Amid the smoke and mirrors this off season has cast there is doubt and it is justified. You can side with McDaniels (or the organization, as people like to say) or Cutler but you can't pretend there isn't a whole lot that you don't know. There will be a lot of my opinion in this article but the fact is McDaniels and possibly the entire organization has been lying not just to Cutler but to the fans for quite some time. It's as clear as the backpedaling statements, tongue in cheek meetings and the half-hearted optimism that McDaniels has unfolded. Jay Cutler's made poor choices since and may flap his gums too often but he has never given anyone a reason to doubt that every word he breathed was true or at the very least believed to be true. This whole scandal has taken a direction today but is it as clear as the writing on every front page?

The question I have had since last nights statement from Bowlen is, why would you say that? I know the trade value is going to be pretty high no matter what but why even risk lowering it at all let alone what I would say is the equivalent to keying your car before while trying to trade it in, it's not any worse under the hood but the salesman saw you do it and he can't just let it slide. It sounds fishy but it also isn't really beneficial to anyone in my opinion so let's drop it into Bowlen's seemingly endless jar of mistakes made this year.

Today even bigger questions have risen, why is it that Jay or his people say he received none of those calls which Bowlen emphasized as the reason to trade him? I don't believe Jay to be a liar, what does it matter to him though if he is getting the trade he asked for? Did Jay and Bus bluff a trade demand for a contract extension? That makes sense. What doesn't make sense is everything else. If they tried to call him all week why is it that the word I was hearing since the statements by McDaniels that Jay was their QB and wouldn't be traded was that the Broncos were attempting to let things calm down and let cooler heads prevail? If this is true and if Bus Cook did receive the first call in days from Bowlen saying he needed to speak to Cutler, how does him leaving a message and not yet hearing back from Jay himself communicate to Bowlen that Jay has no interest in being a Bronco? If Bowlen hadn't pulled the trigger so quickly this could all be resolved, if the organization had any interest in keeping Jay yesterday this could still be resolved.

The question is now, has there ever from day one of this mess been an interest in keeping Jay Cutler? It is starting to look like McDaniels is wagging the dog. Bowlen is not a great owner to the fan or to the team, he is a great owner to the coach, he makes it so easy to run the ship. Bowlen said this is his team and what has he done? Passed the wheel again. McDaniels is doing what he wants without anyone to answer to and that isn't the change we were supposed to buy into. Jay will play for the Broncos if he is taken off the block, in fact if they wanted to they could play it off as them taming Cutler. No new contract, no more whining, Cutler will have broke and McDaniels will have won. It could even work out as an example that the team is bigger than the player. But that isn't McDaniels endgame, his has always been to get rid of Jay Cutler and install someone he wants for whatever selfish purpose. None of this is what is in the best interest of the team. I started this out as not knowing where I stand but over the course of day I feel as though the picture has become more clear. The trade request being a bluff is obvious with the recent statements from Jay saying he never wanted this to happen, he never thought it would get this far. I can already hear smart ass out there saying well then why did you demand a trade but he expected to be called and after last weeks statements it looked like it was working so why would a guy who was waiting for a call to come, not answer his phone? I'd really like to see those phone records Mr. Bowlen, oh and in detail please. I can't call it a fact but it is my hard belief that last weeks statements were bogus and they wanted to make things look like they were going to be fine, Jay wouldn't call because his bluff was working out, they waited long enough and then made a move in an effort to show they valued Cutler, but couldn't keep him. Which looks now like devaluing him but if in reality they have no interest in keeping him it could in their view be their way of increasing trade value.

It's not over but it doesn't look good, Cutler is my QB and even if he has to leave he'll always be a Bronco, no one will fill his shoes for quite some time. Josh McDaniels is not a Bronco and win or lose he'll never be a Bronco in my eyes.

Wheelin' and Dealin' at the Highest of Prices... (Or the rumor game.)

The truth about this whole rumor business is that it is business, Schefter, Williamson and all the other sports writing spin doctors out there could care less about the truth as long as it can be exciting and/or controversial with just a hint of truth to it. It has been a while since I have written here, well anywhere, due to my move and more truthfully a lack of passion. Last night passion smacked me in the face and maybe someone already said it or perhaps somebody said it better but I've yet to see it and I'm saying it now.

WE KNOW NOTHING!

Which brings me to my next point. This is all Josh McDaniels' fault and not because he might have thought about trading Cutler, (which would be stupid) but because he let whatever matter he was involved in get to the the press without a deal made. If the trade had happened then he would just look stupid but by letting this leak he has made the entire organization look bad and he has put Cutler in an awkward position where he may not feel as though he can play for a man he doesn't trust or respect. McDaniels is showing how inexperienced he is and the heart of the matter is that there are very few things to do about this but none of them has been done.

First thing is first, a press conference or at the very least a meeting with Cutler and the brass followed by a team statement is essential. If that isn't enough, then you stick to your guns if you don't plan on trading the kid show him how much you believe the words that are coming out of your mouth, in the universal language of zeroes, yes contract extensions say I love my quarterback better than anything else does. If these two things don't resolve the issue then Bowlen has a choice, trade your QB and push your Super Bowl expectations back by at least 5 years or fire your coach and well it looks bad but your team is still on the rise and coaches are a dime a dozen anyhow.

What actually happened became irrelevant once the rumor game was played. Whatever happens, Cutler is who I'll side with and I'm sure his teammates feel the same. McDaniels' Wheelin' and Dealin' ways may cost the Broncos the one guy who gave us any hope of winning a championship in the next ten years. Perhaps the right thing will be done though, it needs to happen soon.

As we approach the ninth week of the season 8 teams have reached their halfway point and 24 more teams will play their eighth game of the season thus reaching their halfway point. Oakland Raiders (2-4) @ Baltimore Ravens (3-3)

The Ravens took this game from the get go never allowing the Raiders to get in it.

Final Score: OAK, 10 - BAL, 29

Arizona Cardinals (4-2) @ Carolina Panthers (5-2)

Arizona gave a battle to the Panthers but in the end it was Carolina that was victorious.

Final Score: ARI, 23 - CAR, 27

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-2) @ Dallas Cowboys (4-3)

Tampa Bay didn't give Dallas much but the Buccaneers couldn't find a way to take advantage of their opportunities as well as the Cowboys did.

Final Score: TB, 9 - DAL, 13

Washington Redskins (5-2) @ Detroit Lions (0-6)

Washington didn't thump the Lions but they still got the win in Detroit.

Buffalo Bills (5-1) @ Miami Dolphins (2-4)

Buffalo came into Miami hot but couldn't find a win against the Dolphins who looked strong.

St. Louis Rams (2-4) @ New England Patriots (4-2)

St. Louis put up a fight in New England but in the end the Patriots were able to out last the Rams.

San Diego Chargers (3-4) @ New Orleans Saints (3-4)

London got quite the show as the Saints and Chargers lit up the scoreboard, when all was said and done New Orleans was on top.

Kansas City Chiefs (1-5) @ New York Jets (3-3)

The Chiefs actually played admirably but the Jets were a bit better on Sunday.

Atlanta Falcons (4-2) @ Philadelphia Eagles (3-3)

Atlanta couldn't find a way to fly with the Eagles and ended up losing their third game.

The Browns found a way to squeak by the Jaguars and earn their third win of the season.

Cincinnati Bengals (0-7) @ Houston Texans (2-4)

The Texans continued a season long tradition, they stomped the Bengals.

New York Giants (5-1) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (5-1)

New York found a way to out last the Steelers and remain on top of the NFC East.

Seattle Seahawks (1-5) @ San Francisco 49ers (2-5)

Seattle took advantage of a rare opportunity, a weaker opponent than them, and earned their second win.

Monday, October 27th

Indianapolis Colts (3-3) @ Tennessee Titans (6-0)

Tennessee has been on top of the NFL for 8 weeks now and they found a way to remain on top by beating the Colts.

Final Score: IND, 21 - TEN, 31

Midseason Revaluation (Part 1 of 2)

Prior to the kickoff of the season I made my full season predictions based on what I knew, or thought I knew, about the teams going into the season. This week I went back and looked at the games I originally predicted and what actually happened and how the changes effected each team's season thus far. Eight teams reached the half way point this week so they could be revaluated next week all 32 teams will have reached it and will be revaluated.

Game of the Week

The first score of the game came midway through the first quarter when Neil Rackers hammered a 21 yard field goal following a 13 play, 80 yard drive to make the score 3-0 for Arizona. Early in the second quarter a Jake Delhomme fumble gave the Cardinals position for a quick 5 yard touchdown pass from Kurt Warner to Anquan Boldin to boost their lead to 10-0. The Panthers wouldn't be shut out in the first half and took the ball 72 yards in 14 plays to give John Kasay the 23 yard field goal making the game 3-10 Carolina.

The third quarter would begin with an 8 play, 64 yard drive resulting in a 2 yard touchdown run by Tim Hightower putting the score at 17-3 for Arizona. The Panthers responded by driving 80 yards in 6 plays to reach the endzone after a 15 yard touchdown run by DeAngelo Williams to make it 10-17 for Carolina. An Edgerrin James fumble allowed the Panthers to tie the game at 17 with a quick 18 yard touchdown pass from Jake Delhomme to Steve Smith. Arizona would snap right back with an 11 play, 78 yard drive resulting in a 2 yard Warner to Boldin touchdown pass, after an aborted kick the score became 23-17 Arizona. The Panthers took their first lead right away with a 3 play, 73 yard drive capped off with a 65 yard Delhomme touchdown pass to Smith, 24-23. The only score of the fourth quarter came off a Kasay 50 yard field goal to make the final score 27-23, Carolina wins.

Arizona played well and while some mistakes cost them they were just outplayed but not by much. The Panthers played a great game but also made some costly mistakes not enough to overcome them though. Both teams are dangerous and hard to outscore and should find success through the rest of the season.

Week 9 - Who's in It and Who's Gonna Win It

Sunday, November 2nd

Green Bay Packers (4-3) @ Tennessee Titans (7-0)

The Packers are coming off their bye week and the Titans are looking for their 8th win and continuation of their undefeated season. Green Bay needs the win to maintain their close race in the NFC North but Tennessee is on fire and there is no reason to believe they will lose this game at home.

Predicted Winner: Tennessee Titans

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-3) @ Kansas City Chiefs (1-6)

Tampa Bay was beat in a close game with Dallas and the Chiefs were edged by the Jets in a tough one as well. The Buccaneers are playing well and shouldn't be beat by a team like Kansas City even if they have improved and are at home.

Predicted Winner: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Baltimore Ravens (4-3) @ Cleveland Browns (3-4)

Baltimore put a hurting on Oakland on Sunday and hope to do the same to Cleveland who were able to squeak by Jacksonville. The Ravens are good but I'm not sure that they are better than the Browns can be on any given Sunday, this one should be a Cleveland Sunday.

Detroit Lions (0-7) @ Chicago Bears (4-3)

Detroit put up a fight against Washington but now they face a rested Bears team at home. Chicago should find no trouble laying out the Lions on Sunday.

New York Jets (4-3) @ Buffalo Bills (5-2)

New York edged out Kansas City on Sunday but should find it more difficult going into Buffalo. The Jets are good and while the Bills took a fall against Miami they are still the class of the AFC East.

Predicted Winner: Buffalo Bills

Jacksonville Jaguars (3-4) @ Cincinnati Bengals (0-8)

Jacksonville dropped a close one to the Browns now they go to Cincinnati to face the 0-8 Bengals. Jacksonville should be able to blow the Bengals away.

Predicted Winner: Jacksonville Jaguars

Houston Texans (3-4) @ Minnesota Vikings (3-4)

Houston embarrassed the Bengals on Sunday and they head to Minnesota to play the rested Vikings. Minnesota could be a top team but they are not playing up to potential and the Texans finally are.

Predicted Winner: Houston Texans

Arizona Cardinals (4-3) @ St. Louis Rams (2-5)

Arizona barely lost to the Panthers and they will face St. Louis who almost beat New England. The Rams have been playing very well but the Cardinals have been playing better.

Predicted Winner: Arizona Cardinals

Miami Dolphins (3-4) @ Denver Broncos (4-3)

Miami got a huge win over the Bills on Sunday and now they face a rested Broncos team. Denver has been beaten and bruised but I think they will be ready to get back in the saddle after a bit of rest and a huge gift from London.

Predicted Winner: Denver Broncos

Atlanta Falcons (4-3) @ Oakland Raiders (2-5)

Atlanta took a loss against the Eagles but this week they are headed to face a floundering Oakland team. The Raiders don't look ready to beat many teams and the Falcons look ready to beat plenty of teams.

Predicted Winner: Atlanta Falcons

Dallas Cowboys (5-3) @ New York Giants (6-1)

The Cowboys are coming off a win over Tampa Bay and headed to New York to face the 6-1 Giants. Dallas needs this win to stay in the race for the division but with the play of Brad Johnson at quarterback it's not a likely win.

Philadelphia Eagles (4-3) @ Seattle Seahawks (2-5)

Philadelphia flew past Atlanta and will have to head to Seattle to face the lowly Seahawks. The Eagles shouldn't even break a sweat beating the Seahawks.

