2011 NFL Draft (Day 1)
I had a nightmare last night. The Cowboys shocked everyone and took a TE with their 1st round pick.
Goose's final MOck:
OT: Cover Songs
Instead of doing work (which is probably going to bite me in the ass come tomorrow morning), I started going through youtube and finding random music/songs to listen to. I came across Pearl Jam's (Eddie Vedder's) version of Tom Petty's classic, I won't back down. And, I must say, it is probably one of the best cover songs I have ever heard.
I'm just curious...What are some of y'alls favorite covered songs?
Here's just a few I've come across...
Eddie Vedder covering Tom Petty
John Mayer Trio covering The Mamas & The Papas
And yeah...anything the Beatles cover.

i think this is sickels top 100...i think.
The Rangers' Nelson Cruz hit a line drive this spring that Rockies manager Jim Tracy called "the hardest hit ball I've seen in 35 years in a major league uniform.'' The ball sailed over the head of Rockies left fielder Ryan Spilborghs. Rockies roving pitching coach Marcel Lachemann saw it. "If Ryan had caught it,'' said Lachemann, "it would have pinned him to the left-field fence.'' Added Spilborghs: "It hit my glove and still hit the fence on the fly. If I had caught it, the force would have taken me through the fence.''
OT: Tiger Woods
You knew there was going to be much more to this...
Tiger has yet to be formally interviewed by the Florida Highway Patrol -- that should happen this afternoon. But we're told Tiger had a conversation Friday -- with a non-law enforcement type -- detailing what went down before his Escalade hit a fire hydrant.
We're told he said his wife had confronted him about reports that he was seeing another woman. The argument got heated and, according to our source, she scratched his face up. We're told it was then Woods beat a hasty retreat for his SUV -- but according to our source, Woods says his wife followed behind with a golf club. As Tiger drove away, she struck the vehicle several times with the club. We're told Woods became "distracted," thought the vehicle was stopped, and looked to see what had happened. At that point the SUV hit the fire hydrant and then hit a tree.
We're also told Woods had said during the conversation Friday he had been taking prescription pain medication for an injury, which could explain why he seemed somewhat out of it at the scene.
Gary Sheffield released
I'd rather have him as our RH slugger than Jones..
TNew goes off
i actually like everything he said.
Ben Sheets...
This is why I have been somewhat leery about signing Sheets...he is going to be a huge injury risk...
All of baseball, the Texas Rangers and the Milwaukee Brewers included, have treaded lightly around the subject of Ben Sheets’ pitching elbow.
Which is abundantly understandable. A club doesn’t want to spend $20 million over two years on a pitcher when the pitcher is destined to have Tommy John surgery and miss the next two seasons.
So, the Rangers wait. They want to see more medical information. They want to make sure that the guaranteed money, the draft pick they would have to surrender to sign the free agent, and the odds of Sheets staying healthy all add up.
I remember hearing about this from Joel Sherman on the Kellerman show, but it seems like his back could be a bigger issue going forward...
A cursory Internet search of Sheets’ medical history paints a picture of a player whose previous most debilitating injury wasn’t a frayed labrum or a failing rotator cuff, but a torn muscle in the upper part of his back.
I dunno, too many red flags to sign him?? Or, should we sign him anyway, see what happens...
This impressed me. Biden makes a joke about Chief Justice Roberts and Obama seems to be a bit peeved about it. So far, I'm impressed...

but I'm sure bg will use big words for no apparent reason and djc will say something just because, well, he's djc...
OT: Kellerman vs. Phillips
LOL. I usually post something like this in a thread, but today's argument was CLASSIC. Steve Phillips is trying to argue with Max, but of course, fails. Then he goes the route of saying stats don't play baseball, sabermetrics is stupid, blah blah blah... and, the whole time, Max is as cool as the other side of the pillow.
Anyways, check out this podcast.
It's the 7/30 podcast. It starts about at 9:40 and they're talking about relief pitching.
Thoughts after listening to it?
Legendary
Greatest ending to a Rangers game I have seen in a very long time.
Josh ain't scared, so why should you be?:
K-Rod trying to throw a curve to Josh....uhh, please:
Heh...K-Rod doing all he can to fool Josh with a leg kick and trying to go parallel to the ground. Sorry, son, nothing will help you here:
Yeah, at this point, K-Rod is thinking, "OOOPS!":
Gone.
"Yay! Woo hoo! I'm king of the world!!" - says Laird.
"Don't touch me there!" - says Madrigal.
Jamey Wright is about to go all Miles on someone.
(MY looks exhausted here):
for AJM.
I Am Beast. Here me ROAAAAR!
Game Over.
We win.

Pitching by committee tonight
Warner Madrigal will start. No Michael Ballard. Don't think Madrigal can pitch more than three innings.
Not sure on the reasoning for deciding on the bullpen over Ballard, but we'll get you an explanation soon enough.
And a little REM to take up some space:
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

JD on Max Kellerman Show
Probably one of the best podcasts out there. I really wish we had a Max Kellerman type personality here in the D/FW or even Houston area...
Anyways, Max interviews Jon Daniels (sorry if this has already been posted). JD talks about the Ponson release, trading deadline (looks like he's going after a MRP), and the Chris Young/Adrian Gonzalez trade (Max is a straight shooter here). A lot of interesting stuff, check it out...
And, for those who think golf is not a sport (dirkatron), you will love, LOVE the first part of the podcast.
Of course, you will need iTunes.
it's the 6/19 one...
