I liked it, thought you might too!
Some creative purple genius put together a Vikings highlight reel to a purple remix of Jay-Z's Run This Town song. I don't find a lot of stuff like this for our favorite footballers. I thought you may like it.

1 3 3 1 (Favre Watch)
This is a little trivia everyone can enjoy. For those waiting in anticipation for the downfall of Brett Favre (the notorious late season collapse that makes him more of a liability than an asset) and the end of the Vikings championship dreams this fact will surely get your mouth salivating. Those of you who have wholy embraced Favre and have enjoyed cheering his historically dominate performances each week can appreciate this for what it is...old news.
What Does a 'Norseman' Know Anyway?
"A very specific visual passed through my head Thursday night as I considered the Jay Cutler trade from a NFC North-wide perspective. I thought of a man grappling for stability on the rough side of a mountain, slipping ever so slightly while creating 10 vertical lines in the direction of his descent.
The man wore a Helga hat and Viking horns. A bear clawed at his feet." - Kevin Seifert, ESPN NFC North Blogger on the Bears acquisition of Jay Cutler 04/03/09.
No one said you have to know anything to be a blogger, but C'mon Man!
Place Your Bets...Cutler
Prior to the start of the season the NFC North's hottest topic was undoubtably "Quarterbacks," with three of the four teams in the division handing the ball to new starters. Nine games into the 2009 season it seems that quarterback play has impacted the division more than any other factor. Not necessarily in the manner in which it was at one time thought.

Week 9 Vikings Win?
Sunday November 8th the Vikings enjoy the bye week taking advantage of the time off and yet they still increase their division lead over both the Packers and Bears. Could it get any better?
A Peek Behind the Steel Curtain
I'll occasionally visit a Vikings opponents' SBNation page to get a feel for a fan base's fanaticism. I've been impressed by some and bored by others. I just sneeked a peek Behind the Steel Curtain (the SB Steelers page) and found an interesting post. Apparently the crew over there makes weekly score predictions. In more than forty comments, some more creative than others and most predicting a relatively close score, only one commentor picked the Vikings to win the game.
Check out a sample below and make a prediction yourself. Go ahead, be a Homer, they are.
Division Leading 3 - 0? Big Deal, So What!
Apart from the excessively exagerated Brett Favre drama and subsequent locker room "Schismgate," the national sports media basically excluded the Minnesota Vikings from all championship discussions. Several warned the fan base to temper its excitement for the season and many were picking last years NFC North champs to finish as low as third in the division. That is despite having drafted a playermaker many were simultaneously admitting could easily win the Offensive ROY; and signing a 3-time League MVP and future HOFer (and arguably the best quarterback ever) to play quarterback, addressing the one universally diagnosed weakness.
"$12 Million For This?" Or "How Bad Have Recent Vikings QB's Been?"
It is easy to overlook Brett Favre's performance to this point in the season given all the attention being paid to the best running back in the league since Jim Brown. However, Favre's statistics don't even tell the entire story.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brett Favre "Drama" or Comedy?
The entire sports and entertainment world has spent much of the 2009 summer focusing on the continuing "Brett Favre (Un)Retirement Saga," with every sports anchor, late night host and basically anyone with a microphone in front of them taking pot shots at Favre for waffling.

WildCat? Might Be A Little Too Wild!
Brett Favre, at one time arguably the best football player in the league (which is an amazing feat considering the position he plays) has never been renowned as a skilled blocker nor an accomplished pass catcher. So what gives?
What?
Perusing Vikings news and found an interesting tidbit on espn's NFC North Blog Page.
Kevin Seifert reporting on all things North while at the combine in Indianapolis suggests there may not be much change at quarterback in the Vikings roster come the 2009 season. Seifert says "...it seems clear the Vikings have no interest in pursuing a blockbuster deal to find a new starter. That would seem to rule out a run at New England's Matt Cassel, and as of Friday the team had displayed no indications it would pursue pending free agent Jeff Garcia."
Ouch!
Childress was asked "if he could envision a scenario in which the Vikings would pursue a player to be their new and unquestioned starter. Childress paused several seconds and said: "There might be." Then, he added: "But right now I would be honest with you and tell you I wouldn't know who that person would be.""
Really? See above paragraph!
Seifert continues: "So let's quickly review. Without mentioning Cassel, Garcia or Cleveland's Derek Anderson by name, the Vikings' top two decision-makers are on record saying they don't believe there is a difference-making quarterback available to them. And their first option is to make no changes to their 2008 depth chart."
The piece has more on the Vikings perspective, check it out:

