Behind the Steel Curtain Final Mock-Draft before the Actual

I started to do some research and decided to do one more Mock with some alternative possibilities.  Here we go.

Round 1: Nate Solder  OT Colorado

I am going to have to go with BTSC with this one; I think Solder will fall.   He is a great athletic prospect but a little raw in his technique.  He has a major upside and could be a premier tackle in this league; something we need badly.  I know we haven't met with him and probably won't but I think he has the athleticism and footwork we need to protect Ben and his scrambling.  The guy is over 300 pounds and ran a 4.97 40.. that is unreal.  I would absolutely love this pick.

Other Options: Derek Sherrod LT Mississippi State, Brandon Harris CB Miami, Aaron Williams CB Texas

Round 2: Curtis Brown  CB Texas

This pick really excites me and apparently the Steelers as well.  Curtis Brown was exceptional at Texas, especially with the great depth at DB they have had the past 2 seasons.  He has great speed and ball skills, and really isn't scared to tackle.  He isn't the first round grade, but I believe he would be a low first round pick in a regular CB class.  Great value and CB is a great need.

Other Options: Marcus Cannon G TCU, Orlando Franklin G Miami, Brandon Burton CB Utah

Round 3: Kendrick Ellis NT Hampton

Casey Hampton's days are drawing to an end, though sad to say.  Ellis is too much of a prospect to pass up; and we have already met with him.  I like him over Sione Fua due to his size, strength, and suprising athleticism.  His work ethic is sometime in question, but with a guy that is 340 lbs, it is hard to go forever.  He would occupy multiple blockers and he has a great upside.

Other Options: Davon House CB NM State, Sione Fua NT Stanford, Marcus Gilbert RT Florida

Round 4: John Moffitt G/C Wisconsin

The Steelers love versatility and Moffitt exhibits that with the ability to move over and place Center and possibly even Tackle.  He is a tough, gritty, Steelers type player with brute strength.  He is an All-Big-Ten First Team player and has the ability to start sooner rather than later.  I know we whiffed on a previous Wisconsin guard (Urbik), but I believe the Steelers try again and succeed.

Other Options: Casey Matthews ILB Oregon, Deunta Williams FS NCU, Lawrence Guy DE Arizona State

Round 5: Jalil Brown CB Colorado

I think Jalil will pan out in the NFL better than his partner Jimmy Smith.  He has great size at 6-1 205 and ran a 4.46 at his combine.  He can be groomed to play CB or FS in the NFL, both positions of need for the Black and Gold. Great value here.

Other Options: DeAndre Brown WR Southern Miss, Mark Herzlich LB BC, Ian Williams NT Notre Dame

Round 6: Alex Henery K/P Nebraska

We need a kicker, badly.  Henery is the best kicker and I am on the bandwagon.  He needs to put on weight, but he has a monster leg and has the ability to punt.  This is good since Sepulveda is like a paper doll as of late.

Other Options: Anthony Gray NT Southern Miss, Derek Locke RB Kentucky, Lee Ziemba OL Auburn

Round 7: Owen Marecic LB/FB Stanford

I don't have to explain this high character guy.  A tough-nosed, dedicated player who played his college career in two positions.  Scored touchdowns on both sides of the ball and did it at a high level.  This would be a miracle and next to impossible to drop this far, but what a great pick this would be.  Depth at LB, ST, and the ability to play FB.  Not that our offense likes full-backs anyway.

Other Options: Scott Tolzien QB Wisconsin, Tori Gurley WR South Carolina, Josh Bynes ILB Auburn

Mocking The Draft Steelers Mock Draft 2.0/ Free Agency

Here is my crack at the 2011 draft.

Round 1: Derek Sherrod OT Mississippi State

Originally my pick was Mike Pouncey but I think we have no chance with Chicago, Indy, and Philly looking for help at OL. Brandon Harris is thought of as too small (5'9"-5'10") and isn't experienced in zone coverage. This leads me to believe we will target Derek Sherrod, who fills a huge need for us as he could be our future LT/RT. It also helps that his brother Desmond on our roster for years. With Maurkice, Colon (hopefully re-signed), and Sherrod.. we would have a solid OL.  We need to now look at RG help.

