I was born and raised in Michigan, but moved out to Utah to get my Ph.D in Biochemistry. I am now the head scientist for a Biotech company in Salt Lake City, Utah - but am still (and always will be) a die-hard Lions fan. I also have inflicted my love for the Lions on my 4 year old son, who loves his Stafford jersey.

In case any of us needed another reason to mock Mark Sanchez, you absolutely have to check out this play from today:
There is no way he lives this down for a good long time. You can guarantee that this would never happen to Stafford (or any other real football player for that matter). A major flinch and then a penalty - No other play could ever sum up this idiot.
Go Lions, and fuck Mark Sanchez . . .

Roy Williams cut from Dallas?
I just saw this scroll by while on POD:
http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2011/7/26/2295354/cowboys-to-cut-roy-williams
Wow, we knew that Dallas got Mayhewed, but given what they had invested I am surprised that he is out already. Not exactly happy about this, but not crushed either. Does this officially make him a bust?
I really have nothing else to say, but I need more words - so to be as cliche as possible:
GO LIONS, GO LIONS, GO LIONS, GO LIONS, GO LIONS
Louis Delmas named a top safety
In yet another example of the Lions receiving some love from the national media, Pat Kirwan (my least favorite writer at NFL.com) has listed the top 30 safeties in the league. Happily Louis Delmas is in the top 5.
Am I the only one that feels odd everytime one of the Lions players is mentioned. It feels like I used to have to scour the web for mention of the Lions, and now they are everywhere (and it is almost all positive). This must be what it is like to be a Patriots fan for the past decade or so . . .
Barry Sanders at the Draft
NFL.com has announced that several retired players will be announcing the picks for their former team - in fact the entire 2nd round will be announced by former players (some teams that don't have a second round pick will be announced by a former player in the third round). The Lion's representative is Barry Sanders. Is it sad that I am more excited about watching Barry announce the pick than I am about who the pick will be? I hope that they spend the minutes between picks showing highlight film of the guy who is about to announce . . .
Barry in top 10 picks of all time
No surprise to anyone here, but Barry Sanders made it to the top 10 list of the top75 draft picks on NFL.com:
http://www.nfl.com/draft/story?id=09000d5d817b3d66&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true
This helps balance out that Charles Rogers made the top 10 draft busts of all time on a recent NFL network top 10.
Apparently I need more words, so I will just wish everyone a great draft and hope that we can get another player or two that will eventually make a top draft list . . .
Stallworth
Has anyone heard anything about Donte Stallworth and his workout? Did he, in fact, work out for the Lions staff (the last I heard it was unconfirmed)? Do we know anything about how it went? I am sure if he had left with a contract we would have heard, but we heard when Pacman Jones left Cincy without a contract so I have been surprised to have heard absolutely nothing about this Sean's post on the 11th.
Concern
There have been a number of posts making the case for Berry rather than Suh as our top pick. GRLion went a long way in his recent response to Nate D.'s Pholosophy of the Draft post to bringing me around to this point of view - that you need to have special players rather than just talented players.
Here is my concern - is it possible to have conflicts when you have two special players in the same position on a team. If Delmas is turning into the heart of the defense (the QB of the secondary), is there a chance that we would see a drop off or conflict if we also had Berry back there. Would they compliment each other, or both be trying to be in charge?
Would this be similar to us drafting another QB in the first round and not expecting that to affect Stafford? Can you have two #1 WR or do you need a clear #1, #2, and slot. I know there have been other Pro-bowl tandems at Safety, but were they both outspoken leaders or was one more of a quiet guy who just got the job done.
I am not trying to posit that this would be a problem, but simply trying to ask the question. As much as I love the Lions, I am afraid I am not as knowledgeable about famous safety tandems on other teams. Nor am I much of an expert about Eric Berry - is he as outspoken as Delmas, or just quietly the best guy on the field?
I look forward to your comments and debate. Thanks.