Is the NFL Sudden Death Overtime Rule Unfair?
Last night the Indianapolis Colts took the home team San Diego Chargers to overtime where they lost the coin flip and consequently the game. Controversy? I had no idea there was such much fervor over the NFL's overtime rules.
Looking Back
So, the Vikings won and head into the playoffs with their heads held high. Still, the naysayers will point to the Giants having clinched home field throughout and their subsequent decision to rest key players during the finale as the reason the Vikings were able to complete the comeback.
Someone had noted earlier that Tavaris Jackson could be considered the second string quarterback playing because of an injury to Frerotte. But TJack doesn't get any credit for the job he's done in Frerotte's stead.
I also have a question about what exactly is a backup or second stringer in the NFL.
Chester Taylor was a career backup before rushing for more than 1300 yards in his Viking debut season.
Michael Turner career backup before joining Atlanta this season and...
Players who make an NFL roster are NFL players. For one reason or another, albeit talent is surely one, they haven't had a full time opportunity. Not every player begins his career as a starter. It is more than likely that you play some sort of reserve role for a period of time before you excel. So, all of this talk about Giant backups should be put to rest.
Must Win Sunday!!!
This has to be precedent. For what might be the first time in league history, an entire division (all four teams) has something to play for on the final day of the regular season. Each NFC North team finds itself in a must win situation. The stakes for each are drastically different, but all have there price.
It Was a Team Loss!
The Vikings played hard today. They were persistent on both sides of the ball. Considering the number of times the Falcons started with great field position, the defense was able to stop them for most of the afternoon. The offense, handcuffed by the score still was able to move the ball in every situation.
It was a team loss, and by team I mean Bernard Berrian Adrian Peterson Darren Sharper there is enough blame to go around!
If I know Childress, Tavaris Jackson will be benched.
Perusing the Falcoholic...
So, itching for a football fix and having a lot of free time, I followed Gonzo's link to the Falcon-know-it-all's site and let me tell you. I respect Michael Turner and the Falcon's running game, but they seem to be a bit too excited about the prospect of facing the leagues top rush defense less one Williams.
Putting An Argument To Rest - QB Edition
Some Vikings fans, including several 'Norsemen' are under the impression Gus Frerotte's record as the starting quarterback puts to rest any discussion of quarterback controversy. The only real controversy is why Tavaris Jackson wasn't given an opportunity to reclaim his position sooner, in spite of Gus Frerotte's play, despite records.
Update:
Tavaris Jackson was named as the game 15 starter since the writing of this blog post.
Game Balls...
The Vikings played superbly this afternoon. In my opinion, the heroes and game ball recipients are...
...Firstly, Adrian Peterson had a fantastic game. He was relentless with his bruising running style while setting a MN Vikings team record for yards in a season. He is first and foremost the catalyst for success and sets the tone week in and week out.
Secondly, Tavaris Jackson stepped up like he'd been playing for the last 11 weeks. The benching of young players, especially quarterbacks, threatens to do damage not only to their egos, but also their confidence. Tavaris was having none of that! His play should have caused Childress to second guess his decision to bench him in the first place and ought to give the coaching staff reason to make a change at the position for the final run at a championship. He completed all of the passes required in the offense, smartly took an early sack and protected the ball without error. He was accurate throwing passes Gus Frerotte has struggled throwing. He truly gives the Vikings the best chance to win.
Lastly and most surprisingly, Head Coach Brad Childress deserves a game ball. Coach Childress did more than just stay out of the way of his teams success, he participated in it. The game plan was wise and he did a fantastic job in the second half controlling the clock (a 2:1 advantage I believe). Aside from the first two minutes of the second half, the team maintained its poise and composure. The team will need to score more second half touchdowns and limit mistakes, but this was a great building block game at this point in the season.
The Defense deserves an 'Honorable Mention' for its outstanding job. Limiting the Cardinals to one offensive touchdown, albeit the result of two missed tackles and a bad angle, was unexpected and warmly welcomed. Though they gave up more than 250 yards passing, the secondary was respectable - they saw more than 40 passes! Individuals who deserve mentioning are: Griffin, Sapp and of course Winfield
Go Vikes!
Would you have given a game ball to anyone else? Let me know who and highlight why!
