind is starting to pick up!

Ten days ago I commented that we were in the calm before the storm, this week, the wind is definitely starting to pick up! The last week has provided quite a bit of visual stimulation, which you'll see below. All pictures are from the Husky Stadium webcams at http://oxblue.com/open/huskystadium, be sure to keep an eye on them, things are beginning to change quickly. As always, don't forget to click on the pictures to see the full resolution image.

Picture #1 - The foundations of the football facilities building are 99% complete, the only thing left is a rather small section of the front wall that is being used as an access point. I expect to see major changes coming very soon to this section. Today, a mammoth blue crane was delivered and is being assembled. I would be surprised if we don't see some of the structural steel being delivered and assembled as early as next week.

UW Dawg Pound Question of the Day:

Thanks to Bob Condotta at the Seattle Times, this week we learned that EJ Savannah and Kavario Middleton both were invited for tryouts with the Seahawks. My question for the UW Dawg Pound faithful (the unfaithful people can vote too): Who is more likely to get an invitation to the Seahawks training camp?

I think it's pretty obvious that the odds are pretty slim that either one will get an invite to training camp, but anything is possible right? If I was a betting man, like B Money, I'd put my money on Savannah. I think both players have the natural ability necessary to be NFL players, but I think Savannah is far more likely to put in the time and effort to reach his potential.

Let's hear it, what do the Dawg fans think?

UW Dawg Pound Husky Stadium - The Calm Before The Storm

Hello Dawg fans!

I hope the construction workers don't take offense to the title, they are still working their butts off and making great progress on the foundations of Husky Stadium. That being said, I get the feeling that we are in the calm before the storm and the real fun is just around the corner.

According to the official timeline, the steel structure for the football operations building is scheduled to start going up this month. Then, in mid June, they will start building the steel structure for the south stands. From our point of view (mainly the web cams), I expect the next few months will be the most visually stimulating of the entire construction process. Let me explain: The first few months were great, lots of demolition and excavation. The last few months, you can see some changes, but a lot of the work is smaller in scale and a few days can go by without anything "big" changing. With the steel structures going up, the visual stimulation should be at an all time high over the summer. Next winter, while they put most of their efforts on the interior, I expect the visual changes to be minimal again.

Here are the usual pictures of the latest construction progress. This week I tried to add a few more "action" shots to show the work as it is happening. All pictures are from the Husky Stadium webcams, which you can find here: http://oxblue.com/open/huskystadium. Don't forget to click on the pictures for the full resolution image.

Media members were given a tour of the Husky Stadium construction site today. Bob Condotta's blog has multiple videos, from many different vantage points, it's well worth the time.

As somebody that has spent way too much time looking at the Husky Stadium webcams, I find it amazing to see the scale of the construction from the ground level. You just don't get an accurate feeling of size and depth from the webcams! It's also good to hear that the construction is on schedule and on budget, not to mention that they have reached $48.5 million of the $50 million goal in private donations!

UW Dawg Pound Husky Stadium Update

It's tax day! Hopefully none of you have waited until the last hour to get your taxes done. If you are in the process of writing a big fat check to Uncle Sam, just remember not a single penny of it is going to our beloved Husky Stadium. Doesn't help, does it?

On a much happier note, the construction crews are making incredible progress on the stadium. The foundations of the football facilities building are mostly complete, they even have a large part of the concrete floor in place. The official construction timeline calls for the steel framework for the football facilities building to start going up in early May, but it looks like they could start on it any day. Speaking of which, yesterday saw a big change as the crews already started putting in the steel framework under the south stands!

Below are the usual pictures courtesy of the Husky Stadium webcams, which you can find at http://oxblue.com/open/huskystadium. Things are changing daily and I get the feeling that the next few months will some of the most action packed from our point of view! As always, don't forget to click on the pictures to see the full resolution image.

Horrible news out of Montlake this evening. I can't even begin to describe how bad I feel for this kid, he was a stud on the offensive line and will be greatly missed on the football field.

UW Dawg Pound Off Topic: Favorite Burger Joints

What is it about food and football that go so well together? A few weeks ago I read an article in the Seattle Times about Dick's Drive In winning an award for "Most Life changing burger", which reminded me of our almost yearly debate over which burger joint is the best. First, I have to say that no burger is "life changing", you must realize that this coming from a guy who LOVES food. I like to tell my copilots that, "I love food, and the older I get, the more it loves me!" That being said, which burger joint is your favorite?