Round 2: Curtis Brown CB Texas

Curtis Brown is a great athlete and coverage man, which we need.  Decent speed and size and he excels with man to man or zone coverage.  He looked excellent when I saw him at the senior bowl in January and has me wanting his talent for the 2011 season.  I know Steeler Nation loves Ras I Dowling, but I think even a 2nd rounder is too much of a risk to take on someone who is constantly injured in college; imagine his health in the Pros.  We need talent on the defensive side and I think he gives us this.

Round 3: Sione Fua NT Stanford

Sione had a remarkable season and is constantly rising in draft boards.  He, in my opinion, is a safer and more valueable pick than Kendrick Ellis or Ian Williams.  His only concern in my opinion is his weight, which with Hampton's help shouldn't be a problem.  He could be a 3 down lineman and he has exhibited a great motor.  I believe he can be our NT of the future and see playing time this season.

Round 4: Davon House CB New Mexico State

We need more than just one DB taken in this draft.  House hs great speed and height.  He has been marked to weigh around 200, but previously I saw him weighed in at around 178-180 (big difference).  He posted a 4.43 at the combine and has shown exceptional coverage and ball skills.  We need his speed and I can guarantee that a few corners won't stick on our roster.  I can see us moving forward with Lewis, Gay, Butler, and hopefully Ike, but we are not guaranteed.  Don't forget that we also have Donovan Warren out of Michigan, who was once thought of as a late first rounder in 2010.  Nonetheless, we could benefit from 2 versatile DBs in this draft.

Round 5: Lee Ziemba OT/G Auburn

There is no question we need talent along the offensive line.  We need depth at OL and good talent.  I am not sold on the revolving door that is Essex, Foster, and Legursky.  I like Legursky the most out of the 3, but he should be our reserve center.  Lee can play both T and G spots and has excelled solidifying the National Championship War Eagle O-Line. This could be our answer at RG.

Round 6: Alex Henery K Nebraska

This is absolutely he latest that Henery would fall.  He is an extremely accurate kicker and has great power, especially for his lanky frame (175lbs).  It is not an immediate need, but if he falls, he would be our BPA.  Suisham is not the answer long term and only showed slight sparks of talent at the beginning of the season.

Round 7: Preston Dial TE/FB Alabama

The Steelers love versatility.  Dial has been exceptional with the Tide this season and should translate that to the pros.  He loves to engage in blocking and will catch passes when needed.  He fits out H-Back mold and should make us forget about Spaeth if/when he leaves.

Possible Free Agent Pickups

James Jones WR (Green Bay) - If Green Bay doesn't re-sign him, we need to hop on him and get the ink to the paper.  Many people have stated that this guy could be a 1000 yd reciever year in and out if not for Greg Jennings and Donald Driver.  He has a magnificent upside and should be targeted.  His only downside is that he sometimes lacks concentration, clean route running, and drops a few. Love this guy.

Mike Hart RB (Indy) -  Hart had a outstanding college career but has been buried in the depth chart in Indianapolis.  He has faced a few injury concerns but when given the opportunity, he has been really successful averaging 4.3 yards per carry.  He is only 25 and could come at a reasonable price.  With the uncertainty of Mewelde, we could use a Steelers type back, which he is.

Jameel McClain ILB (Ratbirds)- I know, I know.  I hate to say it but I liked the way he plays.  He would be an upgrade over Keyaron Fox and he has the versatility we like.  Would come at a cheap price and Fox is most likely not coming back.  Unless we find someone we like on the practice squads, undrafted FA, or elsewhere..he would be a good pickup.

Matt Roth DE/OLB (Brownies)- I really liked Roth at the Dolphins and followed him to the Brownies and still was slightly impressed.  He has a good motor and has the ability to be DE or OLB.  Serviceable backup and stll fairly young (28).

