ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Oakland Raiders have fired Head Coach Hue Jackson.

The Oakland Raiders will introduce new General Manager Reggie McKenzie in a press conference at 2PM PST, and we'll likely get a denial/confirmation at that point.

I'm @ work and can't update this story as it unfolds, so please feel free to add more details as they become available.

NFL.com is reporting that DT Richard Seymour, P Shane Lechler, and K Sebastian Janikowski have been named to the 2012 AFC Pro Bowl team. Speculation leading up to today's announcement also had DT Tommy Kelly, CB Stanford Routt, FB Marcel Reece, and RB/ST Rock Cartwright in the running for Pro Bowl selections. I think a few other Raiders will end up on the AFC roster before all is said and done.

Congratulations to these Oakland Raiders for making the 2012 Pro Bowl team, and let's hope they can't go to Hawaii because they're preparing in Indianapolis.

GO RAIDERS!

Silver And Black Pride Five Good Questions With Daily Norseman

SAN DIEGO, CA - NOVEMBER 10: Quarterback Carson Palmer #3 of the Oakland Raiders scrambles with the ball against the San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium on November 10, 2011 in San Diego, California. The Raiders won 24-17. (Photo by Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)

The Oakland Raiders have to leave the State of California for the first time in over a month, and head North to take on the Minnesota Vikings, the first of four games against the NFC North over the next five weeks.

With the suddenly resurgent Denver Broncos right on our tails, this game against the 2-7 Vikings takes on a "must win" feeling to ensure the Raiders can maintain their lead in the AFC West.

Eric Thompson of Daily Norseman, the Minnesota Vikings SB Nation blog, invited Silver and Black Pride to exchange questions and responses in their series "Five Good Questions."

Pass the jump to see Eric's answers to my question about the Minnesota Vikings.

Also be sure to check out Daily Norseman for my answers to Eric's questions about the Raiders.

Raiders.com is confirming that the Oakland Raiders have signed veteran wide receiver T.J. Houshmanzadeh to a 1-year deal worth approximately $500K. The 9 year veteran has played with the Cincinnati Bengals from 2001 through 2008 (5 years with Carson Palmer) before two one-year stops in Seattle and Baltimore. Over those 10 years, Housh has caught 616 passes for 7,091 yards and 43 TDs.

I have mixed feelings about this move. On the one hand I want the team to do whatever it takes to make Carson Palmer feel comfortable to keep our playoff hopes alive this season. On the other hand, those who worried that Coach Jackson was delusionally remembering Carson Palmer from his All-Pro 2004-2006 era may be having some of those fears confirmed as Jackson again brings in someone with whom he is familiar who had great success in the '04-'06 seasons.

The Raiders have not announced a corresponding roster move to make room for Housmanzdeah, who will wear #84.

Thanks to Marcofromda510 and R8RFAN12 for being the first to post this information on S&BP.

Sorry to break up the flow of our discussion about the future of the QB position for the Oakland Raiders, but I have some other news to report. According to his Twitter page, safety Chinedum Ndukwe has signed with he Raiders. Last week NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reported that Ndukwe had a workout for the Raiders, along with several other players.

Ndukwe was originally drafted by the Bengals in 2007 and played with them until last year when he tore his MCL. In 53 career games Ndukwe has managed to rack up 257 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 6 INTs, 3 FRs, and 18 PDs. At 6'2" 225 lbs. Ndukwe has a similar build to Mike Mitchell.

The Raiders have not confirmed this transaction or made a corresponding roster move to make room for Ndukwe, but my guess would be that S Ron Parker would be the odd-man out. Ndukwe may also push Jerome Boyd for playing time.

So welcome Chinedum Ndukwe to the Raider Nation!

Multiple sources, including Jerry McDonald, are reporting that the Raiders have added CB Lito Sheppard to their ranks. The 30 year old Sheppard spent his first 7 seasons with the Eagles before 1 year stints with the Jets and Vikings. Sheppard struggled with the Vikings last year but brings veteran experience to a very young DB corp. With Chris Johnson out after having surgery and rooking CB Demarcus Van Dyke missing the last two practices with an undisclosed injury, the Raiders needed to add to their DB depth.

Now if they'd only do the same thing with the LB corp.

