OK.

For the older, and I dont mean old like M_E's age, i mean old like been around before we added all the new and ... intresting ... people, you already know i live up in the Great land of Canada in the wonderful Big Smoke of Toronto.

The newer folks might not know so im throwing my .. its FOOTBALL SEASON!!!! again and if you live in the Toronto area and you too are upset you cant see the games in the local pubs, or the network television I have the Sports Pack again for the football and hockey seasons.

So. If you are interested in checking out the game on my TV. I have a largish flatscreen and a empty fridge to store beer.

Note.. your on your own for the Buffalo game Sept 27. I am heading down to see that one live. Damn shame they didnt do that one in Toronto lol.

Just wondering how many of the CSC actually live close to Toronto.

If your like me and cant find anyone to actually watch a Saints game with maybe we could do something this year and get together for a game or two.

Either at someones house, or find a bar and convince them to put our game on.

We know the schedule now, and since our boys are not coming to visit it got me thinking of this.

Let me know if there is any intrest.

Looking at Detroit's team needs the #1 pick had to be either a QB, LT, or MLB.

I just didn't feel strongly enough about the Quarterbacks in this draft to consider them a #1 overall pick. First round maybe but not the #1. A new QB is needed but dropping one behind a line that lets defenders through at will is a sure fire way to turn a franchise QB into a 3rd stringer somewhere else.
MLB was a strong possibility but I felt that Detroit needs to build for the future and a new QB is part of that. Putting protection into place and allowing the line to get their feel for each other before the rookie QB lands behind them, I felt would help them more with the overall rebuilding, and get Detroit back to respectability faster. The defensive needs can be addressed with the balance of the picks.

So, that leaves Jason Smith at Left Tackle. Smith will solidify their line. Unconfirmed coaching stats show he allowed only three quarterback pressures and 4.5 sacks in his 24 games at left tackle the past two years. He excels at run blocking, his support here will shore up the left side and should open up lanes left or right for their running game to develop more. With more protection on the left side the passing game will be expanded as the Tight End will now be more then just a blocker. A former TE himself (6 catches for 70 yards as redshirt freshman), he brings a larger understanding of that role which will only help the line on screens. He started for 3 years at tackle for Baylor and has been selected as a Coach's All-Big 12 Conference 1st Team this year. He was an honorable mention the year before despite missing five games with an MCL sprain. The MCL sprain worried me quite alot but he seemed fine in 2008 and finished his career with 39 starts in 42 games, playing 24 at left tackle, seven at right.

Lions Coach Jim Schwartz, had the following to say:

"At the combine, when he was running his 40, he runs the 40 and runs a great time but when he got back to the line, usually those offensive linemen plod their way back to the line. He was bouncing like the defensive backs and linebackers do. If you had seen that and didn't have perspective, you would have guessed that he was a 220- or 215-pound guy. That's the athletic ability. Plus, he's incredibly smart, great personality and a real interesting guy - he rode rodeo in high school. I'd like to see that horse that could hold him. What does it say about Smith that he worked out at his pro day - after working out at the combine?...He's consistent and confident in his ability. It wasn't just a one-time thing with him. There are a lot of players who work out well one time. There are other guys who can do it every single time they go out. If they run a 4.3 40, they can do it at 3 o'clock in the morning or 3 o'clock in the afternoon, at the combine, at the home workout, it doesn't matter. They do it all the time. No. 1, it says consistency and, No. 2, it says confidence that he can do it consistently."

Hello Lions fans.

My name is Mt_always and I have the honour of picking for the Lions in the mock draft on the Canal Street Chronicles mock draft.

I have a couple friends who are Lions fans and figured I would apply for the job. Yes that's right.. I ASKED for the Lions....

I would be honored to hear your input as well as my friends cause well you know the man on the street knows their team as well as the professionals so.

I think your defense needs some help. A MLB, CB , DT seem your biggest needs there.

On offense a QB and a LT to protect him.

I do not think I will draft a QB for you. I am not high on any in this draft.

So I got thinking.

All this take of Best player available and the fact that we dont need the best player if they are say a QB.

Some of us hope a LB falls to 14 and we snag him up to help the front 7.

Some of us hope that we take a CB so we can buy JD a bus ticket to another city.

Personally I think if we stay at 14 we will take the best of either postion thats avilable. But what by some quirk of fate we have to make a choice?

Notes from the Game.

I was in Detroit today for the game.

Couple of notes.

1 - The crowd. They were pretty supportive of their team until we hit the 21pt mark. Then they started departing and every score after more left and there was more jeering of their own team.

We had a diehard fan all dressed up in my section picking on a kid with a Bush jersey.

The fans around me thought he was lame even before he started in on the kid. What a difference. The dome has its characters and we think of them with humor not scorn.

2 - The game itself. It was pretty boring I left it feeling bad for Detroit fans and thinking I could have spend the money on the trip on much better things and watched the game at my friends house. Glad I got to see them this year but I do wish that it didnt feel so ... useless. Once the Saints showed they were not going to just let Detroit win, the Lions gave up. It wasnt a football game anymore it was just a injury waiting to happen.

Speaking of injuries... why was Brees in for the whole game? Chasing records is the reason. This game was over at the end of the 3rd and everyone there knew it. I told the couple behind me that Joey was our 3rd string when they voiced displeasure at us having Brees in still. They told the couple beside and ... bout 5 min later the whole end of the stadium I was at started changint Joey Joey Joey. You show his as inactive but we saw him in uniform chatting on the field during a timeout. It would have been intresting had Coach put in for a series.

The refs were horrible. Calls made / not made.. But I guess Detroit needs all the help they can get.

The stadium, not sold out, not surprising. Was freaking cold outside you have to line up outside to get in but they have TVs in the windows, and the Lions Radio Network broadcasting outside. Got to hear the Saints up 7 before we even got inside. Traffic in Detroit sucks. Who builds a stadium and doesn't build parking? $30 bucks to park and that was a 10 - 15 minute walk away.

Jersey violations! They were HORRID. I have some pictures I will try to get posted. One has FIVE violations in the one shot. The rules on this came up and I was hard pressed to make them clear for the Detroit fans. The guys in traded players jerseys I got through as a violation of the rules. The 2 young (low teens) girls they defended as ok to wear old jerserys.

I will leave it to those that got to watch it on TV for the details.

Who else was going?

I know at least two of us are.

The season is not over. The Saints have two very important tasks left to complete.

#1 - Not allow the Lions to beat them. Being nice to let the winless Lions avoid 0-16 is just not allowed.

#2 - Not lose a home div game. I am not tottally sure on this one but I think I saw something about all NFC south teams have won their division home games so far.

Ok.

Someone with the ability to watch this again take a look but...

First down

Brees throws a pass to a reciever who doesnt turn around to even look at the pass.

Second down

Duece runs in it for record.

My question.... was this a setup? Did they even TRY on that first down or was it a safe incomplete to make GB think we were not giving it to Deuce?

The general opinion here in Toronto is that it was a fakeout and the whole thing was a ploy to make sure Deuce got his TD.

If that is the case, I think we have to take a look at Coach and give him a big hug ourselves. If I am wrong, I am still on the bubble about how he really feels about #26.

Anyone still feel we can still make the playoff?

Is there years edition of the New Orleans Saints going to pull up their socks and DO IT!

Or.. are they going to give up and put on their Aints uniforms.

We still have 3 div games, winning those would give us ties with Carolina and Atlanta, and a sweep of Tampa. We could end up 11-5

Course we could go 4 -12 if we play the way we played yesterday the rest of the season too.

What do you all think?
