Alternative record-keeping

Disclaimer: I take zero credit for this style of team/divisional analysis. If any attribution can be given, I credit Darren Nelson for describing it on an interview at least 10 years ago during a KFAN interview. The basis: instead of merely comparing a team's wins and losses, compare its road wins vs home losses. The logic: every NFL team plays 16 games, and each has an equal amount of home and road games. Its hard to win on the road, so if a team does, it gets a +1. Because its so hard for road teams to win, home teams that lose get a -1. Home wins and Road losses are expected, so those games do not affect rankings. 2012 NFC Central alternate rankings: Packers: +3 Vikings: +2 Bears: +1 Lions: -5 Discuss...