As a pilot, I have the joy of traveling on a regular basis and get the opportunity to eat at restaurants that aren't available in the great Pacific Northwest. Every trip I get to California, the first question we ask upon landing is, "Where is the nearest In N Out Burger". It's a great little bonus to traveling, but my wife doesn't seem to appreciate me eating there so often . . . . . . . .without her!

When it comes to football, I consider myself a highly educated fan. When it comes to food, I consider myself an expert. A little background to support my claim, while attending flight school I spent almost four years working in the food and beverage industry. One of the Chef's I worked with was a pilot, which created a great working relationship. After a year of his tutelage, he moved on to another job and ended up hiring me as a banquet cook at the top hotel in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Recently Dick's Drive In has opened a new location in Edmonds, which is much closer to where I live and has given me ample opportunities to sample their cuisine. Now that I've had the opportunity to eat at Dick's, In N Out and Five Guys on a somewhat frequent basis, I feel the need to reopen the argument and give my take on the best burger joint on the west coast. I wanted to add Fatburger to the list, but I've only had one opportunity to eat there and can't seem to find them during my travels.

UW Dawg Pound Husky Stadium Update - The South Side

My last update focused solely on the west endzone and the football facilities building that will be contained with in it. This week I'm going to focus on the construction progress happening on the south side of the stadium. The west section has been great fun to watch, especially having design schematics that are mostly current to make sense of what I see. Thanks to the addition of the Sports Medicine facility in the south side, I am left with out of date schematics that leave me guessing, but a few pieces to the puzzle are coming together.

Below are the usual set of pictures and a cut up of the design schematics to help make sense of what's going on so far. Don't forget to click on the pictures for the highest resolution image, and as always, don't forget to visit http://oxblue.com/open/huskystadium to see the Husky Stadium webcams for yourself.

Picture #1: The south side this morning, most of the excavation is complete, foundations going up rather quickly and they are working on the walls of the second tunnel. It looks like the second tunnel is going to be rather long, thin, and dark. Not a bad way to make opposing teams get to the field!

7003799699_ff12ded8ea_b_medium

Picture #2: This is an inverted design schematic to help picture the future. In the original design, the entire white area was not going to be excavated, now they have excavated almost the entire area down to a few feet of field level creating much more room.

UW Dawg Pound March Madness happening at Husky Stadium!

If you thought this story was about basketball, you don't know me very well. I'd be willing to bet some of you guys were wondering what happened to me lately, I've been hibernating through basketball season while anxiously awaiting spring football. Actually, it's been a combination of the down time in college football, combined with plenty of flight time.

Speaking of work, on Monday I was leaving Boeing Field around 2 pm, when I got on I-5 northbound I found myself right next to a Semi Truck with a trailer full of "geofoam". I specifically remember asking myself if this stuff could be headed to Husky Stadium. Today I got the answer to my question. In the picture below, you can see where the geofoam is being placed next to the lower concrete wall that will become the football facilities building. At the top of the picture you can see where the geofoam is stacked until it is put to use. Don't forget to click on each picture to see the full size version.

UW Dawg Pound Husky Stadium Construction Update - Week 16

The Husky Stadium construction crews have been at work for 16 weeks now and they are getting the job done! It's amazing to see how much dirt they have moved and how quickly they are getting the foundations set for the new stadium. Below is the usual set of pictures from the Husky Stadium Webcams, with a few quick pointers on the progress at the stadium. I find it rather exciting to see how much they have already built, it won't be long before they start putting up the steel skeleton that will become Husky Stadium!

Here is a great picture showing the entire construction site from www.huskystadium.com. Don't forget to click on the images to see the full resolution image.

UW Dawg Pound State of the Program - As viewed from 45,000'

I know it is a highly over used concept, using the yearly State of the Union address and applying it to our favorite team, but the timing works very nicely in college football. Now that signing day is over, we can close out the 2011 chapter of Husky Football and start preparing for the 2012 chapter.

The greatest perk of being a pilot is the stunning views you see as you travel. I've been to the sunny beaches of Florida, the frozen tundra of Alaska, and everywhere in between. You really can't appreciate the world we live in until you've seen in from high altitudes. Just a week ago, while over Crater Lake in southern Oregon, I could see the Three Sisters, Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Rainier. It's pretty impressive when you can see roughly 400 miles in every direction!

