Pride Of Detroit The Jerome Harrison lottery ticket

Yahoo sports reports Jerome Harrison to be on of their "lottery tickets of 2011" thanks to the "concussion" suffered from Jahvid Best last week. Here is the link: linky

My take on the situation is we haven't seen much of the run game the past few weeks, primarilly from Harrison and Bell. I firmly believe that Harrison will be the no.2 or 3 depending on how Maurice Morris and Aaron Brown do the next few weeks. I do not think Bell has much chance to make the team. It is also hard to get a good read on Harrison because he hasn't had much time to gel with the O-line. He should have some good touches this weekend against NE and hopefully show us a bit more of that moxy that netted him the single game rushing record for the Browns

Pride Of Detroit Colt McCoy and the hype?

What was with all the hype he was getting? He had a decent drive (short field) against our first teamers but every other TD was against our backups and third/fourth string guys. I really think he is doing well this preseason but was pretty pissed off when I turned on the late ESPN highlight broadcast to see all McCoy and no lions highlights. I wanted to see the comeback because my friends DVR didn't tape the whole game. All they could do was praise McCoy and his tutelage under Brett Favre

Pride Of Detroit Lets not make ourselves look like IDIOTS

Now that the dust has cleared, we will see a flood of posts about how Kevin Smith should be cut...oh wait that was two weeks ago. Back to the present, we are all civilized folks in here. Yes, the call was horrible. Will we get the win back? No.

So here are some things I think make our fans look dumb (to others looking in):

1) Going to the Bears SBNation site and cursing out fans.

2) Sending letters that make no sense to Goddell. First of all, he probably won't read the good ones anyway.

3) Calling the NFL offices with ranting. That Youtube video was bad enough.

4) Saying fire him and fire that dude who holds the water and such

5) Posting posts that make absolutely NO SENSE.

Lets just show our true spirits and dust our shoulders off and move on.  Nothing we can do about it now. But, lets remember that WE ARE THE BEST FANS IN THE WORLD, and no matter what anyone does we will be on POD next week routing our guys on. Lets be classy. Show the league we are for real. Not real idiots.

Pride Of Detroit Tony Ugoh anyone?

Colts release former second round pick Tony Ugoh. According to sources, Ugoh just didn't play very well in the preseason.

When camp opened this summer, the Colts had hoped Ugoh would win the starting job at left guard.

He barely got a chance. Johnson sprained his right foot the first week of training camp, forcing the Colts to put Ugoh back in his old spot. Ugoh spent the rest of the preseason at left tackle.

When Johnson returned to practice Wednesday, the first time he’d worked out with his teammates since Aug. 6, the Colts wasted little time in parting ways with the 6-foot-5, 301-pound Arkansas Alum.

Pride Of Detroit Tiki Barber says 9 wins for the Lions next year

Fun stuff coming from Yahoo. Apparently someone other than us Lions fans is drinking the blue kool-aid!

Check out the video on the NFL homepage from Yahoo. Personally, I would love to agree but feel that this team needs more than just what we have (although it is a good start) to contend in this league. In 2012? Maybe. But, who knows we all need optimism in this life, but us Lions fans know that optimism from year to year is just a buzzword to disappointment. I hope I am wrong but I say 5-6 wins is a healthy goal for this team. What do you say?

I know it has been asked before but what do you think we can expect in terms of wins this year?

Pride Of Detroit Players who I would like to see in Lions blue next year...

Now that the initial buzz of Free Agency has died down, here are a few names who I would like to see sign in Detroit. None of them probably will but still fun to speculate. Looking at the Top 100 FA listed by Yahoo these are some of the guys ranked by lowest first.

K-Neil Rackers 94 out of 100

Age:34

Are we ever going to look for a replacement for Hanson? Rackers is good at times and chokes bad other times.

Has a great leg and can play.

RB- Willie Parker 87 out of 100

Age:29

Can help out running back situation here. Not a #1 back anymore but still can run and can help as a mentor.