ESPN's Bill Williamson just posted a nice write up of some issues and observations from Raiders training camp in Napa. It doesn't provide a lot of new information for those of us who have been keeping on top of things on a day-to-day basis, but summarizes what's been happening in training camp thus far and what to look forward to for the 2011 season. Enjoy.

As previously reported and discussed on Silver and Black Pride here, Marcus Cannon had previously been diagnosed with a mass in his stomach/groin area, which ended up not being testicular cancer based on a biopsy. Unfortunately, however, the biopsy did confirm that Cannon has a treatable form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and will require chemotherapy. According to the PFT story, the prognosis sounds promising and doctors are "hopeful" that Cannon can continue his football career after 12 to 24 weeks of chemotherapy.

The football-related ramifications of this news aside, I think I can speak on behalf of all of Silver and Black Pride when I say that we hope for a successful and speedy recovery for Marcus Cannon.

National Football Post is reporting that the Raiders have re-signed RB Michael Bennett and G Daniel Loper.

Bennett signed a 1-year, $865K contract.

Loper signed a 2-year, $4.2M contract.

I didn't think Bennett would be back with Louis Rankin back in the fold. I'm glad Loper is back, but $4.2M seems like a lot for a guy who was making near league-minimum before.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that Robert Gallery and Mr. Davis had a conversation in the past few days and both made the mutual decision that the 7 year veteran would not return to the Oakland Raiders next year.

Said Gallery: '"With the end of the league year coming today, and the few conversations I've had with the Raiders and Mr. Davis, we've come to a mutual agreement that it's time for me to move on with my career. I appreciate the start that they and Mr. Davis gave me and I truly have enjoyed my time wearing the silver and black. I wish them well, I thank the fans and I take away great memories of my time in Oakland."

So S&BP followers, what are your thoughts on Gallery leaving and the Raiders replacing him on the offensive line?

Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the Oakland Raiders will not be bringing back John Marshall as defensive coordinator in 2011.

Discuss potential successors who share Mr. Davis' schematic philosophies on defense who may be brought in to run the Raiders' defense in 2011. Who fits the bill for the Raiders defense?

In the midst of once again revamping the coaching staff, the Raiders front office has managed not to completely drop the ball and signed the entire practice squad and a few other familiar names to reserve/futures contracts for next year's OTAs and training camp.

P Glenn Pakulak
WR Damola Adeniji
WR Shaun Bodiford
TE Kevin Brock
DE Tommie Hill
G Alex Parsons
DB Joe Porter
RB Louis Rankin
G Roy Schuening
LB Quentin Scott
FB Manase Tonga

The Raiders brought back Rankin about 2 months too late for my liking, I thought he should have replaced Michael Bennett as soon as Bennett hurt his hamstring. I expect Rankin to compete for the 3rd RB spot next season. The others are simply camp hands.

Silver And Black Pride It's Official: Tom Cable No Longer the Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders

Raiders.com is reporting that the Oakland Raiders have not picked up the multi-year option on Tom Cable's contract and that he is no longer the head coach of the Oakland Raiders.

From Raiders.com

The Oakland Raiders will not extend the contract of Tom Cable for the position of Head Coach.

Cable was informed that his contract would not be extended on Tuesday.

Cable, whose contract expired at the conclusion of the 2010 season, posted a 17-27 regular season record as Head Coach of the Raiders. He served as offensive line coach for the Raiders from 2007-September 30, 2008, when he was named interim head coach.

The Raiders express gratitude to Tom Cable for his contributions in his four seasons as an assistant and as Head Coach of the Silver and Black.

This is a terribly dangerous game Mr. Davis is playing. The great majority of the players, outside of maybe Jason Campbell, fully supported Coach Cable and played hard for him, and the team was finally building on the offensive scheme that he and Hue Jackson had installed.

Let the speculation run rampant about who the next head coach of the Oakland Raiders will be. Jackson? Harbaugh? Other? Discuss your thoughts on the Raiders not retaining Tom Cable and the impact for the Raiders.

UPDATE:

Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that a source close to Hue Jackson said that Jackson was taking over the head coaching position for the Oakland Raiders. This news comes just hours after Al Davis gave the 49ers permission to interview Jackson for their head coaching position.

