Free Agency starts NOW
You know I really must say it has been very enjoyable discussing Charger Nation with all of you these last 5 or so months. We have cheered together, we have cried together, we have b'ched, moaned, and complained together. But the season is over now and it is our duty as fans and arm-chair GMs to begin the process of restoring our team to its once feared status in the league (when was that again?). So I invite all of you to participate and who knows maybe ol' AJ will stop through and consider some of our opinions.........
Manusky out! "insert name here" in!
So I guess you have heard by now that the Chargers defense coordinator has been blamed for the woes of everyone in Charger nation. I can't say I'm surprised. Rumor has it that the LB coach Pagano is the favorite to replace him. What are your thoughts on him? I hear a lot of people (Charger fans) say that he should have got the job after Rivera left anyways...
Game one performance in review.
Promising but potentially disappointing too.
Is he really worth 3 draft picks!?!
I like the kid. In fact I really considered him the #1 back overall because he could stay on the field moreso than the other "highly" rated running backs. But is Ryan Matthews really worth our #28, #40, and our 4th rounder?!
San Diego SUHper Chargers
Okay fellas, I know as you read this you are going to say "this guy has lost his freakin mind!" but please bear with me. Understand that I am going through some serious NFL football withdrawal right now; the draft is still too far away; and I have nothing better to do than just fantasize possibilities. So with all that being said what if SUH became a Charger?
San Diego Chargers: Who are we?
So with all this talk about the upcoming draft and who we should pick I thought that it would be interesting to reflect upon how confident or "set" we are at all the positions. Now this is only my opinion and I welcome your thoughts on the subject as well – as always. So what I am going to attempt to do is address each position (or group of positions where it applies) and rank them 1- 10, with 1 being the best and 10 being the worst, on how well we match up.
1. QB: Phillip Rivers is the man. I always liked Drew Brees and was nervous when the organization decided to just let him go. But up until that last year there Brees always seemed to be the one who made the wrong play when we needed him to make a GREAT play. Rivers on the other hand seems to have that innate ability to make those tough plays and lead us to that crucial score more often than he makes a bad play. Rivers hasn’t been injury prone to the extent where he can’t play. I think he is quickly ascending the ranks of QBs in the league and is worthy of any "top 5" active QB discussions in the league.
2. LB: We are not only talented here, we are also relatively deep at this position. The three SH-Migo’s (Shawne, Shaun, and & Stephen) are beginning to play at a very high-level. Say what you will about Merriman but when he is on the field he demands attention and most of the time it is in the disguise of double-teams. With Brandon Siler making his name known by not 1 but 2 consecutive goal line stops against the Cowboys I think that he too may be on the rise as well.
And the Chargers Select DE Jerry Hughes?!!
San Diego Chargers: DE Jerry Hughes, TCU -- And speaking of late draft-board jumpers, teams are finding more and more to like about Hughes. His ridiculous speed and ability to get after the quarterback will prove indispensable to the Chargers, who have some key decisions to make with their front seven in the next few seasons.
I read the above and after my initial shock-and-awe I thought about this pick. 1st off let me say that I love this kid and what he did in his collegiate career. A DE that was converted from RB when he was brought to TCU and never looked back. He truly terrorized his opponents. Now with all that being said is he a 4-3 DE or a 3-4 OLB? Personnally I think he is a 4-3 DE - I do not think he is built to be a DE for the 3-4. Needless to say though it would be an interesting pick to say the least but it would mean a couple of things.
If we are going to pick him here, a worthy 1st rounder, then either our personnel managers have more faith in our front 3 than I do, or their plan is to solidify our defensive side of the ball as a priorty and pickup a RB somewhere in rounds 3 - 6. We still need a solid 3-down NT no matter what we do. A dominant NT in a 3-4 makes EVERYONE on the defense better - everyone. But no matter how much I like this kid, I just don't think this is the right move for our defense - you can only have so many LBs on the field, and we are already pretty deep here. Let's just say we do this in round 1, draft the best NT in Round 2, and pick up a solid DB in Round 3 (or vice-versa) then I say this draft works out, otherwise I think this is a bad play.