OLB-Keith Bulluck 49 out of 100

Age:33

Ties with Schwartz, older but I would take him. Anyone will help us and adding veteran leaders are the way you develop young players like Sims and Levy.

CB-Richard Marshall 46 out of 100

Age:25

No more Robinson=panic for fans. We have NO starting corners right now. Even if we drafted one, that still leaves a big void on the other side.

S- Ryan Clark 45 out of 100

Age:30

We need a Safety, Clark is a safety. Seems easy enough.

S-Darren Sharper 33 out of 100

Age:34

He wont come cheap. But how awesome would it be for him to mentor Delmas.

Of course we already signed these players...

wr-Burleson 71

DE- KVdB 34

Now we wont get all of them but if you could have one or two who would you take? I want Sharper and Marshall personally.

Pride Of Detroit Lions should learn from Pistons mistakes....

Hindsight would be a great thing when discussing potential Free agents this offseason in the NFL.  The Lions can gain some great knowledge from their friends in Auburn Hills. We all know the Piston's made a big and quick "splash" in the FA market and spent  ALOT of money on players who were not really starting material.

The Lions need to take a hard look at these players and make sound decisions WITHOUT spending lots and lots of money. As easy as it would be to spend 12-15 million a year on Julius Peppers, they should go for lots of mid-range players with potential and make some smart trades. Really, the Lions should look at what Joe D did in 2003 with his roster. I remember looking at the guys we got and saying, "Who is that?" and "Really?" . Maybe thats what we will see from the Lions. OR they will burn a bunch of money and it might work or it might not work.

What do you think? Spend lots of money and bring in one or two guys who could work or could be busts OR sign some Mid level starters who we can develop. I know we are all frustrated with the Lions not being good for so long, but we all have to consider how BAD the Pistons are and what made them that way.

Poll
What should the Lions do this offseason in regards to the Free Agent class?
Sign big names so we can make this team good NOW

Spend wisely go after guys who we can develop

Wait until the draft and then fill spots

Pride Of Detroit Terrell Owens released...what do you think?

With Detroit needing an upgrade at the # 2 and TO being released without a flinch from Buffalo, what do you think about him becoming a Lion even for one year. He has serious issues as everyone knows but can catch the ball. Him opposite to Calvin is a scary thought, but one that is most likely a pipe dream. Anyway, with nothing to talk about except Offensive lineman running the 40, this should be an interesting discussion for sure. So, TO or no TO?

Poll
T.O. or no T.O?
no, no, no we don't need another attitude probelm in Detroit.

yes, he could add a very viable option opposite to Calvin

Pride Of Detroit Remember what was said last year....

Hello,

This is my first post at POD. I have been a long time viewer and check the site multiple times during the week. I have been a fan for my whole life and have suffered with everyone through years of mediocrity of this franchise. But, one thing I want to just put out there is going back to this time last year the conversations that were taking place regarding the QB position.

I remember reading a lot of ESPN and other analysts opinions on the Lions waiting on taking a QB and taking one in this year's draft. I remember such comments as, "Why take a QB now when next year's class is SOOO deep". Now, zooming to this year, most analysts and comments here regard this class as risky, with high injuries (Bradford, Clausen, ect) and multiple problems regarding mechanics (Tebow) and other things.

I AM SO GLAD we took Stafford last year. If we would have waited and kept Culpepper then we would have settled with one of the QB's mentioned above and would be in much worse shape at the QB postion. Either way, I can't wait to see who the Lions draft this year. I know anyone would be an upgrade to what we have except the QB, FS and LB position.

Just food for thought I guess. I would like to hear everyone's thoughts.

Poll
Would we have been kicking ourselves if we would have waited and NOT drafted Stafford?
Yes. Stafford was the BPA at QB and clearly better than the draft class this year.

No. We could have made it just fine with Culpepper and drafted Clausen or someone else at # 2 this year.
