All of the 2010 commits were there save Ashton Dorsey (Don't look too much into that.)

Wilson and Daniels worked out together and looked...fast.

McCoy and Woods were tossing around the rock with D White. The receivers this year were spectacular. No commit from White.

Has anyone seen Trovon Reed or Lache Seastrunk? Mack hasn't either. Reed cancelled, Lache may be a no show. If so Mack may see the ensuing circus and hedge his bets.

Of the linebackers Aaron Franklin showed really well and may be recieving an offer in the near future.

None of the West Orange Stark boys were offered.

It doesn't look like there were any new offers extended.

A couple of surprises. One Christian Westerman, an OL from AZ showed up. Don't really know much about him. But he made the effort to come so the staff will evaluate him. I expect him to become a 2011 target. Also 2010 Denton Receiver Bud Sasser apparently showed well.

Next week expect Aaron Green and Demarco Cobbs to show.

9:29 ET...I think Herschel Sims might be a dark horse as RB prospect for Texas.

I feell like Seastrunk's recruitment is becoming a Circus. He is clinging to Trovon and has intimated his intentions to commit to Auburn. These coupled with what appears to be a no show today kinda make me think...

Ross Apo recieved the MVP at this Camp in CA. This should help quash any talk of him not being worthy. Big Kid, BIG strides and great hands. It looks like he has high top end speed but slow acceleration.
BTW his shorts say OU.

Jackson Jeffcoat A Sooner??? Lache Seastrunk News

One of the Sooner Boards has Jackson as a Commit.

In case it disappears:

Jeffcoat committed today. This will be news. Gave silent to our coach stoops. We are cousins btw.

This from a "Hall of Fame Poster" on that Board. More on this later (after jump???), Now lets Talk recruiting.

Demarco???

Polo...

Demarco???

Polo...

It appears that the dance between UT and Cobbs may be over. The staff wanted him to visit this spring, however no Cobbs. I think this one is all but done. Let's hope I am wrong and he squeezes in a visit.

Trovon Reed

Chirp....Chirp...Chirp. (crickets)

Thats what Reed is hearing from the Texas coaches lately. The question is what does this mean for Lache's recruitment??? Lache again said this weekend he wants to play with Reed in College.More on Lache in a few.

Jackson Jeffcoat

Jackson Jeffcoat and members of his fam, minus his mother, visited OU this last weekend. No news...Other than that erstwhile OU poster who later renegged. This one is looking better and better for Texas. We very may well see Jeffcoat with horns on.

Corey Nelson

There is a ton out on Nelson, but it is not definitive. It looks like OU and Texas are the two leaders with Texas having a slight lead. Muschamp may be overseeing this recruitment personally. I feel confident about this one.

Jordan Hicks

The staff wants him to visit, but the distance makes it difficult. Rumor has it that Muschamp has been to a few of his BBall games this winter. Muschamp may be personally overseeing this recruitment too. I am solidly on the fence for Hicks.

Darius White

He has visited Texas quite abit this spring and things are looking sweet for the good guys. It seems like he may just want to be sure that he has looked at all the possibilities before he commits.

Jake Matthews

Its between us and aTm, the advantage to them, only because he has family there.

Lache Seastrunk

He has visited twice within the last month, which can only be positive for us. However he visited Auburn this weekend with Reed. In his interview he said he really enjoyed Auburn and could see himself playing there. Lache's pastor is also a family member of one of the Auburn staff. Again, Lache mentioned playing with Reed in college. I am starting to feel alittle better about getting Lache. I am less concerned than I was about his being "locker room cancer." His recent interviews have been few and far between but he has been extremely professional in them. I think his questionable interviews may have just been inexperience. I do think he is an exceptional talent and, if I am wrong about my initial impressions, could be one of the best to ever wear Burnt Orange.

Torrea Peterson

I have never heard anything from this guy. I think it was a fling.

I think we close out with Nelson, Hicks, White, Jeffcoat and Seastrunk. (Hopefully)

Off Topic,

I am looking to come to a game this fall. My wife use to play volleyball at UT but I am pondering the Red River Shootout. Does she still have priority?? Should I just look online at the appropriate time??? The ticket offices website sucks. Its a big mystery, any suggestions??? Also contemplating the Tech game.

My Peeps, It appears that my initial intuition about Demarco Cobbs was correct. He recently did an interview with the Scout.com in which he ranked OU fourth behind Southern Cal , Florida and Louisiana State. After the whole JR day fiasco I'm not sure we are too interested anymore anyway.