Flying at high altitudes is quite similar to being a sports fan, you think you can see everything, but the distance causes you to miss the smaller details. That's also the perspective of my State of the Program article, I think I see everything, but reality tells me there are tons of small details that we as fans can't see. Here is one pilots opinion of the current health of the UW football program:

UW Dawg Pound Husky Stadium Construction Update

It's been a few weeks since our last construction update and these guys aren't wasting any time. The construction crews have basically finish the demolition process, the only thing still to be torn down is the old scoreboard, which they started dismantling this week. They have finished excavating the west endzone area and are now working on excavating the area under the south stands. The amount of dirt being trucked out of the stadium is mind boggling.

With the demolition being finished, the construction process for the new stadium is well under way!! The construction teams have been busy working on the foundations of the football facilities building and the new tunnel. A special thanks to kirkd for helping me find the design schematics that were released in January, 2011. Unfortunately the schematics don't show the addition of the 30,000 square foot sports medicine facility under the south stands. I'm left to guess what changes have been made, as they progress on the excavating of the south side it should be come more clear.

Below are the usual pictures showing the current progress on the stadium, courtesy of the Husky Stadium webcams at http://oxblue.com/pro/open/huskystadium. Also included will be a few pictures of the design schematics, followed by a picture I've doctored up to help give you an idea of where the new facilities will be. Don't forget to click on the pictures to get the full size version, and as always, comments and questions are appreciated, I can't get enough discussion of the new stadium!

UW Dawg Pound Expectations for the 2012 Husky Defense

A month ago, we were still debating what the problem was with our Husky defense. Was it a lack of experienced players? Was it coaching? Were we getting enough top level recruits for the defense? It was left to Baylor to quickly settle the debate, they made it known that everyone of us were right! The answer became blatantly obvious: All of the above.

In the last month Coach Sark has completely remodeled the defensive side of his coaching staff. The way he did it reminds me of the Husky Stadium remodel, completely tear down any structure that is old and replace it with the latest and greatest. After Demetrice Martin left of his own accord (smart move), Sark completely gutted the defensive staff. Holt, Cox, and Mills were fired, while Nansen was reassigned to other duties. After the complete demolition of the coaching staff, Sark made waves throughout the college football world by hiring one of the top groups of assistant coaches in the nation.

Without saying a word, Sark told us that coaching was a big problem with our defense. The subsequent hires also told us that Sark thought that recruiting was also a problem. The addition of Wilcox, Sirmon, Heyward and Lupoi will be a big boost to recruiting for the entire team, but especially the defense.

Now that we have figured out what all the variables will be, what are your expectations for the 2012 Husky defense? Before we can attempt to predict the future, we must take a look at the past.

UW Dawg Pound Snow Day 2012: A tour of the new Husky Stadium

Like many people across Western Washington, I've been lucky enough to spend the day at home enjoying the winter weather from the warmth of my couch! What does a good, self respecting, Husky fan do on a snow day? Normally, I'd spend plenty of time watching the ongoing construction at Husky Stadium, but the snow has been slowing them down too!

6723051999_99427b4492_b_medium

As many of you know, I have a certain place in my heart for the construction process and have been glued to the Husky Stadium webcams. Due to the lack of activity caused by the snow, I've been spending a good amount of time perusing the Husky Stadium Virtual Venue at http://www.huskystadium.com/virtual-venue. It's great fun getting a look at the stadium from the many different views.

A few years ago, I ended up sitting in the west endzone stands while Notre Dame was in town. I quickly decided it would have been much better to stay home and watch the game on TV. The more I look at the pictures of the new Husky Stadium, the more I'm amazed at how close those seat are. From what I've read, the west endzone seats will be about 150 feet closer to the field! Much like Century Link Field, there won't be a bad seat in the house. I can only imagine how much louder the new Husky Stadium is going to be.

Here's a quick pictorial tour of our future, click on each picture for a full size image. GO DAWGS!

UW Dawg Pound Out with the old, in with the new!

You thought this fan post was going to be about Nick Holt didn't you? Sorry to disappoint you, but I thought it was time for some more pictures of Husky Stadium! If you can't get fired up about building a brand new, $250 million dollar stadium, on the most scenic piece of real estate in the Puget Sound . . . . . . you don't have a heartbeat.