If this report ends up being correct, how do you feel about Hue Jackson being the next head coach of the Oakland Raiders? What things do you expect to change with Jackson in charge rather than Cable? Discuss.

Shane Lechler in a phone interview with CSN Bay Area. Shane is obviously upset about this move and comes out and asks Mr. Davis for an explanation. Shane also says that many of our free agents will decide not to return, which is my biggest fear with this move.

This whole thing could end up being a huge Catch-22 for Mr. Davis. The current roster underperformed with Tom Cable, but the roster may get downgraded with Cable leaving.

As posted on the Raiders.com Transactions page, the Raiders have re-signed S Stevie Brown to the practice squad. The Raiders also signed S/LB Quentin Scott to the practice squad. Scott played at the University of Northern Iowa and signed as an UDFA with the Chicago Bears earlier this year.

To make room on the practice squad for Brown and Scott the Raiders released LB Slade Norris, a 4th round draft pick in 2009. Norris made some nice special teams plays in preseason and may make his way onto another roster as a special teamer. At this point we'll just try to forget that he was the guy taken right before Indy WR Austin Collie.

So I was checking out Raiders news sites this evening to see if there was any new word about our head coaching situation and I read a few very interesting quotes from former Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.

First Ryan said that he'd be interested in the Raiders head coaching job if it became available. Then, according to Jerry McDonald, Ryan talked up JaMarcus Russell a little bit, essentially saying he was a dangerous offensive weapon and that he was surprised Russell hadn't reached his full potential yet.

Rob, I didn't know you were this genius. Ryan is obviously playing on Al Davis' hopes for an offense led by Russell by hinting that he can get the most out of Russell where Coach Cable has failed to do so.

This could get very interesting in the coming weeks.

Al Davis' obsession with speed continues as ESPN's Bill Williamson is reporting the Raiders signed return specialist Yamon Figurs to a futures contract. Figures, a 3rd round pick in the 2007 Draft, spent his first two years with the Ravens before splitting 2009 between Detroit and Tampa Bay.

Figurs' rookie year was his best, as he put up 1309 total return yards with 2 touchdowns. Figurs and Nick Miller figure to compete for the starting KR job in training camp.

On Sunday, JaMarcus Russell became the second quarterback in the past 14 seasons to throw at least 20 passes, complete less than 30 percent and still win a game. The other QB was the Panthers' Jake Delhomme, who went 7-27 with 1 TD and 4 INTs against the Raiders last season and still eeked out a 17-6 win over the Andrew Walter-led Raiders.

Weird that the Raiders would be involved in both those games.

RICHARD SEYMOUR SPEAKS

From the Boston Herald:

"First of all, I was blindsided by this whole event," Seymour, the five-time Pro Bowler, told Borges. "When you get blindsided, you should take a moment to gather your thoughts. I have a lot of personal issues more pressing than football."

Seymour said if you want to watch for him with his new team, he’ll be wearing No. 92 on Monday Night. "I’ll be the guy on top of the quarterback," he said.

Seymour does plan to play in the opener, obviously. Oh, and did you know he grew up a Raiders fan? Apparently, there are a bunch in South Carolina.

Before we go further, it’s worth noting that Seymour has been in regular contact with Raiders coach Tom Cable and owner Al Davis about his issues. And what are they?

Well, Seymour has four children, plus, he is the guardian of his 15-year-old cousin whose mother has passed. The 15-year-old had been in school in South Carolina until this year, at which point he was starting in North Attleboro… until the trade.

Now, Seymour’s wife and family are moving back to South Carolina (where they are from) and Richard will head to Oakland by himself.

"There are a lot of different emotions," Seymour said. "Football was not my main concern at that point. I have had discussions with the Raiders… I’m excited and happy with the way they’re looking at me."

Did he ever demand an extension or a guarantee of not being franchised?

"There have been conversations," he told Borges, "but I didn’t demand anything to go there. I’m happy to go there, and I told them that. But me and my family have never been separated. This was a difficult transition."

He also noted that the NFLPA filed a grievance on his behalf about the five-day letter, arguing that it was not the Raiders’ right to send it to him.

"But that’s more of a procedural thing," Seymour said, not really specific to his situation.

