Blogging The Boys Should there be a moratorium on football?

American society is a civilized society. We enjoy sports, but we don't enjoy watching players causing permanent physical damage to other players. This is not the gladiatorial tournaments ancient Rome.

Should there be a moratorium on football until it can be made safer - particularly fitting players with more protective helmets? Personally, with the recent death of Junior Seau, I don't want to aid and abet the system that led to his death. I will have to think long and hard this coming fall whether to watch the game I love...

Blogging The Boys Lissyyyyyy's HIGHLY ANTICIPATED 53 man roster!!!!

Bold denotes rookie, asterisk denotes UDFA

Offense (24)

QB: Tony Romo, Kyle Orton

McGee has not shown enough in three years to warrant a roster spot. His time is up.

OT: Tyron Smith, Doug Free, Jeremy Parnell, Jeff Adams*

Jeff Adams has the frame and athleticism to play tackle in this league, although he is really raw. Going into the season with only three tackles is a little risky, so I think they'll add him to the roster and give him a chance to develop.

OG: Nate Livings, David Arkin, Mackenzy Bernadeau

Arkin was a small school lineman who didn't have an offseason last year with the traniers. I think he'll make a big leap this offseason and secure and starting spot.

C: Bill Nagy, Kevin Kowalski

Costa came into the league with a maxed out frame, so what you have seen so far is what you are going to get with him. With a full offseason to develop Nagy and Kowalski (both of whom have better athleticism) should push Costa off the roster.

WR: Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Danny Coale, Raymond Radway, Andre Holmes

Danny Coale should carve out a nice niche for himself playing in the slot, while Holmes and Radway will be competing for snaps at the X and Z when Austin and Bryant need a breather.

TE: Jason Witten, James Hanna, John Phillips

Hanna will play the H-back role in this offense and Phillips should come in when we need a good blocker.

RB: Demarco Murray, Felix Jones, Lance Dunbar*

Lance Dunbar has the size and athleticism that is reminiscent of Ray Rice. He holds UNT's rushing and scoring record and should open up some eyes in training camp.

FB: Lawrence Vickers, Caleb McSurdy

McSurdy should come into training camp as a linebacker, but should make the team as a FB due to the log jam at ILB.

Defense (26)

DL: Jay Ratliff, Sean Lissemore, Jason Hatcher, Tyrone Crawford, Josh Price-Brent, Clifton Geathers

I expect both Crawford and Geathers to show enough in this training camp to make Spears and Coleman unnecessary. Lissemore will be the starter at DE, but should take a lot of snaps at NT as well.

OLB: Demarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer, Victor Butler, Adrian Hamilton*, Kyle Wilber

Albright doesn't not provide anything in the way of pass rush, so he'll likely get pushed off the roster by those who can. I fully expect Adrian Hamilton to surpass Wilber on the depth chart and maybe even Butler. No matter what Division you play in getting 22.5 sacks is not an easy thing to do. This kid is a natural pass rusher.

ILB: Sean Lee, Dan Connor, Bruce Carter, Orie Lemmon

Connor and Carter will be fighting each other for playing time. Regardless of who gets the most snaps on the base defense, I expect Carter to get a lot of time on the nickel.

SS: Gerald Sensebaugh, Barry Church, Danny McCray

This position will remain largely unchanged, but keep an eye on Mana Silva who was swooped off another team's practice squad during last season. He is very athletic and was productive at Hawaii. Could be a training camp surprise.

FS: Brodney Pool, Matt Johnson, Eddie Whitley*

Matt Johnson is considered by many scouting services as a SS safety, but according to the post-draft press conference we consider him more as a combo safety. Anyone who has had 17 career ints can't be bad in coverage. Thus, since our FS position is more in flux he'll get a chance to compete for playing time there, although Eddie Whitley is more of a cover safety and came from a big program so he may force himself onto the roster.

CB: Morris Claiborne, Brandon Carr, Mike Jenkins, Orlando Scandrick, Lionel Smith*

Mike Jenkins is still on the roster for now, but he could very well be traded between now and the final cuts. I think Lionel Smith will make the roster because fits that big athletic corner mold that Rob Ryan seems to covet.