Behind the Steel Curtain Post Senior Bowl Mock Draft

I got the opportunity to go to the Senior Bowl in Mobile again this year and I liked what I saw, particuarly from the linebackers.  Casey Matthews, Von Miller, and Kelvin Sheppard all impressed me.  Of course, we will never be able to reach for Von Miller, and I think he would excel more in a 4-3 defense anyway.  Here is my ideal mock for the Steelers, even though it is usually BPA.

Round 1: Pick 32- Mike Pouncey- G/C Florida

Pouncey wouldn't be a reach for this pick because we are pretty much picking in the 2nd round.  He fits our blocking scheme and his brother played with him for years; this is the chemistry we need.  I think it would be an easy resign and both can anchor our line for years to come.

Round 2: Pick 64- Curtis Brown CB Texas

I like Curtis Brown over Ras-I-Dowling.. he is 6 foot and a little lighter than I would like (185) but he would be an upgrade over what we have.  Ras-I has great size (6-2, 200) but he lacks agility and speed to be relevant I think; his hips aren't very fluid either.  I saw Brown play in the Senior Bowl and I think that he would be more feesable than Burton or Dowling here.

Round 3:  Jerell Powe NT Ole Miss

Boom Boom Powe will most definitely drop to the 3rd round if the draft were next week.  His motor and work ethic has been in question but I think with the Steeler way, he will pan out masterfully.  He has great size and strength and seems to be in the mold of Hampton as a NT of the future.

Round 4: - Casey Matthews ILB Oregon

Due to the fact that the Matthews bloodline is nothing but success, I want a Matthews on the Steelers.  In the Senior Bowl I focused on Matthews and watched him make plenty of plays and he was always near the ball.  He would be a good ILB in our system opposed to OLB because he naturally fits the ILB mold, and he would be a good complement to Timmons/S. Slyvester in the future.  Steeler Nation would love this pick.

Round 5:- DeAndre Brown WR Southern Miss

Williams from NC was originally my pick, but I did research and decided not only would he be a bad prospect due to character concerns, but he would definitely be gone by the 3rd when we pick most likely.  I attend Southern Miss and I have watched Brown play for 3 years.  He is sick when he applys himself and goes all out.  He has been known to slack but his talent is unreal.. size too.  He got demoted to 3rd string this year and played situationally, but he would be a raw NFL talent.  He is a Steeler if I have ever seen one.  Southern Miss stud at Steelers? I think so.

Round 6:-  Greg McElroy QB Alabama

McElroy had a weak, weak Senior Bowl performance.  He can save himself in the combine and Pro Day, if he succeeds he could rise.  He is a Pro-style player and has the heart of a winner.  He could be a very good back-up in the NFL and could shine in limited time.  Back-up for the future.

Round 7:- Jake Rogers K Cincy

Suisham is good, but I cringe everytime he gets passed the 45.  We need a big kicker with a big leg.  Seeing is how Alex Henerey will be long gone and I am not sold on LSU's Jasper, we go with someone closer to Pittsburgh.  A FA could be signed as well

Undrafted FA possibly picked up:

Trevor Hankins (P -A. State), Brian Lainhart (S K. State), Preston Dial (FB/TE Bama), Jah Reid (T UCF), Armando Allen (RB Notre Dame), Cory Grant (DT/DE TCU), Jamari Lattimore (LB Middle Tennessee)

Behind the Steel Curtain DB in the draft is not a necessity obviously

Even I myself was a little upset to not get Morgan Burnett, Brandon Ghee, or some other dbs that fell, but I have a lot of faith in the FO.  Keenan Lewis, Kraig Urbik, and Joe Burnett are very unproven to this point and I tend to think that the FO must see something outstanding in them that they do not see in the other picks today.  I trust that they evaluated every sitation and did not let anything slip by them.  After all, we have had a history or outstanding draft picks.  I see Lewis and Burnett pressing for serious playing time at DB, and us reaching for one DB and a S as depth these later rounds.  I really like the idea of having Scrabble in the mix, Myron Rolle is not shut out completely yet either.  Dominique Franks, AOA, Rolle, Stuckey, Walter McFadden, and a slew of great value picks are still on the board.  The front office obviously analyzed the needs and picked players in that best demonstrated what they were looking for.   Calm Down.

