Podium Cafe The Sound of the Peloton

I can't cook, I don't have a book to give away, we've already had a hottitude thread, and I don't plan on assassinating Tourbecco.  So for this rest day thread, I looked to my ipod.  What songs capture the spirit of a rider, a team, stage, or crazy spectator?  Here are my suggestions, please add you own.

After the jump...

Neil Smith was a cyclist who made the news for a sadly common reason- he was killed in a hit and run.

When the St Petersburg Times wrote an article about this event, a commenter wrote that "A man who is working as a dishwasher at the Crab Shack at the age of 48 is surely better off dead."

While the comment was taken down, a reporter, Andrew Meacham, was moved to take a look into the life of Neil Smith, and to write about the impact his death is having on the people who he cared for and who cared for him.

Most obituaries survey the wealthy, the famous, the scandalous; people who change the world in noticeable ways. It's nice to have an obituary that recognises the humanity and relevance of every one of us.

Podium Cafe "Roads are for cars, not Lycra louts"

Miranda Devine, one of the columnists at the Sydney Morning Herald, has written an article blaming cyclists who have the temerity to think they should be able to use the road too, for inexorably leading to bike louts who dress up as Cadel Evans and beat up bus drivers (don't touch my dog!).

An excerpt from the article:

"Whoever made up the Roads and Traffic Authority's 1990s slogan ''the road is there to share'' has a lot to answer for. It's a big fat lie. The road is not there to share. Roads are built for cars. Pretending otherwise is unfair to motorists and cyclists alike.

It leads to tragic accidents and violent incidents such as the attack on a 64-year-old bus driver by a cyclist last Friday.

At 5.05am, in the pre-dawn half light a cyclist in his 30s, "dressed like Cadel Evans", says the Transport Workers Union bus industry official Darcy Waller, was riding illegally on the bus only North-West T-way near Seven Hills."

Anyway, I'd appreciate if anyone could suggest some informed rebuttals to the article, that go beyond my own initial thoughts of 'yes there are a few dickhead cyclists but that doesn't mean we're all riding around with a phallus instead of a helmet'.

I have a vague memory of hearing about some early roads somewhere being built for bikes not cars, but that may be completely wrong.

Boot faced and squeaky voiced, Cadel has nonetheless won over Richard Williams.