New England Patriots (5-2) @ Indianapolis Colts (3-3)

The once great rivalry looks a bit dull today but the Patriots will face the Colts. New England should be able to beat Indianapolis but I have to go with Peyton Manning being the difference in this one.

Monday, November 3rd

Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2) @ Washington Redskins (6-2)

Pittsburgh is coming off a tough loss to the Giants and they won't find an easy win in Washington. The Redskins seem to find a way to make every game close, I don't know why with some lower opponents but I still expect them to pull out the win over the Steelers.

Predicted Winner: Washington Redskins

The Ten

Tennessee Titans (7-0) [Last week: 1] - Beating Indianapolis must have felt great, being four games up on their division must feel better.
New York Giants (6-1) [Last week: 2] - They survived a tough test by beating the Steelers.
Carolina Panthers (6-2) [Last week: 6] - Made a heck of a comeback to beat Arizona.
Washington Redskins (6-2) [Last week: 7] - Continue to breathe down New York's neck.
Buffalo Bills (5-2) [Last week: 3] - Losing to the Dolphins could comeback to bite them with the Patriots making their way back up the ladder.
Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2) [Last week: 4] - Their loss to the Giants shouldn't be the biggest setback.
Arizona Cardinals (4-3) [Last week: 5] - They looked good losing to Carolina, they won't be down long.
New England Patriots (5-2) [Last week: 10] - Continued to roll against the Rams next they will face the Colts.
Atlanta Falcons (4-3) [Last week: 8] - Losing to Philly hurt them but they should land on their feet.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-3) [Last week: 9] - They found trouble against Dallas but they can still be a force in the NFC South.

The Ten is based on performance and strength of opponent, positioning on the list is taken into account as teams rise and fall.

Hero of the Week

The New Orleans Saints have had a tough year thus far but not for lack of talent, the Saints have had a tough schedule and they have faced it with a pass first mentality. Drew Brees has been giving the team a whole lot to work with as far as accuracy and arm strength go and he has lead the team well.

The Saints held their home game against the Chargers on neutral field this past week in London. The Chargers gave them a heck of a fight matching them on most occasions but Brees' accuracy was the big difference over Philip Rivers and why the Saints were able to win.

Drew Brees is the type of play maker this team needs and the type of leader that will always be needed and that is why he is the Hero of the Week.

Seven weeks down, ten weeks to go in the regular season. The Titans remain unbeaten and six teams reached their fifth win of the season. As we approach the eighth week of the season eight teams will play their eighth game of the season thus reaching their halfway point. Yes the season is wearing but there is still plenty of time for most teams to turn it around and by the same edge fall from grace. Sunday, October 19th

San Diego Chargers (3-3) @ Buffalo Bills (4-1)

The game between San Diego and Buffalo offered quite a show, even through the blackouts. The Chargers effort was impressive for sure and they were able to stick with Buffalo most of the game, turn overs may have made the biggest difference in their fortune. The Bills were led valiantly by quarterback Trent Edwards who came back after leaving their last game with an injury, their defense was also impressive as they help seal the victory.

Final Score: SD, 14 - BUF, 23

New Orleans Saints (3-3) @ Carolina Panthers (4-2)

After a disappointing loss last week the Carolina Panthers came back hungry for the win as they hosted the Saints. New Orleans have had their ups and downs but probably didn't imagine being pummeled like they were on Sunday.

Minnesota Vikings (3-3) @ Chicago Bears (3-3)

In what was expected to be more of a defensive struggle we saw the defenses struggle to hold the offenses. Minnesota had been playing better after a rough start to the season and Chicago have struggled to find a rhythm but have had amazing defense and some surprising offensive prowess, the Bears had a bit more gas in the tank this time.

Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1) @ Cincinnati Bengals (0-6)

Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are on opposite paths and this game magnified that. The Bengals are the AFC's worst team, they just can't get any momentum. The Steelers looked great in this one and improved their record to 5-1 which is standing pretty tall with only one undefeated team left in the NFL.

Tennessee Titans (5-0) @ Kansas City Chiefs (1-4)

Speaking of undefeated, the Titans rolled into Kansas City this past week and took on the hapless Chiefs. Tennessee is still blazing hot with Kerry Collins at quarterback and they show no signs of stopping. Kansas City is in desperate need of a spark and this surely wasn't the place to find it.

Baltimore Ravens (2-3) @ Miami Dolphins (2-3)

A week after being picked apart by the Colts, the Ravens were ready to get back on track against the Dolphins. Baltimore got back to playing great defense and the offense showed up. Miami needs to figure out how to create a great game plan for each team they play or they will keep struggling.

San Francisco 49ers (2-4) @ New York Giants (4-1)

The 49ers went to New York hoping to pull off an upset over the Giants. The Giants waited, ready to prove they weren't falling apart after last weeks loss to the Browns. The Giants came away with the victory but still seem to have quite a bit to work on

Dallas Cowboys (4-2) @ St. Louis Rams (1-4)

Dallas entered their first game of the season without Tony Romo under center trying to get a win over the Rams who had a rough start until getting their first win last week over the red hot Redskins. Dallas struggled as much as Brad Johnson did and they never got in sync. St. Louis looked like a machine out there and if this is a sign of things to come then the Cardinals finally have something to worry about in the NFC West.

Detroit Lions (0-5) @ Houston Texans (1-4)

The worst team in the NFC, Detroit, came into Houston to take on the Texans. The Texans had been struggling but were coming off their first win of the season over Miami. Detroit is playing for a draft pick and doing a heck of a job.

Indianapolis Colts (3-2) @ Green Bay Packers (3-3)

Just when you thought it was safe to say the Colts are back, they fall apart again and this is not a minor defect this team is not a very good team anymore. The Packers will continue to have their ups and downs but this was a big win for them .

New York Jets (3-2) @ Oakland Raiders (1-4)

The Jets entered the black hole looking to keep up with the Bills in the AFC East with a win over the Raiders. Oakland was simply looking for the elusive, a rare win. New York forced overtime but a huge kick by Sebastian Janikowski sealed the victory for Oakland.

Cleveland Browns (2-3) @ Washington Redskins (4-2)

The Browns were coming off of a big win over the Giants and were looking to take another from Washington. The Redskins blew their last home game dropping one to St. Louis. In the end the Skins had just enough to hold off Cleveland.

Seattle Seahawks (1-4) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2)

Seattle stumbled into Tampa Bay with Seneca Wallace as their starting quarterback. The Buccaneers needed to win to keep up with the strong NFC South. The Seahawks were overmatched as usual and the Bucs continued to roll.

Monday, October 20th

Denver Broncos (4-2) @ New England Patriots (3-2)

The Broncos came into this game with a gift from Buffalo who defeated the Chargers on Sunday and the Patriots came in knowing they needed to win to keep up with those same Bills. The Broncos dug their own grave with numerous turnovers and stupid penalties while the Patriots capitalized on the mistakes and played cutthroat football the whole game disrespecting the Broncos defense and rightfully so. Denver heads into the bye week in need of healing so that is the lone blessing.

Actual Winner: New England Patriots (4-2)

Final Score: DEN, 7 - NE, 41

San Diego found themselves heading to Buffalo after a big win over the Patriots the week before. The Bills came off their bye week after losing Trent Edwards in their last game and losing their first game The first quarter kicked off and after stopping the Chargers first drive the Bills drew first blood with a 9 play, 52 yard drive that resulted in a 38 yard field goal by Rian Lindell to give them a 3-0 lead. The Chargers wouldn't let that stand for long as they took the next drive 78 yards with 11 plays culminating in a 14 yard pass from Philip Rivers to Malcom Floyd for a touchdown giving them the lead 7-3. and the last score of the first quarter.

The second quarter began and the Bills would find the end zone after a fumble recovery put them in position for a 7 play, 38 yard drive that ended with a 2 yard toss from Trent Edwards to Lee Evans for the touchdown and the 10-7 lead. After a three and out the Bills would drive 10 plays for 59 yards to give Lindell his second field goal of the day this time a 27 yarder with 16 seconds left in the half. The score going into halftime would be 13-7 in the Bills favor.

The third quarter would see the Chargers score first with a 12 play, 80 yard drive that finished with a 12 yard touchdown pass from Rivers to Vincent Jackson giving the Chargers the lead 14-13. The lead would be short lived thanks to a Bills 9 play, 78 yard drive resulting in a 9 yard run by Marshawn Lynch for a touchdown making the score 20-14. The fourth quarter would start off slow but thanks to Rivers' throwing an interception the Bills drove 43 yards in 7 plays to give Lindell a 44 yard field goal to make it 23-14. A subsequent Chargers lost fumble sealed the game and the Bills' victory.

The Chargers played well but while they probably would have lost anyway they didn't help themselves with their turnovers. The Bills were the better team on the field and they won't be outplayed often especially with Trent Edwards under center. The Chargers will have their good days but the Bills will have them constantly.

Week 8 - Who's in It and Who's Gonna Win It

Sunday, October 26th

Oakland Raiders (2-4) @ Baltimore Ravens (3-3)

The Raiders are coming off a pretty big win over the Jets but may find themselves in trouble in Baltimore. The Ravens are also coming off a big win over Miami and should be ready to school Oakland.

Arizona Cardinals (4-2) @ Carolina Panthers (5-2)

Arizona is coming off the bye after playing great for awhile now and they are heading in to a tough match in Carolina. The Panthers are playing very well but will need to bring their "A game" to beat these Cardinals, I think they'll pull it off.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-2) @ Dallas Cowboys (4-3)

Tampa Bay has remained strong to stay on top in the NFC South and they head into Dallas hoping to continue that trend. The Cowboys looked terrible without Romo and Pacman last week and Brad Johnson will need to step up if they even want to sniff a win but the Buccaneers should come out on top.

Washington Redskins (5-2) @ Detroit Lions (0-6)

Washington is closing in on the Giants and this week is a huge opportunity for them to move up as New York will have a tough game later on. The Detroit Lions are not beating anyone the way they've been playing much less the Redskins.

Buffalo Bills (5-1) @ Miami Dolphins (2-4)

Buffalo is hot and they are not going to let up anytime soon but they may be surprised to find a fight in Miami. The Dolphins have struggled the past two weeks and probably will not right themselves here but it could be a good game against the Bills.

St. Louis Rams (2-4) @ New England Patriots (4-2)

St. Louis is turning up the heat as of late and went from looking like the worst to looking like a contender, the contenders will need to show up in New England. The Patriots are coming off a game where they destroyed the Broncos and they should be prepared to face a tougher Rams team and come away with a win.

San Diego Chargers (3-4) @ New Orleans Saints (3-4)

San Diego hasn't been able to find any rhythm as they head to London to face the Saints. New Orleans have also seen their share of tough games and will need to play their best to beat San Diego, the Saints should be ready.

Kansas City Chiefs (1-5) @ New York Jets (3-3)

Kansas City is falling apart at the seams and they will be tumbling into New York this week. The Jets found themselves on the losing end of an overtime kick last week and hope to turn it around at home.

Atlanta Falcons (4-2) @ Philadelphia Eagles (3-3)

Atlanta should be ready to continue flying after their bye week and this week they land in Philadelphia. The Eagles should be ready to continue their success after their bye as well but only one team can win, and I'd have to go with the Eagles at home.

Cleveland Browns (2-4) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3)

Cleveland dropped a tough one to Washington last week and will find themselves in another battle in Jacksonville. The Jaguars beat Denver before the bye and are still trying to stay in the race for the AFC South, I'll have to go with the Jags over the Browns this week.

Cincinnati Bengals (0-7) @ Houston Texans (2-4)

The Bengals boast the worst record in the league and could finish the first half of the season winless coming home from Houston. The Texans just beat the other winless team last week and should be ready for Cincinnati and improve their record with their third straight win.

New York Giants (5-1) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (5-1)

New York is heading into Pittsburgh looking to staying a game ahead of the Redskins. The Steelers are going to need to take it to the Giants to win their sixth game of the season, expect the Steelers to pull through.

Seattle Seahawks (1-5) @ San Francisco 49ers (2-5)

The Seahawks are one of the teams struggling the most this season and they will be heading to San Francisco where all is not right. The 49ers will need to be ready to move under new coach Mike Singletary to hold off a desperate Seattle team, but I expect them to do it.

Monday, October 27th

Indianapolis Colts (3-3) @ Tennessee Titans (6-0)

Indianapolis has a chance to be the first team to beat Tennessee. The Titans have reversed the roles and have become the team to beat in the AFC South, this should be a heck of a game but I think the Titans get their seventh win of the season over the Colts.

New York Giants (5-1) [Last week: 2] - They got past the 49ers but can't let their guard down with the Steelers on their plate.

Pittsburgh Steelers (5-1) [Last week: 6] - The way they destroyed the Bengals was impressive but they have a real test in the Giants.
Arizona Cardinals (4-2) [Last week: 3] - The bye week brought them a challenge in Carolina.
Carolina Panthers (5-2) [Last week: 8] - They pounded the Saints and must be ready for a tough one against the Cardinals.
Washington Redskins (5-2) [Last week: 9] - Escaped with a win over Cleveland and will go to Detroit this week.
Atlanta Falcons (4-2) [Last week: 10] - After the bye they find themselves headed to Philadelphia for a tough match.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-2) [Last week: Unranked] - They handled Seattle and now must prove themselves further in Dallas.
New England Patriots (4-2) [Last week: Unranked] - Dismantling Denver was their first step now they have to stop a rolling Rams team.

