If you think that NCAA refs don't know how to properly call a charge
you're right - well, at least according to Coach Izzo and John Adams, NCAA director of referees. Interesting reads.
Grumpy Snowmen have invaded East Lansing!
Spartan pride is at stake!
"Across MSU campus, rival Big Ten schools have set up snow forts populated with Grumpy Snowmen. Help Sparty rid campus of these pesky snowmen in this whimsical game!"
The Games for Entertainment and Learning Lab, which is somehow related to the MSU College of Communications, Arts & Sciences has made a game very similar to Angry Birds, except with a vital twist - in this game, you are Sparty, and you must use an arsenal of footballs, basketballs, baseballs, volleyballs, & hockey pucks, to eradicate the plague of rival B1G snowmen that have invaded EL & threaten to take over our campus, and very existence!!
It's a fun little game, can be downloaded to your iDevice, Android, computer, or even play it online. The rival snowman seem to prefer congregating in front of MSU's most historic buildings & locales, and after you restore order and honor to MSU when you clear each level, Sparty will do a dance & then share a unique fact about that location with you!
Best part is, this game was entirely made by current MSU CAS students. Well done – download this free app today to show your support!
Hockey on TV tonight!
(Bumped. We'll use this as the hockey open thread for tonight.)
Nationally, too, it's on CBS College Sports Network! Click on this link, then in the lower right hand corner, enter your zip code & TV provider to find the local channel.
This is a huge game, as we know from Spartan Dan's analysis, as it has a major impact on seeding for the CCHA tournament, and presumabley, the NCAA tourney as well.
Puck drops at 835 pm ET, and here's a link to the gametracker from MSU's athletics site.
Proposed new Spartan Stadium Scoreboards revealed
The MSU Athletic Department has released artist's conceptions of the proposed new audio and video systems to be installed in Spartan Stadium. These include a large, presumably HD video board in the south end zone that will have stats on it, and two smaller video boards in the corners of the north (river side) endzone. Also in the north end zone will be what's called a "Video Fascia," or video ribbon.
The proposed upgrades were approved in the fall by the board of trustees, and are said to cost $8mm, which will be entirely funded by the athletic department. So we should all send a huge Thank You to the Izzos & Magic Johnson, each of whom made a $1mm gift to the athletic department this fall.
Also, I couldn't find the tweet, but I remember for a fact that Greg Ianni (walk-on Anthony's dad, and Hollis's Assistant AD at MSU) tweeted over the summer about these upgrades, saying something along the lines of them being "revolutionary." Props to whomever can find that tweet.
Two more football verbals
Looks like Coach D got two more class of 2012 verbals over the weekend, from three star Toledo safety Mark Meyers, and unrated/two-star/three-star/son of a CFL legend DT out of Oregon David Fennell.
I don't know anything about Fennell other than what I just typed in the last sentence, but let's hope that Meyers turns out like the last 3 star, not heavily recruited, Ohio DB that we nabbed - Mr. Johnny Adams. The two have very similar measurables (though Meyers has about 25 lbs on Adams, as of senior year HS), and for both, were being recruited by MAC level & lower tier B1G teams before MSU came in & swooped them up.
Cool, old, random Alan Anderson article
Found this today when I was searching for the game that AA missed two FTs late (kind of like DayDay last night, except we lost Anderson game), and I stumbled across this artice by Larry Fitzgerald, Sr., father of the Cardinals wideout. Apparenlty, he & AA are best friends from growing up together in Minny!!
First Outback Bowl Preview
I wish our men best of luck; may they come back in one piece.
Record Expectations? Kirk Cousins has got them covered.
2011 has been a remarkable, record setting season in Spartan football, one of the best in school history. While the conference championship game didn't go our squads way, that doesn't diminish from the incredible accomplishments on the field both during this season, and throughout the careers, of some of the most noted Spartans, especially senior captain & starting QB Kirk Cousins.

MSU athletics Blackberry app!
This is a really cool app, it's not a link to the MSU Athletics website, but rather, a real live app that has actual content on it!
A great way to have access to all of the official MSU athletics info while you're waiting for a pre-trial conference, on the can, or any other time when you have a few minutes to kill & a Spartans sports fix to fulfill!!
BT Powerhouse MSU hoops preview
Hoops season starting soon - exhibition vs. Ferris State in less than two weeks!
Also, if you haven't done so already, check out the updated player profiles on the official athletic site, (this one links to the most recent one, for Brandon Wood), they are pretty cool!
Delvon Roe's career comes to an end at MSU due to degenerative knee pain.

Best. Audio. Ever.
Heard this on the radio today & couldn't wait to hear it again! The first 55 seconds or so are not our style, but it gets better quickly.
I am pumped for football!!!!
2 deep released for YSU game
(Bump. Sums up what I wanted to say about the depth chart - Ed.)
Not as many "ors" as I expected (4 on each side of the ball).
Here's what stood out to me:
C - Treadwell listed as an or with RS frosh Travis Jackson.
LT - McGaha or France.
RT - Sky Burkland ahead of transfer Fou Fonoti.
TE - Linthicum & Celek listed as starters, ahead of Dion Sims.
RB - Baker listed as primary, Caper or Bell as 2nd string.
DE - Marcus Rush listed as or with Denzel Drone. Who is Rush? i'm not familliar with him.
DE - Gholston listed as 1st string along with Ty Hoover. Not to be dramatic, but Gholston needs to step it up this season, lest he become like William Campbell down in AA.
DT/NT - Worthy, White & Pickelman are some big boys. I think this will be the strength of the D, though with his mobility I figured Pickelman was more of a DE.
LBs - Lawrence Thomas not even on the depth chart. Does this mean he's likely reshirting now? True frosh Taiwan Jones liste as 3rd strong-side (STAR) LB.
CB - After Johnny Adams, there is some serious inexperience at the corner positions. Dennard played a little last season, Mitchell White hasn't been seen in ages.
Capital One Mascot Challenge
Sparty has a huge first round matchup vs. Buzz, the Georgia Tech Yellowjacket.
Vote early, vote often, and let's help Sparty stomp out this rabies carrying insect!*
* Disclaimer - I don't really know if bees carry rabies.
Congrats to the baseball team
7-1 win over Purdue in 2nd round of the B1G Baseball Tournament!
Looks like our starter went 8 strong innings, giving up a homer in the 3rd & 5 other hits, while we chased their pitcher early in the 2nd after lighting him up for 4 runs.
Up next tomrrow at 7 EST - winner of the OSU-Illinois game, which just started on BTN!!
My favorite TOC post of all time
Looks like it's in need of a slight update (and not the good kind, as in, add these guys to the list). But 'Zog, Sherm, Allen & Lucious need to go off the "4 year" list.
Still a great post, though!!
"We are not going to just take anybody, either," Izzo said. "We are looking at a couple kids in Ohio. We are not relying on (this potential recruit) to be any kind of savior."