K: Dan Bailey

P: Chris Jones

LS: LP Ladouceur

Sorry Matt McBriar, Chris Jones is cheaper and doesn't have an injury history

PS:

S Mana Silva

CB Isaac Madison*

RB Darrell Scott*

QB Nathan Dick*

OT/OG Levy Adcock*

OG: Ron Leary*

LS: Charley Hughlett*

WR Dwayne Harris

The reason why we might not trade Mike Jenkins Is because if he walks next off season we will likely get a 3rd round compensatory pick for him (given his first round status and he'll likely garner a 6+ million dollar contract).

Don't expect us to trade him today unless we get a third round value for multiple picks or a player we really like drops into the 4th.

This makes it easier to trade him if an opportunity presents itself during the draft.

Blogging The Boys Lissyyyyyy's HIGHLY ANTICIPATED Draft of Under the Radar Small School Freaks

This is my third year doing a draft like this. If you saw my first draft you would have gotten your first glimpse of Sean Lissemore the Magnificent. A few weeks later the Cowboys selected him in the 7th round.

Enjoy...

1. WR/DB/Returner Cody Pearcy Hawk (5'10, 161 lbs)

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YlkMoYr6PtA/T33vJQtA03I/AAAAAAAAAJc/3pqZEOYyzYI/s1600/156741_106993449373715_100001891826132_55058_6827070_n.jpg

4.31 in the 40? Big whoop. 44 inch vertical? Whatever. 3.76 short shuttle? Historic. That beats Jason Allen's record time back in 2006. Pearcy, a division III wide receiver, broke out his junior year with 1,078 yards. His numbers dipped somewhat his senior year, but that probably had more to do with the fact they had him playing DB and returner in addition to his WR duties. He is somewhat small though at 5'10 and 161 lbs, but if he adds another 10 lbs he could easily be the next Desean Jackson or Wes Welker. Don't believe me? Watch his film below. It's like everyone else is playing in slow motion. What may be even more notable is despite his size he is not afraid to go across the middle and keeps his legs moving upon first contact.

2. WR/TE/H-back Derek Carrier Buccaneer (6'3 238 lbs)

http://bloximages.chicago2.vip.townnews.com/beloitdailynews.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/f/92/f92cf78a-f34f-11e0-9e16-001cc4c002e0/4e930782f30c8.image.jpg

Big and thickly built WR who is also extremely athletic (4.50 40, 38" vertical, 6.65 3 cone, and 4.08 SS). Carrier used his size and athleticism to light up division three with 1250 yards and 13 TDs his senior year. This track and basketball athlete has also been compared to Aaron Hernandez in what he could bring to a team.

3. NT Myles Wade Viking (6'1, 312 lbs)

http://www.portlandtribune.com/news_graphics/132087972655227000.jpg

An extremely strong and athletic NT prospect (42 reps and 35.5" vertical). He was virtually unstoppable in division II with 62 tackles and 7.5 sacks last season. What may be even more intriguing is the fact that he was the number one Oregon recruit coming out of high school and received 40 offers from various schools, but could not qualify academically. Because of that he bounced around from a few of junior colleges and universities. He eventually landed at Texas Tech but had to transfer schools to Portland State when his eligibility was up.

4. NT Randy Colling Golden Knight (6'4, 321 lbs)

Another athletic and extremely strong NT (38 reps on the bench) who was a giant among boys in Division II his senior year with nine sacks and 21 1/2 tackles for loss. He doesn't just get by on his natural physical tools, however. As a former wrestler he knows how to use leverage to get the better of his opponents.

5. SS Donovan Richard Bulldog (5'11.5, 215 lbs.)

http://bloximages.chicago2.vip.townnews.com/thetandd.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/1/09/10910292-5434-11e0-a3a3-001cc4c002e0/4d8816b78b847.image.jpg

This division 1-AA player is not just a great athlete (4.40 40, 39" vertical, and 24 reps), but was an extremely productive safety for South Carolina State with 93 tackles his junior year and 119 tackles his senior year along with 6 career interceptions. He was originally thought to be a more of an in-the-box safety at the next level, although his pro-day numbers would suggest that he has more than enough athleticism to be a traditional NFL safety.