The Ten is based on performance and strength of opponent, positioning on the list is taken into account as teams rise and fall.

Hero of the Week

Steven Jackson and the Rams have had one rough start and they lost a head coach in the process. They lost to some of the best teams and one of the worst and they looked bad losing. Jackson himself struggled and nothing looked to be changing for the better.

The Rams went to Washington two weeks ago to face the hottest team at the time and came out on top. This week they met the Dallas Cowboys and were able to pick them apart, Jackson ran for 160 yards and rushed for three touchdowns which accounted for more than half of the Rams 34 points and was more than enough to beat Dallas.

Steven Jackson played like the player this team needed and more importantly he led like the leader this team needed and that is why he is the Hero of the Week.

While the Titans should be ecstatic about their early lead over the ret of the league there is still a whole lot of football to be played. Atlanta has been quite impressive, especially at home and this was no exception. The Bears deserve a win as much as any team this week but they will have to concede to being slightly outplayed by the Falcons.

Miami Dolphins (2-2) @ Houston Texans (0-4)

Baltimore couldn't have surprised me more than they did by being utterly ineffective against the less than stellar Colts. They made the Colts look like a great team again, the question we'll all have to wait for an answer to is, are they?

Detroit certainly put up more of a fight than I expected while the Vikings were underwhelming. Detroit still needs a lot of work while the Vikings could gain a lot from being more consistent.

Jeff Garcia led the Buccaneers admirably as they hosted the Panthers. Carolina really never got off the ground against Tampa Bay and lost their hold on the lead in the NFC South.

St. Louis Rams (0-4) @ Washington Redskins (4-1)

The Rams coming in seemed hopeless and their chances of luck seem nil with Washington looking like the last place anyone would want to be. Washington came home red hot after two amazing road wins and they stunned their fans by playing far more mediocre ball and dropping the win to the Rams.

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3) @ Denver Broncos (4-1)

Jacksonville found a happy place in Denver where the Broncos would give up their first loss at home of the season. Denver never found a rhythm on offense or defense for that matter and they will need to step it up big to beat the Patriots in primetime.

Dallas Cowboys (4-1) @ Arizona Cardinals (3-2)

Dallas and Arizona struggled against each other all game and nothing more important could be taken away from it than the way it ended two teams struggling to win and each finding a way to do that, only one can win but both deserved it.

Philadelphia Eagles (2-3) @ San Francisco 49ers (2-3)

The Eagles didn't simply fly through San Francisco but they did escape with a most needed win. The Niners have been a tough bunch to kick so far but they still get the wind knocked out of them, more often than not.

Aaron Rodgers came back with a strong performance against the Seahawks. The Seahawks still can't seem to get off the ground and they weren't met with any help by the Packers.

Monday, October 13th

New York Giants (4-0) @ Cleveland Browns (1-3)

Derek Anderson and the Browns needed to wake up sometime, they picked a good time to make a statement by becoming the first team to beat the reigning Superbowl Champions. The Giants couldn't get into it in the second half a nd they were losing after the first was over.

Actual Winner: Cleveland Browns (2-3)

Game of the Week

The suprisingly good Falcons returned home after a big road win in Green Bay to face the fairly good offense and tremendous defense of the Bears. Early in the first quarter Atlanta set the pace by going 48 yards in ten plays allowing Jason Elam to knock a 29 yard kick through the uprights to make the score 3-0 for the Falcons. Later in the quarter the Falcons would drive 49 yards in eleven plays to set up another Elam kick this time a 48 yard boot to raise their lead 6-0.

The second quarter started off slow before Elam managed another kick for 32 yards to make the score 9-0 for the Falcons. The Bears would respond with an eight play 51 yard that would ultimately culminate with a Robbie Gould 36 yard field goal kick to get the Bears on the scoreboard 3-9. The third quarter scoring got underway pretty quickly with Elam kicking a 41 yarder for another three points after an eight play 56 yard drive making it 12-3. The Bears would answer quickly this time after a 14 play, 82 yard drive ended with the first touchdown of the game thanks to a 3 yard rush by Matt Forte to put the score at 10-12.

Shortly after the fourth quarter began the Falcons shot back with a ten play, 76 yard drive resulted in a 3 yard touchdown pass from Matt Ryan to Roddy White to make it 19-10. With 4 minutes left in the game Gould booted a 32 yard field goal following a 9 play, 40 yard drive. The Falcons would get into position for Elam to kick a 33 yard field goal to seal the game but he misses it. The Bears have 2 minutes and 43 seconds left to go 77 yards and get the game winning touchdown, they do it after eleven plays culminated in a 17 yard touchdown pass from Kyle Orton to Rashied Davis with 11 seconds left on the clock. Bears win in exciting fashion wait... No? A five second 10 yard kickoff return to the ATL 44 left six seconds on the clock. Matt Ryan throws it to Michael Jenkins who hauls it in 26 yards later before stepping out of bounds with 1 second left on the clock. Jason Elam takes the field for a 48 yard kick that would sail through the uprights and give Atlanta the win that almost got away.

The Bears played a heck of a game including a great comeback and one that without the win may seem disheartening but 99 times out of 100 if you make that comeback you get the W. Atlanta can't lose sight of the fact that they shouldn't have had to make that one in a million miracle comeback but they have to be proud that pulled it off. The Falcons are right in the mix as are the Bears and both teams have a legitamite shot in their divisions.

Week 7 - Who's in It and Who's Gonna Win It

Sunday, October 19th

San Diego Chargers (3-3) @ Buffalo Bills (4-1)

San Diego is coming off a big win over the Patriots and the Bills are coming off the bye and their only loss of the season. There is no doubt this game should be a tight one but Buffalo should find a way to come out on top.

Predicted Winner: Buffalo Bills

New Orleans Saints (3-3) @ Carolina Panthers (4-2)

New Orleans still may be the best team in this division yet but they are last nonetheless. Carolina looked pretty bad last week against Tampa Bay but they are still going to be tough to beat at home maybe even more so after being embarrassed by them.

Predicted Winner: Carolina Panthers

Minnesota Vikings (3-3) @ Chicago Bears (3-3)

Minnesota can be strong but are also very inconsistent. The Bears have been beatable but they are always a threat. Don't expect Chicago to roll over at home and don't expect average play by the Vikings to be enough.

Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1) @ Cincinnati Bengals (0-6)

The Bengals been tough to beat at times but they still can't find a win. The Steelers have been underwhelming in a few games but mostly find a way to win. Don't expect the Cincinnati losing streak to end here.

Tennessee Titans (5-0) @ Kansas City Chiefs (1-4)

The Titans come in on top of the NFL as the last undefeated team. The Chiefs only win came against the previously undefeated Broncos. The Chiefs may play better at home but don't expect them to beat two undefeated teams in one year, especially not this year.

Baltimore Ravens (2-3) @ Miami Dolphins (2-3)

Baltimore looked terrible against the Colts who finally seemed to get rolling. The Dolphins couldn't find their third straight win against the Texans but still looked good. Expect the Ravens defense to keep Miami in check this week.

San Francisco 49ers (2-4) @ New York Giants (4-1)

The Niners have played admirably in recent weeks but are still nothing more than average. The Giants took their first loss since winning the Superbowl and should be hungry to win again.

Dallas will struggle without Romo leading them but even though the Redskins let the Rams through I expect Dallas to come in more prepared. The Rams got their first win over the hottest team in the NFL at the time and they should play with extra swagger. Expect Dallas to pull through on the road.

Houston is coming off their first win after playing well for a few weeks and they should be excited to host Detroit, God's answer to a gimme. The Lions should be thinking this is one of their best shots to win but, in the end it should be another disappointment.

Indianapolis Colts (3-2) @ Green Bay Packers (3-3)

The Colts just might be back to form and their is no better way of knowing than a pretty strong matchup against the Packers. Green Bay got back on track last week and they will do their best to keep it up.

New York Jets (3-2) @ Oakland Raiders (1-4)

The Jets have been playing fairly well lately, better as the Titans of New York. Oakland hasn't looked nearly as good since Cable took over for Kiffin. Don't expect much from the Raiders here or anytime soon.

Cleveland Browns (2-3) @ Washington Redskins (4-2)

The Browns got a big win over the Giants and they will now try to slap it into a streak against the Redskins. The Redskins looked unbeatable until they went back home and it will be interesting to see how Washington bounces back.

Seattle Seahawks (1-4) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2)

Seattle hasn't been impressive this season and that is an understatement. The Buccaneers couldn't possibly find this game to be tougher than those in their recent past. Don't expect the Bucs to get shipwrecked in this one.

Monday, October 20th

Denver Broncos (4-2) @ New England Patriots (3-2)

The Broncos opened the season with fireworks on Monday night and it would be nothing short of perfect to head into the bye doing it again. The Patriots lost to San Diego last week and need to get back on the saddle. Expect the Broncos to turn up the volume in this one.

The Ten

Tennessee Titans (5-0) [Last week: 2] - Find themselves the lone undefeated team after the bye week.
New York Giants (4-1) [Last week: 1] - They got shocked by Cleveland, let's see how they respond.
Arizona Cardinals (4-2) [Last week: 9] - Putting down the Bills and the Cowboys in back to back weeks is no easy feat, they also hurt the starting quarterbacks.
Buffalo Bills (4-1) [Last week: 7] - Buffalo needs to rebound with or without QB Edwards.
Dallas Cowboys (4-2) [Last week: 3] - Arizona's Insult and Injury tour came through and Dallas needs to get back to winning despite their woes.
Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1) [Last week: 8] - A week off only brought an even more wide open league.
Denver Broncos (4-2) [Last week: 4] - Need to put on a show on Monday night if they don't want to let San Diego right back in the race.
Carolina Panthers (4-2) [Last week: 5] - Got pounded by Tampa Bay and are stuck in a huge divisional tie.
Washington Redskins (4-2) [Last week: 6] - Falling at home to St. Louis was a major disappointment.
Atlanta Falcons (4-2) [Last week: Unranked] - No team had a more amazing week and they have been hot.

The Ten is based on performance and strength of opponent, positioning on the list is taken into account as teams rise and fall.

Hero of the Week

Matt Schaub hasn't had a whole lot to smile about so far this season, his team hasn't been able to win, even when he gets them going full steam they faulter. Last week he had to ride the bench as he was sick and his backup couldn't help but blow the game late.

The Dolphins were looking to get an extra step in the AFC East after winning to big games against the Patriots and the Chargers. The Texans were able to keep the Dolphins and Ronnie Brown fairly honest for most game and in the end Matt Schaub's strong but far from mistake free performance was capped off by an amazing drive that culminated in a fourth and 2 at the 3 being scrambled into the endzone by the tough quarterback.

Matt Schaub took the Texans from the verge of losing and when all else failed he put the fate of the game on his shoulders and took it in himself and that is why he is the Hero of the Week.

Tennessee Titans (4-0) @ Baltimore Ravens (2-1)

The Titans came in hot but to beat the Ravens you need to play a defensive game it wasn't clear that they were ready for. The Ravens despite their great defense couldn't possibly be ready if this game became an offensive battle. It came down to defense and despite the Ravens effort the Titans proved they were ready if only enough to squeek by.

Kansas City Chiefs (1-3) @ Carolina Panthers (3-1)

The Chiefs came into this game with higher expectations from their fans and of themselves after beating Denver a week prior. Carolina was ready for a game and they might have actually been surprised, this wasn't the Kansas City that beat Denver. The Panthers shut out the once again hapless Chiefs and now are in sole possession of first place in the NFC South.

Chicago Bears (2-2) @ Detroit Lions (0-3)

Chicago came in hoping to welcome the Lions back from their bye with a familiar sound at home, booing. The Lions were hoping they could begin the post-Millen era with a win. The Bears left Michigan with smiles on their faces as they trounced the Lions and now stand alone at the top of the NFC North.

Atlanta Falcons (2-2) @ Green Bay Packers (2-2)

The Falcons' road struggles needed to be put behind them to win in Green Bay. The Packers needed to get back on track to stay with the Bears in the NFC North. Atlanta sure looked to be right at home in Green Bay as they played well and left with the win.

Indianapolis Colts (1-2) @ Houston Texans (0-3)

Two struggling teams met up in the reopening of Reliant Stadium, each hoping to get back on track. The Texans were without Matt Schaub but seemed to be getting the most out of Sage Rosenfels. The Colts looked like they were on the verge of another disappointing loss but they made an impressive comeback and left Houston scratching their heads again.

San Diego Chargers (2-2) @ Miami Dolphins (1-2)

San Diego was looking for a chance to get closer to the top where Denver stands and they would be taking on the Dolphins. The Dolphins have made strides and after beating New England they were hoping to get a streak going by defeating the other team of last years AFC Championship game. The Dolphins made that hope a reality and San Diego's downward spiral continue.

Seattle Seahawks (1-2) @ New York Giants (3-0)

The Seahawk came in as a sputtering team off it's bye week. The Giants came off their bye as the undefeated Superbowl Champions. The conclusion was no surprise as the Giants massacred Seattle to stay undefeated.