Here's a pictorial tour of the ongoing events at Husky Stadium. I highly recommend you check out the Husky Stadium webcams for yourself at http://oxblue.com/pro/open/huskystadium, which is where I collected all of the pictures below.

UW Dawg Pound PAC12 PICK 'EM - THE CHAMPION IS . . . .

The final results have been tallied and the 2011 PAC12 Pick 'em Champion is . . . . . (insert drum roll) . . . . . kirkd!!!

Right about know you are asking, "but I thought we had two categories", you are correct. For the first time in the history of the contest (2nd year) we have a dual champion. Kirkd won both the Straight Up category and the Against the Spread category. Being that this is the end of our "season", I thought I'd take it upon myself to hand out a few additional awards.

Champion - Straight Up: kirkd

Champion - Against the Spread: kirkd

Perfect Attendance Award - Presented to those who picked every game: John Berkowitz, Gekko Mojo.

I Beat Vegas Award - Present to everyone who was better than .500 Against the Spread: kirkd, JohnnyCougar, CAHusky, SeaHuskies, B Money, hairofthedawg, John Berkowitz, Lear Pilot.

The True Dawg Award - Presented to anybody who keeps a fan of the Cougars or Ducks from winning our contest: kirkd (for keeping Johnny Cougar from winning the Against the Spread category, even if only by .001)

The 2011 Washington Husky Imitation Award (aka The Dual Personality Award) - Presented to those who do great on one side of the ball, but give up tons of yards on the other side of the ball: Bob Condotta - He should get a raise for his performance in the Straight Up category, but should be fired for how he plays Against the Spread

The 2011 Washington State Cougar Imitation Award: Present to the person who had a disappointing season, but closed out the season with a bang: Lear Pilot, John Berkowitz

The Oregon Duck Award - Presented to the person who did the most talking, but still came in second place: Gekko Mojo

The Nick Holt Award - Present to the person who gave up the most "yards" in a category: Crazidawg (Straight Up and Against the Spread), Bob Condotta (Against the Spread)

That's it for this year, it's never to early to start our off season conditioning to prepare for next years contest. GO DAWGS.

UW Dawg Pound Husky Stadium South Roof is DOWN!

I did a fanshot, but then decided this needed it's own fanpost. While checking Facebook after lunch, I noticed Softy had mentioned that the south roof was ready to fall. A little later the construction teams working on Husky Stadium collapsed half off the south upper deck roof. It's pretty cool to see how quickly they are progressing on the project.

Here is a picture of the south upper deck taken at 1:00 pm. Notice the middle of the roof is sagging down a bit. You can click back through today's pictures on the webcam and see when it first started to sag. I think it was around 11:30am - 12:00pm.

Here's the really fun picture, taken at 1:13 pm this afternoon. It didn't take much longer before they had half of the roof collapsed:

Shortly after noon today the construction crews collapsed the second half of the roof on the south upper deck. Here's some pictures for your enjoyment. I'll try and add video when it's available.

UW Dawg Pound Husky Stadium Construction Update

My name is Lear Pilot, and I am addicted to the Husky Stadium Construction webcams. Here's a direct link: http://oxblue.com/pro/open/huskystadium

Now that I have that out of the way, it's been a few weeks since my last stadium update, so I thought I'd post another update on the Stadium's construction progress. I'll start with the pictures I posted last time and then add the webcam pictures from this morning to show the amount of progress that they've made in only three weeks. Don't forget to click on the picture to see the full size picture.

Camera #1 - The first picture was taken on November 21st, the second picture was taken this morning December 10th. The most obvious change is the lower bowl has been completely removed. Only the upper portion of the lower bowl, the covered portion of the lower bowl remains. I'll bet those will have to stay until the entire upper deck is dismantled. This week they fenced off the entire South structure, if you look closely at the second picture in the upper right hand corner, you'll see people working under the roof, probably preparing to start taking the roof off. I was reading somewhere that the plan is to peel the roof off and then to remove the steel supports.

UW Dawg Pound The myth: Our defense is younger and less talented than our offense.

I thought I'd do a little digging to see how much young and less talented our defense was compared to our offense. I used Scout's recruiting database to determine how many years each starter has been in the UW football program and how many stars they got as a incoming recruit. Then I tried to pair up an offensive player and a defensive player based on equal time at UW and equal stars as a recruit.