Jordan Hicks recently attended a combine in Cincinati in which he gained more acclaim. He Posted a 4.5/40 on a "soft" surface with 37 inch vertical. The kid is explosive! He is also hard to read. Some boards say it looks good for Texas, I say its too ambiguous to call anything in this one.

Rivals.com recently came out with their top 100 in which they included a small blurb from each five star. Seastrunk was bitter about some the criticism he was recieving. (couldn't find the link) Something like I don't know how those people judge me and don't even know me. I wonder if he.., cuz I ... Anyways, for the record I think with he, Gilbert and D. White we would be the best offense ever.

I still think LM gets him.

will buy you a cup of coffee at Starbuck's. With Texas toeing the NCAA commit limit in the 2010 recruiting class some recruits are beginning to show their colors. As my title initimates any real finality is atleast 11 months away but atleast some credence could be given to my speculation on these matters.

First up is Demarco Cobbs. Brown and Co. may not even be courting this young man anymore. Last weekend Cobbs was scheduled to attend Junior Day but was a no-call no-show. Cobbs later said that his ride--his former coach, now AD, had a last second commitment. It is believable, Cobbs does appear to be a man of limited resources, however it does not explain the no-call. Hopefully there is a good explanation for this snub that I have not come across yet, I have been looking for a week. Ofcourse then he said this. (Said USC is his No 1, said it this weekend.) If Cobbs does not visit campus soon the sun may set on his possibilities at Texas, if it hasn't already.

Let's talk Matthews. It was first speculated that Texas might not recruit the Oline this year, then came Trey Hopkins, then Espinosa and then Matthews. Matthews is the son of former Oiler great Bruce Matthews. Matthews was on campus just prior to the last junior day. While taking in the first practice it has been said that Matthews' father was not very enthusiastic about Texas blocking schemes or drills. Matthews goes somewhere without the spread, and that is elsewhere.

Seastrunk. I have to say that Seastrunk looks every bit the 5star talent he is supposed to be. But after having listened to several of his interviews I must preface my post by saying that he has lockerroom cancer written all over him. Right now all signs point everywhere but Austin. In many of his quasi-public appearances Seastrunk has repetitively sported USC attire. Seastrunk's cousin (not sure if they are really cousins or if that is a term of endearment from Lache) currently plays for LSU and Seastrunk has said he wants to go to school with some friends, namely Trovon Reed (also a Texas Offer.) Pair this with our taking Blue chipper RB Shead and I think Texas is not in the cards.

Nelson. Corey Nelson has not been to warm on Texas. With Texas already having two LB commitments in the books and things looking good for Hicks' recruitment (.....then there is his famous horns down incident....) Nelson does not go to Texas.

Reggie Wilson. Wilson's coach has said that Wilson is close to making his decision and Texas is among the top five. All the boards have Wilson as a Texas lean. He will make a decision before his spring ball ends. Wilson wears Burnt Orange in college.

Adrian White is scheduled to announce his decision this friday on Geoff Ketchum's radio show. Ketchum is on record saying that Texas has a silent commit and many are speculating that White is it. White is on the Forty next Spring, I'm calling it.

As much as people think it is, we are better off without Seastrunk. Cobbs is the biggest loss, IMO. I am not sold on needing Matthews either. I would really like to get Darius White. In Cobbs' stead Deandrew White would be an amazing addition. The kid was crushed not getting an offer last weekend, but I thinkTexas ges an auto commit here if they offer.

These recruits are kids and are allowed to make mistakes. It is difficult for them to handle their celebrity. I acknowledge that.

Lastly, I want to apologize to the swim enthusiasts for my having fun at their expense. Swimming is an important sport and Texas is awesome at it. I'm just sayin..

The usual roundup won't be published today, instead this is all you get. The editor was giving me fits. Enjoy. I hope the old guy comes back.....soon.

Football

Texas

Bill Little commentary on Noble Doss.

In the fall of 1939, Noble's first year on the Texas varsity, the Longhorns took a train to Madison, Wis., to play the Badgers. The train stopped in Kansas City, and the team got off and practiced, and then headed on north.

Now, just three months shy of what would have been his 89th birthday, the train ride has come to an end for Noble Doss.

Nice tribute to Noble here.

Longhorns Gameday reports Nolan's Father hires former Longhorn.

Minnesota Head Coach Tim Brewster hires ex-Longhorn Richard Hightower as receivers coach.

Hightower was a walk-on who eventually earned a scholarship at the University of Texas from 1999-2002, while Brewster was an assistant coach there. Hightower played defensive back, wide receiver and on special teams for the Longhorns, appearing in 33 games.