Washington Redskins (3-1) @ Philadelphia Eagles (2-2)

Despite beating the Cowboys last week many people percieved the Redskins to be underdogs. The Eagles came off their loss to Chicago needing a win to keep up in the NFC East. Washington overcame an early deficit to make believers out of the Eagles.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1) @ Denver Broncos (3-1)

Brian Griese came into Denver on Sunday hoping to beat his former team and not make the mistakes he became famous for while playing there. The Broncos wanted to remove the stench of last weeks loss in Kansas City. The Broncos defense made an impact in this game and all of Denver hopes it is a sign of things to come. Griese most likely left Denver like he did the last time he was here, without a starting job. Jeff Garcia replaced Griese after Griese took a Champ Bailey knock out punch. Denver came out with the win but with some pretty serious injuries that could sideline Eddie Royal and Tony Scheffler for a few weeks.

Final Score: TB, 13 - DEN, 16

Buffalo Bills (4-0) @ Arizona Cardinals (2-2)

The Bills have been hot and they came into Arizona looking to get their fifth win of the season. The Cardinals had just been embarrased by the Titans of New York (aka the Jets) a week prior. The Cardinals made a statement by stomping the Bills who had to play most of the game with backup quarterback J.P. Losman after Trent Edwards went out early with a concussion.

Predicted Winner: Buffalo Bills

Actual Winner: Arizona Cardinals (3-2)

Final Score: BUF, 17 - ARI, 41

Cincinnati Bengals (0-4) @ Dallas Cowboys (3-1)

The Bengals didn't look like a 0-4 team going at the Cowboys, much like their close loss to the Giants a couple weeks ago. Dallas almost let this game slip away but they managed to reel it in late and get their fourth win of the season.

Final Score: CIN, 22 - DAL, 31

New England Patriots (2-1) @ San Francisco 49ers (2-2)

The Patriots went into San Francisco looking to bounce back from an embarrassing loss to Miami. The 49ers were looking to rebound after a loss to New Orleans. Both teams need a lot of work but the better team is still Cassel's Patriots.

Actual Winner: New England Patriots (3-1)

Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2)

Pittsburgh wanted another big one in prime time to boost them up. The Jaguars were trying to catch up with the Titans in the AFC South. The Steelers were able to take one away from Jacksonville and now are in a comfortable lead in the AFC North.

Predicted Winner: Jacksonville Jaguars

Actual Winner: Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1)

Monday, October 6th

Minnesota Vikings (1-3) @ New Orleans Saints (2-2)

Minnesota entered this game seemingly too inconsistent to keep up with an offense like New Orleans boasted. The Saints looked to stick with the rest of the NFC South in pursuit of Carolina. Despite not one but two impressive Reggie Bush punt returns for touchdowns the Saints fell to the Vikings who put together some impressive plays on both sides of the ball.

Predicted Winner: New Orleans Saints

Actual Winner: Minnesota Vikings (2-3)

Final Score: MIN, 30 - NO, 27

In another amazing NFC East showdown the Redskins arrived in Philadelphia after a tough upset win in Dallas, the Eagles were ready to put their loss to Chicago behind them by taking it to the Redskins. The Eagles would draw first blood on the opening possesion of the first quarter after a 12 play, 80 yard drive resulted in a 9 yard Brian Westbrook touchdown scamper to give the Eagles a 7-0 edge. Following that drive the Eagles would force a three and out leading to an electric 68 yard punt return touchdown by DeSean Jackson which buried the Redskins early at 0-14. The rest of the only other offensive drive for the Eagles in the first half would result in a missed 50 yard field goal by David Akers and that was the extent of the Redskins luck in the first quarter.

The second quarter began and Washington capped off an 8 play 37 yard drive with a 41 yard field goal by Shaun Suisham to bring the score to 3-14. After letting one big pass go by the Redskins forced a three and out and began an eight minute, 15 play drive for 67 yards that resulted in another Suisham field goal this time from 48 yards, 6-14. With less than two minutes left the Redskins forced another three and out and lead a quick 9 play, 50 yard drive that resulted in Suisham third field goal kick of the game from 50 yards out leaving the score at the half at 9-14.

The second half began and on their second possesion of the third quarter the Redskins would finally find the endzone and take the lead after a 7 play, 75 yard drive that culminated in an 18 yard pass to Chris Cooley by wid e receiver Antwaan Randle El leaving the score at 16-14. The score would hold until the second play of the fourth quarter when Clinton Portis hit paydirt with a 4 yard rush after a 6 play, 43 yard drive making the score 23-14. The Eagles would drive the field 86 yards in 12 plays only to settle for a 23 yard Akers field goal drawing Philadelphia closer at 17-23. With 7 minutes and 18 seconds left on the clock the Redskins impressively made sure the Eagles wouldn't get another chance as they wore the clock down in one possession to end the game.

The Eagles can't help but be dissapointed with this loss after setting such a good tone early but they were out coached and outplayed by a superior team. Washington has to be seen as one of the most dangerous teams in the NFL with the no quit attitude that got them through this game even after being dominated early on. These teams have a lot of good days ahead of them but the way Washington is playing they have the ability to go deep in the playoffs, they just have to keep it up.

Week 6 - Who's in It and Who's Gonna Win It

Sunday, October 12th

Chicago Bears (3-2) @ Atlanta Falcons (3-2)

This is a tough one to call as the Falcons have not only been impressive at home they are coming off a big road win out of Green Bay. The Bears have been no picnic for opposing teams either winning some tough games. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Atlanta has enough in them to beat Chicago.

Miami Dolphins (2-2) @ Houston Texans (0-4)

To say the Dolphins have been impressive as of late may be an understatement as they have beat both teams of last year's AFC Championship game in the past three weeks. The Texans suffered another close loss last week in a heart breaker to the Colts. As much as the Texans need a win the Dolphins are hot without a question and that shouldn't stop in Houston.

Predicted Winner: Miami Dolphins

Baltimore Ravens (2-2) @ Indianapolis Colts (2-2)

Baltimore came up just short in the battle with the still undefeated Titans last week. Indianapolis came up with a big comeback to beat the still winless Texans. The Colts are not the perennial playoff team we've all known for so long and the Ravens shouldn't have too much trouble with them on either side of the ball.

Detroit Lions (0-4) @ Minnesota Vikings (2-3)

Detroit couldn't handle the Bears offense and it is no surprise they weren't a challenge for their defense. Minnesota came up big against the powerhouse Saints and should attempt to climb the ranks of the NFC North. The Vikings should clean house with the Lions.

Oakland Raiders (1-3) @ New Orleans Saints (2-3)

Oakland returns from it's bye week in a post-Kiffin world but don't expect that to do anything but hinder them. The Saints need to rebound from their late loss to the Vikings last week. The Raiders were growing with Kiffin but with or without him I think the Raiders fate was already sealed in this game.

Predicted Winner: New Orleans Saints

Cincinnati Bengals (0-5) @ New York Jets (2-2)

The Bengals came up just short against an NFC East powerhouse again last week. The Jets are coming off a bye after putting on an air show two weeks ago. Cincinnati is just too inconsistant to make me believe they will beat the New York Jets this week.

Carolina Panthers (4-1) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2)

Carolina is still the team to beat in the NFC South after demolishing the Chiefs. The Buccaneers are coming off a tough loss in Denver that came with questions at quarterback after Brian Griese left the game with a shoulder injury. Carolina couldn't have drawn a better week to play in Tampa Bay as they should encounter less of a struggle in this game.

Predicted Winner: Carolina Panthers

St. Louis Rams (0-4) @ Washington Redskins (4-1)

The Rams are coming off their bye week seeking their first win of the season as Marc Bulger returns to the starting lineup after the abrupt end of Scott Linehan's coaching days in St. Louis. Unfortunately for the Rams they find themselves in Washington where the Redskins have returned to continue their winning streak after their huge back to back road wins against division rivals. Don't expect an upset here.

Predicted Winner: Washington Redskins

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3) @ Denver Broncos (4-1)

Jacksonville is the second Florida team that will travel to denver in as many weeks and they hope to be the first to win there. Denver toughed it out against the Buccaneers and their track record with the Jaguars suggests they won't find any peace this Sunday either. Denver should find a way to win a close game as long as their defense doesn't regress.

Dallas Cowboys (4-1) @ Arizona Cardinals (3-2)

Dallas found themselves struggling with the winless Bengals just a week after their close loss to the Redskins. The Cardinals trampled the previously undefeated Bills a week after allowing 56 points in their loss to the Titans of New York (aka the Jets.) The Cowboys should find a way to beat Arizona but it won't be easy by any means.

Predicted Winner: Dallas Cowboys

Philadelphia Eagles (2-3) @ San Francisco 49ers (2-3)

The Eagles have endured two staggering losses in a row and need a win desperately to not fall down deeper in the toughest division in the league. The 49ers suffered yet another loss this time to the New England Patriots. Expect Philadelphia to bounce back in San Francisco.

Green Bay Packers (2-3) @ Seattle Seahawks (1-3)

After a strong start Aaron Rodgers ' Pack has dropped three games straight and are lucky enough to only be down one game in their division. Seattle has to be desperate after starting out 1-3 but have seemingly found no answers to stop their floundering. Green Bay couldn't possibly have landed a better matchup to stay in the race for their division for at least another week.

Predicted Winner: Green Bay Packers

New England Patriots (3-1) @ San Diego Chargers (2-3)

New England just came off a pretty tough win over San Francisco. The Chargers just became the second victim of the Dolphins whose first were New England. In a rematch of last year's AFC Championship these two teams are struggling. Expect the Chargers to prove to be the better of the two this week.

Monday, October 6th

New York Giants (4-0) @ Cleveland Browns (1-3)

New York has without a doubt proven their Superbowl win was no fluke as they are still a top tier team in this league. The Browns haven't come close to finding the magic they had going for them last year and have struggled tremendously. The Giants should get their fifth win of the season here.

The Ten

New York Giants (4-0) [Last week: 2] - They put a licking on the Seahawks and continue to roll.
Tennessee Titans (5-0) [Last week: 3] - They found a way to win in a defensive struggle with the Ravens, they remain undefeated.
Dallas Cowboys (4-1) [Last week: 4] - Rebounding against the Bengals should have been smoother but they will face a true challenge this week.
Denver Broncos (4-1) [Last week: 5] - Back at home and back in the win column, a loss by San Diego gave the Broncos a week to smile about.
Carolina Panthers (4-1) [Last week: 7] - Shutting out Kansas City was impressive considering they were coming off a win over the Broncos.
Washington Redskins (4-1) [Last week: 8] - This team is on the rise like a rocket after their two huge divisional road wins.
Buffalo Bills (4-1) [Last week: 1] - Insult added to injury makes this team's bye week a blessing, will that be enough time to get Trent Edwards back?
Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1) [Last week: 6] - They won a close one over the Jaguars and only drop due to outstanding play by teams that moved above them.
Arizona Cardinals (3-2) [Last week: Unranked] - Beating the Bills put them on the map and they have another challenge with Dallas this week.
New England Patriots (3-1) [Last week: Unranked] - They will need to up their game to beat the Chargers this week but they have done fairly well without Tom Brady.

Hero of the Week

For the second straight game he has lead his team to victory against teams they perhaps had no business beating. Ronnie Brown has been stellar as both a player and a leader for the Miami Dolphins who have started to roll with the "Wildcat" single-wing formation. Brown's decision making and athleticism have been key to making it work and no one has quite figured out how to stop it yet.

San Diego wasn't just sitting back hoping to lose that game, it really hurt their hunt for the Broncos who now hold the division lead by two games and the head to head tie breaker again. The Patriots hadn't been beat in the regular season in 21 games and they couldn't figure it out. Obviously a lot of credit goes to coach Tony Sparano but without Brown this system wouldn't be quite as impressive.

Ronnie Brown has done the seemingly impossible and has the Dolphins on a winning streak over two good teams and made them a viable threat again and that is why he is the Hero of the Week.

We're a quarter of the way through the season and there are only three undefeated teams left and the surprise is which two teams aren't anymore as the power has seemingly shifted in both conferences. Unpredictable? Not totally, but the surprises were more than shocking and the NFL's greatest prize looks to be completely up for grabs this year. Atlanta Falcons (2-1) @ Carolina Panthers (2-1)

Atlanta's road struggles continue and Carolina is back on track. Jake Delhomme is playing superbly and his wide receivers aren't letting him down one bit. Again Matt Ryan and the duo of Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood didn't play with the same fire they do at home, although Norwood's numbers (3 rushes for 51 yards) were rather impressive.

Cleveland Browns (0-3) @ Cincinnati Bengals (0-3)

Just when the world had given up on Cleveland the Bengals gave the nod to Ryan Fitzpatrick. Cleveland stuck with Derek Anderson through another week of Brady Quinn watch 08 and the Browns found a way to plop upward to 1-3.

Houston Texans (0-2) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2)

Jacksonville looks to be more like the team people expected coming into the season while the Texans seem like the team I expected, the last minute losers, good but not good enough. Matt Schaub played admirably to say the least but it seems to me the Texans are a team with little luck as I wouldn't exactly say the better team won this game just the luckier or more confident team but take nothing away from the Jags they aren't an easy win by any means.

