I have been a Fin Fan since I was about 10 yrs old. I was born and raised in south FLA. As a boy, I met and played ball with many of the '72 Fins, as part of the Big Bros organization. I have almost all of that squad's autographs on my old Dolphins hat.

Report: Fins trying to sign Smith for $8M/yr
The Dolphins are so desperate, after losing out on Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn, that they're now willing to significantly overpay a borderline NFL starter at near the level of franchise quarterback money. Flynn only got $6.33M annually from the Seahawks. Smith isn't as physically talented as incumbent Dolphins starter Matt Moore, and he's certainly not worth more than Flynn. At this point, it's almost as if the Fins are trying to sign a quarterback, just to sign a quarterback.
Are the 2011 Miami Dolphins in Danger of Repeating 2007?
The 2007 Season was miserable for the Miami Dolphins and their fans. The team finished 1-15 that year, waiting until Week 15 to pull off that first - and only - win, when wide receiver Greg Camarillo raced down the field to take a Cleo Lemon pass 64-yards to beat the Baltimore Ravens in overtime.
Now, the comparisons are starting between that team and this year's Miami Dolphins squad.
The 2007 edition of the Dolphins started the year with veteran quarterback Trent Green under center. Green held the spot until the Week 5 matchup against the Houston Texans, when he was knocked unconscious and out for the remainder of the year. Backup Cleo Lemon was then brought in to start the next five games, before giving way to rookie John Beck. Beck lost the next four games, before Lemon was brought back in as the starter for the final three weeks.

Dolphins fear separated shoulder could threaten Henne's season
The team is currently concerned about a separation of Henne's non-throwing shoulder, and the Dolphins are awaiting word of a second opinion Tuesday that could dictate Henne's availability for the rest of the season, a Dolphins source said.
Miami Dolphins at San Diego Chargers: Impressions from the Field
Well fellow Fin Fans, I don't get a chance to go to too many Miami Dolphins games, being way out here on the Left Coast, so whenever they come to San Diego you can count on me being there. So I was at the game today, sitting right behind the Miami Dolphins bench, so I had a pretty good view of the game - and also of the things you can't see on television, like the players reactions, coaches behavior, etc.
Two big, general, overall impressions, before I get into some specifics:
The Dolphins can not pressure an opposing quarterback.
They can't do it! This is the SINGLE BIGGEST problem with the Dolphins D! In today's passing league, you either need a pair of "lockdown" corners who can hold their coverage for longer than 6 seconds, or you need some way to hurry the opposing quarterback to create mistakes or force shorter routes/receptions. Oh, and by the way... the Dolphins do NOT have a pair of "lockdown" CBs.
On Offense, the Miami Dolphins look out of sync.
The Offensive Line is... well... offensive, mostly... at least on the right side. Mike Pouncey is playing well, and should get better, but I watched Vernon Carey whiff on a block that led to a sack at a critical time in the fourth quarter. It might have been a miscommunication, but isn't Tony Sparano supposed to be the O-line wizard? And the last interception thrown by Matt Moore at the end of the game looked like a miscommunication between him and Anthony Fasano. And oh yeah... wasn't Henne injured on a botched handoff? Sloppy. That's a better description than "out of sync". Overall, the whole thing looked sloppy.

Miami Dolphins at Cleveland Browns - The Story Of Yet Another Loss
They say it's a game of inches.
But it is also a game of moments.
The Miami Dolphins had every chance to win this game. And in a few particular moments, they lost it.
For example:
- Dan Carpenter NOT missing the first 51 yard Field Goal attempt - Would have won the game.
- The Dolphins Offense red zone failure (once again) - Down to the Cleveland 5 yard line and coming away with 3 points. A touchdown would have won the game.
- Reggie Bush NOT fumbling on the Cleveland 19 on what would have been a 3rd and 5, and certainly a 3 point FG (even with Dan Carpenter's limited range) would have won the game.
- Davone Bess NOT running backwards on 3rd and long, when he HAD THE FIRST DOWN! - would have kept that drive alive.
- Jason Taylor NOT jumping offsides on 3rd and 10 at the Miami 27, on what would have been an incomplete pass bringing up 4th and 10. This certainly helped to LOSE the game.
- Connecting on ANY of those last drive passes, getting the Dolphins within Carpenter's limited Field Goal range, might have won the game
There were some good individual performances in this game, but the overall appearance of a team that is just not fighting for the win is overshadowing even the few bright spots....

