Hogs Haven Hating with H8, "The Rivalry"

First of all, I hope I have not overstepped my bounds in the title here, but it seemed appropriate.....and who knows it might inspire H8 to bring back the column.

The Rivalry! We all know what I am talking about, and we all love it. Redskins/Cowboys must reside in the deepest part of you if you want to call yourself a true Redskins fan. I understand that means different things to different people. We are so fortunate to have such diversity here, and I think by far the best is the age diversity. I was 2 when the Skin's played in Super bowl VII. I remember the "event" and that it was about the "Redskins" (whatever that was, I didn't know. I just knew everybody got real excited.) But I digress.....

Hogs Haven I am by no means saying we should re-sign him, but...

Even I think that some folks here have been a little harsh on C.Portis lately, and I tend to be pretty critical of #26 myself.

On effort. He gave it to us. His went through a lot with this organization. He showed up in a big time trade at a time of massive organizational confusion. Then Joe Gibbs came along, takes one look at him and says "OK, you are my John Riggins, you ready?".....and proceeded to pound him to the line, over and over again for years. I give him props for that. (Both of them actually)

Then came Zorn, and madness ensued. I believe Zorn's plan was to start his tenure playing "Redskins Football" while he slowly implemented his own system. So we started 6-2, Portis was the leading rusher in the NFL, and getting MVP talk.....then Zorn's offense reared it's ugly head. We started throwing the ball on 1st down ALL the time. CP got like 16 carries against the Cowboys #2 that year, and he was the leading rusher in the NFL, WTF!!

>>>>The majority of you are probably too young to have worked at a job for a long time, then after a while you find yourself working with a good team, shit is getting done, and you are enjoying going to work again.......Then a new "boss" shows up and he completely fucks everything up because he is incompetent....but trust me it sucks....a lot.....this also plays into going over your bosses head and directly to the owner. Doesn't make it right, but I can understand where the compulsion came from.

On practice habits.I am a stickler for this one, in general....but, RB's take a beating, and might have the easiest playbook on the offense (depending on the OL scheme), but there aren't as many nuances in CP's playbook, he doesn't need as many reps.

On character. I have said "I just don't like him." many times. That is inaccurate as I have never met him. I don't like the way represents himself to the media, or, more to the point, I don't like the way he represents the Washington Redskins. I didn't like the "characters", I found them embarrassing. I might have been able to enjoy it more if it wasn't so directly related to the organization, and the games in particular. Lombardi would have beat him with his cane if he saw that kind of crap going on.

On competition, you can't give this guy any flack for wanting to come back and play against us.....it's the way he should be. He is looking for work...we just cut him. If I got "fired" and had a chance to show my ex-bosses that they made a mistake and show my friends, that still worked there that had some whup-ass left   I would be all over that opportunity as well.

I would be fine with him retiring a Redskin, and even getting his name in the Ring, if thats what he wants.

I hope he gets a gig somewhere in the AFC and does very well for a few more years. I think that there are teams he can be productive for, just not us.

Good Luck Mr. Portis,

I talk a lot os shit, but I love ya like Redskin!!

Hogs Haven Hey Ken, Kevin....just random thought...

It's just a thought, but while I was reading Sal's compliments on the superiority of our blog I had an idea about a possible charity event. From what I can tell "Extreme Redskins" is the other major Redskins blog out there, and most of you guys are local. What about putting together an actual flag football game between the HH family and the bloggers over there?  I don't know how logistics would work out, but I bet both sides could get some sponsorship if it was a charitable event, and the after party would be epic. Just throwing it out there.

Hogs Haven A letter from Roger Goodell

My girlfriend received this in her e-mail (I assume because she bought my x-mas present from the "NFL store". I don't know if any or all of you got this but I figured I would share.

Dear NFL Fan,

When I wrote to you last on behalf of the NFL, we promised you that we would work tirelessly to find a collectively bargained solution to our differences with the players' union. Subsequent to that letter to you, we agreed that the fastest way to a fair agreement was for everyone to work together through a mediation process. For the last three weeks I have personally attended every session of mediation, which is a process our clubs sincerely believe in.

Unfortunately, I have to tell you that earlier today the players' union walked away from mediation and collective bargaining and has initiated litigation against the clubs. In an effort to get a fair agreement now, our clubs offered a deal today that was, among other things, designed to have no adverse financial impact on veteran players in the early years, and would have met the players’ financial demands in the latter years of the agreement.

The proposal we made included an offer to narrow the player compensation gap that existed in the negotiations by splitting the difference; guarantee a reallocation of savings from first-round rookies to veterans and retirees without negatively affecting compensation for rounds 2-7; no compensation reduction for veterans; implement new year-round health and safety rules; retain the current 16-4 season format for at least two years with any subsequent changes subject to the approval of the league and union; and establish a new legacy fund for retired players ($82 million contributed by the owners over the next two years).

It was a deal that offered compromise, and would have ensured the well-being of our players and guaranteed the long-term future for the fans of the great game we all love so much. It was a deal where everyone would prosper.

We remain committed to collective bargaining and the federal mediation process until an agreement is reached, and call on the union to return to negotiations immediately. NFL players, clubs, and fans want an agreement. The only place it can be reached is at the bargaining table.

While we are disappointed with the union's actions, we remain steadfastly committed to reaching an agreement that serves the best interest of NFL players, clubs and fans, and thank you for your continued support of our League. First and foremost it is your passion for the game that drives us all, and we will not lose sight of this as we continue to work for a deal that works for everyone.

Yours,
Roger Goodell

Hogs Haven A question for Jimmy K.......Fan safety, what?

Yes, this should probably be on BGN but I don't have the time or inclination to register over there.........WTF is up with cancelling MNF....I thought you guys were supposed to be tough? Just a little snow? really?......if your Mayor/Governor really had any concerns about "fan safety"....or anybodies safety he would spend more time doing something about the Schuykill ...(is that pronounced skookel or sure-kill?) Whats your take on the delay of game....and how did that work out for you??

Hogs Haven Fantasy Football on HH?

This post is mainly directed to Kevin and Ken, and I am curious if I get any support on this idea (if it is even feasible). I don't play fantasy football, not because I don't like the concept, I think it is a great concept and if I had more time to play around I am sure I could get sucked into being an avid player. That being said, I find the proliferation of that subject on the site a bit .....well, frustrating, for lack of a better word. I would think that the majority of HH fans don't come here for fantasy information. I do support the HH fantasy league, and the trash talk that comes with it. I know a lot of the reg's play and I will scan the fan-posts for a chuckle from time to time, but I was wondering if it was possible to up "fantasy" as a separate place on the tool bar so that those interested in the fantasy aspects have their place, and those who come here (with limited time and not much interest in FF) don't have to deal with the mucky muck on the board. Seriously, how many Redskins do you have on your FF squad?

We should a separate area for the FF players.

Agree or disagree?

FF is good for the site and brings the HH community closer, but it needs its own area so those who come here for Redskins info only don't have to wade through it.

disagree....it is an open forum and HH FF should be a public part of it
