The shady BCS teams and my thoughts

When I watch ESPN every day, I can't help to think about all the shady things that go on in college football. I would hate for college football to end up like MLB and have negative things be the headliner for the sport. The way things are going, the BCS will be the steroids for college football. When MLB starts, they don't talk about baseball they talk about steroids. I really think college football is headed in the same direction. When college football is mentioned, the thing that stands out to just about everyone is the horrible BCS system. The solution seems so easy for everyone....a playoff. I wonder why some teams want a new system and why some teams (for whatever horrible excuse) want to keep the current system. I thought of a list of teams that have benifited the most from the BCS system in recent years, and wonder WHY they benefited.

1) Notre Dame- This team is independent. WTF does this mean? I think its the easiest route ND has to take to reach a BCS game or a MNC game. I'm pretty sure ND would never have won a conference championship in the past 10 years if they were in a conference. I don't think ND is independent in any other sport except football. What's up with that (shady)?

2) Oklahoma- How did Oklahoma get the nod to the MNC game a few years back over an undefeated Auburn team? How did ou get the nod over a team that beat them by 10 points on a neutral field? How does ou get off the hook of violating NCAA rules all the time?

3) Ohio State- Ohio State has benefited the most from the BCS system in my opinion. Ohio State plays in a BCS game or MNC game every year because the BCS system still considers the Big10 an elite conference. Ohio State is a good team, but they definitly didn't deserve to play in 2 staright BCS games (got blown out in both). I'm still shocked that they got a BCS game this year against Texas. I know the game was great, but it was basically Ohio State's last chance for respect.

I definitly think a lot of politics come into play in the BCS system. I think it seems weird how some teams benefit more than others in the BCS system. I'm almost positve that a lot of shady actions are taking place behind closed doors.

Other stuff..

RECRUITING: I think it would be better for UT if they get Jackson Jeffcoat than L. Seastruck or D. White. He's just a DL, but he's going to be great and UT is pretty deep at RB and WR ( I would love to get all three).

The new field looks great. I like the good ole' grass field, but it really does look great. I think it will help recruiting as well. The coaches can show the stadium off with the playing surface on the field year around instead if just a plain grass field (the recruits can picture themleves scoring touchdowns easier with the football field fresh on their mind).

USC & OSU OVERRATED!

I was watching ESPN last night, and they were talking about all of the drafts picks that come out of USC and Ohio State. Since 2004, USC and Ohio State put 70+ players into the NFL...The BIG shock to me is that only 3 of those 70+ players have made the pro bowl.

I really doubt that Sanchez will do anything great in the NFL, considering he didn't really do anything amazing playing in college with an NFL team.

I don't think USC deserves all the praise that ESPN (Cowherd) and the media gives them. The media is a little harder on OSU.

Why does USC and OSU have so many players that are great in college and fall off in the NFL. I think its weird how they both happen to play in the two most overrated confernces (and win them every year). ou could almost fall into this category as well.

ou's BELL

ou has recently received a commit from thier future QB..Mr. Bell. I think this kid is ou's sloppy seconds after getting turned down by the UT commit. I'm sure the kid is talented, but I think ou will be hurting when Bradford leaves after this year (if Bradford leaves after this year).

I wouldn't be suprised if Bradford comes back after next year. He definitly struggles under pressure and I don't think he'll be throwing to wide open WR in the NFL (obviously he knows that). When the defense is tight, he struggles (MNC game). I can't wait to see what Bradford does with a young OL. I'm sure he'll do great against the D2 teams they play this year, The only team in the Big 12 that will test the young ou OL line is Texas. Texas has Houston, Kindle, Acho , and Alexander/Rhandall coming at him. PLUS Okafor will be comin' too on 3rd down situations (not to mention the veteran LB unit).

I think Bradford is WAY overrated, just like the next ou QB will be. It's great that you put 60+ against jv teams...but it's time to play varsity ball.

C. Johnson hurt

Cody Johnson pulled his hamstring during spring practice. I was looking forward to seeing his progress at the spring game, but hopefully Texas can build more depth at the RB position. Fozzy and Johnson are now out, so Newton, Hills, and McGee are the RB's to watch.

Spring practices this year were suppose to find a RB and TE, and the two that were suppose to take the jobs are now hurt. The good news is that they both got atleast a week of practice in. I'm not too worried about the RB position because I think the coaches know what Cody Johnson brings to the table. Whaley is coming too! The TE is a BIG question mark still.

Muschamp back in Alabama?

Coach Muschamp has recently been seen back in Alabama visiting with Nick Saban. Should we worry??? This is suppose to be a time when coaches meet with other coaches picking each other brains. I worry because Alabama is lacking a LB coach and could use Muschamp as a def. coor. (who can't). Muschamp and Saban are old buddies, and it scares me that they are together. Thoughts?

Is Jeffcoat an ou lean? I read a few weeks back that he was an ou lean.

Is there any recent recruiting rumors?

What's up with Calvin Howell? OB has a headline saying...the latest on Clavin Howell.

