Lost relative of Melvin Ingram found! Digging for more details!
Sorry for the somewhat-alarming headline.
AJ's ego says something without, you know, actually saying anything
"So Smith is basically saying to Jackson and his agents, 'I got Meachem for four years for less than what the Bucs paid you for two.'"
"WR" Kassim Osgood released by Jaguars
per PFT, per Jay Glazer.
Philip Rivers noticeably missing from "most disliked players" list
I am a little surprised not to see him here, and not even in the top 6 most disliked QBs. The Eagles alone have two of those on here.
Summing up, the top 10 were (from 1-10):
Vick
Burress
Roethlisberger
Haynesworth
Cutler
Ochocinco
Vince Young
Carson Palmer
Romo
Shockey
Ashley Fox (ESPN) article on the soft Chargers
Coupled with her abnormally low power rankings to start the season, it feels like she's been just salivating over when she'd get a chance to write this during the season. Not that she's wrong.
Happy Halloween!
Ryan Leaf undergoing radiation for brain tumor
Gotta wish him well.

NFL Films: 2010 San Diego Chargers Yearbook
These seem to be getting harder each year to find in advance, but the premiere of the 30-minute rose-colored review of your 2010 Bolts will air tomorrow night on ESPN2 at 10 p.m. PT. So stay up after the preseason game to look back on last year!
Week One Lines Released
Chargers are the heaviest favorites on the board for week one, at -9.5 over the Vikings.
PFT Team Checklist: Chargers
Here you can read the semi-informed national perspective on the current state of the Chargers (lots of obligatory "Fire Norv Turner" comments).
NFL Players in Trouble for Porn Event Promo
I use "in trouble" loosely there. But, there's a familiar rookie's name as a throw-in closer to the end of the post, with the tiniest implication that he's part of the "Miami party scene."
Nnamdi Asomugha a sudden free agent
A contract clause slipped by all the lawyers and results in Asomugha heading to free agency.
Rivers as Marino
A woman I've never heard of writes another ESPN article about Philip Rivers, this one oh-so-originally comparing him to Dan Marino. Quick googling tells me she's a NY-based writer, focused almost entirely on NY sports and tennis.
Chargers new #1 in Vegas Power Rankings
I tend to put a lot of value in these rankings. From this week's release, you can expect the Chargers to be touchdown-or-better favorites in all their remaining regular season games barring injury.
Patrick Crayton will talk
A little off-topic, but I'm looking forward to hearing what Norv Turner is "really like" in a year or two. I'm counting on Crayton to eventually provide that.
Vegas still thinks the team is pretty good
These rankings are one way that NFL lines are set. Currently the 7th-ranked AFC team and 10th overall. Would make SD ~5.5 pt favorites at home against KC and 3 pt favorites against NE (which they are).
Ideas for fixing the "ice the kicker" situation?
The debate on "kicker-icing" seems to be reignited, and most people seem to think it's an awkward and undesirable situation at best but there also seems to be no consensus on how to fix it. Here's mine, but I'm not beholden to it and want to hear alternatives and critiques. Let's come up with a BFTB consensus and submit it to the competition committee, who will be sure to listen to it.
On kick attempts (any play where the kicker is on the field and players are aligned in kick formation), the field judge or side judge (whichever one it is that's along the opposing team's sideline) will provide a hand signal with 5 seconds left on the play clock. After that signal is provided, a timeout by the opposing team results in a 5-yard penalty. To me, this eliminates the "icing" timeout by allowing the kicking team to just wait until the 5-second mark to snap and kick, but also allows the opposing team to take essentially any other legitimate timeout needed or incur a penalty for the late timeout that I'm trying to eliminate. Option B for me would be no penalty, but a strict 5-second moratorium on timeouts.
Is it too simple? Am I missing something? Who loves/hates/doesn't care about the whole thing?
Donald Butler
Official game book from the Bears game has Butler listed in the "did not play" category, meaning he was active-rostered for the game. Almost certainly just a quirk/oversight, but strange nonetheless.
Boltman for sale
opening bid is $75K to become the new Boltman
Dumervil back for at least one game against Chargers?
Reports that Dumervil (who always was reported as out for most of the season) will not go to IR and likely will be back for at least the week 17 game against the Bolts. He's aiming for an early December return, with a remote shot at coming back sooner. The Chargers and Broncos play their first game together on November 22nd.
PFT blames personnel issues for looming blackout
From his oft-repeated position against the Chargers' front office, Florio laughably contends that the contract situations with McNeill, Jackson, and Merriman are to blame for the (as yet) unsold preseason tickets.
NFL Films: 2009 Chargers Yearbook
The annual rose-colored edition of the year in review will premiere on ESPN2 on August 18th at 6:30 p.m. PT.
Contracts status tidbit in Mortensen's camp schedule?
In a throwaway line in his camp tour preview, Mortensen says "[c]hances are the contracts [Jackson/McNeill] will be smoothed over..."
Does he know something, or does he know absolutely nothing?
Another division title for the Bolts
This time, it's in the kitchen.
LaDainian Tomlinson's child born
Lost in all the hoopla of him leaving, I had forgotten that LT and his wife were expecting. Congrats to the new parents; very good to see LaTorsha and Daylen healthy. Rumor is a boy, but I haven't seen reliable confirmation yet.
