I have been a Bucs fan since the mid 90s. I love the direction Dominik is steering the team towards. Hoping for a wild card spot this year. Go Bucs!

Meet your newest Buccaneer: Alex Magee

Meet your newest Buccaneer: Alex Magee

Catwalk rules changed just in time for playoffs.

According to ESPN the rules have been changed. Balls that strike the A and B catwalks will now be ruled dead balls. Fair balls that strike the other two catwalks will still be ruled home runs.

Morris says Blount to get more carries, Benn to take some of Stroughter's snaps.

Bucs Beat at TBO bring us this article, in which Raheem Morris is quoted as saying that Cadillac will be spelled more often and Stroughter may be more suitable as a slot receiver in the third down packages. From this interview it appears Arrelious Benn will see significant time as the #2 vs. Cincinnatti after the bye.

Despite the disheartening loss to Pittsburgh, could the Buccaneers still compete for wild card. This writer thinks it's a possibility.

Buccaneers pick up 5th year option on Freeman's contract

The Pewter Report is reporting that Tampa Bay has picked up the 5th year option for quarterback Josh Freeman. If the option had not been picked up, Freeman would have been a free agent after just his fourth year. This also means that Freeman will receive a little more guaranteed money on his five year, $36M contract. As we all know, a player can be cut at any time in the NFL but it's nice to see that the front office has a lot of faith in our young QB. The article goes on to state that while many players on vacation, Freeman has been a fixture at One Buc Place. All we can do at this point is hope and pray that the vote of confidence and all the work Freeman has put in during the offseason translates into success on the field.

Buccaneers amongst teams interested in BYU running back Harvey Unga

This link to a nice article in the Salt Lake Tribune points out that the Buccaneers appeared to be one of the more interested teams at the pro day of BYU running back Harvey Unga. Unga will be entering the supplemental draft on July 15th. If the Buccaneers chose to take Unga in the 3rd or 4th round they would lose that respective pick in next years draft. Unga is 6'1, 245 lb bruiser with decent quickness and speed. He ran a 4.63 40 and benched 225 lbs 19 times at his pro day. Unga has been a beast for the Cougars, amassing over 1,000 yards and at least 11 rushing TD's in each of the past three seasons. What do you think Buc 'Em? Is this guy worth a shot?

Can Derrick Ward be relevant to the Buccaneers' offense in 2010?

Throughout this offseason I have heard many people discuss Josh Freeman. I have heard quite a few discuss the future of Cadillac Williams, but I haven't heard too many discuss the future of D...

Dominik publicly states that Donald Penn has not been re-signed because of weight issues.

This has caused a bit of a stir in the local blogosphere. The audio was recorded at a Q&A session with season ticket holders and initially reported on joebucsfan.com. Pro Football Talk then picked up the story and ran with it, which you can view by clicking the title of this fanshot. The article on Joe Bucs Fan has since been removed because the Bucs new PR guy Jonathon Grella contacted the site and stated the audio was recorded at the Q&A session was meant to be "off the record". Huh? A public Q&A session is off the record? That's news to me. Obviously this little hiccup by Dominik could have some serious repercussions in the ongoing discussions with Penn and his agent.

Winslow is missing OTAs due to 5th surgery on his right knee.

For the 2nd time in two days we learn that one of our favorite Buccaneers is missing OTAs due to knee surgery. Winslow is apparently having his knee scoped, which is just a cool way of saying that his scar tissue is being removed. This is Winslow's fifth knee surgery on his right knee in the past six years. Although it is indeed a minor surgery, it is still something to be concerned about. Winslow is entering into the second year of his lucrative six year deal, which ensures him a guaranteed $20M. Let's hope he recovers from the surgery nicely and shows up on the field in 2010 in the same way he did last season. Thanks to the guys at Pewter Report for digging this information up and making us aware of the situation, and a special thanks to rjblitz02 aka "The News Breaker" for being the first to bring this info to Buc 'Em. Get well soon Kellen.

Peter King might be on crack.

Peter King, the man who projected the Chicago Bears to win the Super Bowl last year has come up with his 2010 preseason ranking of the teams. The Buccaneers rank #30 on the list, ahead of Buffalo and St. Louis. So, who is the top team in the land according to King? None other than the Green Bay Packers. Other surprises: Carolina and Seattle make the playoffs, and he has Miami winning the AFC East. Hmmm? If you're reading this Sports Illustrated please feel free to email me for my resume and a list of references, because clearly, your Monday Morning Quarterback has lost what few marbles he had remaining.

Buccaneers and Doug Williams part ways.

The Pewter Report is reporting that Tampa and Williams have mutually decided to part ways. The former Tampa Bay quarterback had been with the team six years as the Director of Pro Personnel. The Buccaneers have also parted with ways with college area scout Frank Dorazio. More to come on this later. Stay tuned.
