Moose Now The IceCaps

5

The Manitoba Moose have moved to St. John's to make room for the Winnipeg Jets. The Moose have been renamed the St. John's IceCaps and are the AHL team of the Winnipeg Jets. Personally, I love it. Newfoundland is affectionately called the rock for good reason; with their snow covered mountains and spring ice floes (icebergs) paint a beautiful picture of the landscape. This AHL team will be welcomed with open arms to the hockey loving people of Newfoundland, especially since the province hasn't had an AHL team since the 2004-05 season.

Real Men Wear Pink

8

That's what we hear all of the time when it comes to women's cancer support but how does that fit in with prison? Nikolai Khabibulin will wear pink everything in his 15 days behind bars. The colour pink is supposed to have a calming effect, but of course in this situation it is supposed to shame the inmantes.

MacIntyre To Pittsburgh

8

Former Edmonton Oilers' and Florida Panthers' winger and NHL heavy weight Steve MacIntyre signed a one year, 2 way deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins last night. MacIntyre will earn $600,000 at the NHL level MacIntyre is still the same big guy with a big heart that played in Edmonton, and there is now one less player in the league who will fight him with the tragic passing of Derek Boogaard. How many fights Smac will get this year is yet to be seen, but thoughts likely go to Sydney Crosby's lost season this past year. I'm not convinced that that injury could have been avoided by having a MacIntyre.

I remember Dean Lombardi last summer saying to me, 'You guys are putting this on, you're not really feeling this way. The NHL likes this stuff, they want to create a little angst in the media and stuff and get some headlines?' I said, 'No Dean, this is real.' He was shocked that this was going on but Burkie loves the limelight. He's all bluff and loud and MacT said it best - he's like the Wizard of Oz, you pull the curtains away and there's not much substance.

Jeff Deslauriers Signs Another NHL Contract

9

In what will surely be a shock to many a reader here at Copper & Blue, streaky former Edmonton Oilers' goaltender Jeff Deslauriers has signed a two year contract with the Anaheim Ducks. The first year will have Deslauriers on a two way deal, the second a one way deal. When JDD was on his game, I liked him, he was good. When he was bad, not so much. We wish him well.