Behind the Steel Curtain McClain had Crohn's Disease- Could hurt stock

Rolando McClain- ILB from Bama just came public with his illness.  He was forced to leave his Pro Day early due to sickness.  This could potentially harm his stock with the top 15 teams.  Although it might be a risk, stars like David Garrard have not been slowed down with the illness.  I would love to see this instinctive mad man in B and G.  As productive as he's been, why wouldn't we want him?

Mocking The Draft Post Combine and FA Mock Draft for Steelers

Ok so yesterday was huge for Steeler Nation.  I am estatic about our 4 FA signings and I believe I speak for the nation.  We have signed playmakers without breaking the bank and we haven't even gotten to the draft yet! I have complied what I think our draft will look like after all this action has happened.  I believe we will draft BPA but then again I see a lot of players that could be in black and gold.  Need meets value here.

1st- Mike Iupati G Idaho-  Ok so I wasn't sold on this pick until yesterday.  I don't believe that Steelers have a terrible, piss poor line like everyone says, but it sure hasn't been the same since Faneca left a few years ago.  I think that we avoid Earl Thomas in rd. 1 and go with a sure pro bowler; unless Haden, Berry, or McClain somehow fall.

2nd- Morgan Burnett S Georgia Tech- Burnett is a true playmaker and would most likely be a first if the draft wasn't so deep.  I like his intangibles along with his smarts and size.  I see him learning under Clark and turning into a great Safety in a few years.  Steelers might also take a hard look at Brandon Spikes and Nate Allen at this pick.

3rd- Sean Lee ILB Penn State- A lot of people are high on ILBs  from TCU and Miami but I have to disagree.    I'd go with a solidified playmaker and somone who could learn from Farrior and eventually take the other ILB spot in the 3-4.

4th- Ben Tate RB Auburn-  Ben Tate would be a "steel" here.  He didn't exactly live up to his potential but he had a solid year this year and a great combine.  He could be the speedy complement to Mendenhall seeing is how he ran a 4.4 40.  He is also 220 lbs. and seems as more of a complete back than Parker was.

4th Comp. (for McFadden) Myron Lewis CB/FS Vandy- Lewis has good size and potential to be a NFL playmaker.  He could learn in the dime and you know how Tomlin likes versatility.

5th- Jay Ross NT East Carolina- I am from Soutthern Miss and in CUSA we had the misfortune of playing against Ross.  He is described as your typical mid round NT, but he has a good motor and decent size.  Could develop into a great backup; unsure as to if he has the ability to be a replacement for Hampton/Hoke.

6th- Colin Peek TE Alabama-  I see that Spaeth signed his tender, McHugh is unsure of his future, as with David Johnson, but I'd hate to pass up on Heath Miller Jr.  He is a great blocker, opposite of the huge Spaeth, and he is a great target.  Watched him in the Senior Bowl and he tore it up.  I want him as a Steeler.

6th Comp. (For Washington) Sean Canfield QB Oregon State-  He is used to playing at a higher level against tough competition.  He could develop into a great 3rd QB, maybe even a backup for the Corrupt Ben.  Had great workouts and I am high on his potential.

7th- Dexter Davis OLB Arizona St.- We need depth at OLB for the aging Harrison.  Under him and Woodley we really have no other playmakers besides the Undrafted Bailey.

All in all I am pumped about the draft.

Mocking The Draft Senior Bowl- Post Game Draft Prospects review

Well.. sat out in the bitter cold at the Senior Bowl in Mobile and this is what I got from the game.