Houston Texans at Miami Dolphins - Difficult Loss To Digest
This sucked. Big time.
A loss is always disheartening - somewhat. Starting a season 0-2 is WITH BOTH LOSSES AT HOME is almost a "reach for the Prozac and a shot of J.D." kind of depressing.
HOWEVER, it is not yet time to throw in the towel.
I am not going to get all Pollyanna on you and tell you that roses are growing where the sun don't shine - seriously, how many teams start 0-2 and make the playoffs? Not many.
But, even so, a team is as good as their record and the season is far from over. The Fins could still conceivably finish out the season at 10-6, and that might be good enough for a wildcard spot, so let's not over analyze the record at this point.
Here is the point - even though they lost, there was *some* progress... but there was a lot that needs to be fixed also.
Last time, I tried to be positive and tried to address the good stuff first - but I'm just not in the mood to look optimistically at the Miami Dulphins at the moment - as the Japanese chef said to the lawyer - "Sosumi".
Let's talk about the stuff that pisses me off first:
#1 - COACHING!!!!
huh? What? Coaching? But I like Tony Sparano! We are peas in a pod! I mean, he seems like such a nice guy, and after all - he wears his sunglasses at night; in the day time, in a dome, in the shower, and (so I have heard, but this is not confirmed) in bed!

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins - What We Learned
Well, as a Dolphins fan, I must admit that the result of this game was a bit disappointing. But even though the Fins lost, there were some very positive notes to take away from this game.
First, let's look at some of the positives:
Chad Henne played extremely well!
DolFans, this is HUGE! The biggest offseason question facing the team was whether they could find a way to raise the level of quarterback play from that of last season. As most of you know, the team looked at several options for upgrading the position and for reasons we will not rehash in this column, the team decided to stand pat with Chad Henne as the signal caller.
Last season, Henne looked good at times, but was very inconsistent in his decision making and accuracy, leading to some games lost in the last minutes that might have been winnable with better play in the 4th quarter. He also did not seem to have any kind of chemistry with Brandon Marshall, who was easily the most potentially dangerous offensive weapon on the team. Too many times, Henne was quick to check down to his outlet receiver and too few times did he connect on a play that Tony Sparano would term a "chunk yard" play.
Well folks, Monday night Henne showed us what he is capable of producing: 61% completion percentage, 416 yards through the air and another 59 on the ground, 2 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown - and this from a guy that almost everyone considered very likely to lose in a foot race with an elm tree. And though I have not been the biggest Henne groupie, even I will give him a pass on the last minute interception that wasn't much more than a "hail mary" toss-up made with 6 seconds left when the game was already decided.
Henne also appeared to have much more authority to change calls at the line than last season, when he appeared to be on a short leash. He seemed to handle this well, and overall, the game did not seem too big for him.
If Henne can build on his relationship with Marshall, and continue to get comfortable in Brian Daboll's offensive system, he could very well develop into the quarterback Miami has been looking for since Dan Marino retired.

The Dolphins' Secret Weapon Against Brady - Part Deux
Hello Fin Fans!
I've gotta feeling that tonight's gonna be a good night....
I know I know, but hey... Fergie is a part owner of the team right?
Anyhow, those of you that have been around here for a few years might remember this post. I originally posted it in 2009 just before one of our games against the Patsies. JT had been shipped off to the Redskins the prior season and had rejoined the Dolphins for the 2009 season.
Considering that last year JT was off to the (stinkin') Jets and is now back (again) with the Dolphins, and we are getting ready to open our season against the prima donna Pats, I thought a repost (with minor updates) might be fun! Enjoy!