“He’s a tremendous character guy, a work ethic guy,” Brewster said. “He has a tremendous personality. He’s going to be an outstanding coach and recruiter.”

According to Bucks Insider young Montana Makes his rounds, does anyone think he is going anywhere but ND.

Quarterback prospect Nick Montana — second son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Montana — showed up as planned Monday and Tuesday for an unofficial visit of Ohio State with his mother. Those familiar with the situation said his father apparently is not allowed to fly at the moment as he recovers from some sort of recent back surgery.

They left Tuesday afternoon with a next next stop of Austin, Texas, where they planned to tour the Texas campus and facilities in a similar way. By the way, Nick Montana isn’t skipping school; Oaks Christian is off this week.

BIG XII

The DFW Star-Telegram weighs in on Leach's Contract Talks.

For all his quirks and pirate stories, Mike Leach knows how to coach. He has been coaching at Tech for nine seasons, and the Red Raiders have been to nine bowl games.

For that, word has leaked out that Tech may be co

nsidering firing Leach when the school's Board of Regents meet Friday to discuss his future. If that happens, it won't take long for Baylor to pass Tech in the Big 12 South standings.

Sam Bradford gets more hardware.

"not quoting this"

BASKETBALL

BIG XII

Kirk Bohls keepin' it real.

With the college basketball regular season winding down — is it winding down or unraveling? — it's time to start recognizing those who have made the Big 12 what it is: Oklahoma's doormat.

Special Teams,

Punting

We have some the best most consistent punting in the nation, although that rugby style punt can get Sporty. Punt coverage was sketchy at times. We gave up more yards than I would have liked. The Williamses were studs last year. M Williams was almost always the first one down and A Williams was a punt blocking Ma-cheen. I expect that incoming freshmen Davis and/or Barnett will also add some pressure. Shipley did well as the returner but I expect to see a different face on returns. Maybe Hales or A Williams or, he is still here, DJ Monroe.

Kick Offs

We had awesome kickers, I wish we could have gotten more touchbacks, but that is asking alot. Again we gave up alot of yards in coverage at crucial moments. (Tech) But it improved at the end of the season. Same deal with the returners.

FGs

Again 2 great kickers. I think there was a low in kicking in the middle of the season but was overall consistent. I expect consistency this year. We could always use more blocks.

Let's talk some O.

O-line.

Sigh. What is the deal here??? We lose Dockery. But our line play was less than impressive last year. Alot of our run game problems start here. Colt was on his back alot as well. We have a five star coming in Mason Wolters. Huey and Snow were getting acclaim at the beginning of last season. An ijury prone Ulatoski returns this year. Tanner and Hix also coming back. We need vast improvement here.

QB

I think we are good, except McCoy would occaisionally regress. He still had a few fumbles. Expect to see Colt taking more snaps under center and more downfield bombs. Back Up...................................................................................................................

............................... John Chiles should be penciled in, but if Gilbert gets PT that will leave 2 years for McCoy 2.0 or other. It is very speculative right now, especially since Case is stil in HS and -other- is undetermined. I like Sherrod Harris alot, but it is not looking good for him.

RB

Call me crazy but I think we are lookin good here. The Foz should be our no.1 but McGee could just as easily be that if he can learn to pick up the blitz. I thought our backs did well when they could get past the first level. The line had real problems last year and the backs were not mature enough. We lose the big play capability of Ogbannaya. I did say big play, and it is earned. In reserve we have Hills, Newton with Whaley coming in. CJ still bringing the house, he had no probs breaking through, but his top end speed was lacking. If he can shed some pounds like the staff wants he might improve there. One more thing, I noticed the Foz motioned to wideout in the two minute drill, so his hands are probably decent. I expect to be better here.

WR

I think Collins/Kirkendoll can be our possesion reciever. Shipley, nuff said. Malcolm Williams' time has come. Excited to see him this year. Buckner was not real impressive last year but size can give him confidence, he or Grant may switch to TE. Also we have Webber, Payne, Hales and Monroe in the wings. I expect some transfers and/or Monroe may switch to defense. Look for more downfield passing to help our run game.

TE

I am not holding my breath for Irby, its a shame too. Marshall should be back and we have Mathews and Graham coming in. This is a real immediate need. Big questions remain here.

G Davis

I thought he did well last year. While we were not one dimensional, we struggled when the defense brought their safeties up. We have some legit deep threats this year which should back the defenses off. Expect less spread this year and more running. Overall I think we are better, but I expect Cosby will be missed on some 3rd/4th downs. If we can control the clock better it will help our defense tremendously.

Longhorny
