McCovey Chronicles Benitez trade a treat indeed

Wow! Some unexpected news about Benitez trade

SACRAMENTO- San Francisco general manager Brian Sabean sealed a deal Saturday evening to reunite the Giants much maligned closer Armando Benitez with his former team the Florida Marlins in a trade which might surprise even the most savvy baseball fans.

Although the details of the trade are not finalized, it appears Benitez will be traded to Florida in return for a "jumbo box" of David sunflower seeds containing 24 individually wrapped packages of original flavored seeds.

In an interview following Saturday's game, Sabean seemed visibly excited about the deal.
"It really is a win-win situation," Sabean said.  "Armando rejoins his former team and we get to take on 81 years of major league experience by adding David Sunflower Seeds to our clubhouse."

By trading Benitez Sabean not only regains the support of countless frustrated Giant's fans, but also acquires a delicious clubhouse treat.

Third baseman Pedro Feliz spoke with reporters about the much needed boost this trade may provide the team.

"Sunflower seeds, no way, awesome," Feliz said.  "Mando used to hog all the peanuts like he was Mr.Peanut himself."

This announcement comes following an injury plagued season in 2006 and more recently a ninth inning meltdown against the Mets in which Benitez sent the tying run home on two balks before giving up a walk-off homerun to Carlos Delgado.