Denver Broncos (3-0) @ Kansas City Chiefs (0-3)

A game seemingly in the books before it started, a matchup perhaps plagued by destiny, a history of pain. Perhaps there are things that can't be controlled by will or spirit but are predetermined and unavoidable. This is how many a Bronco fan has to feel watching the Arrowhead curse stop another in stadium winning streak from taking place for the Broncos. Denver didn't get into it's offensive groove and in fact made many mistakes. The Chiefs played a superior game somehow and they broke a 12 game losing streak dating back to last season.

San Francisco 49ers (2-1) @ New Orleans Saints (1-2)

The Saints bounced back in New Orleans against the 49ers. Drew Brees found his targets for scores on three seperate occasions, as he played a very good game. The 49ers proved they couldn't walk the walk in a game against an opponent of quality.

Arizona Cardinals (2-1) @ New York Jets (1-2)

Don't call them the Jets, the Titans of New York were on the field Sunday and if it were up to Brett Favre I think he'd trade the green and white for the blue and gold in a heart beat. Six touchdowns?! Six touchdowns! Favre played like gold and so did his receivers, the team racked up huge points. Arizona has to be embarrassed, they put up a fight but not many teams that give up 56 points win.

Green Bay Packers (2-1) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1)

Aaron Rodgers and the Pack are in trouble, Rodgers got injured in his second consecutive loss of the season and he wasn't playing all that great while he was in there. Minnesota may have had the best running back on the field but Chris Johnson didn't let him shine too strong as he matched him with two touchdown rushes. Minnesota looked like they were ready for the better teams but they couldn't handle the real deal in Tennessee.

San Diego Chargers (1-2) @ Oakland Raiders (1-2)

San Diego found itself in a struggle with Oakland as I had thought but the final score doesn't even begin to show how close the Raiders were to shocking the Chargers. 18-18 was the score going into the two minute warning and the Raiders went halfway through the 3rd quarter with a 15-0 lead. The Chargers rallied despite a bad performance by Philip Rivers. Oakland still can't find victory but they have obviously started to gel a bit.

Buffalo Bills (3-0) @ St. Louis Rams (0-3)

The Bills went into the game knowing this is one you absolutely win and they never let themselves slow down or let up. Scott Linehan lost his job but these Rams aren't going to benefit from a new coach, they need much improvement. The Bills may be the most impressive team in this league.

Washington Redskins (2-1) @ Dallas Cowboys (3-0)

The Redskins did pull off that upset and the NFC's power structure is now uncertain. The Cowboys and the Redskins looked evenly matched but the Skins seemed to want it more, playing with a lot of heart. Dallas isn't going to be down for long but the damage done by Washington will have the NFC racing for weeks.

Philadelphia Eagles (2-1) @ Chicago Bears (1-2)

The Bears showed up prepared to send a message to the East and they did it by defeating the Eagles and showing a massive defensive front that should keep them hot for a while. The Eagles came in without key players but the bottomline was the defense being too much for them.

Monday, September 29th

Baltimore Ravens (2-0) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (2-1)

These teams weren't going to give up the top spot without a fight giving plenty of reasons to believe they should each be the best in the AFC North. But there can be only one and Pittsburgh overcame the Ravens in overtime took control of the North for the time being.

Predicted Winner: Pittsburgh Steelers

Actual Winner: Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1)

Game of the Week

Dallas entered the game widely thought to be the best the NFL had to offer and the Redskins came in to Dallas hoping to make a statement, the NFC East is the best the NFL has to offer and they are it, the game was to be the forum of a discussion of action and not words. The game started off slow but before the first quarter would end the Cowboys would make their first trip into the endzone with a Tony Romo pass connecting with Jason Witten for 21 yards. The quarter ends 7-0 business as usual,Dallas is in control.

The second quarter begins and ten plays and 79 yards later Washington would even the score at 7-7 after a 3 yard pass from Jason Campbell to James Thrash. The Cowboys put the ball back in Redsin hands soon after only to allow them to go down the field again and let Campbell send another short touchdown pass, this time to Antwaan Randle El, giving Washington a 14-7 lead. The Cowboys know they are in for quite a game by now as they give the ball back to Washington who have a decent drive before stalling and taking the field goal thanks to a 20 yard Shaun Suisham kick setting the score to 17-7 for the Redskins. Dallas knew they needed to do something before the end of the half and had an impressive drive that led to an end of the half field goal of 36 yards by Nick Folk to bring the Cowboys back to within 7 at 10-17.

The Cowboys came out for the second half on a mission driving down the field fast and drawing even at 17-17 after a Romo toss hit Terrell Owens for 10 yards. The Redskins responded by working the clock and getting Suisham into position to hammer a 33 yarder between the posts, 20-17 for Washington. Carrying into the fourth and final quarter the Redskins would strike twice more with field goals of 33 and 29 yards by Suisham to make the score 26-17. In the final two minutes Dallas was able to draw within two points thanks to Miles Austin reeling in a Romo pass for 11 yards, 24-26. Dallas tried for an onside kick and failed, with less than two minutes and having no timeouts left Washington was able to run the clock down and defeat the Cowboys.

This game shouldn't have a negative impact on Dallas, if anything it should drive them, they will have an opportunity to even the score and they can learn from this loss and keep their feet on the ground. Washington should gain a bit of swagger to their step and they need it, they are a very good team that has seemed a bit low on confidence at times and this kind of win is like confidence in a bottle. They will both face their share of hardships in the future but both of these teams have the ability to overcome anything standing in their ways.

Week 5 - Who's in It and Who's Gonna Win It

Sunday, October 5th

Tennessee Titans (4-0) @ Baltimore Ravens (2-1)

The Titans are rolling and they are showing little sign of stopping while the Ravens are coming off their first defeat of the season after falling to Pittsburgh in overtime. This could be a rough game for the Titans but they have beat teams that posed bigger threats than the Ravens and I don't see them being derailed just yet.

Predicted Winner: Tennessee Titans

Kansas City Chiefs (1-3) @ Carolina Panthers (3-1)

Kansas City is coming off of a huge upset over Denver and should come in with a newfound confidence and the Panthers are a team they will need it against as they have been superb in most instances this year. The Chiefs shouldn't roll over but Carolina should prove more prepared than Denver was.

Predicted Winner: Carolina Panthers

Chicago Bears (2-2) @ Detroit Lions (0-3)

Chicago bounced back against a tough Eagles team and this week they take on the less than stellar Lions who are coming off their bye week. The Bears defense should be solid enough to make it impossible for the struggling Lions to make the plays needed to compete.

Predicted Winner: Chicago Bears

Atlanta Falcons (2-2) @ Green Bay Packers (2-2)

Atlanta obviously struggles on the road and if there is one place you need to bring your "A" game on the road it's Lambeau Field. The Packers have struggled as of late but they should be able to get a win over the Falcons at home.

Indianapolis Colts (1-2) @ Houston Texans (0-3)

Both Indianapolis and Houston have found themselves scratching their heads. With Indianapolis it's, how can we fix this mess? For Houston it's, why is it we can't get a win when the division isn't being haunted by Peyton Manning? The game could go either way but the Texans problem has been simply no mattter what they do they have lost so I'll believe in that occuring again.

San Diego Chargers (2-2) @ Miami Dolphins (1-2)

San Diego squeeked out of a tough game in Oakland and will face Miami who is coming off a bye week after beating the Brady-less Patriots and breaking their huge regular season win streak. San Diego seems to find trouble with every team they face so this could be a close one but I don't see Miami pulling off the upset.

Seattle Seahawks (1-2) @ New York Giants (3-0)

Both teams coming off the bye, each going different directions. The Seahawks have been pretty bad and will have to be lucky to have a chance against the NFC's last undefeated team. New York should have this in the bag.

Washington Redskins (3-1) @ Philadelphia Eagles (2-2)

Washington already beat one NFC East powerhouse and the Eagles despite their recent loss are another. The Redskins can't overlook a team with the fire power of these Eagles but should be ready for them. The Eagles will need to come out guns-a-blazing to win this one.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1) @ Denver Broncos (3-1)

Tampa Bay has been quietly making their way past some good teams with Brian Griese at the helm. Denver had been phenomenal until they stepped foot in Kansas City. The former Broncos quarterback will have a chance to show up the man Denver has deemed worthy of succeeding John Elway. It should be another tough one in Denver but a tough one the Denver offense will be ready to handle.

Buffalo Bills (4-0) @ Arizona Cardinals (2-2)

The Bills have made a name for themselves this year and the Cardinals should know that they have a tough one on their hands. Buffalo isn't going to put up 56 points but they should be able to handle the Cardinals in a much more quiet game.

Cincinnati Bengals (0-4) @ Dallas Cowboys (3-1)

The Bengals have been beat by the worst and they won't find a team that is going to sit back in Dallas as the Cowboys should be fired up to get their fourth win. Dallas has this one locked up.

New England Patriots (2-1) @ San Francisco 49ers (2-2)

The Patriots are coming off their bye week after being embarrassed by Ronnie Brown and the Dolphins. The 49ers are hoping to bounce back after being knocked down by New Orleans. The Brady-less Patriots are still a better team than the O'Sullivan gang and should find the win.

Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2)

Pittsburgh is coming off a Monday night overtime victory over the Ravens and should be trying to protect their spot on top of the AFC North. The Jaguars need to be focused on staying within shouting distance of the Titans in the South. I think the Jags have more confidence and they should be able to pull off the win.

Monday, October 6th

Minnesota Vikings (1-3) @ New Orleans Saints (2-2)

Minnesota can't seem to find any kind of rhythm while the Saints have been staying hot on offense. The Vikings need to get the passing game rolling but have had little consistancy. New Orleans should prove too powerful for the Vikings to keep up with in primetime.

The Ten

Buffalo Bills (4-0) [Last week: 4] - Buffalo has scratched and clawed their way to the top.
New York Giants (3-0) [Last week: 3] - Moved up during the bye thanks to Dallas and Denver losing, they also are now the last undefeated NFC team.
Tennessee Titans (4-0) [Last week: 6] - The Titans are for real and they might not be the only Titans but they are the only undefeated Titans.
Dallas Cowboys (3-1) [Last week: 1] - Couldn't stop the Redskins from taking them out and they fall for the first time.
Denver Broncos (3-1) [Last week: 2] - Kansas City pretty much brought the Broncos down to earth, how they bounce back will be what defines them.
Pittsburgh Steelers (2-1) [Last week: 7] - The Steelers won the right to stand atop of the AFC North again.
Carolina Panthers (3-1) [Last week: 8] - Jake Delhomme and Co. aren't going to let one bad game get them down.
Washington Redskins (3-1) [Last week: Unranked] - Beating the Cowboys was huge, the NFC East is clearly the top of the food chain.
Philadelphia Eagles (2-2) [Last week: 5] - The Bears defense wouldn't let them through, they'll need to break through better to get into the playoffs from the East.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1) [Last week: Unranked] - They got a big win over Green Bay and will try their luck in Denver next week.

The Ten is based on performance and strength of opponent, positioning on the list is taken into account as teams rise and fall.

Hero of the Week

He was the most interesting story of offseason, he acted questionably at times he and he may have alienated a good number of his fans in the process, it's a good thing he doesn't play for the fans. Brett Favre loves the fans but he loves the game more and really that is how it should be, he is without a doubt a great competitor and a leader. The New York Jets weren't a team ready to play contender and they still might not be but despite a shaky start Brett has gotten this teams spirits up and he's done it not only with his wisdom, but he has lead by example.

Arizona didn't head into this game looking like an easily beaten team and the Jets didn't look like a powerhouse. Favre took the Jets, or the Titans of New York, on to the field and he proved that the Jets could be as powerful as any team in this league, they can outscore anyone. He did it by tossing 6 touchdowns and the game didn't mean everything but its memory can lift this team for weeks to come.

Brett Favre's spirit, determination and leadership what makes him the player he has been for years, that is why he is a future Hall of Famer and that is why he is the Hero of the Week.

Another wild weekend, another set of heart stopping wins and that was just the third week. The coming week brings a close to the first quarter of the season and if you leave it 4-0 as a few teams very well may then you must feel good about how your season is going but let's not get ahead of ourselves as we approach Week 4. Kansas City Chiefs (0-2) @ Atlanta Falcons (1-1)

The Falcons are definitely flying in the Georgia Dome, Ryan, Turner and Norwood seem like different players in there, of course playing the Chiefs doesn't hurt your odds of success. The Chiefs got the ground game going but it's going to take far more than Larry Johnson to carry this team to a win.

Oakland Raiders (1-1) @ Buffalo Bills (2-0)

This actually was quite a game with the Bills going into the fourth quarter down 16-7 and the ensuing uphill struggle to make a comeback. The Raiders may have shocked some people on Sunday if it weren't for the heart of this Bills team.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-1) @ Chicago Bears (1-1)

I've always liked Brian Griese but have never understood how a guy who has such trouble keeping a starting job always gets the opportunity to madly air it out. 67 attempts by Griese in this game, 38 of which were completed, and over 400 yards helped keep Tampa Bay in the game. The Bears may have still won the game but in overtime it was their former backup, Griese, who drove the Bucs from their own 7 to Chicago's 3 for a chip-shot field goal in overtime to win it.