The Results: The 12 offensive starters totaled 44 stars and 31 years of time in the program. The 12 defensive starters totaled 40 stars and 31.5 years of time in the program. Glenn has been here 4 years, Fellner 3 years, for the stats they were averaged at 3.5 years. As you can tell, the numbers are scary how similar they are. That being said our offense does have a small talent advantage.

Obviously this is not a very, very, very, very simple way of looking at things and it leaves us with a lot of questions and not a lot of answers. I think it does disprove the myth that the reason our defense isn't up to par with our offense is youth and inexperience. Don't get me wrong, they are both very young (great news for the future of the program), but the gap is much less than advertised.

The question is why the disparity between the offense and defense on the field? If the numbers are so close, why do we have the 33rd ranked offense and 94th ranked defense? Did we do poorly on our evaluations of the defensive players? Did we do better at developing our offensive players? Has the defense been hit with far more injuries than the offense? And if so, why?

Here's the comparisions:

UW Dawg Pound PAC12 PICK 'EM RESULTS - WEEK 14

I must say this was the easiest week to collect the results! Truth be told, I had it mostly done before the game even started, I just need to know if Oregon covered the spread.

Congrats to EVERYBODY (except JoeinFW), we must be a really smart group, we went an amazing 1-0 straight up! Who ever would have guessed that Oregon would win?

Congrats to JoeinFW, Gekko Mojo, Sundodger, hairofthedawg, kirkd, lorenzothedog, and JohnnyCougar for correctly picking Oregon to fail in covering the spread.

Not much change in the standings and with only 7 games left to pick, we have a pretty good idea who is in the running for the championship.

Straight Up: It's a two horse Dawg race between Gekko Mojo and kirkd, only B Money is within striking range. Sadly there will be no repeat champion in this category, I couldn't be more disappointed. This should bring a whole new meaning to bragging rights, I doubt either Gekko or kirkd will let the other forget who won over the next year.

Against the Spread: I'd call it a three horse Dawg race kirkd, JohnnyCougar and CAHusky. Can CAHusky be our first official repeat champion or will kirkd be able to pull off the first ever dual championship and win both categories?

GO DAWGS!

UW Dawg Pound PAC12 PICK 'EM RESULTS - WEEK 13

Looks like we are nearing the end . . . . .of the yearly contest, we only have one game to pick this week, then the PAC12 bowl games. I'm sure John will post a pick for the championship game, but feel free to post your pick here (if needed), I wouldn't want you to miss out on a free win by picking Oregon, but will they cover??

Congrats to Purpleheart (6-1) and B Money (6-1), both were smart enough to pick Cal over ASU and to correctly pick the rest of the games. Spencer Peaty get the honorable mention going 6-0, but luckily missed out on the Colorado/Utah game.

Congrats to Lorenzothedog, he was the only person to go 6-1 against the spread, pretty darn good for another tough week.

The race continues between Gekko Mojo and kirkd for the Straight Up category, Gekko still holds his one game lead. I doubt kirkd will go out on a limb and pick UCLA to win the PAC12 championship game, especially with the bowl games remaining.

We also have a great race in the Against the Spread category, kirkd slipped past CAHusky by half a game. Although I expect everybody to pick Oregon over UCLA, picking against the spread should be much more interesting.

Bob Condotta - I'm sure we all visit his Seattle Times Husky Blog on a regular basis, if you don't, you are missing out on the most up to date Husky news. That being said, while looking through last years stats, I was reminded that I added his picks to our results. He is up with the best of them in the Straight Up category, but is down in the Crazi range in the Against the Spread category.

UW Dawg Pound PAC12 PICK 'EM RESULTS - THANKSGIVING EDITION

Once again the results are a bit later in the week than I intended, who would have guessed that this would be a busy week?

Congrats to JoeinFW, the only person to go 5-1, not a bad job on yet another unpredictable weekend. Too bad he made the homer pick and picked UW to win (just like the rest of us).

Congrats to JohnnyCougar going an amazing 5-1 against the spread. Isn't it my turn to use the Delorean??

Gekko still holds a one game lead over kirkd in the Straight Up category.

Officially we have a tie for the lead in the Against the Spread category, I have a feeling that CAHusky and kirkd are going to battle to the very end. 206Dawgs fell below the required 75% level, but not far, he should be able to get eligible if he makes picks this week and during the Bowls.