- Dan Williams occupied at least 2 blockers each time I saw him.  Good size, good motor.  I like this guy alot.

- Terrence Cody didn't look good at all to me... barely saw him on the field.  Too hefty.  Made Williams look like a light weight.  He's 370 and occupied 2 blockers on each play...but when you are pushing 400lbs... that is what is expected of you obviously.  I'd be nervous of a heart attack on the field.

-Javier Arenas looked like a good lock down guy, just lacks size.. would be tough to cover big recievers like Moss or A Johnson

-McCluster got ate alive by the defense on most plays... made a few good plays though. Maybe a better bet to return kicks and punts.  Maybe even a change of pace guy.

- Taylor Mays looked like a good player on the field.  Made a really good read on the interception and he is seriously huge.  He made Myron Rolle look like a mouse. Still not sold on him though.

- Blount is really good... he is a man.  Showed good vision and backed it up by his power.

- Tebow looked like a scrub under center, serious QB or H-back project.

- Tony Pike is a giant.. didn't look too bad.

- Michigan's Grahm is a great player, had an awesome game.  Michigan has some good DEs now.. Lamarr Woodley clone.

- Mardy Gilyard looked really good too despite having poor reviews in Senior Bowl practice. I even liked his return ability.

- Colin Peek ..TE from Bama was my favorite player of the day by far.  I really like the way this guy  plays and he seriously looks like a lineman on the field.

There are some seriously good prospects coming out this year...thoughts?

Behind the Steel Curtain Senior Bowl- Draft Prospects

Well.. just left the bitter cold Senior Bowl in Mobile and this is what I got from the game.

- Dan Williams occupied at least 2 blockers each time I saw him.  Good size, good motor.

- Terrence Cody didn't look good at all... barely saw the field.  Too fat.  Made Williams look like a light weight.  He's not worth our first round.

-Javier Arenas looked like a good lock down guy, just lacks size.. would be tough to cover big recievers like Moss or A johnson

-McCluster got ate alive by the defense on most plays... made a few good plays though. Maybe a better bet to return kicks and punts.

Mocking The Draft Steelers Draft Updated 1/17

I've done a few mocks so far, but I figured I'd give another update to a mock draft.  I don't think that the Steelers will trade up for anyone unless they drop to a reasonable position.  I think that the Steelers will stick to whoever drops unless there is an opportunity too good to pass up.  Here goes.

Round 1: Earl Thomas S Texas- If Thomas were to fall, he would fill a great need at Safety.  I would love to see us trade up for McClain or Berry if by miracle they drop to a reasonable spot, but I don't see it happen so we stick to a different route.  Another option if Hampton doesn't resign is Dan Williams out of Tenn.

Round 2: Brandon Spikes LB Florida- His coverage and his issue with eye-gougeing has been in question but if the guy falls even clos to us in the 2nd (which he probably will unless he has a moster combine and pro-day), the Steelers will snag him as an eventual replacement for Farrior.  This is one of our needed positions and he has the size, speed, and leadership for the position.  If safety is passed up in 1st- Morgan Burnett or Reshad Jones would be a good pickup.

Round 3: Sam Young OT Notre Dame-  Big sized, good motored player who was a high point on a decent offensive line.  He would play any position on the line that could be a great cornerstone for our line.  Colon probably wont be moved inside, but if he did, Young could be a great addition to a need not filled in a few years.  John Jerry OG could be another player to fill this need.

Round 4: Walter McFadden CB Auburn- I am really high on this guy.  I know we drafted 2 last year, but this guy is a great talent and could be a huge pickup.  I don't think we have anymore use for Gay and DeShea will probably retire which leaves us with Taylor and the rookies.  Madison has been strictly special teams and I think McFadden could fill a gap.  Another Route could be LB Micah Johnson from KY (Steelers have kept their eye on him)

Compensatory Round 4: Vince Oghobaase DT Duke-  I honestly think that Hampton will resign, that is the FO's biggest objective of the offseason.  We do, however we do need some more youth on the D line.  He is around 6'6" and 315 lbs.  Good size for a project of D line.

