Asdrubal Cabrera as of 06/08/07:
180 ABs in AA
Switch Hitting defensive whiz at SS
.322/.406/.506
23 SO / 26 BB
16 SB / 6 HR
13 2b / 1 3B

I thought it a bad deal at the time but now it looks even worse. Admittedly, I really liked the Sexson deal at the time so my powers of precognition are perhaps proven to be perilously paltry, but...there it is. Next nail in the coffin for Bavasi? Point to Droob.

As an Oakland Athletic. Traded tor Washington for Ryan Lagerhansnsnsnsns.

300 Character Fact: Following the Virginia Tech massacre, players for the Nationals wore Virginia Tech baseball caps for their game against the Atlanta Braves on April 17, 2007. Snelling's cap was then sent to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

Who can we blame for such incompetent manegement of our beloved hometown 9? Hargrove? Sure, we could, but his incompetence is a known quality at this point. We KNOW he's going to give Mateo high leverage innings. We KNOW he's going to mismanage the bench. We KNOW he's going to do his best to be Tonya Harding to Snelling's Nancy Kerrigan. Tons of things, from his long-standing quiet fued with Ichiro to unflagging loyalty given to undeserving players. We know this, baseball knows this, microbes on Neptune's moon Titan know this. So now it's a matter of figuring out who's currently at fault. Is it Bavasi sticking it out for his manager? Is it the ownership group forcing personnel issues? Who knows? But something's got to give.

What can we do? Is it feasable to form a protest? Would any of you show up? I work right next to Safeco and can be there for any kind of orginazed public statement to be made after work hours either weekdays or anytime on weekends. I'm sick of this shit. Someone has to hear how the fanbase feels about this. Fire. Mike. Fucking. Hargrove.

Targets

I'm all for trade mongering, but sometimes it gets plain ridiculous. So instead of making up deals, I'd like some ideas just on potential targets. Who do you want? Do these people help short-term? Long-term? Might they be amenable to an extension if they're free-agents next year? How can they help the team today? Tommorrow?

Examples:

Baltimore: Sellers - LHP Erik Bedard - Free Agency - 2006
Erik came up and seemed to have little difficulty adjusting to the majors. While he's been hurt here and there in the past, he's putting up some good numbers on a non-contending team in this his age 27 season. Handedness would help him in Safeco. A Short-term solution, not likely to be amenable to an extension.

St. Louis: Contenders - LH 1B Chris Duncan - Free Agency - 2006
Duncan is a LH Power bat stuck behind Pujols. I know that with Sexson's money he's playing everyday and that we have Eduardo Perez profoming the same roll that Duncan would. But...man he could be a monster.

I've just got to mention Anthony Reyes here as well. The Cards wouldn't part with him but...dreamy sigh

Chi White Sox: Contenders - Brandon McCarthy - Free Agency - 2006
Tall LHP who started up until this year and could still start if he weren't trapped behind Chicago's rotation of doom. Like Bedard, likely to test the Free Agency waters.

Who else? Time to put your Baseball Prospectus to work. Dig up some names that HAVEN'T been bandied about to death.