PFT Week Zero power rankings has Fins at #29
Week Zero power rankings
Posted by Mike Florio on September 6, 2011, 10:51 PM EDT
29. Dolphins: The owner wanted Jim Harbaugh, but settled for Tony Sparano. Sparano wanted Kyle Orton, but settled for Chad Henne. The fans want the Heat, but may have to settle for the Dolphins.
Won't it be fun to laugh at all the naysayers when the Fins show how good they can really be this season? -LCFF
Report: Miami Dolphins re-sign running back Larry Johnson
Veteran running back Larry Johnson, who was surprisingly cut by the Miami Dolphins last week, has rejoined the team, according to NFL Network.
Johnson, once one of the best backs in the NFL during his years with the Kansas City Chiefs, was one of the Dolphins' final cuts made as the team trimmed the roster to 53 players on Saturday. The Dolphins wanted his veteran presence to bolster a thin running back corps, but opted to keep just three tailbacks for the first week of the regular season.
Aaron Rodgers calls Mark Sanchez in GQ "embarrassing"
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was shown a copy of the Sanchez GQ during an interview with ESPN Milwaukee, and he didn’t try to conceal his contempt.
"Look at this," Rodgers said. "That’s embarrassing. Page 94 of the GQ thing here. That’s terrible."
As a Miami fan, you gotta love it anytime someone slams a Jets QB. -LCFF
Channing Crowder decides to hang up cleats
Free agent ILB Channing Crowder reportedly announced his retirement on a Miami radio station Tuesday.
Dolphins First Depth Chart Of The Season: Reggie Bush, Starting RB
Sparano lists Reggie Bush as the starting running back over Daniel Thomas, even though Bush has averaged 8.73 carries per game in his five-year career. And Bush is not listed as a punt returner, either, even though he has five career punt return touchdowns.
Shaun O’Hara visits Dolphins
Longtime Giants center Shaun O’Hara visited the Miami Dolphins Sunday, according to the Miami Herald.
Adding O’Hara would give Miami options with rookie Mike Pouncey, not to mention a great mentor for Pouncey to learn from. Both O’Hara and Pouncey can play guard and center, so the Dolphins would have options for how they would want to use the pair. Pouncey played center at practice Sunday and looks likely to stay there.
UPDATE: via Jeff Darlington Twitter: "Don't be alarmed if/when you hear O'Hara leaves town without a contract in place. He doesn't want to make decision over the phone with wife."
Miami Dolphins place LT Jake Long on PUP list
Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said on Sunday that Pro-Bowl left tackle Jake Long has been placed on the physically unable to perform list while he attempts to recover from a knee injury.
Zach Miller to the Dolphins?
ESPN's John Clayton mentions the Dolphins as a possibility for free agent Zach Miller.
Dolphins retain Tony McDaniel
The Dolphins retained a key part of last year’s defensive line rotation when they agreed to terms on a two-year deal with Tony McDaniel and added a piece to their linebacking corps as well on Wednesday.
Report: Orton trade could go down Wednesday
NFL Network's Michelle Beisner reports trade talks between the Broncos and Dolphins are getting "serious," and a deal could be reached within six hours.
Dolphins now favorites to land RB Bradshaw?
According to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, the Dolphins have emerged as the favorites to land free agent Ahmad Bradshaw.
Hat tip to bbickley
Bills agreed to terms with Tyler Thigpen on a three-year contract.
Thigpen is reunited with Chan Gailey, who coached him to a career season back in 2008 with the Chiefs.
I have a feeling that this will come back to bite us in the @ss.
Players not ready to OK NFL owners' proposed settlement
National Football League (NFL) players took a cautious stance on a collective bargaining agreement approved Thursday by team owners, holding off a vote to sign off until they had more time to read the fine print.
Team owners thought they had found the right formula to end the four-month lockout with their proposal for a 10-year deal, but representatives of the players said they would have to wait at least another day, because the players had not seen the full document yet.
NFL owners vote for tentative deal
NFL owners voted overwhelmingly in favor of a tentative 10-year agreement to end the lockout Thursday, pending player approval.
The vote was 31-0 with the Oakland Raiders abstaining from the ratification, which came after a full day of meetings at an Atlanta-area hotel.
Players still had to sign off on the deal — and they must re-establish their union, the NFL said.
Rosenhaus: Bradshaw interested in Miami
The running back has said he wants to remain a Giant and it would be somewhat surprising if the team doesn't re-sign its top running back. However, like a good agent, Drew Rosenhaus is going to promote his client and try to drive up Bradshaw’s value.

