Cal gets 2012 baseball commit
A shortstop from San Ramon Valley High School named Max Dutto is the newest Golden Bear. He's a member of the class of 2012 and is a left handed hitter, rare for a SS.
Breaking down Virginia ace Danny Hultzen
A very in-depth look at Virginia's ace left hander and #2 pick Danny Hultzen. The Bears will likely face him on Sunday.

Baseball Preview of Washington State
Cal takes on Washington State this weekend in a 3 game set to open Pac-10 play. Here's a preview of the Cougars prior to the series.
Thursday/Friday Games: Who's going?
I know the link is for Fangraphs' preview of Game 1, but I didn't know what to put for the link. Leave me alone.
I think it would be nice to have a bit of a roll call of sorts for who's going to Games 1 and 2. Since the only one I see is for the Public House, I'm posting one here. So who's going? I'm going to Game 1 tomorrow, and I'll be in the left field bleachers with an Uribe sign.
The Story of 1915 Cal-Washington and how it was almost one of the greatest upsets of all time
The story of 1915's second Cal vs. Washington game and how it was almost one of the great upsets in college football history. That Huskie team was in the midst of a 50+ winning streak.
An early look at UC Davis
An extremely early look at what UC Davis will look like when we see them in our opener.
NCAA Football 2011 Review

(I haven't seen one of these up, so I figured I'd put mine up in case you're on the fence)
Monty against UCLA/Cal split
Monty joins the many Cal fans who are against the Pac-12 moving Cal and UCLA to different divisions. Don't think you'll find many who disagree with him.
Finding the average season of a Pac-10 Quarterback and how Riley stacks up
A post on my blog that shows the average stats of a Pac-10 quarterback and how Kevin Riley stacks up to those numbers. Thought it would be an interesting subject that might provide some insight on Riley's performance versus other quarterbacks.
Stats of remaining infielders on the market
So there has been 34 rosterbation posts on outfielder alone. That despite the fact that we aren't likely to sign another outfielder, with Velez/Rowand/Nate seeming all but locked up. There might be changes there, but they don't seem likely.

Rockie Fans make me LOL
"Be sure to hang out with the fans at True Blue LA. It's a good crowd and a far better place to be than McCovey Chronicles."
Right in the middle of their post in the link. Dodger fans are so fun to hang out with-NOT
20 reasons I hate the Rockies
I hate the Rockies. Let me say it again, I HATE THE ROCKIES! I hate them and everything they stand for. All their players, their manager, everything. Here's my 20 reasons to hate them.
The Giants Bullpen, from July to Today
Early on this season the Giants bullpen was unstoppable. Brian Wilson may have been going to 3-2 every count, the setup crew was doing its job. Jeremy Affeldt was unhittable, Brandon Medders and Justin Miller were doing their job, and there was no Jack Taschner or Tyler Walker to screw things up. But lately the pen has cost the Giants a few games. The last month or so appears to have been terrible for almost every pen member on the surface. The stats say another thing though…
Brian Wilson, July-August

Justin Miller July-August

Bullpen review
Best relievers: Brian Wilson, Justin Miller, and Jeremy Affeldt
Worst relievers: Sergio Romo, Merkin Valdez, Bob Howry, and Brandon Medders
Best relievers ERA: 1.73
Worst relievers ERA: 5.17
It's obvious that Romo, Valdez, Howry, and Medders are either tired of the long season or just not pitching well. I think Affeldt's problems are more Bochy giving him too much of a quick hook. Miller has been lights out these 2 months.
How bad is the Giants offense really?
After today's loss against the Mets, I decided to try to figure out how bad this Giant's offense really is. I stacked it up against offenses of the last 15 years in terms of runs scored (1995-2009) and put them and the Padres on their current run pace to end the year. The Giants are projected to score 641 runs this year, the Padres 623. Here's how they stack up against offenses of those 15 years, from worst to the today's Giants.
Least runs scored, (1995-2009)
1. 1995 Cardinals 563 runs
2. 2003 Dodgers 574 runs
3. 2002 Tigers 575 runs
4. 2003 Tigers 591 runs
5. Tied 2004 D-Backs and 1995 Phillies 615 runs
7. 1998 D-Rays 620 runs
8. 1995 Expos 621 runs
9. 2009 Padres 623 runs
10. 2002 Brewers 627 runs
11. Tied 1995 Royals and Pirates 629
13. Tied 2004 Brewers and 1995 Dodgers 634
15. 2008 Padres 637 runs
16. 2005 Nationals 639 runs
17. 2008 Giants 640 runs
18. Tied 2009 Giants and 2008 Nationals 641 runs
Of the last 15 years, there has been around 450 teams in the MLB. That means that in those years, 431 teams have had scored more runs in a season then the Giants are on pace to score. Among the teams on this list are team that have lost the 2nd most games in a season and the team the next year (Tigers), inept offenses repeating (Nationals, Padres, etc.), and teams coming off a strike (Royals, Pirates, and Cards). That's right, the Giants are just as bad as we thought they were.
Why Are the Royals So Bad?
So as a Royal fan living in California, I never get to watch the Royals play. After the good start, it seemed like they had a good combo. Their pitching was good, their bullpen was decent, and their offense seemed good enough. So my question is, why has the team gone completely down the tubes? I know Gordon got hurt, but that shouldn't cause the team to be worst then the Nationals. Is it a lack of effort? Is their offense really bad?
Aroldis Chapman
Do you think we have a chance to sign this 21 year old Cuban who throws 100?
Blast from the Past
So on Saturday I went to a AAA game where the Rivercats (A's) played the Red Hawks (Rangers). When I showed up I was shocked to see the starter of the game was Brett Tomko. The former Giant starter is now 37, and he looked it. Against AAA hitters he only went 1.2 innings and gave 4 hits, 4 runs, and 2 walks. He did strike out 3 batters. His fastball was shockingly 93 mph despite his age. But my question is why would the A's have a guy like Tomko in their AAA team? Couldn't they give starts to younger (and better) options? But in relief came another ex Giant, Jerome Williams. He went 5.2 innings in relief of Tomko, and didn't allow a run. His stuff looked worse then it did with us, as it topped at 92 mph. Williams walked 6 batters and struck out 4. Williams looked very good and I'm thinking (maybe) he could get a September call up the way he pitched. Just thought I shared about 2 ex Giants in their quest back to the bigs.
