Bye Bye Bruce
Heard on my local sports radio station that Isaac Bruce will officially retire this week. It comes as no surprise now that Martz is gone along with the plethora of young recievers we have on our roster and are hoping to get some playing time for. He had a decent year for us, hopefully he was able to teach Morgan and Hill a few things of value before he left.
My ideal recieving lineup (assuming we dont draft any top guys):
1. Josh Morgan
2. Brandon Jones
3. Jason Hill
4. Arnaz Battle (3rd downs)
I'm a Homer, but what about "Beanie" Wells?
Let me preface this FanPost by saying that I'm new to Niners Nation, but it has consumed my life ever since I discovered it! I love that we (49ers die-hard fans) all have a place to go to voice our opinions and share our views about the team, and sometimes, bitch and complain too! I'm from southern California, but grew up a Niners fan. I've lived in Ohio since I was 13, and grew to be an Ohio State Buckeye fan over the years as well. Needless to say, when we signed Nate Clements I was thrilled! Although, he has yet to warrant an $80 mil. contract. What, with him getting burnt like toast by T.O. in that Dallas game.
But, I digress...
As an Ohio State fan and a Niners fan, the fannatic in me would be overjoyed if we drafted Chris "Beanie" Wells at the # 10 spot! I'm a realist, so I understand this probably won't happen, as we have more pressing issues other than running back. O-Line being a huge one, pass-rusher being the next in line. But I feel that Beanie and Gore would be a fierce tandem in the NFL. Neither one will be the home-run threat, although Beanie is deceptively fast, but both would fit the smash-mouth run style offense Sing is looking for. We can grab a RT in the second round. And if we sign Marvel Smith, this might make even more sense. The general feeling about Beanie is that he's "injury prone". This isn't the case. He did miss the USC game last year with a broken toe (I think), and a few games after that. But I think his issue isn't one of staying healthy, but rather knowing the DIFFERENCE between injury and pain. With a coach like Mike Singletary, that is an EASILY correctable flaw.
Thoughts...?