Cable Says He Talked to Richard Seymour; Seymour Wants to be in Oakland:

Cable: Real quickly about the Richard Seymour issue. We have attempted to make a deal. There are some issues still between him and the Patriots that are being worked out. Hoping that will be resolved as quickly as possible. We know that the player wants to be here, but we have no control really over those issues. That’s really all I’m going to talk about it for now.

Q: Can you tell us how you know he wants to be here? Have you spoken with him?

Cable: I have talked to him.

Q: So he said he wants to be here?

Cable: Yes.

Q: Is there a day you have to have him by to play in the opener?

Cable: As soon as possible. That’s really the only way to answer that right now.

Silver And Black Pride Raiders Bringing DT Boone/OL Mahan for Workout

Brad Biggs of NationalFootballPost is reporting that the Raiders are bringing in defensive tackle Alfonso Boone and that the Raiders are likely to sign the veteran if his passes a physical.

Boone was released by Kansas City on Tuesday, and has also drawn interest from Carolina and his former team Chicago, according to a league source. The Raiders, however, are the favorite to sign the nine-year pro.

He signed a $7.2 million, four-year contract to join the Chiefs in 2007, and appeared in 15 games last season making four starts. In their switch to the 3-4 defense, the Chiefs were using Boone at left end but after first-round draft pick Tyson Jackson reported to camp, Boone soon dropped on the depth chart. Although he can play anywhere on the line, he’s best at tackle.

The Bears offered a contract to Boone in 2007 before he left in free agency but were willing to pay him only the minimum. They took a hit at tackle when Dusty Dvoracek was lost for the season to a knee injury in Week 2 of preseason. The Panthers have been seeking a replacement for starter Maake Kemoeatu, who suffered a torn right Achilles tendon on the first practice of training camp. Carolina traded with Cleveland to acquire tackle Louis Leonard for an undisclosed draft pick on Tuesday.

With the Raiders' last preseason game occurring at the same time as this potential signing, the Raiders will be going entirely on reputation and past performance if Boone makes the final roster. The news should affect Terdell Sands, William Joseph, and Desmond Bryant, who may all be fighting for the same roster spot at this point. Bryant would seem to have the upper hand at this point.

At least the Raiders are attempting to do something about their areas of weakness. Look for the Raiders to comb the waiver wire for backup OL, CB, and possibly a WR. I've heard Sinorice Moss may be done with the Giants, he'd be an upgrade over Nick Miller.

UPDATE:

KFFL is also reporting that the Raiders are bringing in C/G Sean Mahan for a workout today. Mahan was released by the Bucaneers yesterday, and they signed OL Marcus Johnson. It appears as though the Raiders are still looking for an upgrade for backup C/G over Wade and Morris.

Silver And Black Pride Working Toward The 53-Man Roster: Linebackers

In this installment of Working Toward the 53-Man Roster, we’ll discuss the Raiders linebacker ranks. The Raiders only have 10 linebackers on their 80-man training camp roster, and kept 7 on the 53-man roster last season, so most of the players discussed today will end up making the final roster. The bigger question for the Raiders seems to be which 3 linebackers will make up the starting rotation. Continue reading after the jump.

Silver And Black Pride Raiders Claim DT Joe Cohen, Waive CB Jason Horton

Raider fans, your prayers have been answered.....sort of: The Raiders have acquired a new defensive tackle.

The Oakland Raiders Transactions page indicates that the Raiders have claimed defensive tackle Joe Cohen off waivers and waived/injured CB Jason Horton.

Cohen was a 4th round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2007, spent 2007 and the 2008 preseason with the Niners before being released and signed by the Miami Dolphins. Cohen played sparingly with the Dolphins, and was released yesterday.

It is unclear what Cohen's role will be for the last two weeks of the preseason. Does he have a chance to overtake Terdell Sands for the backup nose tackle job, or is he simply a camp body to keep starters fresh and healthy through these last two weeks? It will be interesting to see what Coach Cable has to say about the acquisition tomorrow.

The Green Bay Packers released C/G Duke Preston today. You may remember that the Raiders spoke with Preston prior to acquiring Samson Satele. I'm wondering if Preston makes a better backup center/guard than the undersized Chris Morris. I'll take any opportunity to strengthen the depth on the offensive line. Thoughts?