I'd like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving, the perfect holiday, food and football. GO DAWGS

UW Dawg Pound A Little Pick Me Up - Dawg Style

I've read a few comments that we need are in need of some positive article these days. What better way to take our mind off the last few loses, than to talk about the progress being made at Husky Stadium

Am I the only Husky fan that is already addicted to the Husky Stadium Web Cams?? They have become a regular part of my morning sports websites routine. A little background might help, I come from a family of construction workers, both my dad and uncle ran their own construction companies for decades. My brother and cousins still work in construction, I on the other hand didn't want to be breaking my back in this cold November weather on a job site!  As a kid, I would often get to spend summer days on the job "helping" my dad build foundations. Nothing was better than watching them pour concrete.

I am by no means a construction expert, but I thought it would be fun to post a few pictures and point out some of the changes going on at Husky Stadium. If you click on the pictures, you should be able to see a higher resolution picture.

I highly recommend you check out the web cams for yourself at http://www.huskystadium.com/ or if you want to jump straight to the web cams http://oxblue.com/pro/open/huskystadium . They really are remarkable, they update every ten minutes or so and you can go back and look at any picture from any date and time. The have a great zoom feature and I highly recommend the overlay mode.

Camera 1: The Before Picture, taken Wednesday November 9th. You can see them taking out the playing surface (suppose to be reused on campus) and you can see the piles of bleachers on the upper west endzone sections.

UW Dawg Pound PAC12 PICK 'EM RESULTS - WEEK 11

Wow, what an unpredictable season. I'm not sure what stinks worse, the Huskies against ranked teams or our picks! One of these weeks I'm going to have to compare last seasons stats versus this season. I'm almost positive that as a group, we aren't doing as well as we did last season, but I'm very content blaming it on the highly unpredictable season. This week is going to be a quick edition (in case I end up back at work).

Congrats to kirkd, Gekko Mojo and sdfan21, all three went 4-2 straight up on another unpredictable week.

Congrats to kirkd who did the impossible and went an amazing 5-1 against the spread when the majority of the group didn't even go 3-3.

Gekko Mojo now sits a top the Straight Up standing (kirkd is still on his heels), B Money had a rough week and slip down a few spots.

We have a new leader Against the Spread! Congrats to kirkd who's 5-1, combined with a rough week from CAHusky , vaulted him into the lead! Is this guy ever wrong????

UW Dawg Pound Reviewing The Coaching Staff - As viewed from 45,000'

We've been doing a lot of talking about our coaching staff lately. Even though this would probably be better suited after the Apple Cup, I thought it would be interesting to see what fans think of each member of our coaching staff.

Sark has done a great job getting the program headed in the right direction, the question is can this exact staff get us to an elite level in all phases of the game? I know that Sark has played up the fact that we have had the exact same staff all three years, but there comes a time when you must evaluate if the job is getting done or not.

The simple truth is that Sark didn't have a lot of coaching contacts when he was hired at UW. He was a first time head coach, hiring his first ever coaching staff. It would be blind luck if he managed to get a perfect staff his first time around, at a school that had just gone 0-12. It's not a knock on Sark, but I think after three years it's time to reassess the staff and see where improvements can be made. Coaching jobs at the UW, under Sark, are far more attractive than they were three years ago.

There is only one reason I'm taking the time to write this up, I want to open up discussion among our faithful readers and see what YOU think about the staff. Here's what I think, I'm looking forward to hearing what the Husky faithful think, so have at it!

UW Dawg Pound PAC12 PICK 'EM RESULTS - WEEK 10

Another unpredictable week in the books. This year has definitely been harder to pick than last year, I should really compare the numbers from last year, could make a good fan post.

WEEK 10 RESULTS - STRAIGHT UP: Congrats to Randall Floyd, Johnny Cougar, Spencer Peaty and Kirkd, all went a very strong 5-1 on a very unpredictable week. I think only two people picked UCLA to upset ASU.

WEEK 10 RESULTS - AGAINST THE SPREAD: Congrats to prrbrr and sdfan21, both went 4-2 against Vegas on a very difficult week. What does it tell you when 3-3 is a very respectable score?

WEEK 10 STANDINGS - STRAIGHT UP: B Money continues his run on top, followed by Gekko Mojo and Kirkd (who happened to pick up a game on Gekko). The middle of the pack is pretty tightly grouped, last week I was near the bottom, this week I'm near the middle. One game can make a pretty big difference!

WEEK 10 STANDINGS - AGAINST THE SPREAD: Our defending Champ, CAHusky, is still on top and has a two game lead over 206Dawgs and SeaHuskies.

