Gracie Fighter Comments On Dan Henderson and UFC Fighters Coming To Strikeforce:

Jake Shields was elated upon hearing the news Strikeforce had signed Dan Henderson. The Jiu-jitsu blackbelt has been on a 13 fight win streak and has steamrolled all challengers in Strikeforce and in the now defunct EliteXC show.

Dan Henderson is a big name fight. Having headlined several shows in Pride and in the UFC, the veteran is the type of fighter a true champion looks forward to facing. A win over the crafty fighter at the 185lbs weight would catapult Shields to the top of the world's pound for pound elite.

To Jake it's always been about testing himself and looking for the next challenge. In the past it seemed as if he would have to go to the UFC in order to do that. Fortunately it now seems that the UFC's best could very well be coming to him.

Today, Henderson told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) that he wouldn't be surprised if more top-level fighters follow his example and explore options outside of the sport's biggest promotion.

"It's inevitable," Henderson said. "For a while, there wasn't any other options, and fighters were not really keen on that idea of not having a place to shop around. They weren't real happy with the UFC kind of having a monopoly on everything. It's their way or the highway, and now there is another option. That makes [fighters] feel a little more comfortable."

"If I was the only guy over there and would walk through everybody that they had, I wouldn't have gone over. Strikeforce has some guys that are going to challenge me. I don't do this just for the money or whatever. I do it for the challenge. If none of these matchups were going to excite me or give me goosebumps, then I'm not going to do it. ATO confirms Monson Signing With Strikeforce at 205:

Former UFC heavyweight #1 contender Jeff Monson has signed with Strikeforce ATO has learned through a source close to the fighter. Monson will debut in Strikeforce in 2010 and likely drop to 205.

Monson has won 7 out of his last 8 fights. He dropped a unanimous decision to Pedro Rizzo in Brazil back in September. "The Snowman" has fought a who’s who of MMA heavyweights. Monson defeated TUF 10 winner Roy Nelson back in March. There was a four year stretch from 2003 to 2006 where he won 16 straight fights.

Shine Fights III Set For March 2010: Mayorga, Lombard vs Cacareco, Ninja vs Vitale, Villefort vs Thompson

Budding MMA promotion Shine Fights has booked Hector Lombard vs Cacareco to serve as the co-main event for the yet to be named third promotional event. The main event will feature boxing bad boy Ricardo Mayorga versus a yet to be announced opponent.

Shine Fight’s card is taking shape, and the manager Alex Davis revealed to TATAME.com five bouts that will take place at March 2010. Coming from two fast submission victories at Jungle Fight, former IFL fighter Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira faces Bellator champion Hector Lombard, who’s undefeated since 2006, winning 16 fights.

Former UFC and WEC fighter, the Brazilian Danillo "Indio" Villefort, who won six out o the last seven fights, faces Nick Thompson, who won 38 out of 51 fights in the career. After the unanimous decision victory at Shine Fights 2, Luiz "Buscape" Firmino rematches Luiz Azeredo, who defeated him at Pride Bushido 6.

In a recent article by MMAJunkie, Todd Moore called out Mayorga, hoping to "defend" MMA against Boxing:

"I want to fight Ricardo Mayorga," Moore said.

A former professional boxing champion, the 35-year-old Mayorga (0-0 MMA, 29-7-1 Boxing) signed with Shine Fights in September. Moore said he's the perfect first opponent for Mayorga's professional MMA debut.

"I heard that [Mayorga and his camp] don't want to take on any scrub or anything like that," Moore said. "I heard they want to take on more of an established guy or a quality opponent, if nothing else. I think I fit that bill really well as far as a good matchup for his first MMA bout.

"I feel [Mayorga's] people that are handling him want to ignore me as a possible matchup. I don't think they think my striking could match Mayorga's, but in the same token, I'm a guy that's never been knocked out – not even at practice. I've taken some pretty hard shots throughout the years."

Looks like Todd is not alone, as Din Thomas has also challenged Mayorga. It will be interesting to see who Shine Fights selects as Mayorgas opponent for his MMA debut.

Shine Fights, the Florida based promotion which has been expanding under the radar of many MMA fans, has recently signed a great number of Brazilian prospects and veterans. They have also gained a great deal of momentum after their Genesis and ATT Vs The World events within the past year. In terms of showcasing their events to the public, they have been working on getting a TV deal with HDNet, which has not been finalized yet. Brock Larson Cut By UFC, Looking at Strikeforce and Japan:

Following back-to-back losses Brock Larson has been cut by the UFC.

Brock Larson (26-4) re-entered the UFC when Zuffa folded the WEC welterweight division into the UFC.

In the WEC, Larson was a welterweight standout, going 4-1 in the promotion with his lone loss coming to WEC welterweight champion, Carlos Condit. At the time Larson came back to the UFC his record was 24-2 with his other loss coming to Jon Fitch in an early stint in the UFC.

Hey everybody, I’m back! (Well, sort of–at least as much as thesis writing will allow) For those who asked about NYE, here’s what I know:

Sengoku and Dynamite are indeed merging shows, and this is indeed related to Don Quijote secretly allying with FEG.

So the rumors are pretty much true. What I’m also hearing however is that DQ’s switching sponsorship has caused tensions in WVR/SRC staff.

Remember that rumors of copromotion between Sengoku and Dream aren’t new, and never happened til now since one side or other didn’t want it.

Thus, WVR is now under new management, internally. They are now seeking another financial backer for SRC to fill the place of DQ.

WVR has already booked the Ryogoku Kokugikan for March, so we may see one more show. Future shows depend on finding a financial backer.

The gist of other rumors: Ishii might debut against someone else unless Yoshida Dojo is well-repped on Dynamite's lineup.

From Japanese Magazine:

K1 producer Sadaharu Tanikawa said "To cooperate a event including Yoshida vs Ishii, It’s hard to do together if we don’t get a response by the end of this week, because I have to make other matches."

According to the article (which doesn’t say that this is 100% true but it’s from people involved) as SENGOKU didn’t get a TV deal (plus their bad attendance), things were getting tough, so Don Quijote’s Yasuda arranged some very secret meetings with FEG President Tanigawa to discuss a union angle which would excite MMA fans.

FEG were however originally not going to agree to this and just leave SENGOKU be until a possible death and then maybe try to sign Ishii.

However, talks came up that FEG’s sponsor, pachinko manufacturer FieLDS, will not renew their contract next year (I think the pachinko industry is doing really bad right now so FieLDS itself might be in a lot of trouble).

The article states that currently there is not just discussion about Don Quijote becoming a sponsor of FEG’s MMA branch, but buying it. The article also goes on about how things are currently difficult for K-1 as well.

FEG will NOW hold a press conference tomorrow, 11/25.

Sasahara said that rules, the fights, the weight of the fights, etc. are currently being discussed. The only thing certain is that KID won’t fight Sakuraba.

WVR GM said that SENGOKU is planned continue from next year as well. Though I wouldn’t believe what most people say about this right now.
