Finally, we can rejoice! The Texans cut RB Ahman Green and OLB Morlon Greenwood today...

I think we all saw these moves coming. Some may be surprised to see Travis Johnson and Anthony Weaver still on the team. It doesn't surprise me though, because maybe those guys can contribute now that they won't be playing in a read and react scheme.

Leigh Bodden Released

According to Rotoworld.com, the Lions released Leigh Bodden today.

Bodden is only 27 years old and didn't play well in Detroit. However, apparently he's more of a press coverage corner, and Detroit was running a Tampa 2 scheme (or at least I think they were, considering Marinelli was the head coach) that doesn't play to his strengths.

Do you think he could be a free agent target for us? If Dunta Robinson doesn't get signed, I think he would be. And I also think he'd be a decent fit here for a nice midlevel contract similar to Reeves'.

What say you?

2009 Expectations

2009 will be Kubiak's fourth season under the Texans. So far every season he's been "on schedule", up until this year, some can argue. What do you expect from 2009?

By "on schedule", I mean the "schedule" that Rick Smith and Gary Kubiak have set for this team. 2006 was transitioning into "his" team, and trying to instill a winning attitude. He did that, overhauling an extremely underwhelming roster and improving from 2-14 to 6-10. 2007 continued the roster overhaul, with the goal to play meaningful games in December. He did that, highlighted by bringing in Matt Schaub and going 8-8. The expectations for 2008 however, were to contend for a playoff spot.

Many things were to blame for this seasons shortcomings--hurricane Ike, a brutal schedule, that drunk driving bastard Jared Allen, Richie Smith's pathetic excuse for a defense, the Rosencopter, and turnovers. But the team, while finishing 8-8, looked like they took a step forward on offense. Bottom line, however, is that the Texans barely contended for a playoff spot and ultimately came up just a bit short.

So what do you expect for 2009? Would you be upset if we finish 8-8 again but make the playoffs? How about 10-6 but just miss out due to our competitive division? More importantly, perhaps, is this question: What justifies Kubiak keeping his job for 2010? Playoffs? Or an improved record? Or simply improved play, regardless of record or January games?

Fire Richard Smith Watch

With the 2008 season in the books, how long will it be before Richard Smith gets the axe? Will we hear word today? Later this week? Or will McNair drag this out and wait until all respectable DC candidates are taken?

For that matter, are we even sure that Smith will get fired? I think McNair realizes that he needs to at least heavily consider it. But what about Kubes? Will he be loyal to Smith? Or will he realize he HAS to go?

What say you, BRB?

Steve McKinney Gets Released!

An Open Invitation

Hello fellow BRBers! I'm here to extend an open invitation (or maybe this is more like an open forum?) to all of you in the Houston area (or willing to travel). How about we all meet up at a fine establishment such as Hooters or Buffalo Wild Wings and have some wings and beer. I figure that most of us here at least have two things in common: the Texans, and humorous ramblings. We could discuss the Texans humorously! Also, it seems liek most of us are drinkers. So, who's with me?

Tony Romo to Marry Jessica Simpson!

According to this blog on Yahoo anyway. Check it out:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/nfl_experts/post/Tony-Romo-to-make-an-honest-woman-out-of-Jessica?u rn=nfl,67926
I immediately thought of two things:

Somewhere, Terrell Owens is crying...

Are they going to have their own reality show too?

A Thought About Eric Winston

You know, it just occurred to me that Eric Winston suffered an ACL injury his junior year at Miami. Now I've said all along that if the coaching staff thought Winston could play left tackle, they would have stuck him there. But now that it appears almost certain that Charles Spencer will never play left tackle for us again, do you think Winston could get a shot? He's a few years removed from his injury, and before the injury he was heralded as a very athletic lineman. Perhaps now that he's had two seasons to adjust to the speed of the NFL, rehab his knee, and get into even better shape, he'd be capable of anchoring down the left tackle position. Thoughts?
