Forecast: Predicting playoff teams and Vikings game

13

Join me as I try to predict who will make the playoffs, if the Saints can get a win in Minnesota, and take a journey to another universe where Tim Tebow and Mike Ditka join forces.

Forecast: Saints over come Titans, refs and themselves for big road win

+

On Sunday in Tennessee the Saints overcame the referees, the Titans, and in some cases themselves to clinch a playoff spot for the third year in a row. Then the Arizona Cardinals beat the San Francisco 49ers and suddenly a bye in the playoffs is very much in play, which makes for as good a Sunday afternoon as you can have in December.

Forecast: Saints headed to playoff showdown with Falcons

21

The Falcons look like they will probably be the #5 seed in the NFC since Chicago and Detroit look dead in the water but my prediction of a Saints-Falcons game has more to do with history than anything I’m seeing on the field in 2011. It’s the 20th anniversary of the Saints first division title and hosting the Atlanta Falcons in the playoffs. It was Jerry Glanville, Deion Sanders, and Jim Mora signing a homeless man the Wednesday before the game and starting him at corner. Just kidding, Mora signed Milton Mack and he wasn’t homeless but he did start at corner and give up the game-winning touchdown.

Forecast: Key to Saints stretch run is the run defense

9

The more I think about it the more I believe the most important thing they need to do is improve their run defense. They are 30th in yards per rush (allowing 5.0 yards per carry). The reason teams haven’t been able to run them over is opponents only average 23 rushes per game against the Saints. It's hard to keep running the ball when Brees just dropped a three-score deficit on you.

Forecast: Can Saints and LSU continue home dominance?

2

The Saints are a killing machine at home. Will it continue against New York? And should we be worried LSU fans won't be fired up on black Friday?

Forecast: Saints-Falcons game not good for the heart

3

I didn’t think Sunday’s victory could be any sweeter then Jabari Greer added the cherry on top. The Falcon’s marketing slogan is ‘Rise up’ and the way Jabari used it to twist the knife in Atlanta’s stomach after the game was delightful, "The feeling in that huddle that we were not going to be denied no matter what they did, we were going to rise up, that was special." I see what you did there Jabari and I love it.

Forecast: Atlanta Week so get your hate on

8

Maybe it’s because we are all hung over from LSU/Alabama or the Penn State sex abuse scandal has cast a black cloud over all football this weekend. The former was exhausting and the latter is heartbreaking so if you’re having trouble getting excited I understand and I’m here to help. It’s ok to be excited during Falcons week and I encourage you to hate them. Having a strong irrational hatred of all things Atlanta is 40 percent of what makes being a Saints fan so incredibly enjoyable. Oh and in case you forgot this game Sunday is HUGE. I won’t drop the ‘biggest game of the season’ on you because only coaches should be able to repeat that cliché over and over. The game will be the Saints last chance to take firm control of the division. They botched their last chance with a four-turnover mess in Tampa.

Forecast: Saints, Tigers make it a memorable football weekend

8

How much work did you get done Friday waiting for football this weekend? It’s ok I won’t tell if you got fired up watching Youtube clips of Les Miles pregame speeches instead if doing paperwork. We got exactly what we hoped out of LSU and expected out of the Saints. LSU proved they were the best team in the country Saturday night while the Saints didn’t prove anything we didn’t know already. They are dominant at home but how successful 2011 will be determined how they play away from the Superdome.

Blogger Email Roundtable: Horror in St. Louis Editions

1

At Hakim we bring together a group of Saints bloggers to discuss all things Saints during the week. Here is their email chain. This week we had Grandmaster Wang from moosedenied, Dave Cariello , Andrew Juge and Hansdat from Canal Street Chronicles, and Ralph Malbrough from WWLTV.com. Oh and the boss man Kevin Held. This week the guys discuss the horrors in St. Louis, the offensive line garbage and why Andrew and Ralph are breaking up with Sedrick Ellis and Charles Brown. Also are the Saints too predictable on offense?

Forecast: Saints biggest game of year, LSU's biggest game ever

12

For the Saints their season hangs in balance Sunday against Tampa and for LSU its game is so big Huey Long might rise from the dead to bribe an official or two. Oh and the wife bathes in fresh warm Nick Saban hate.