10 POINTS

Texas beat ou on a neutral field by 10 points, and Florida beat ou by 10 points on a neutral field. The BCS put ou in because of their margin of victory against opponents, so what the hell!?

Tim Tebow won't play QB in the NFL, he can't throw very good at all. I think he's a future FB or TE.

Sam Bradford definitly isn't the best player in college football. He isn't even the best player on ou (I'll take the TE). I hope he comes back to play next year behind a young OL and with young WR's, we'll see how great Bradford is next year.

When people talk about Texas having a "gimmicky offense", they need to mention Florida before they talk about any teams offense. What a goofy offense!

Percy Havin reminds me of Romance Taylor back in 2005. I think Texas needs to find a player that can play that role again.

I hear people saying Tim Tebow is the greatest player in college football history. I think VY is a better runner and passer than him, and he played great in big games as well. Tim Tebow's numbers look better because he isn't good enough to play in the NFL.

2009 top 5:

1) Florida (if Tebow comes back)

2) Texas (if McCoy comes back)

3) USC

4) Ohio State

5) ou

Honorable Mentions: LSU, Penn State

Auburn stalking Muschamp?

I saw on Orangebloods that Auburn won't leave Muschamp alone. Is Auburn a threat to take Muschamp away from UT? I would think that Muschamp wouldn't leave less than a month after the news of him being the next head coach at UT. Why would he even meet with people from Auburn?

I think Texas, USC, and Florida are going to be the top three teams in college next year to start the season. ou is losing their entire o-line except for 1 person. I can't wait to see how great Bradford is next year. My only worry is replacing Orakpo at DE. Texas doesn't have anybody with the pass rushing skills that Orakpo has (but who does). I hope nobody does anything stupid and leaves early to the NFL like Charles and Finley did last year (Kindle, Houston, etc.).

I have officially jumped off the college football bandwagon after this season. I was starting to love college football waaaaay more than the NFL, but then a season like this happened and I don't even understand how people can honestly justify championships in college. When Texas won in 2005, it was uncontested and obvious...so it worked out. 2005 happened to be one of the only uncontested championships ever in college football. The thing that bothers me is that there doesn't seem to be any motivation from people that matter trying to fix college football. I know they don't have any motivation because they would lose a few dollars making a college football championship more efficient. I hope that a few people would be willing to lose a few dollars in order to keep the integrity and purity of the game alive.

The BCS system is so pitiful that players are leaving early to the NFL just because the system is such garbage.

I am so proud of this Texas football team, and I hope the BCS doesn't screw them. I'm almost 100% sure that ou will get to play in the Big 12 Championship game even though TEXAS BEAT THEM BY 10 POINTS ON A NEUTRAL FIELD. I know the obvious facts don't matter when it comes to the BCS, but this is the first time I remember Texas really getting screwed by the system. It hurts.

The Good:

-Texas is still #2 in front of ou after beating down Tech.

-If Texas plays well against a&m Thursday on national television, they can win some votes back.

-Mack will start lobbying after they beat a&m on Thursday.

-I heard some coaches don't participate in the coaches poll until the final ballot (may hurt or help).

-The computers seem to love Texas

-Texas will atleast get the Fiesta Bowl if they do get screwed. I don't really see a difference in the Fiesta Bowl and the Holiday Bowl. The only difference is the school gets more money, but I don't know how it benefits the players in any way. Another reason a playoff is the obvious answer.

The Bad:

-The importance of the Red River Rivalry is obiously diminishing, because Texas beat ou by 10 points and ou is about to pass them in the BCS.

-Texas might beat a&m Thursday, but a&m may still beat Texas in a way by simply being a crappy team. A win against a&m won't help them at all in the BCS unless they can win some human votes.

-It might rain on Thursday night, which may hurt the style points that are much needed against a&m.

Extra stuff:

It shouldn't matter how much you beat opponents by or who you played if the team your trying to pass beat you by 10 points. The only time it should matter is if you haven't played a team, and your trying to convince people why your team should be ahead of a team that you haven't played.

The Texas fans must have DKR rockin' Thursday night.

GO BAYLOR! BEAT TECH

COLT FOR HEISMAN!

My Thoughts

It seems to me like Colt is starting to look like 2007 Colt. He has thrown 5 INT's in 3 games. I hope Colt gets it together fast, because the injuries are starting to stack up and Texas can't afford to give away free points. I think he'll be fine, but he has to make better decisions sometimes. The offense has looked a little tired to me the past two games, I hope they wake up soon.

Has anybody heard the status of Ulatowski? T. Hills got hurt against Tech last year, and a&m tore the o-line up the next game. When will Orakpo, and Houston be back? Acho is a big step down from Orakpo when it comes to pass rushing . When is Chykie Brown going to be healthy?

McGee looks like he's running the ball better now than he did at the beginning of the year. I still think Fozzy is the RB of the future by far, and should get the majority of the snaps.

It seems to me that the winner of the Tech/ou game will play in the Big 12 championship game. If Texas wins out, they will play in the Fiesta Bowl if Tech/ou play in the national championship game. The good news is it seems that if Texas wins out, they will get one of the BCS games (I will be pissed if ou passes UT in the polls).