WEEK 10 NOTES - I'm running out of room on my computer screen! We've had quite a turn out this year, so much so that my screen capture method is running into a minor issue, too many people! In order to make my current method work, I've left a few people off the standings, if you haven't made a lot of picks AND you don't make picks on the current week, I'll have to leave you off the standings. Each week you DO make picks, I'll make sure you're numbers are listed on the standings.

GO DAWGS!!!

UW Dawg Pound PAC12 PICK 'EM RESULTS - WEEK 9

Another week in the books, and another week of slipping down the standings for a certain pilot, I still get to blame Holt for my bad picks!

WEEK 9 RESULTS - STRAIGHT UP:  Not much variety here, many people went 5-1, everybody else went 4-2. Only one wise person picked UCLA to win (prrbrr), unfortunately he also picked Oregon State to win, no perfect scores this week.

WEEK 9 RESULTS - AGAINST THE SPREAD: More variety, but too many people to list went 4-2. After that, the results were well mixed.

WEEK 9 STANDINGS - STRAIGHT UP: Another week on top for our favorite degenerate gambler B Money. Gekko Mojo is just barely trailing him, but kirkd won't be happy to know he lost a game on Gekko this week.

WEEK 9 STANDINGS - AGAINST THE SPREAD: CAHusky is holding his usual spot on top of the charts, followed by 206Dawgs and SeaHuskies has quietly moved his way up to third place.

WEEK 9 TRENDS: We have CHEATERS among us!!! First our fearless leader John Berkowitz had the perfect prediction that ASU would beat Colorado 48-14. Then Randall Floyd and CAHusky both picked the UW score perfectly at 42-31. Anybody caught time traveling during this contest will be expelled from the contest and forever banished from the UW Dawg Pound. (Hey guys, can I borrow the DeLorean this week???)

FULL DISCLOSURE: Per the "rules", picks must be in before kickoff to count. This week B Money and JoeinFW made their picks at 12:15 and 12:20, slightly after kickoff of the Oregon, WSU game. Both picked Oregon to win and cover. Seen as how EVERYBODY picked Oregon to win and they both lost against the spread, I thought it was fair to let their picks count. My philosophy is to let the "players" play and not let officiating determine a game. A theme I'm sure we all agree with this week. If you'd like to protest this decision, speak now or forever hold your peace!

UW Dawg Pound PAC12 PICK 'EM RESULTS - WEEK 8

I finally got time to tally the results for week 8. Sorry for the delay, but it really is Nick Holt's fault!!! If I wasn't so busy debating the defense, I might have actually got these out yesterday. I'm not sure which is worse this season, the UW defense, or my picks! Even Crazi is ahead of me in the straight up category. I am seriously considering firing myself and Nick Holt at the end of the season!!!

WEEK 8 RESULTS - STRAIGHT UP: Congrats to JoeinFW, he went an almost perfect 5-0, too bad he missed the Thursday night game. Also, congrats to B Money and prrbrr, both went a remarkable 5-1 during a very unpredictable week.

WEEK 8 RESULTS - AGAINST THE SPREAD: Rough week, Vegas is catching up. Congrats to Monte M. Gallacher for going an almost perfect 5-0, he also missed the Thursday game. Congrats to hairofthedawg, who went an outstanding 5-1 against the spread on a very tough week.

WEEK 8 STANDINGS - STRAIGHT UP: We have a new leader! Congrats to our favorite degenerate gambler B Money, all that gambling experience is paying off. In other news, the world is coming to an end: Sark might have lost his Mojo, but Gekko Mojo has plenty of it, he has overtaken kirkd for second place.

WEEK 8 STANDINGS - AGAINST THE SPREAD: I must have given 206Dawgs to much praise last week, after a rough week he finds himself in third place. Congrats to our new (but very familiar) leader CAHusky who has retaken his spot at the top of the standings. Watch out CAHusky, I'm not far behind!

WEEK 8 TRENDS: A lot of change in the standings this week, many of the regulars have been hit hard by the unpredictable nature of college footbal. Who would have guessed that Arizona would clown stomp UCLA, OSU would have it's way with WSU and that our defense would be so bad people would dare mention Kent Baer. My best advice: DON'T BET ON COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

Don't forget to wear black on Saturday, I can't wait to see a blackout at Husky Stadium!!! GO DAWGS.
