Why do coaches of Other conferences Have a VOTE?
Here is the question that one of the commentators from the OU / OSU game asked. Why do you need coaches from other conferences need to vote?
I was thinking about it after the TTU / OU game which screwed us the most since OU made a lot of ground in those polls ( If it was just the human poll then I am sure we would have been passed by OU).
I realized that most of these coaches ( I may be wrong here) dont necessarily care about what happens with the other conferences. For e.g why on earth would Urban Meyers care about what is happening in the Big 12- uptill now. Specially with Head coaches who are not the Mack Brown- "old school" type where their actually care about what their vote means and does and play with dignity and sportsmanship attitude.
Do you think these folks from other conferences actually paid attention and made a sound judgement before casting their vote- or did they just go" hell the number two team got beat by more than 40 points"
How many games we as fans watch and how many games we just look at the scores on espn and say " Man they got f***ed"- do we care or know the circumstances.
As I think coaches who understand the system are able to play the system to their advantage. We all know the circumstances in which the TTU and OSU games were played. Taking nothing from OU..in the end I realize Boob M$%%$%%^$^% Stoops ( this he deserves)- actually ran the scores up and then said" we just beat the number two team by 40 points and beat the team who has never lost a game at home this year by 20 points" In the end this would hold more weight compared to loosing the game at the final second of the game after a 4 game brutal stretch. The question is what would resonate with the coaches who have not seen the game nor care to?- I am not saying this is a fair way or a unfair way- all I am saying that I would definately be uncomfortable with a system where people go by numbers rather than making excellent judgements looking at all aspects and variables. The new generation head coaches have evolved just like the game of college football has- from my perspective all this boils down to numbers- and total anhilation of a team " offensively" Not necessarily defensively"
Now in my view the winners are coaches who understand the system and play it at best to their advantage- who understand voter emotions and convincing have a upper hand in the 2/3 of the pie which is in the hands of humans!- I can think of prime examples Bob Soops and Urban Meyers- Coz these per what I remember are the only two teams in the recent times I know to have really bumped the scores- perhaps in one or two cases USC- I may be off track- could be second stringers too but do feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
I for one feel that only the coaches who are in the conference should be voting perhaps it may not make a difference statistically or it may not play well all across the board-
PS: I havent proof read this- so please spare tearing it apart!

Brad Edwards from ESPN answers some Questions on his chat
Interesting thoughts- I think this guy doesnt seem to be one of the biased idiots on ESPN. I find him making really excellent and articulate judgments on the system and college football in general.. I think compared to the pro-USC and pro-SEC people who always think that Big 12 sucks no matter what this guy is always a nice read..
I have posted the link to his latest chat after this weeks BCS rankings were out...

Been Banned Before
All Longhorners,
I have been a avid reader and a follower of this site. To come clean I was banned from this site a couple of times- for obviously making thoughtless comments which at this point I figured may not have been correct but at that time I was venting frustration on my team in general for not performing to standards...more so it was directed towards the coaches- conservative playing and last years defense..which I think everyone will agree that was terrible..and rightly so my ass was chewed evertime.
However this year and hopefully for the following years I have learned the lessons and will try to place better constructive criticisms. Regarding this season- I am speechless and cant say anything about the performances we have had so far...outstanding..brilliant...amazing.. My list of hate towards other teams grows:
1) OU
2) Kansas State
3) Aggies
4) Texas Tech (Newest addition- They have to loose the next 2-).
Supporter of :
1) OSU
2) OU ( for now-YUCK!!)
ALL TIME HATER of - USC...looking at their performances this year why on god's green earth are those folks in # 5 position is completely beyond me...unbelievable...I missed the 2005 game but I pray that I see one more of those someday.
I read through PB's comments and I was impressed..everyone he nailed it right on the head!!..
To me fairly concerning was the fozzy question- I do understand GD's thought that he may not be experienced in picking up blitzes but surely he will learn and if we dont expose him enough how will he get that experience..we used him in the Tech game to little and too late....As I had feared all the way that at times when GD gets in the conservative mode he remains in it...After the 1st quarter what appeared to me was that our short passing " football 101" game of 4-5 yards per pass attempt was eliminated-Cosby went out and Shipley was covered...my thought was why dont we go long...atleast see what we get?
The Tech safeties I thought were absolutely sitting on their asses doing nothing and would have been interesting trying to challenge them a little which we did and got great results but I thought by the time this came into play the Tech folks had too much adrenalin and rhythm to be missing....though easy to say hard to do the Tech Line was just outstanding in making Colt run for his life at times..but I still think we should have been prepared for this as a contingency in case the OSU showed the world how to do it. I also think that we have relied too much on Cosby and Shipley and I was wondering what would happen if either of these guys are injured..yesterday the question was answered-we struggled at times with dropped passes and I think learning from this we have to start involving the young guys more in the playbook. Williams, Collins etc are playmakers and they have height advantage which both Shipley and Cosby may not have-however combing the experience with the physical attributes will positively have better outcomes I feel-thought it doesnt matter what I feel it matter;s what the coaches do. I do give it to GD that going back to the football basics he has achieved amazing results..
Finally I have a new respect for Colt...he has been amazing this year and I know he will carry this form into next year- I loved the way we fought back and kept fighting- I dont blame for Colt leaving too much time on the clock- since for starters it shouldnt have to be this close-which I think most of us agree. While the only hope I had going into this game was that we have experienced 2 game with OSU and OU going to thr 4rth quarters and were better conditioned and experienced then Tech was and this was why we were going to come away with a victory-but the failure of our offense to start in the 1st half gave Tech way too much advantage and rhythm we couldnt beat- we tried but was too much.
Last thoughts I do think that this being my first post there would be many thoughts that appear to be leading somewhere but stop short- I am a little rusty.. At the same time I for one have not been able to sleep at all yesterday- everytime I closed my eyes I had a image of the Blake missed catch- Though I dont blame him in general we had a poor performance all around.
I hope others here did sleep better than I did- Another kicker is that I am UT graduate but not from Austin- but from Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas- and at the same time I started to follow football 2 years back- and had no fucking idea that it would be this awesome!!..
All we can do is win out the remaining games and hope other mess up- which inself may be selfish but I dont give a shit- I want UT to be there.
Anyone know what happened to Cosby- I was in a bar and the fucking Sooner fans were making too much noise for me to hear what they were saying- Is there a chance he will be in next week?
Like always-
Hook em horns!!
and GO OU AND OSU
