Still no word from Vonnie Holliday? Any benefits signing him?

I was always a fan of Vonnie, and when he was cut by the Phins I was sad but at the same time understanding: it's just business. Now it's the second week of training camp, and I haven't heard or read a word about Vonnie being signed by any team. Would the Dolphins get any benefit from signing he back into the team? I mean, they can pull a Taylor (sign the humbled player for less than before). And Vonnie would bring experience and another strong voice in the locker room. Are our defensive ends so good that we don't really need Vonnie? I'd like to get all your thoughts on this.

Wow, I think I just found a new hobby: trashing brain-dead sports writers!

I was joking when I posted on my prior post that for my next trick I was going to pick on Armando Salguero, but then I read his latest masterpiece:

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/2009/05/ill-be-the-first-to-admit-that-i-often-view-the-draft-through-the-prism-of-what-the-player-is-likely-to-do-or-not-do-for-the.html

That's just a fantastic idea, let's grade our draft on the players that we didn't pick. Doesn't he get the point that those players don't just succed due to their talent, but to their SURROUNDING TALENT as well? Is he so brainless to believe that if Nicks has a great career than maybe it's because Nicks has a better supporting cast? Did he forget that our more pressing need was CB and not WR? IS HE STUPID!?!?! I think the answer is yes to all three questions. Here's a reader comment that just gave me the giggles:

Armando
I think I read just about everything you write but this may have been the dumbest thing I have ever read and I believe I'm stupider-er for having read it!
So by your logic when NE got brady in the 7th round that made every other team in the NFL's draft a bad draft! Because everyone picked before him pails in compairison?!?! I should be able to go on and on here but my brain just went numb from trying to figure out your logic for this!

Oh...MY....GOD!!! Here's an idea: let's all rush the Miami Herald, drag out Salguero and Cote (we'll leave the other sports writers for now, they haven't pissed me off yet), strip them, tar and feather them, kick 'em between the legs then break their computers/typewriters/pencils/hands to make sure they never write again.

Then we kick 'em between the legs again... each person one kick... I get two, since it's my idea.

Alright, that's enough out of me. Two rants within two days: I'm just surpassing myself. Let the hilarity commence.

No wonder we have such fairweather fans! Thanks Cote, you duche bag!

I just read this article from Greg Cote, and MAN did it leave me fuming!

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/football/story/1043388.html

Does Mr. Cote not understand that because of that very same mindset of "WIN NOW!®" we ended up where we are in rebuilding mode? And now he wants us to "be aggressive" and throw away all that work so we can "WIN NOW!®" and then lose for the next 10 years. And then we wonder why we have such fairweather fans. See the following example:

Fairweather fan (after reading Mr. Duche's article): "Yeah man! Let's get Taylor and Boldwin, whatever it takes! Let's go to the Super Bowl this year!!! Alright!!!"

(Dolphins acquire Taylor. Dolphins also acquire Boldwin, breaking the bank and trading off picks in the process. They fall short of the Super Bowl this year. Since they're so close they keep getting aged players. The 2nd Age of Wannstedt commences. Mr. Duche then writes an article about rebuilding through the draft.)

Fairweather fan: "Aw man, this sucks! Why do we keep picking up these expensive free agents! Let's start drafting some good picks! That's the way to do it!"

Alright, I exaggerate a little, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that the Trifecta has done nothing but bring positive progress towards building this team into a long-standing contender, but noooooo, Cote wants it and he wants it RIGHT NOW! He wants to "WIN NOW!®" Nevermind that we have a young team with HUGE potential. And this feeds directly into the mindless horde of fairweather fans.

Thanks Greg Cote, for making the Trifecta's life a little bit harder you freaking duche bag! And if I ever see that guy walking on the street, I will go over and kick the crap out of him in the name of St. Parcells, St. Ireland and St. Saprano!

"WIN NOW!" is a registered trademark of Greg "The Duche Bag" Cote.

Did anyone catch on that last part in the Sun Sentinal arcticle concerning the Jake Grove signing? Here's what I'm talking about:

"It's also possible the Dolphins could find a trade partner for Satele, who has two years and $1.01 million left on the contract he signed in 2007."

Really? Do we have another center in the pipeline or on the pratice team that can backup Grove?

And who is Jabari Greer? According to the Herald, we're interested in him for CB. Here are the links for both articles:

Greg Cote says getting Favre makes sense...

Greg Cote must be smoking something real good! I just read an article where he actually APPROVES of a trade with Taylor for Favre. I personally disagree completely, but you can read his (nonsensical?) justifications here:

http://www.miamiherald.com/616/story/596962.html

Cote scores some minor points in the article, but there's just so many negatives to counter balance his justifications: Favre lack of familiarity with our system, he's stated aversion to mentor "the competition", not to mention the loss of one of the greatest defensive ends of all time. And the list goes on and on and on...

Anyway, read the article, and let the flames begin!!!

What to draft for?

Yeah, I'm already thinking of the draft. And I'm actually glad and Cam & Randy are trying to aquire picks for the next draft. What I what to know from the Dolfans out there is, where would you like the picks to go as far as positions? For me, I think we could use one or two O-line picks, but I think the bulk of the picks should go in defense, except for LB. Focus especially on secondary, and grab a couple of D-line players. But that's me, and I'm not an expert, so I could be totally way wrong. So what are your thoughts? What positions would you like to be addressed in the draft?

The Ricky Williams Debate

Okay, I've read several times that Ricky Williams wants to and is ready to come back to the NFL. Half of me wants to use him and a back-up running back until the Dolphins can recoup what he owes them, while the other half of me wants to trade him off to another team for more draft picks. I don't know if either scenario is realistic, so I want to know what your thoughts are on these rumors, and if they are true, what these could mean to the Dolphins.

This just in from FoxSports:

"San Diego has acquired wide receiver Chris Chambers from the Miami Dolphins for what is believed a second-round draft choice, FOXSports.com has learned."

This was confirmed by Chambers himself over email to FoxSports, but he declined further details pending word from Mueller and Cameron. This got posted about five minutes ago.

Your thoughts anyone?