6. CB/FS/SS Corey White Bulldog (5'11.5, 206 lbs)

http://media.al.com/sports_impact/photo/10170551-large.jpg

White may not be so much under the radar as the other players as he was invited to the combine. The interesting thing about him though is that he can play either safety or CB. He has great athletic ability (4.39 40, 6.72 3 cone, and 38.5" vertical) to go along with his size, and has shown a knack for making the big hit. Although his real value early on is his fantastic special teams abilities.

7. WR Dale Moss Jackrabbit (6'3, 213 lbs)

http://i2.cdn.turner.com/si/2012/writers/tony_pauline/01/17/shrine.game.practice.reports.tuesday/dale-moss.jpg

This big receiver has good speed for his size with a 4.51 forty (one scout had him sub 4.4) and a great vertical at 41.5". But the number that really jumps out is his ridiculous three cone time at 6.35. That is an off the charts time for smaller players, let alone a 6'3 WR. Moss is a natural athlete who began his college career playing basketball for South Dakota State. But last season made the switch to football, and despite his lack of experience he looks like a natural. In fact he had over 900 yards receiving his one and only year starting for the Jackrabbits. Moss would be a bit of a project, but he has shown innate receiving skills and great athleticism that you just can't teach.

Curry followed up a great Senior bowl with a surprisingly poor 40 time at the combine despite having an excellent 3 cone time. However, he dominated his pro day and has seem to alleviate concerns about his speed.

Look for Vinny Curry, Bruce Irvin, and Shea McClellin to be DE/OLB targets for the Cowboys in the early second round.

Reminds me of Aldon Smith. Think of how ridiculous our pass rush would be with both him and Ware. Probably one of the more underrated players in the draft.

"So this is either a smokescreen on top of another smokescreen, an attempt at a reverse smokescreen, or a genuine attempt by Jerry Jones’ team to hide genuine interest.

Got that?"

What is with all the violence against women by NFL players? It has always been a problem, but it seems I am reading more and more stories about it lately. Something needs to be done.

I guess we are going to have a 4 way competition for center now (Nagy, Kowalski, Arkin, Costa)

I also wonder what effect this will have on Kosier.

Since Roddy can't play the point can we keep him at something he is good at: SG?

just a thought.

This is a pretty unathletic bunch of corners

Even Claiborne disappointed. 83% of the starting corners in this league have a sub 4.5 40. I can't remember witnessing this many corners struggle to get below 4.5. Jenkins and Gilmore are the only top tier corners that met expectations. Disappointing!

How stupid does Cuban feel for keeping Dojo and Roddy over Lin, given the fact that Lin outperformed both of those idiots in the summer league and Roddy and Dojo will amount to nothing?

I'd rather have him than Roddy Booboo

QB Alex Tanney is going to be playing in the All-Star Classic. He may be better known as a youtube internet sensation (link above). Here is what Wes Bunting had to say about him:

"There’s definitely some talent to the game of Monmouth QB Alex Tanney. The 6-3, 217-pound signal caller displays quick feet when asked to set and when he balances his lower half and snaps though the hips he can really spin the football. At times he gets upright and rolls toward his target negating his velocity, but he’s a raw piece of clay that can certainly be molded."

Kind of short but his arms are longer than you would expect with someone of his size and is physically ripped and has speed.

I wouldn't mind drafting ether him or Jenkins.

I have never been one of those fans who hated Jerry Jones, but now I am. Romo is the best thing to ever happen to this team, and consistently outplays Eli year in and year out.

The reason why the Giants are more successful is because the have a good head coach, a good defense, and a better GM. Jerry Jones is the reason why we suck. Not Romo. I will never forgive Jerry for that quote. I hate him so much, I can barely contain my rage.

If you add everything up (12.6 currently + 6 Newman cut post June 1st + 12 reworking Free, Scandrick, and Ware's contract) that equals around 30 million.

And with Brooks Reed and Connor Barwin they don't even need him. Resigning him would be a luxury from their stand point.
