Peter Kings Best and Worst of the 2000s
Peter King put out an article today over at SI.com that goes through teams, players, coaches and others in the NFL over the last decade. Rightfully so he names the Lions the worst team of the decade and this is what he had to say about them:
I don't disagree with calling my beloved Lions the worst team, they are what they are and I love them still. But to say the Lions ruined the reputations of those people mentioned in his article does irk me a little. Before Millen the Lions were OK, not great but not the dregs of the league either. They were consistently in the playoffs and only missed them by a field goal the year before he got there. Maybe Mornhinweg and Mariucci weren't given the fairest of chances but I also think most of their failure falls on them. Marinelli, as much as I liked him, brought in a bunch of his guys and seemed to regress as his tenure advanced. Out of the players listed, Harrington is the only one who didn't give up or screw up where the blame doesn't fall squarely on his shoulders. Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like all of those listed helped to ruin the Lions more than the other way around. You cna read the whole article at the link below.WORST FRANCHISE: Detroit Lions
They had one winning season -- 9-7, in 2000. Since then, in nine seasons, the Lions have won 33 games and ruined the reputations of four football men (Matt Millen, Marty Mornhinweg, Steve Mariucci and Rod Marinelli), one piano-playing quarterback (Joey Harrington) and three receivers (Charles Rogers, Roy Williams and Mike Williams).

Pasedena
I was hoping for a blowout but I'll settle for the nail-biter. Congrats to all of you Longhorn fans, I'm hoping you guys play a lot better against Alabama and go 3 for 3 in Pasadena in January. I've said it before, but outside of Michigan and few others, there isn't a team I'd root for if they're playing Texas (you guys [as in the fans] earned a lot of respect from me at the Rose Bowl in 2005), so I'm hoping you guys get to celebrate bringing home that crystal football for the second time in 5 years.

Did I miss something
I'm not the most astute person in the world, but aren't Cal and USC in the Pac 10 and not the Big 10? You would think the World Wide Leader would know that.

Just Plain Wrong
I can't believe King's Island would ever have approved something like this. I don't know if anybody on this site has seen this yet, but I figured I would share with you just the same.

Michigan player punches ND player
http://affiliate.kickapps.com/_Irish-player-punched/video/784982/48860.html
I read about Weiss complaining about this the other day, and that he had video he was sending to the Big Ten to review, but I think that if this is what they are reviewing, it's pretty weak. There was a link to this on the Detroit News this morning and the "punch" may have been deliberate, but it does not seem like much anything to me when I watched it. I just thought I would share it with everybody else though and see what you thought.

Detroit News interview with Rodriguez about upcoming season.
Nothing super illuminating here, but its worth the minute or two it takes to read it.

Andy Staples @ SI.com takes a look at BCS expansion
I thought this article was interesting considering you guys have talked about which schools the Big Ten might take/want in the event of an expansion. It covers the Big Ten but also the Big 12 and the Pac 10. It's not great, but it is an interesting read.

Don't think of me as crazy
I like a lot of the optimism I've been reading in some of the recent posts. I know we have all been fooled before, especially over the last 9 years. This year however, does genuinely feel different. I am hopeful for the possibility of more wins than loses in our future, even if they come slowly.
With that being said, i live in California, and rarely, if ever, make it home to Detroit during football season, but I've made sure its okay with the wife if the unthinkable happened and the Lions made the Superbowl, that I could pay just about whatever for a ticket home to Motown to watch with friends in family .
Now my question to everybody on here is this, if the Lions somehow make it there( obviously not this season, and probably not next) would you rather be at the game, enjoying it in person, or would you rather be home (or if its not your home, Detroit) to be part of the party that would take place if they actually won the Lombardi trophy?
I feel like Detroit would be crazier than I could ever remember it being after the championships I have been there for. What are your thoughts?

You guys have been busy
Looks like you guys have got a lot done in a short time here. Keep it up, it looks great.
I look forward to visiting here alot to keep up on all things Spartan related. I know the profile says Michigan Wolverines, but I still root for you guys when you're playing any other team (except for the WMU Broncos, which doesn't happen to often.)
So good luck in whatever season it is, I look forward to some civil conversations in the future.

General Sherman
I don't know if I missed this at some point, but how is it that Sherman came to be the secondary logo or guardian to this page. Is it a jab at the SEC and and how he tore up the South, the fact that he was Ohio born, is it both? Just curious. He is one of my favorite figures from the Civil War and I love that he is prominantly figured on the site, but I never quite understood why?
Anyways, keep up the good work on the page.