Brandon Marshall: 'My wife did not stab me'
Brandon Marshall told Broward state attorney investigators late last month that his wife did not stab him in a late April domestic violence incident.
Report: NFL CBA should be done by Tuesday
Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports that an agreement in principle on a new NFL Collective Bargaining deal is "likely to be completed" between this Friday and next Tuesday.
Report: Dolphins NT Soliai to hit open market
The Dolphins reportedly have "zero" chance of re-signing NT Paul Soliai before the onset of free agency in March.
Soliai wants to cash in on his breakout second half, which makes it nearly impossible for an extension with the "30 percent" rule in effect. Soliai's camp is expecting a "free-for-all" once he hits the open market. As a run-plugging 350-pounder, he'll be in high demand among teams running 3-4 schemes.
Do you think the Dolphins should pony up big money to keep him?
And the new Miami Dolphins Offensive Coordinator for the 2011 season is... Brian Daboll??
Right. I said the same thing - "WHO???"
I can't say I was jumping up and down with excitement when I read the press release. And judging from the reaction I have seen on this, and other blogs, I would have to say that a large number of Miami Fans seem to be equally unimpressed.
I have also started to see the "glass half full" folks ramping up the spin cycle to try and make this selection out to be a positive thing... it's not. At least not yet.
I don't want to read folks trying to blow sunshine up my... well,..... where it ain't supposed to shine. What I WANT is "just the facts". What I WANT is to understand why this selection was made - what are the perceived advantages to hiring Daboll over any of the other options? Because with people throwing stats around on BOTH sides of the debate, I must say that the "almost as good last season in Cleveland, with less talent" doesn't really do much for me.
So, let's talk about it. Let's discuss some of the reasons, and reasonable expectations that the Miami Dolphins might have for selection of Brian Daboll, man of mystery!
Let's talk about the options.
While everyone is clamoring about who the Dolphins DID select to be the new O-Coord, let's take a second to think about what was available to choose from.

Miami Dolphins: Looking at the season in the rear view mirror
Miami Dolphin fans everywhere are frustrated right now, and that's understandable.
The schizophrenic personality of the team this past season was enough to make any Fin Fan pull his or her hair out in aggravation..., playing tough on the road and going 6-2, and then falling apart on the way to a 1-7 record at home... seeing the Defense finally improve to a top 10 status, while the Offense fell to the bottom of the league... Well, it's almost enough to make you want to root for the bloody Patriots.... almost.
In spite of the problems, this Miami team has actual talent at a number of positions. The question is: Do they have enough talent at enough key positions to win?
Before last season began, I wrote an article (Miami Dolphins: Torn up from the floor up - now rebuilt and ready to go?) about evaluating the talent on this season's Miami Dolphins squad from the perspective of Top Tier Fronts - on both Offense and Defense. The idea comes from Michael Lombardi, who in a series of posts last year (beginning with this one on July 18th about T.O., oddly enough) on NFL.com, proposed this analysis as a way to pick out teams with enough raw talent to make it to the Super Bowl.
Since the season is now over, and we have now seen these players over the course of 16 games, let's take another look at the team talent using this grading system.
Lombardi's evaluation showed that all four conference title game participants from the last few seasons have had this particular thing in common:
"... that the best teams had to have very good offensive and defensive lines. How good? Well, in order to reach the championship game, teams must have at least a total of seven red or blue players among both lines."
But what's a blue or red player? Lombardi defines "blue" and "red" players as:
"A blue player is championship caliber and rates among the top 10 at his position in the league. He is good enough to create mismatches vs. most opponents. He must also be one of the team's featured players and have a direct impact on the outcome of the game.
A red player is one that plays the game with no real weaknesses, is a solid starter and will be able to capitalize on certain opponents, but is never consistently dominant. He might not play as well against the league's very best, but shows up each week and has a high degree of competitiveness, ranking among the top 15 at his position."
A total of SEVEN players, a combination of red and blue quality, among all the linemen of both lines, plus Tight Ends and Linebackers.

Fins appear to be new favorites for Harbaugh
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the 49ers are not willing to compete financially with the Dolphins' contract offer to Jim Harbaugh.
Schefter cautions that San Francisco is not totally out of the hunt, but the Fins' offer is believed to be in the $7-8 million range. SI's Peter King calls that number "insane," and it would make Harbaugh the richest head coach in the NFL. The Niners are reportedly "ready to move on" if Harbaugh follows the cash. As of late Wednesday, Stephen Ross' Dolphins appeared to have emerged as the favorites to land the soon-to-be-former Stanford coach.