Forecast: Saints road show is troubling

8

The 2011 New Orleans Saints are coming into focus and one thing is abundantly clear; they are not to be trusted on the road under any circumstances.

Forecast: Looking back on my preseason predictions

6

We are nearly half way through 2011 so what better time to revisit my awful preseason predictions? For all the people who hate me and think I’m clueless consider this my Halloween gift to you. You can look back at my thoughts from August and then read on to see how wrong I was.

Blogger Roundtable- Sean Payton in a cast edition!

+

The blogger roundtable discusses Payton's broken leg, the horrible defense, and Andrew Juge says we are all whiny little #@%^. Enjoy!

Forecast: Next two weeks key for Saints defense

39

In two weeks we’ll know if the Saints can’t win the Super Bowl. The Saints next two opponents are the winless Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Rams. If they don’t show significant improvement on defense against the Colts and Rams another Super Bowl isn’t happenin

Forecast: Saints couldn't have done much more wrong yet still had chance to win

4

Watching the Saints misfire on offense as they did in the first half against Tampa is sort of like biting into a piece of pizza and then spitting it out. You just never expect a piece of pizza to be so bad you literally won’t eat it because even bad pizza is still pretty good. We’ve come expect the same of the Saints offense.

Chain Gang: Slow linebacker edition

+

Each week here at Hakim we bring together a group of Saints bloggers to discuss all things Saints during the week. Here is their email chain. This week we had Grandmaster Wang from moosedenied, Dave Cariello , Andrew Juge and Hansdat from Canal Street Chronicles, and Ralph Malbrough from WWLTV.com. Oh and the boss man Kevin Held. This week the guys discuss, if Jimmy Graham can be stopped, will the Saints ever get really good outside linebackers, and is it too soon to worry about home field for the playoffs?

Forecast: Saints deserve better national announcers

12

Watching the Saints comeback win against Carolina only had one real downside and it was the announcing. I haven’t seen a person’s name mispronounced as often as Thomas Morstead’s was since a moderator asked Presidential candidates who was the prime minister of a country I’ve never heard of.

Forecast: Saints better give Brees contract extension soon

8

Before we get to anything else in the game let’s take a moment and acknowledge Brees was 8 for 9 on the final drive and was so fantastic the Saints only had to convert two third downs on the drive and those were short yardage. Just because we’ve seen Brees do this so often we expect it doesn’t make it any less magnificent.

Forecast: Sproles is the ultimate upgrade

7

I wish everything in life could be replaced with something as good as Darren Sproles. Sproles is the greatest upgrade since some random guy 2000 years ago told everybody to stop drinking water and start drinking this wine he invented. Whenever you change something in life you should hope it goes as well as the Reggie Bush to Darren Sproles swap.

Forecast: Things look pretty at season's quarter pole

12

The Saints went to Jacksonville and won comfortably but not very convincingly. The New Orleans high-powered offense couldn’t quite bury the Jaguars in spite of a quick 14-0 start to open the game. I’m not even going to complain about Sean Payton still throwing the ball all over the place late in the game with a two score lead because that’s just part of the Sean Payton head coach experience. We’re in year six of this and at this point asking Payton to run more is like asking a dog to not bark at the doorbell. It’s not going to happen. Let’s just move along.

Forecast: Gleason kicked off Golden Age of Saints football

1

Before the Superdome reopened in 2006 New Orleans Saints fans were always waiting for the worst to happen. The Saints had one playoff win and a fan base that had so many traumas done to it no amount of therapy could fix our neurosis. The Saints had added Drew Brees, Reggie Bush and Sean Payton in the spring of ‘06 but we’d seen the Saints reshuffle coaches and players to give us hope before. Every time it was just a mirage. Then on September 25, 2006 Steve Gleason washed all the Saints past failures away.

Forecast: Saints defense meeting expectations

14

Life is all about expectations. Sometimes they exceed what you were hoping for, sometimes they are exactly what you thought they would be, or in the case of this column, they disappoint every single time. If you had the right expectations of the New Orleans Saints heading into the Texans game Sunday then you left the Superdome feeling pretty good about where the Saints are after three weeks.