Round 5: Charles Scott RB LSU-  He has good size and speed.  Carried LSU this season, but does have durablility issues.  I would like to have a decent complement to the up and coming Rashard Mendenhall.  I also like Ben Tate from Auburn, similar size and running style.

Compensatory Round 5:  Shay Hodge WR Ole Miss- Shay Hodge would be a steal at this position.  We have a great group of recievers, but I would like to see one more play maker to make this team complete.  Sweed is still unproven I know, but I think that if we can catch Hodge, then we should. Tyler Grisham played decent when I saw him play, but I think that we need a more explosive field player.  Great size and he was an all star at Ole Miss.  Could play return man as well.

Round 6: Colin Peek TE Bama- Spaeth has turned out to be a less than succesful TE in the NFL.  He might could excell in an offense who utilizes 2 pass catching TEs, but not in Pittsburgh.  Peek is the kind of Dual threat in blocking and pass catching that Miller is.  Instant boost in the offense.

Compensatory Round 6: Jon Conner FB Kentucky: Not the one from the Terminator.  We need a true fullback and this one seems like a good prospect.  I know it's never going to happen but let us dream.

Round 7:  Case Keenum QB Houston- Great college QB, but a real project for NFL.  Was more of a system QB and probably go undrafted, regardless of his accomplishments at Houston.  Batch will probably retire and become Ben's coach if I were to guess, so we might need a 3rd QB under Dixon.

This draft would be my idea of filling needs, it works on all areas of our team.  I would say drafting a LS and K but these guys you can find just fine in undrafted rookie FA.  Let me know what you think.

Behind the Steel Curtain 2010 Steelers Mock Draft updated

Behind the Steel Curtain Possible solution to NT woes

I was thinking about it and looking through our roster.  I see that Sonny Harris is about 321 lbs.  He's probably about 10 lbs. lighter than Hampton. If Hampton doesn't resign, maybe we could start him out at NT in practice and see how it goes.  He's got similar size..not monsterous, but decent.  We could draft another DE to groom and see how it works out.  If worse comes to worse we still have Hoke and there is alot of NT coming out in FA.  Thoughts?

Mocking The Draft Steelers Mock Draft

The Steelers will most likely be somewhere around the 16th pick.

  1. Rolando McClain- Linebacker (Ala)- The Steelers need a replacement for the aging James Farrior.  Another option if they are available are- FS Taylor Mays, or CB Joe Hayden
  2. Dan Williams DT- (Tenn)- Due to Casey Hampton's age, an immediate need for DT to groom will be addressed through the draft. Another Option here is S Morgan Burnett, DT Terrance Cody, or CD Ras-I Howling
  3. Anthony Dixon- This guy would be a steal, he is a tough, gritty, Steelers style player that a new OC needs. Other thoughts could be LB Micah Johnson, CB Javier Arenas, or Mike Johnson OL
  4. Maurice Pouncey OL Florida- A big tough, physical lineman to groom on a slow to connect Oline. Other Options could be OL Sam Young, OL Mike Pouncey, or WR Dexter McCluster
  5. COMPENSATORY PICK
  6. Dexter McCluster WR Ole Miss- Due to his lack of size, he'll probably fall somewhere in the mid to late rounds.  He has athleticism that is much needed and could strongly boost the return game.  Other picks could be RB Ben Tate, RB Charles Scott, or WR Terrance Tolliver
  7. Leigh Tiffin K Alabama- This guy is Bama's all time leading scorer.  He has a strong and accurate leg and could boost special teams.  Other Options CB Walter McFadden, DE Antonio Coleman, or RB Damion Fletcher
  8. Clint Gresham LS TCU- Due to injuries to Greg Warren back to back, the Steelers will most likely be shopping for a good prospect.  Other Viable options could be FB Richard Dickson, FB Clay Harbor or QB Todd Reesing

Behind the Steel Curtain 2010 DREAM DRAFT-what's yours?