Final Score: TB, 27 - CHI, 24

Carolina Panthers (2-0) @ Minnesota Vikings (0-2)

Good old Gus Frerotte made his return to starting with the Vikings to try and right the ship, no easy task when going up against the red hot Carolina Panthers. Still the Vikings were supposed to be ready to contend this year and the Panthers are viewed by some, myself included, as a surprise. In the end a strong defensive showing and some solid play by Frerotte ended the Panthers' undefeated streak.

Final Score: CAR, 10 - MIN, 20

Miami Dolphins (0-2) @ New England Patriots (2-0)

Now there are the Patriots we have been waiting to see ever since Tom Brady went down in Week 1. The Dolphins were ready to take advantage of the wounded Pats and Ronnie Brown was ready to do all the damage himself scoring four rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown. The Dolphins brought Patriots fans back down to earth.

Final Score: MIA, 38 - NE, 13

Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) @ New York Giants (2-0)

The Bengals came out hoping to make their first win count and beat the champs. The Giants attempted to keep their winning streak alive. No one would budge and the game went into overtime where both teams would get a chance with the ball but only one made it count and the Giants keep the streak alive.

Houston Texans (0-1) @ Tennessee Titans (2-0)

Houston look like they have lost any luster they may have had coming into the season. The Texans couldn't get moving against a very tenacious Tennessee defense and their defense just couldn't handle the Titans rushing attack. The Titans continue to win no matter how pretty or ugly they look while doing it.

Arizona Cardinals (2-0) @ Washington Redskins (1-1)

Washington continues to keep pace with their NFC East rivals and Arizona is getting caught up with in the NFC West. The game was pretty close but the Skins are better prepared to outlast tough competition, Arizona doesn't see competition like they do, and they need to win close games like these to contend.

Final Score: ARI, 17 - WAS, 24

New Orleans Saints (1-1) @ Denver Broncos (2-0)

New Orleans almost made a great comeback in this nail-biter that started out looking like a disaster for them. Denver came out hot and then got flustered but they shocked the doubters by holding up under pressure. In the long run this game will help both teams. The Broncos got the win but realize they aren't invincible and the Saints learned they have clutch time ability even though they came up short.

Detroit Lions (0-2) @ San Francisco 49ers (1-1)

Detroit fell apart and this game is a spirit breaker to say the least. The Niners got their second win and have to feel pretty good about being tied with Arizona for the division lead. These teams should have a tough road ahead of them and I'm still not sure either of them is up for it.

St. Louis Rams (0-2) @ Seattle Seahawks (0-2)

St. Louis officially is the worst team in the NFL, and the Seahawks should count themselves lucky they get another free win later this season. Both teams can't be happy with their current standings in their division and I don't think either is capable of doing anything about it.

Cleveland Browns (0-2) @ Baltimore Ravens (1-0)

The Browns that were advertised may officially be dead and the Ravens may officially be for real. For now though I am not convinced on the latter, the Ravens beat two teams who seem to be floundering but they are undefeated and with that they get the benefit of the doubt, for now.

Predicted Winner: Cleveland Browns

Actual Winner: Baltimore Ravens (2-0)

Final Score: CLE, 10 - BAL, 28

Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) @ Indianapolis Colts (1-1)

This year's Jacksonville team finally pulled out some fight and the Colts strangely seem very human for the first time in years. You have to love a win like this if you're anyone but a Colts fan, very exciting and of course it doesn't hurt to beat the perennial division champs the year the division finally seems open. Peyton Manning won't see a 17th game this season if he doesn't get his team going.

Final Score: JAX, 23 - IND, 21

Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0) @ Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)

Big Ben going out didn't make things any better for the Steelers but lets face facts, two weeks in a row with low offensive numbers is never a good sign. The Eagles didn't put up huge numbers thanks to a solid Steelers defense but they had more than enough to be convincing over Pittsburgh.

Predicted Winner: Philadelphia Eagles

Final Score: PIT, 6 - PHI, 15

Dallas Cowboys (2-0) @ Green Bay Packers (2-0)

Dueling Quarterbacks faced off in a wild match up on Sunday night. Rodgers and his Pack just couldn't keep up in the end with Romo and the Cowboys. The rushing combo of Marion Barber and Felix Jones was outstanding as they each contributed not only with their scores but by wearing down the Packers.

Predicted Winner: Dallas Cowboys

Final Score: DAL, 27 - GB, 16

Monday, September 22nd

New York Jets (1-1) @ San Diego Chargers (0-2)

The Chargers defense needs some work, this game almost slipped through their fingers early. The Jets offense needs a lot of work, they couldn't take advantage of the many opportunities they were given. The Chargers overcame themselves and got the win but the score doesn't show the mistakes that plagued them and if they don't make changes better teams will take advantage.

Final Score: NYJ, 29 - SD, 48

Game of the Week

Oakland and Buffalo came into this game on different levels, one team looked like they were floundering in a division divided by the best and and the rest, the other looked like a team flourishing in a division busted open by one huge injury. Then the game started and nothing was what it seemed to be as the Raiders jumped to a 6-0 lead and the Bills struggled. In the second quarter the Bills took a 7-6 lead early but before the end of the half the Raiders put up another field goal making it a close 9-7.

After the half and an adjusted evaluation of teams that were seemingly very evenly matched the Raiders came out with the first punch again scoring a touchdown to put them up 16-7. The final quarter was winding down smoothly for the raiders until the Bills scored a timely touchdown making it 16-14 with about half a quarter left in regulation. The Raiders wouldn't back down quickly scoring another touchdown to pad their lead at 23-14 with 6:23 left in the game. Buffalo came back with a touchdown of their own with 4:03 left on the clock. Buffalo got the ball back with 2:29 left and drove the field before hammering a 38 yard nail in the coffin field goal as time expired and the Bills stay undefeated while the Raiders valiant effort leads to their second loss of the season.

This is the kind of game, like New Orleans at Denver, while obviously having a winner and a loser could help each team during the rest of the season. The Bills are still showing that heart they have been wearing on their sleeves all season and they proved that when the pressure is on they will refuse to crumble. The Raiders have looked more impressive as the season wears on and though this loss is a tough one to swallow they should take from it the fact that they more than held their own against a team that has the swagger of the Bills. They should also take note that despite their questionable pickups at wide receiver they have quite a catch in Johnnie Lee Higgins who has been showing some playmaking abilities thus far in the season as a return man but should definitely get more looks at receiver after his spectacular touchdown catch. I think the Bills will have an amazing season but I wouldn't be surprised if the Raiders turn a few head along the way.

Week 4 - Who's in It and Who's Gonna Win It

Sunday, September 28th

Atlanta Falcons (2-1) @ Carolina Panthers (2-1)

Atlanta will face their toughest test thus far in the season in Carolina. The Panthers are coming off their first loss of the season and should be hungry to turn it back around and take control of the NFC South. The Falcons need to come out playing like they do at home or they don't have a chance.

Predicted Winner: Carolina Panthers

Cleveland Browns (0-3) @ Cincinnati Bengals (0-3)

The Browns aren't living up to expectations and they must be stunned at this point that they are 0-3 but in life sometimes you are dealt the Bengals. Cleveland should be cautious as they are going to Cincinnati a team that despite it's lackluster play in the first two weeks almost found a way to end the Giants winning streak last week. If Cleveland comes to play they should be able to find a way to get the win.

Houston Texans (0-2) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2)

Houston is another team that isn't playing the way many thought they would and Jacksonville while also falling into that category did impress in their late victory over the Colts. Jacksonville should have more confidence playing at home against the tumbling Texans.

Denver Broncos (3-0) @ Kansas City Chiefs (0-3)

Denver overcame the first big hurdle of their schedule in the past two weeks and are still undefeated. Kansas City isn't ready to beat anyone, let alone Denver. This one is practically in the books.

San Francisco 49ers (2-1) @ New Orleans Saints (1-2)

The Saints got beat in a tough one and the Niners were dominant in a not so tough one. Still, New Orleans is a good football team and they should rebound against the Niners in a big way.

Arizona Cardinals (2-1) @ New York Jets (1-2)

Arizona put up a fight against the Redskins and they almost pulled off a win. The Jets put up a fight against the Chargers but they really would have needed more luck to win. Arizona should rebound while the Jets continue to plummet.

The Packers couldn't find a way past the Cowboys and the Bucs just squeeked by the Bears. This week the Pack should find a groove in Tampa Bay and a way back to winning. Tampa coud surprise but only if Griese limits his mistakes.

Minnesota Vikings (1-2) @ Tennessee Titans (3-0)

Minnesota is coming off a big win over Carolina and Tennessee is still undefeated. Tennessee might get their first loss if they can't stop Adrian Peterson but Minnesota had better score often if they want to beat these Titans.

Predicted Winner: Minnesota Vikings

San Diego Chargers (1-2) @ Oakland Raiders (1-2)

San Diego found their first win against Favre and the Jets but don't be surprised if it is tougher going against Oakland. Oakland came close to beating the Bills but that type of game won't be enough if they can't stop the pass.

Buffalo Bills (3-0) @ St. Louis Rams (0-3)

Buffalo should be proud of themselves as they ovrcame the odds last week and put themselves in great position to go 4-0 this week. The Rams have seemingly become the worst team in the league and will find no peace at home against the Bills.

Predicted Winner: Buffalo Bills

Washington Redskins (2-1) @ Dallas Cowboys (3-0)

Washington has made it clear they are going to fight tooth and nail to stay in NFC East contention but find themselves against a wall in Dallas. The Cowboys are the best in the NFC if not the NFL and this will be another test for them. If the Redskins pull off an upset it will undoubtedly shake up the NFC.

Philadelphia Eagles (2-1) @ Chicago Bears (1-2)

The Eagles will head into Chicago ready to take advantage of the twice beaten Bears. The Bears will look to rebound but may find themselves hard-pressed to beat a hot Philadelphia team. The Eagles should be able to pull out with a win.

Monday, September 29th

Baltimore Ravens (2-0) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (2-1)

Baltimore is coming in undefeated and up half a game over the Steelers who hope to rebound and take back control of the AFC North. If the Ravens are for real they better show it here. The Steelers will be ready for them.

The Ten

Dallas Cowboys (3-0) [Last week: 1] - Took it to the Pack and remain undefeated and on top of the NFC.
Denver Broncos (3-0) [Last week: 5] - It wasn't pretty but the defense helped when the offense sputtered and that was a huge concern for Denver which while not silenced should definitely be quieted down.
New York Giants (3-0) [Last week: 2] - Simply outlasting the Bengals wasn't impressive but they are still undefeated.
Buffalo Bills (3-0) [Last week: 6] - Beating Oakland wasn't a huge deal but the way they hung in there was the sign of a great team.
Philadelphia Eagles (2-1) [Last week: 7] - Phily bounced back well against the Steelers.
Tennessee Titans (3-0) [Last week: 8] - Collins continues to roll with this team.
Pittsburgh Steelers (2-1) [Last week: 3] - For the second straight week the Steelers can't get their offense going, I'm starting to think it's them.
Carolina Panthers (2-1) [Last week: 4] - Kind of hard to believe it took good old Gus to stop the cats.
Baltimore Ravens (2-0) [Last week: Unranked] - A statement was made by beating Cleveland and in a big way.
Green Bay Packers (2-1) [Last week: 9] - They couldn't handle the Cowboys but they held their own.

The Ten is based on performance and strength of opponent, positioning on the list is taken into account as teams rise and fall.

Hero of the Week

I honestly couldn't think of a man more important to his team this week than Trent Edwards of the Buffalo Bills. He has played impressively all season but who would have known how he would react to a situation like he faced against Oakland. It's a game the Bills are supposed to win but things just aren't going their way and it didn't look like they would until the Bills scored a mid fourth quarter touchdown to cut the deficit to two points and put the game within reach.

Outside of that Oakland scoring right back should have been the end of this teams spirit but they were unrelenting and drove down the field to bring it back to a two point game. Finally Edwards' defense showed up and gave him a chance to drive for the win and he didn't let them down, with the game on the line Edwards and the Bills flourished. Edwards took them into field goal range and managed the clock admirably to give his team the chance to prove his offense was ready to step up, special teams wouldn't let him down and the game was reeled in.

Edwards courage and poise in the face of certain doom was what this team needed to lift them, that is why Trent Edwards is the Hero of the Week.

Malfunctions and comebacks and whistles? Oh my what a week of football that was! Games full of big moments and last minute heroics and the season is still young. It's only Tuesday so pull out your ear plugs cause the whining surely won't stop until Sunday. This week's edition offers; In the Books - Week 2, the Game of the Week, Week 3 - Who's in It and Who's Gonna Win It, The Ten, and the Hero of the Week.

In the Books - Week 2

Sunday, September 14th

Green Bay Packers (1-0) @ Detroit Lions (0-1)

The Packers dominated this game from the get-go thanks to three first half passing touchdowns by Aaron Rodgers. Detroit found it hard to get a rhythm going but stuck around with mid-game field goals. The fourth quarter got really interesting with the Lions making a comeback thanks to a timely safety and Jon Kitna and Calvin Johnson delivering perhaps just a sign of things to come connecting for two touchdowns to take a one point lead. In the end though the Packers showed poise and broke out some late game fire power to make a close game look like a very big victory.

