Gentlemen and Ladys this is our day
In 1924 Minnesotans, alumni and students walked into a new stadium on the corner of Oak and University. A stadium paid for by student donations to honor the veterans returning from the Great War. At this time these students may have had grandparents or great grandparents that lived through our Civil War. This was a different time. But tomorrow, we get to make our own history, our own memories of the first day that the Gophers came back home. Tomorrow, to me, is about so more than winning or losing. It's our time, as Gopher fans of the modern era to set the tone for future generations. You can't start a new tradition, but you can recapture traditions of old and make them your own. Tomorrow, the day of days that we've waiting for, remember all the great Gopher fans that are no longer with us. We will doff our caps to thee.
4th of July Beer Blast
As usual, Tipsy and Lloyd's Annual Beer Blast and Golden Gopher Football Roundtable went off this past weekend up on Crane Lake. A houseboat was rented from our regular guy (thanks Raleigh!!!) and we set off with a band of scoundrels, drunkards, freshwater Pirates and bankers; all of which were Gopher fans. To keep the party zesty, we were able to bring along one or two Brewster detractors, who kept the Roundtable exciting and full of good (and sometimes bad) hearted spirit. While The Roundtable delved into topics such as "How much will Decker get double teamed this year, and should we look for a drop off in his production?" we tried to keep the topics at hand spicy, for the drunkards among our number. The most spirited discussion was about the Beer Ban, and more importantly, the liquor smuggling opperations that will take place this fall. In addition, a proper memorial to the Immortal poster Kelly Leeks was discussed. It appears that a lobster feast (his favorite food) will be held before the Cal game, as a proper Memorial.
Tipsy, with his more honed gift for the written word, will chime in later as a reply to fill in some of the more details about our "company" on the houseboat, details about the roundtable and walleye fishing.