1st Round--S- Trade up to get Eric Berry Tenn (lose a 4th rounder).. We need a feasible backup to Troy and one that could possibly play opposite of him.
2nd Round-- NT- Dan Williams Tenn if he is available (someone to play behind Hampton and Hoke to groom because Hampton will resign)
3rd Round-- RB or OL- Anthony Dixon MSU, Ben Tate AUB, or Brandon Minor MICH---OR John Jerry Ole Miss, Mike Johnson BAMA, or Sam Young ND. (We need a complement to up and coming Mendenhall do to Parker's aparent departure) (We need depth and talent on our oline obviously)

4th Round comp (possible compensation for BMac or Nate Washington leaving via FA)-- LB- Micah Johnson KY or Antonio Coleman AUB (We need someone to groom other than Pat Bailey at linebacker and the Bruce Davis project has failed)

5th Round--WR or RB- Dexter McCluster Ole Miss (this guy is just an athlete- we lack an all around athlete like Percy Harvin, Darren Sproles, and Joshua Cribbs and one who is an actual threat to return kicks)

6th Round-- FB- Richard Dickson LSU- (even though we have H-backs.. we don't have a true FB.  Send Summers to practice squad and David J. as the blocking TE that they like to use)

7th Round-- K- Leigh Tiffin BAMA (This dude is sick.  Accurate and poised.  We need someone behind Skippy who has pretty much served his tenure)

7th Round comp-- DB- Walter McFadden AUB (This guy would be an absolute steal in the later rounds- he is projected to go undrafted but has held guys likes Julio Jones, Brandon LaFell, Riley Cooper, etc.)

This could lighten the mood from our grim losses.  Let's see everyone's dream draft for 2010

Behind the Steel Curtain Steelers work out Patrick Ramsey and Todd Bouman

Due to injuires in the QB front Pitt has brought in Pat Ramsey and Bouman to workout for a possible job per Profootballtalk.com.  I would have more faith in Ramsey behind center than Batch, Dixon, or Bouman.  He could still be a potential starter on a lesser team like Tampa Bay or even St. Louis.  This could mean that Batch will be gone at season's end and/or Ben's injury might be a little more serious.  I would love for Ramsey to be the backup in Pitt.

On another note... I would also like to see us draft a solid num. 2 running back in the draft in the 2nd or 3rd round.  I hope CJ Spiller is available in the 2nd round, but I doubt it.  We need a Safety, OLineman, or a feesable Linebacker or DT in the draft.

Behind the Steel Curtain Roethlisberger sued in a civil lawsuit

This is taken from PROFOOTBALLTALK.COM now, we know how Florio likes to stretch things with but here is the abstract.  Ben denies that he sexually assaulted anyone.

According to the web site for the Second Judicial District of Washoe County, Nevada, Andrea McNulty filed suit against Roethlisberger and several others on Friday.  Though the details currently are scant, the lawsuit generally has been categorized as a claim for defamation.

That said, other types of claims possibly are contained in the suit papers against one or more of the defendants.

Per Rosenthal's source, one or more of the other named defendants (John Koster, Guy Hyder, Mark Masters, Dave Monroe, Mike Rosenow, Debbie Neall, Bryan Casuscelli, and Stacy Dingman) currently work and/or used to work with McNulty at Harrah's, where McNulty is still employed.

Still, Roethlisberger's connection to the case is unclear.  It's possible that she claims that he did or said something to her for which civil liability could be imposed in his capacity as a customer at Harrah's.

Given that a summons was issued on Friday, Roethlisberger might have been served suit papers while in Lake Tahoe for the 20th Annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship.

As we hear it, Roethlisberger regularly visits the area.

Here is the lawsuit..