Final Score: GB, 48 - DET, 25

Chicago Bears (1-0) @ Carolina Panthers (1-0)

The Bears and the Panthers were coming off big upset victories in the first week and they both were hungry and eager to show they weren't pulling out flukes. Both teams made solid cases in this very close game. The Bears lead the game for the most part but two touchdown runs by rookie Jonathan Stewart in the second half helped the Panthers squeek out the victory.

Final Score: CHI, 17 - CAR, 20

New York Giants (1-0) @ St. Louis Rams (0-1)

The Rams continue to struggle on both sides of the ball and continue to pose very little threat to opponents. The defending Superbowl champions are a different story as they can seem to be stopped continuing their roll since last season. Eli Manning looked particularly impressive throwing for three touchdowns and playing the very calm accurate leader the Giants would be thrilled to see show up week after week. This wasn't a contest and even a bad Eli Manning would have dominated the bleak Rams.

Final Score: NYG, 41 - STL, 13

New Orleans Saints (1-0) @ Washington Redskins (0-1)

The Saints seem to have a lot of fight and they are getting it back the past two weeks playing close games in their win over Tampa Bay and now against the Redskins. Washington wanted to make it clear that they are a team to be reckoned with after their dissapointing opener against the Giants. The Saints lead the game until a fourth quarter comeback that ended with a 67 yard touchdown pass from Jason Campbell to Santana Moss gave the Redskins the lead and the win.

Predicted Winner: New Orleans Saints

Actual Winner: Washington Redskins (1-1)

Final Score: NO, 24 - WAS, 29

Buffalo Bills (1-0) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1)

The Jags did fairly well stopping the run this week but showed little pass defense. The Bills lead the game for the most part and when Jacksonville made a comeback the Bills QB Trent Edwards came through big with a game winning drive and the defense held up the rest of the way. The Bills roll while Jacksonville has to figure out a way to rebound from a disappointing start.

Final Score: BUF, 20 - JAX, 16

Tennessee Titans (1-0) @ Cincinnati Bengals (0-1)

Tennessee isn't going to turn heads with their current play but it was more than enough to fluster Cincinnati. Kerry Collins managed the game fine in place of QB Vince Young while the rushing duo of Chris Johnson and Lendale White continued to pound the rock impressively. The Bengals could barely manage to stand on the field and if they are going to improve the need a bigger change the Chad Johnson's surname.

Final Score: TEN, 24 - CIN, 7

Oakland Raiders (0-1) @ Kansas City Chiefs (0-1)

Oakland's QB play was dismal but that didn't stop them from showng off on the ground with three rushers making an impact, most notably rookie Darren McFadden putting on a spectacular show. Kansas City has shown nothing to make them a reasonable threat to any team thus far and even Oakland had no trouble thumping them.

Final Score: OAK, 23 - KC, 8

Indianapolis Colts (0-1) @ Minnesota Vikings (0-1)

Minnesota came out running but Adrian Peterson couldn't carry his team into the endzone despite rushing for 160 yards. The Colts found themselves trailing 15-0 late in the game before Peyton Manning led an 18 point comeback victory to get his first win of the season over the struggling Vikings.

Predicted Winner: Indianapolis Colts

Final Score: IND, 18 - MIN, 15

Atlanta Falcons (1-0) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1)

Matt Ryan, Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood didn't find the successes of the first week in Tampa Bay as each player struggled tremendously. The Buccaneers, now led by Brian Griese found some gold on land and by air that couldn't be beaten solely by the leg of Atlanta's Jason Elam.

Predicted Winner: Atlanta Falcons

Actual Winner: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-1)

Final Score: ATL, 9 - TB, 24

San Francisco 49ers (0-1) @ Seat tle Seahawks (0-1)

This was a knockdown drag out game between the two worst teams I have seen thus far this year, someone had to get a win and it was a small surprise that it ended up being Seattle becoming the absolute bottom of the leagues bottom feeders. San Francisco needed to win it in overtime which says enough about them and their talent level.

Predicted Winner: Seattle Seahawks

Final Score: SF, 33 - SEA, 30

San Diego Chargers (0-1) @ Denver Broncos (1-0)

This game was something else on pretty much every level. Denver dominated early and pretty much owned the first half. San Diego refused to go down without a fight and got back in it before the Broncos, led by Jay Cutler's last minute heroics, got the game winning score. There was controversy and there was little defenses could do to impact the game but the Broncos were able to pull into the driver's seat.

Final Score: SD, 38 - DEN, 39

New England Patriots (1-0) @ New York Jets (1-0)

Tom Brady replacement Matt Cassel managed a sound unremarkable game and the defense was able to put Favre and the Jets in their place most of the time. New York couldn't take flight and they couldn't find a way to out-smart the Patriots. New England is winning without Brady, at least for now.

Baltimore Ravens (1-0) @ Houston Texans (0-1)

Unfortunately this game was rescheduled due to the hurricane in Houston and the damage it did to their stadium.

Miami Dolphins (0-1) @ Arizona Cardinals (1-0)

Kurt Warner, Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald had this team running on all cylinders against a struggling Miami team. The Dolphins never did get their game off the ground and they looked a lot like the Miami Dolphins of a year ago in this one. The Cardinals still have a lot to prove but their 2-0 start won't hurt their chances of taking the NFC West this year.

Final Score: MIA, 10 - ARI, 31

Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0) @ Cleveland Browns (0-1)

This game was a tough matchup as expected and both defenses gave it their all in this low scoring affair. The Steelers took the lead in the first half with a touchdown and never let go scoring 3 more points against the Browns 6. The Browns continue to slum in the lower half of the league but the way they have played and their competition suggests they won't be winless for long.

Monday, September 15th

Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) @ Dallas Cowboys (1-0)

In one of the most impressive games of the week these division rivals collided in a shootout that came down to the wire. The Eagles looked impressive all game and they may have even beat the Cowboys with an extra minute or two on the clock. The Cowboys were definitely as great if not more so as they take the win and move to 2-0.

Game of the Week

After two seasons of letting the Chargers walk all over them the Broncos were finally fed up and built with an offense that scored 41 points less than a week prior without the help of star WR Brandon Marshall. The Chargers season was spoken about with Superbowl expectations and their roster touted as the most talented in the NFL but with Shawne Merriman on IR and a last second loss in the first week they were in need of a win to boost their momentum and not fall behind.

The game was controversial as everyone knows with the early so called interception by Champ Bailey that couldn't be reversed due to technical error and the now infamous empty hand whistle play that supposedly changed the fortunes of these teams. Living in California I hear all the woes and complaints but the simple explaination I can give anyone is the early call didn't change the game, if Denver wasn't up by the amount of points they were going into the half they surely would've turned back to the shotgun formations that led them to pay dirt much sooner than they did. As for the fumble that wasn't but was, complaining about that is like saying the Chargers would have won if Jay Cutler fumbled for no reason because the Chargers obviously didn't force the fumble, it would have been dumb luck. The Broncos didn't rely on luck they forced the game their way and outplayed the Chargers for the better half of the game.

5:41 left in the game, the Broncos have the ball and are up 31-30, third and three at the San Diego 4 Cutler throws to Royal but it's intercepted by Antoine Cason. Three plays later Philip Rivers throws a 66 yard touchdown pass to Darren Sproles and a two point conversion pass to Legedu Naanee gave the Chargers a sudden 38-31 lead. 4:22 left and the Broncos get the ball at their own 20 and after 9 plays it's second and one at the San Diego 1 with 1:17 left in the game. Jay Cutler goes to pass and his hand is empty, the ball slipped and the Chargers quickly recover. The referee calls incomplete and the play goes to review, the ruling on the field confuses and delights the Broncos crowd, it was a fumble but the whistle was blown for an incomplete so the Broncos retain it at the 10. Third and goal from the 10 yard line and the Broncos boldly run the ball, they get 6 yards. Fourth and goal at the 4 and Jay Cutler snaps and goes to rookie Eddie Royal who catches the touchdown and brings hope back to the fans. Now we have a chip shot to tie the game. Wait! What?! Mike Shanahan and Jay Cutler give the signal to go for two. WHAT? Jay Cutler snaps the ball and tosses a bullet to Eddie Royal on a flipped version of the previous play... it's reeled in and the Broncos take a one point lead which with 24 seconds on the clock they manage to hold on to. BRONCOS WIN! All in all it was a fantastic game, one of the best in recent memory and it was no fluke the Broncos pulled off the victory they were the superior team on the field on Sunday.

Week 3 - Who's in It and Who's Gonna Win It

Sunday, September 21st

Kansas City Chiefs (0-2) @ Atlanta Falcons (1-1)

Atlanta may not be a fantastic team, they are definitely not very consistent but that is the great thing about Kansas City, you don't need to be very good to beat them. Especially when you're at home and the Chiefs aren't in Kansas anymore.

Predicted Winner: Atlanta Falcons

Oakland Raiders (1-1) @ Buffalo Bills (2-0)

Oakland is coming off of a win in Kansas City but the level of competition is going to be turned up against the Bills. Buffalo is ready for contenders and the Raiders are just a fly on their windshield.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-1) @ Chicago Bears (1-1)

The Bucs looked pretty good against the Falcons but the Bears should pose a bigger threat and it will be interesting to see if Griese and the Bucs can move against the Chicago defense. I have a feeling the QB situation might get a little fuzzier in Tampa Bay after this game is over.

Carolina Panthers (2-0) @ Minnesota Vikings (0-2)

The Panthers have made their statement to the NFL in the past two weeks and I don't think anyone didn't listen, the Panthers are for real. Minnesota has sputtered and spewed on the field and can't seem to find the endzone for the life of them. Carolina should be winning in January if they keep things up.

Miami Dolphins (0-2) @ New England Patriots (2-0)

The Patriots have found ways to win without Tom Brady and I don't think it will stop with Miami on their plate. Miami is struggling again after a good showing against the Jets in Week 1. The Pats might have a close game on their hands but I expect them to pull through.

Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) @ New York Giants (2-0)

Cincinnati has yet to play like a team that can win games and the Giants have yet to play like a team that isn't going to make it back to the Super Bowl. Sometimes teams surprise you, this game shouldn't leave anyone in awe as the Giants are simply more capable than the Bengals of today.

Houston Texans (0-1) @ Tennessee Titans (2-0)

Houston is going into this week after an unscheduled early bye week. The Titans come in on a roll with the division lead. The Texans that everyone has been waiting for may show up this week and surprise the Titans who looked very beatable in Week 2.

Arizona Cardinals (2-0) @ Washington Redskins (1-1)

Arizona has two wins and a firm grasp on the NFC East. The Redskins are desperate to keep up with the Cowboys and the Giants. Arizona obviously throttled Miami but the Skins are a superior team and should be able to pull off a victory in Week 3.

New Orleans Saints (1-1) @ Denver Broncos (2-0)

New Orleans has played their games close and they have burned and been burned. The Broncos have gunned it in two games to fantastic results and this week the Saints may find themselves in the line of fire and Denver has all the right weapons. If the Saints play their best game it could be close but New Orleans has played well not even close to great.

Detroit Lions (0-2) @ San Francisco 49ers (1-1)

Detroit has been beat down but they started to gel against the Pack. San Francisco is the ultimate punching bag to build confidence. Detroit may get it's groove back in San Francisco.

St. Louis Rams (0-2) @ Seattle Seahawks (0-2)

Who wants to wager against Seattle now? Yep, that's what I thought. The Seahawks aren't contenders they are not even a shadow of the Seahawks that were playoff incumbents. St. Louis is terrible too but I think it's safe to say the Rams are better than Seattle.

Cleveland Browns (0-2) @ Baltimore Ravens (1-0)

The Browns are down on their luck, the Ravens are just past their unscheduled bye and ready to move on. The Ravens played well in Week 1 but have yet to face a team like the Browns who are good but have faced some other good teams they couldn't find a way to beat. The Browns should get their first win.

Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) @ Indianapolis Colts (1-1)

Jacksonville can't seem to catch a break and the Colts make their breaks. The Jags are not playing like they did last year and neither are the Colts but at least Peyton and co. still can change games, the Jaguars have yet to do that.

Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0) @ Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)

Pennsylvania divided, two very good teams from the same state face off in what could be a huge duel. Pittsburgh may have trouble if the Eagles can engage them in a shootout they can't keep up with. Philly can't let this be a defensive struggle unless they are ready to step it up.

Predicted Winner: Philadelphia Eagles

Dallas Cowboys (2-0) @ Green Bay Packers (2-0)

This game has all the potential to be great but I am not sure if Aaron Rodgers and the Pack are ready to go toe to toe with Dallas and keep up with them. Dallas has potential to explode at any given time and if the lead gets out of hand Rodgers is sure to make more than a few mistakes. Green Bay's defense needs to step up and even if they do it will be a surprise if they can win this one.

Monday, September 22nd

New York Jets (1-1) @ San Diego Chargers (0-2)

The Jets need to go to a new level of play to beat this powerful Chargers team and based on the first two games I would say it's next to impossible for Brett Favre to pull off some magic in this one. The Chargers can't let their egos and their recent past get the best of them or Favre will get an unlikely opportunity to hand them their third straight loss.

Hero of the Week

This week I couldn't help but split this honor amongst three players for their heroic performances. Your Heroes of the Week are Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall, and Eddie Royal. Cutler completed 36 of 50 passes for 350 yards and 4 touchdowns and while his two biggest mistakes nearly cost the Broncos the game the way he handled himself in the final moments showed the kind of poise Denver hasn't seen since a guy who wore the number 7 was driving down the field.

