Playoff Prediction Results?
Whatever happened to the playoff predictions? Did I miss the results? Can't seem to find a mention of them.
Or am I completely in the wrong place and thinking of a different Wings blog altogether?
Just curious to see how things turned out. I know I bombed personally, though I did have the B's going all the way and Timmy T. with the conn smythe. My problem was the rest of the bracket.
If this is up somewhere could somebody link me?
Jim Harbaugh has been in the NFL for only a couple of months and already has Colin Kaepernick to coach. That seems unfair. Kaepernick has the package: talent, drive, level head, plus he was ignored by the East Coast media elite, which will serve him as a long-term motivator. Thirty-one teams passed on Kaepernick, and 31 will regret doing so.
Greg Easterbrook loves the Kaepernick pick

Kiper's potential immediate impact guys includes Aldon Smith (Insider)
Things like this make me like the pick more by the day.
Unnecessary Poll Question of the Day
Which player on the Orlando Magic should win Defensive Player of the Year?
This gave me a laugh
Ryan Mallett focused on the future
I think this is a well-written piece that echoes a theme I've been touting for a while: The huge knock against Mallett is "character issues", yet I have not seen a single person able to elaborate on that or provide a specific issue. He's been labeled with this term, which is so broad and undefined. It's almost as if once it came out, everyone just assumed it was reality. He has 1 arrest on record, at age 20 for public intoxication: you're going to find alot of 20 year olds with that rap.
I have held firm in my opinion that Mallett will turn out to be the most productive QB in this draft class, and until somebody can actually give me specific "character issues" with supporting details, I won't back down from that.
VD extended
yay, its nice to have competent management
And its official
Nate is back...
Now I absolutely love the move to get Smith even more.
Twitter
I'm guessing this has been posted before, just wondering if someone could point me towards a list of 49er players/press that are on twitter? Trying to complete my list.
So far Ive got Clements, VD, Goldson, Westbrook, TKO for players and Barrows, Barber and Maiocco for coverage. As well as the 49ers official account.
Help me fill in the gaps, who else is out there? Or is that about it?
Is there somewhere on the web/this site with a good list?
Why Upstate NY Sports writers should not attempt an NL West Preview
Here in Rochester, NY we have a lovely old cranky sportswriter/radio host who loves to jump at the chance to be a complete asshole if you disagree with him.
Today he published his NL West preview and his biggest concern with the Dodgers was their "lack of bullpen depth". I know people have varying opinions on how the Dodgers will fare this year, but I think anyone would agree that their bullpen is the one NON-question mark heading into the season. This was the biggest reason I emailed him, as how could anyone who actually has seen the Dodgers list the bullpen as a concern? And quite a concern it must be, because despite listing quite a few favorable statistics about the club, he predicts an 87-75 season, good for 3rd place.
Not anywhere in the write up does he provide a single bullpen statistic, overall or by an individual player. My response was based on actual statistics (as they clearly show that LA has one of the better bullpens, if not the best, in the league). And even worse is that the players he cites as not having confidence in (Broxton, Sherrill, Belisario) were also statistically three of the better relievers around last year.
After the break is a nice little correspondence he sent me when i had the audacity to ask him to explain some of his questionable opinions (keep in mind this is a professional journalist).
Maiocco: McCloughan stepping down?
Did anyone else see this just now?
Maiocco: Gore to miss 3 weeks
Can't confirm this anywhere so it may be premature speculation
ESPN Power Rankings: Apparently beating someone isnt enough
I never have been a fan of "power rankings" but how anyone can justify ranking the Cards ahead of the Niners is beyond me. Im guessing its a safe bet none of the voters actually watched SF smack around Warner and the "high powered" cards offense
Onion Sports: Area man has heard of Andre Ethier
Funny blurb involving Dre on the onion.
Re-Thinking Vernon Davis
via assets.espn.go.com Would you want to be on the other end of a block from this guy?
Vernon Davis is well regarded by his coach as a great blocker. And the league took notice last year, when he became a pro-bowl alternate based solely on his blocking at the position. He has embraced that aspect of the tight end position, and given his natural ability (and size) he has excelled at it.
So what's the problem?
SI "Expert": Penn State to appear in 2 seperate BCS bowls
Penn State fans are excited about the upcoming football season, and understandably so. With the veteran leadership of Daryl Clark and a schedule that sets up nicely, the Nittany Lions are looking at another potential Big Ten title and the BCS bowl slot that comes with it.
Another BCS Bowl game? Ho-hum. Show me 2 BCS Bowls, and then we'll talk.
Well, Kevin Armstrong of SI.com ups the ante for Penn State faithful, projecting the Lions not only to face Oregon State in the Rose Bowl, but to face off against Florida State in the Orange bowl as well.
via photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net SI displays its impeccible editing.
Sure, neither is the national title game, but if you were voting for #1, wouldn't you take the team that won 2 BCS Bowl games over the team that won a measley ONE BCS game?