Case ID: CV09-02222 - ANDREA McNULTY VS BEN ROETHLISBERGER, ET AL (D10)
Filing Date: Friday , July 17th, 2009
Type: DF - TORTS-DEFAMATION (LIBEL/SLAND)
Status: INITIAL - Case Initiated

Behind the Steel Curtain America's Most Hated Teams/ Steelers In Top 5

In a poll taken by ESPN, Dallas overtook New England (surprisingly) to  win the title of America's most hated team

Only five teams were listed as possible answers, led by the Cowboys (36%), Patriots (34%), Steelers (12%), Giants (9%), and Raiders (9%).

I am shocked to say that the Steelers made America's top 5 most hated teams.. I'm very disappointed!

12 percent of voters hate the Steelers..must be the jealous reporters again.  We are getting snubbed right and left.  Ben isn't ranked in the top five, we are America's top five hated teams, the Madden rankings didn't do our team justice either (Santonio only 86, Ike around 88 with only 86 speed,...not that madden rankings matter), among other weak rankings.

Any thoughts??

Behind the Steel Curtain LIst of Steelers' Top Ten Most Valuable Players

This time of offseason is very boring around the NFL.  It seems like I'm watching America's Most Wanted, rather than a sporting event.  I usually check ProFootballTalk regularly, but all I hear is Chad Johnson Twittering on the sidelines of the games, who has court, who went to jail, or what fines are given out.  Here is a little something to talk about for a while hopefully.  Maybe it'll get the sour taste out of our mouths about all this pointless talk.

10.) Lamar Woodley-  Woodley has came out into his own over the last season.  He should have more sacks and plays next season due to double teams of Harrison.  He is quickly becoming a star on defense.

9.)  Ike Taylor- He covers the best WR in the league.  He doesn't have the best hands, but he is an elite corner, and definitely underrated at his position.  He is one of our quickest guys and he knows our playbook well.

8.) Heath Miller- The complete TE.  Expect him to have a monster year due to the awaiting contract.  He is a true Steeler.

7.) Aaron Smith- Again, the most underrated defensive lineman in the league.  Sure he doesn't get all the sacks, but our defensive scheme allows him to make way for our awesome LB corps; he does just what we need him to do.  A huge asset to our defense and DL.

6.) Willie Parker- I'm sure I'll get negative feedback on this one, but hear me out.  Willie made the longest SB run in history, he has 3 1000+ yard seasons (1300 before he got the leg broker, imagine what he could have had), and he is an incredible leader.  He has tremedous heart, drive, and talent.  He is not about himself, as many players are.  He has worked hard this offseason already to secure his spot; with a better synchronized OL, expect to see the old FWP.

5.) Santonio Holmes-  You hear alot that this season is Santonio's breakout year, and it very well may be.  He had huge, huge plays in the SB, resulting in his SB MVP trophy.  He is a solid reciever, and gives a great complement and eventual replacement for Hines.

4.) Hines Ward- How could anyone hate Hines Ward; beside the sissy linebackers and players that get that ass knocked out by a reciever half their size.  Hines is a leader on and off the field, a loyal player to the franchise, and a playmaker despite his age.  What a great player, HOF bound.

3.) James Harrison- Harrison has had a hell of a road to become one of the best linebackers in the league.  He made huge plays in the SB, especially the longest INT return/play in SB history.  He is a force of defense.  He doesn't make num. 1 or 2, strictly because he hasn't had the success through the seasons like other Steelers have had.

2.) Ben Roethlisberger- Ok, Deebo didn't make num. 2.  This is because Roethlisberger is a motivator, playmaker, and leader on this team.  He is an offensive force, even though he has made mistakes on the field.  The comebacks and 2 SB rings are enough to show that he is an elite QB.

1.) Troy Polamalu- He is overall the best safety in the league.  He has become one of the anchors of the best defense in years and is an intense competitor.  The guy does wonders on and off the field.  Picture our defense without this talent!

Honorable Mentions- Ryan Clark, Big Snack, DeShea Townsend, Keisel, Kemo, Mewelde, William Gay

I wanna hear everyone's top 10!