Cutler overcame the odds and he did it in style but he didn't do it on his own. A week ago Brandon Marshall was watching the game from home but on Sunday he was back in the saddle and Cutler reaffirmed his faith in his favorite target by delivering 18 passes to Marshall's eager hands, shattering the Broncos all-time record of 14 by Rod Smith who was in attendance as an honorary captain and tying the second best mark in history now only behind T.O. who hold s the record with 20. Marshall's 166 yards were a yard behind the most receiving yards of the week and his 18 catches give him a three catch lead on the league after only playing a single game. Marshall also hauled in a touchdown at the end of the first half.

Eddie Royal impressed me a whole lot in the first week, I almost had him as the Hero of Week 1 but after a less standout performance, I am even more thrilled. Royal finished with 5 catches for 37 yards and 1 touchdown, decent numbers but what was really impressive was that his touchdown was on 4th and goal with the game on the line! Not impressed yet? The rookie was sent a second pass on the same route as he was entrusted to make the catch on the make or break two point conversion! Royal pulled the feat off like a pro and that is what makes these kids the Heroes of the Week.

In the Books - Week 1

Washington Redskins @ New York Giants

The Redskins have better take another look at their QB situation because Jason Campbell can manage a game well enough but he certainly isn't a game changing QB. I see Colt Brennan on the sidelines and think about how much greater of a weapon they have in him, he gives the team a spark when he is at the helm and while he lacks experience and may make more mistakes he also could have generated a lot more chances to win. The Giants defense played better than I expected and Plaxico Burress certainly showed them he was worth his new contract. Eli Manning managed to salvage a rough game and while I still think New York is not going to be a threat come playoff time, they certainly should be competitive throughout the year. I believe Washington has more than they showed in them but they need a QB that is going to make things happen.

Detroit Lions @ Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta looks a lot more like a contender than I would have ever guessed and I think I underestimated Michael Turner who certainly looks like the real deal and with Jerious Norwood the Falcons may have the most impressive one, two punch at RB in the league. Matt Ryan's debut was taken slowly but the accuracy he has and the confidence this game had to have given him is exactly what could help him make Atlanta a serious contender. Detroit couldn't seem to stop the run at all and that doesn't give them much hope when going up against Minnesota twice a year, we'll see if they can bounce back this week against the Packers.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Baltimore Ravens

The Bengals didn't do anything very well, the fact that this even looked like a close game is due to a lackluster Baltimore offense. The Ravens had decent play from rookie starter Joe Flacco but the truth is neither team is very much of a threat to their division in their current state.

Seattle Seahawks @ Buffalo Bills

Buffalo look like a team ready to make their run at the playoffs while Seattle looks even worse than I thought they were. The Bills dominated the game in style with great play on both sides of the ball. Seattle looked lost and the injuries they suffered didn't help the effort. The Bills should make a strong run at winning the AFC East.

New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins

In one of the very entertaining games of the week Brett Favre showed up on the field ready to lead his new team. Likewise former Jets QB Chad Pennington had his Dolphins geared up and the clash ended in a close finish with Favre's Jets edging the much improved Miami Dolphins.

Kansas City Chiefs @ New England Patriots

The AFC East was busted wide open after Tom Brady left this game early with a knee injury that turned out to be a season ending one. The Chiefs almost took advantage but Matt Cassel managed to pull the Patriots through to a victory, the rest of the schedule might not seem so easy for the Pats anymore.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New Orleans Saints

In a very tight game with a lot of excitement Tampa Bay and New Orleans each made their case to be the best team in the NFC South but the emergence of the Falcons and Panthers has made this division look like a powerhouse. New Orleans earn a tooth and nail victory while the Bucs took the back seat in the South.

St. Louis Rams @ Philadelphia Eagles

It was no surprise to see the Rams fail to churn up points but the way the Eagles played was enlightening. Donovan McNabb looks like the guy who won an NFC Championship again and he'll need to be that guy in the NFC East this year.

Houston Texans @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh looks like they are back to form and they may once again be the team to beat in the AFC. Willie Parker had a great game thanks to excellent blocking by his offensive line. Houston didn't look terrible, just over-matched and they couldn't find consistency in the running game.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tennessee Titans

Chris Johnson arrived for the Titans and running like he did against Jacksonville I look forward to seeing how he fairs against lesser teams. The Jags never found a rhythm running the ball and without it they can't expect Garrard to make the plays they need.

Dallas Co wboys @ Cleveland Browns

Cleveland still looks like a very good team, but they were simply over-matched against a Cowboys team that appears ready to return to the glory days. Dallas was able to handle Cleveland with more ease than I expected and they might just be the best of the NFC East.

Carolina Panthers @ San Diego Chargers

The Panthers looked impressive on the field against a team I really doubted they could beat. The Chargers looked great but when it counted they couldn't pull off the big stop. Both teams should have solid seasons ahead of them.

Arizona Cardinals @ San Francisco 49ers

The Cardinals didn't impress against a 49ers team that was as bad as advertised and the NFC West looks to be the weakest division in the history of the NFL to my recollection. Someone had to win it and who it was wasn't exactly a shock.

Chicago Bears @ Indianapolis Colts

The Bears were impressive in a rematch of Super Bowl XLI, Kyle Orton was impressive as was Matt Forte. The Colts were surprisingly flat and it will be interesting to see how they do this season in the Brady-less, wide open AFC.

Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers was definitely impressive in his debut as he managed to pull out of a tough match with a victory. The Vikings running game looks good but without a decent passing game they get left behind in a game like this. Both teams should be fairly good this year but only time will tell.

Denver Broncos @ Oakland Raiders

How do the Broncos respond to a game without Brandon Marshall? With the most explosive offense Week 1 had to offer is the answer. Jay Cutler showed great maturity on the field and his young line was solid for him. The surprise to the rest of the world was rookie Eddie Royal who shouldn't have been a surprise to the informed Broncos fan, what was surprising is how he handled DeAngelo Hall who often seemed offended by the rookie who simply outplayed him. Royal looked like a guy who used to wear number 80 out on that field and seems to be the perfect compliment opposite Brandon Marshall who returns next week. The Raiders couldn't handle the Broncos and they couldn't handle the rules judging by all the yellow flags out there.

Game of the Week

This game went down to the wire, each team had it's moments and neither team gave up. Despite a scoreless first quarter the lead bounced back and forth seven times. While Carolina didn't quite have the offensive power of the Chargers they made key plays on defense and special teams to stay in the game and when they needed it most the offense pulled through with an amazing drive that came down to the last second.

There are moments in a season that make you believe anything is possible this game was full of those moments. Philip Rivers orchestrated a 6 play scoring drive late in the game to pull within 3 points. Just three plays later Shaun Phillips recovered a fumble on the Carolina 28 that lead to another 6 play scoring drive by Rivers to take a 4 point lead. The Chargers seemed to have snatched victory from the hands of defeat.

With 2 minutes and 27 seconds left Carolina got the ball back and Jake Delhomme took the field at the Carolina 32. After driving the field admirably and failing his second 3 and 7 attempt of what was a 10 play drive, Delhomme was in position for a 4th and 1 play with 2 seconds left and 14 yards to go. Delhomme took the snap and sent the ball to Dante Rosario in the endzone and as San Diego held their breath Rosario hauled in the catch to win the game. This could very possibly be the best game played all year.

Week 2 - Who's in It and Who's Gonna Win It

Sunday, September 14th

Green Bay Packers (1-0) @ Detroit Lions (0-1)

After Green Bay won the battle against the Vikings, the Lions should be a cake-walk but it will be interesting to see how Rodgers handles his first road start. The LIons were picked apart by the Falcons and they will need to step up big if they have any hope of rebounding against their rival Packers.

Predicted Winner: Green Bay Packers

Chicago Bears (1-0) @ Carolina Panthers (1-0)

The Bears stunned Peyton Manning and the Colts after The Panthers shocked Philip Rivers and the Chargers. In Week 2 one of these teams has to be an unexpected 2-0 and the other will get that loss they shockingly avoided. Carolina beat a team with a lot of fight and they should be able to pull it off again.

New York Giants (1-0) @ St. Louis Rams (0-1)

New York got a big division win against Washington and they seem to have some swagger left. The Rams are rolling over, looking nothing remotely like "The Greatest Show on Turf." I don't see the Rams getting any wins the way they are playing.

New Orleans Saints (1-0) @ Washington Redskins (0-1)

New Orleans pulled out a hard fought victory over Tampa Bay while Washington struggled against the Champions. The Saints could have been a lot more convincing but the Skins need to shake things up to show up and this won't be their game.

Buffalo Bills (1-0) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1)

Buffalo looked hot last week and The Jags couldn't stop the run at all. Unless the run defense of the Jaguars steps up this is no contest if it does it will be a great game but the Bills have something special on their side so I think they'll do well.

Tennessee Titans (1-0) @ Cincinnati Bengals (0-1)

Chris Johnson and the Titans opened up some eyes and Carson Palmer's Bengals looked like a train wreck out there. If the Titans play their cards right they could top the division wth that running game of theirs and this game will not be a hard place to pick up where they left off.

Oakland Raiders (0-1) @ Kansas City Chiefs (0-1)

Oakland got demolished by the Broncos while Kansas City got edged by Matt Cassel and the Patriots. I would normally think that Kansas City would be the team in this one but the Raiders might not be as bad as they looked, especially if Javon Walker shows up.

Predicted Winner: Oakland Raiders

Indianapolis Colts (0-1) @ Minnesota Vikings (0-1)

Neither Indianapolis or Minnesota looked as fierce as they seemed. The Colts have a chance to rebound and history tells me to put money on the team that has a balanced attack which the Vikings don't.

Atlanta Falcons (1-0) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1)

Atlanta looked very impressive tearing the Lions apart while Tampa Bay wasn't without it's moments against the Saints. I think Atlanta has a chance to emerge as a threat in this division and this is where they start.

San Francisco 49ers (0-1) @ Seattle Seahawks (0-1)

The 49ers looked bad but as hard as it may be to believe they may have looked better than Seattle who were thumped by Buffalo. I think the 49ers will continue to have trouble and Seattle will be able to put one in the win column.

San Diego Chargers (0-1) @ Denver Broncos (1-0)

The Chargers suffered heartbreak against the Panthers while the Broncos put on a show against the Raiders. The Chargers played well but The Broncos played fantastic and with the return of their most explosive player, Brandon Marshall, the Broncos are set to go nuclear on the field.

Predicted Winner: Denver Broncos

New England Patriots (1-0) @ New York Jets (1-0)

New England will have to move on without star QB Tom Brady but they won't be able to find any easy wins. Brett Favre has the Jets flying smoothly and they should prove to be better than the Patriots of today can handle.

Baltimore Ravens (1-0) @ Houston Texans (0-1)

Houston was smashed by the Steelers and the Ravens managed to squeek by a terrible Bengals team. Baltimore may improve over the weeks but the Texans are not going to be out-gunned this week.

Miami Dolphins (0-1) @ Arizona Cardinals (1-0)

Miami looked like a new team with Chad Pennington under center and the Cardinals struggled with the 49ers in what should have been a far easier game. I think the Cards can turn the tables and turn up the volume against Miami in a close game this week though.

Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0) @ Cleveland Browns (0-1)

This should be a heck of a matchup between AFC North rivals. Pittsburgh crushed Houston while the Browns fell to the Cowboys but these teams should be more evenly matched. Even so I think Pittsburgh will continue to roll as the Browns find themselves in an unfortunate early hole.

Monday, September 15th

Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) @ Dallas Cowboys (1-0)

The beasts of the NFC East will rumble on Monday Night Football. Dallas was impressive in their victory over a very good Browns team and Philadelphia breezed by the hapless Rams. I think we see the Cowboys make a huge statement in primetime.

Predicted Winner: Dallas Cowboys

The Ten

Dallas Cowboys (1-0) - They took it to Cleveland and cemented their contender status.
Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0) - The Texans didn't know what hit them but no one will be surprised when this team strikes next.
New York Giants (1-0) - The champs aren't letting down just yet.
Carolina Panthers (1-0) - The prowling cats are ready to prove they are for real.
Tennessee Titans (1-0) - Taking down the Jags was a crucial start to a what should be a very good season.
New Orleans Saints (1-0) - They fought hard for their win and will have to do it again in Washington.
Chicago Bears (1-0) - Beating Peyton Manning will always boost your confidence.
Denver Broncos (1-0) - Cutler's machine is roaring and the Chargers are in his line of fire.
Buffalo Bills (1-0) - These guys have heart and they have power to back it.
Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) - Donovan McNabb might just be back the big test comes Monday against Dallas.

The Ten is based on performance and strength of opponent, positioning on the list is taken into account as teams rise and fall.

Hero of the Week

This week's hero is Jake Delhomme of the Carolina Panthers who's last minute heroics gave the Panthers a huge win over the San Diego Chargers. The Panthers were longshots by anyone's standards but they persevered and overcame a Chargers comeback run late in the game. This game was one of many in Week 1 that opened the AFC to more than just the "elite." Delhomme's comeback victory represents everything the NFL is all about and while it may only be the first week his win will matter come Week 17.
